Hey guys! Have you been following the Australian Open this season? I’ve decided to do things a little differently today. Instead of posting the individual scores, I’ve decided to write about the standout games in one comprehensive article. I figured this may be a little bit easier to read, as opposed to clicking on individual posts for each game. Also: I would like to know YOUR favorite players, and who you are looking forward to seeing the most. Instead of just writing about MY favorite players, I would like to know your favorites. Let me know in the comments below. I’m always looking forward to hearing about other people’s opinions & tastes.
Today, I will write about the players I’ve listed in my excerpt… but moving forward from here on out, I would like to know who your favorite players are so that I can cover those said players in my future posts. Thanks.
Venus Williams vs. Alize Cornet – Women’s Singles:
One of the most well-renowned tennis athletes in Venus Williams beat French star Alize Cornet in a moderately tough game that lasted 1 hr, 17 mins. Final scoreboard: 6-3 (Set 1), 6-3 (Set 2). Venus will play superstar Maria Sharapova in Round Three. Gosh, Venus vs. Maria will be quite the matchup. (Although, I’ll be rooting for Venus to win. She is a 7-time Grand Slam Singles champ after all).

Novak Djokovic vs. Ryan Harrison – Men’s Singles:
The reigning Australian Open Men’s Singles champ–Novak Djokovic–just sailed through to Round Three. He won a relatively easy game against American star Ryan Harrison (the game lasted 1 hr, 30 mins). Yay, I’m happy for Novak! I’m rooting for him to win back-to-back Australian Open’s. Final scoreboard: 6-1 (Set 1), 6-2 (Set 2), 6-3 (Set 3). Novak will play Radek Stepanek in Round Three. I don’t know who Stapanek is, so I’ll be looking forward to learning more about him in Round Three.

Nicolas Almagro vs. Daniel Gimeno-Traver – Men’s Singles:
The two Spaniards battled to the finish line, and Nicolas came out on top! There is no official press release for Nicolas; but, I will continue writing about him for the duration of this season. Final scoreboard: 6-4 (Set 1), 6-1 (Set 2), 6-2 (Set 3). I’m not sure who he’ll be up against in the third round, so if you have any info on that… please let me know.
Maria Sharapova vs. Misaki Doi – Women’s Singles:
Maria is literally obliterating everything and everyone in sight. For the second game in a row, she won easily. Both of her opponents in Round One and Two laid goose eggs. She dominated from her first serve of the game. Final scoreboard: 6-0 (Set 1), 6-0 (Set 2). Maria will play Venus Williams in Round Three.

Samantha Stosur vs. Jie Zhang – Women’s Singles:
Here’s some not so great news: Aussie hometown favorite–Samantha Stosur–lost to Chinese star Jie Zhang in the second round. Final scoreboard: 4-6 (Set 1), 6-1 (Set 2), 5-7 (Set 3). What an upset for the home crowd. There’s always next year though. Keep training hard, Samantha!
