American Idol Season 11 Top 7 Results (take 1)
I’ll have to be honest here. As we prepare to tonight’s elimination of once member of the Top 7 group, I am not really definite what will happen. Watching last night, I know my least favorite of the night were Phillip Phillips, Hollie Cavanagh, and either Joshua Ledet or maybe Colton Dixon. With that known by all, I find it interesting how I thought four out of seven could end up in the bottom, knowing full ell that 2 of the 4 might be getting by on other things…
With a brief recap of what happened behind the scenes last night, the judges are introduced, as is Crusty. He tells of exciting performances from James Durbin and Jennifer Hudson, with Ne-Yo. But first, the Top Seven perform an amazingly awkward version of Raise Your Glass by Pink.
Wow, that was pretty bad. They quickly move to a Ford Music Video, but I will choose to ignore it. Really. But then Crusty talks about Tweets from singers, invites to the prom, and jewelry gifts. But soon it was time for the for business, and Crusty asks Hollie and Jessica to join him on the stage. Jimmy I talks about both, saying Hollie is stiff and stilted, and Jessica just free and easy. So, after the vote, Hollie is sent to the right side of the stage, and Jessica to the left. Oh, Lawdy, they are going to put two groups of three on the stage, and have some unsuspecting fool pick who they think is safe. Such a cheap and tired trick. But before they get any further, it is time for the first guest performance of the night, James Durbin singing Higher Than Heaven, off his album A Beautiful Disaster.
Well, that was an odd performance, sort of reminiscent of bad hairband metal from a time long ago. He brags about clearing 100,000 units sold since the release, which gives me pause to think. Then I decide to not waste my time and move forward. Back to Crusty and the results. Phillip and Elise are pulled out, and given the recap treatment. Jimmy I talks about the performances, and thinks both will be in the bottom three. Phillip joins Hollie on the right, and Elise joins Jessica on the left. Then, of course, it is time for a break. On the return, it is time for the only Idol alumni with both a Grammy and Oscar. It is Jennifer Hudson and Ne Yo to sing Think Like A Man. The video features Rick Ross.
This is a nice, complex staging of a rather forgettable song. Crusty tries to talk to them, but it seems Jennifer’s microphone was not turned on. Was it live, or was it Memorex? With Hudson’s voice, why wouldn’t they let he do it live? I think it was just a post-performance issue. After an exceedingly long break, Colton and Joshua are called to the stage. Yet again, we revisit the performances, and the judges comments. They loved them. Jimmy I was also loved them both. Joshua is sent to join Elise and Jessica, and Colton is joining Hollie and Phillip. Crusty goes to join Skylar in the seats, and the review the judges comments, and Jimmy I loves her, and fears she might be left behind. We hear that Skylar is safe, and Crusty asks her to pick the group that is safe, and she refuses. But he places her with Hollie, Colton and Phillip, all who are safe. The judges are appalled that Elise, Joshua and Jessica are the bottom three, and Steven announces they will use the save tonight. Wow, that just killed some of Nigel’s thunder, didn’t it? So, did the judges think Colton, Phillip and Hollie should be in the bottom? Or Skylar replacing one of them? Well, first they send Joshua back to safety, and Jessica will be singing for her life. Elise is safe. She starts to sing, and the judges storm the stage, and use the save. And then Randy complains that Jessica is one of the best singers in America, and how could the voters not support her? Yep, that is what we needed, to be berated. Nice, Randy.

Got Something to Add?
about the result is very shocking! but i cannot blame them its very clear this is AMERICAN IDOL not WORLD IDOL. I think the winner must be pure not half.
For saying curse about Jessica Sanchez, lame excuses and irrational comments, hope it won't backtrack and give a bad karma to your Idol contestants. I don't want to curse or bash any other contestants because I am afraid of the very potent BAD KARMA...
If you don't want your Phillips Phillips or your Colton Dixon to be criticized then how can they improve if the don't have to be criticized, they are not even hated or bashed if you know other people do in beauty pageants... Remember nobody's perfect and they are still in competition they needs the advice, suggestions and even meanest comments and constructive criticisms to improve and stays in the game. Otherwise, if they gain all praises in which some are fake then they will not survive for long in the music industry and will not sell a lot of albums like other past Idol winner. and don't blame the judges they know what they are doing they are experts and not just your mere feeling experts voters and even Jimmy Iovine the producer also has the mean comments and constructive criticisms for these contestants if needed. What if acerbic Cowell will be around, will he be criticized for his mean comments for the Idol contestants? Don't be subjective vote objectively.
KrisThulinWise. you are right! just like some people say these teen voters knows little in life much more in music... that is why voting system should be changed and these teens don't know how to appreciate "REAL MUSIC"... anyway these teens are all just fads... remember they like David Archuleta before? so where are they now? are they still loving and supporting David Archuleta and buying his albums... These teens are only up to fads and what is trendy and when all of this fade and as the musician grows older in the industry he will be forgotten by these teens!
The problem is that the voters who are braggarts and are airheads are so boastful that they tend to know everything and anything that they even castigate the judges for what they are doing? where in the world can you find that? The "FEELING EXPERTS" always criticize judges and Jessica Sanchez on the show SO IRONIC AND SO RIDICULOUS... WHAT A SHAME on JERKS!
I still insist that Jessica is greatly overrated...shes way too mechanical and lacks personailty...her song choice the other night was her downfall I think......she shows very little emotion.....people can still rave on about her but I find Colton and Skylar far more interesting and Elsie has one of the most interesting tones of the remaining group....
Quite frankly the issue is with who is voting - 100 of thousands of pre-teen girls and their soccer moms. Who on earth do you think they are going to vote for? The same pretty boys they've voted for in the past five seasons or so (think about it - Chris Allen? Lee Dwyze? Scottie McCreery?). It has very little to do with talent. No minority will win, no "old" and "fat" white girl will win - it will be the same old, same old year after year, until AI does something with the voting approach. High time for a percentage of the vote to be in the hands of the judges, ala Dancing with the Stars, after all, the judges are all music industry folk and they know who will make it - not a bunch of screaming adolescent girls and their soccer moms.
We should all unite and vote for the MOST DESERVING ONE! Don't be blinded by SCREAMING as opposed to TRUE SINGING.
PLEASE SUPPORT JESSICA SANCHEZ. SAVE HER PLEASE.
I am not a fan of JSan, Elise or Joshua.... I just dont have the right tastebuds for this season's IDOL, but to be a constant viewer of the show.. I think JSan is one of the top, second is Colton, then third is Skylar followed by Elise and Joshua as potentially marketable contestant...... But with what happened last night surely made me think... are there really somebody in each contestant camp doing alot of voting .... spending money to get their bet in the safe zone? I dunno much in the voting scheme of AI if there are also limitations of how many votes you can do in every phone no, sort of.... because what happened last night is totally beyond imaginable situation.....
i support Jessica.. but the thing that bothered me was randy's comment tonight.. america vote for the best.. such a cheap shot at the others.. just saying
I'd like to see iTunes sales numbers , how many people would actually buy a album from Jessica? I'd like to see them go one season without using the save. I see it going like this 7+6 Elise and Hollie , 5. Joshua , 4. Skylar , 3. Jessica , 2. Colton , 1. Phillip
thanks for the recap Howard, I'm happy I didn't watch it live, i would have been yelling at the tv lik e crazy :-O ugh so wrong.
I still find it funny people think it matters if you win idol or not. Most of them will have record deals and CDs regardless of winning or finishing 7th or 4th or 2nd.
my question is not just this season competition even if a girl is a better performer than a boy will the teens vote on the girl with her incredible voice?
Best moments of the night: Colton and Phil's awesome choreography during the group number and Steven effing up by revealing the save would be used ruining any shred of tension for the end.
@blink_boi28061980 right... if its not a racial prejudice and per se since she was a naturalized American, voters who really appreciate real talents and music choose the rightful and deserving Idol regardless of what their ancestry or lineage is provided they live and faithful to the United States of America or maybe still pride is their hearts to really vote for pure American yet remain inferior to other performers when it regards to talent, voice and performance are concerned.
I even heard some negative comments and constructive criticisms about Jessica Sanchez from the judges and it is normal to improve and nobody's really perfect. At the end of the day, a lot of people who really do buy albums and really listen to songs appreciate real music....and make the star a legend something that thrives and very successful in the industry for "A LONG TIME"
@djfabian I was so sad that some people put down Jessica, questions her talent and always find an excuse or flaws in her on why she will not win the Idol just to promote their own idols? so sad they do such poor taste....
@KrisThulinWise you are right! just like some people say these teen voters knows little in life much more in music... that is why voting system should be changed and these teens don't know how to appreciate "REAL MUSIC"... anyway these teens are all just fads... remember they like David Archuleta before? so where are they now? are they still loving and supporting David Archuleta and buying his albums... These teens are only up to fads and what is trendy and when all of this fade and as the musician grows older in the industry he will be forgotten by these teens!
@KrisThulinWise I just wanna say that while teenage girls are often blamed, it seems to me, they are more than willing to support girls, like Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, or Demi Lovato. Now the cougars, on the other hand, seem more likely to vote for boys...
@cocoloids we will support her with power voting... we appreciate real talent and beautiful voice!
@kantaru I am not a fan of Phillip Phillips or Colton Dixon either...but I love JS...
He stated a fact - Vote for the best singer, not the best looking, not the cutest boy, not the sexiest girl - the best singer. Clearly the voters didn't.
@Airaheta1fan I agree SO much with this comment. Randy says such stupid, inflammatory things all the time and he doesn't even know how much he degrades the other contestants on the show. How long has he been a judge now? When is he getting fired? Please, tomorrow?
@abercrombieco2 milions for Jessica plus left and right concert in America and Asia... Europe is waiting...lol
@abercrombieco2 Of all the years American Idol has been on the air, this year has had the most current artists cumulatively. While I'm not a fan, Jessica has consistently chosen modern songs when given the opportunity and done them well. She is a Beyonce-lite artist who with a little bit of time in the industry can really flourish.
Skylar, Colton, Hollie and a few others have also shown a penchant for more contemporary material so I'm not quite sure if your critique measures up.
@sr200179 You are welcome, and thank you for the kind words. It was not one of Idols shining moments, that is for sure...
@abercrombieco2 And we have yet to see some of them come out with albums. If we have learned anything through the years of the many music reality shows it is that some will be signed, and dropped before music hits the streets.
@abercrombieco2 Last year was a record breaking year for the contestants as 7 out of the top 13 received record deals. unfortunately, for the other seasons, the average really dwindles down and the only people who get record deals are those who place in the top 3 or 4.
@pretty_kaleya They voted for Jordin Sparks.
@pretty_kaleya exactly! But in that case from the start during the audition time they should include to the qualification that this talent show is must for America only, not half, not alien, and probably not exotic. "hehehe...... so that the talent will not be ashamed.
@pretty_kaleya Im only telling it like I see it....Im sure shes a sweet girl but shes coming off as "Cold" and robotic and lacking personality......just how I see itboth he and Skylar are very memorableI didnt like Colton at first but he has really grown on me.....
@djfabian even if their reasoning, explanations and comments are illogical, irrational and non convincing or non-persuasive!
"The past five seasons or so" is what I said - Do a little google search on AI voting and how it's changed with the advances of technology (the voting system was set up when each text cost money - thereby controlling to some degree how many times people vote) and demographics of the viewers. Interesting stuff, but you do have to do some research.
Seems to me the so-called "cougars" (such a horrible, over used term) are much more likely to vote EXACTLY how their adolescent daughters do - because they have about the same level of development, not because they are "cougars".
@KrisThulinWise But don't we have a right to like who we want to like? I don't like Jessica's voice as something "I" would choose to listen to, and I highly doubt I would EVER buy a cd of hers. I am far from a teenage girl, so that has nothing to do with it. We should all know by now that it is not alllll about just the best voice. It is who we connect to, who we enjoy, who inspires us, who entertains us, who exudes emotions out of us, and Jessica does NOT do that for me! Hence why I will not vote for her. And if there are others that think like me, then so be it. I don't want to hear vote for the 'best singer,' because first, to me who is the best singer is NOT Jessica, and even if I did think so, we should vote for the person we'd actually purchase a CD of. I did not like Pia last year either. Sure, she could 'sing' but I did not like her style, her voice, her attitude, and would never ever ever buy a cd of hers and I never voted for her. Why must we all fall into the same voting category? Vote for who you all want to vote for, and I'll do the same. I don't care if Jessica wins...I just won't buy her CD!
@KrisThulinWise If this show wasn't staged for ratings, AMERICA voted the way they wanted. For Randy to suggest the other contestants were not worthy of AMERICA'S votes was wrong.
@Bettysline that was the last time they vote for a girl and most of the voters at that time are from 30s, 20s and some fair share of the teens...
@djfabian really hope it won't be a bad karma to your idol if it happens... it is just your opinion and don't stereotype everyone because what you feel and what you believe does not reflect the mind and hearts of many...it is just you and your opinion and it doesn't matter... hope it will not a bad karma on your Idol contestants else who will sink down like the Titanic, magnificent as it is yet it sink down...yeah you are just so envious that JS got some rave reviews some judges and that is the big problem of American voters they have lots of insecurities because they like someone else... it is not really appreciating and having a fair and sound judgment but sounds whiny and bias same goes with Phillips he is also cold and robotic to me and I heard his growl over and over again....
@KrisThulinWise Well, that is a thought, although I one I would really not endorse. The thought that 40-something women are voting the same as tweenagers doesn't work for me. I don't think tweens voted for Taylor Hicks, or David Cook, or Kris or Lee. David Archuleta, perhaps...
@KennethGuinto Mr. about your message to me I know Pia last season 10 in AI and I like her & Jessica for you to know my vote is for them all the way. Anyway, 1st be polite and don't say that i'm idiot coz you don't understand what i'm trying to say. 2nd. my previous msg is for jminy not for you and I made a message to jminy base on what his/her post message. The problem is you jump directly to the conclusion without analyzing the situation if what is all about, try to learn the 4 W's rules before you reply or posting a message. Thanks for saying BLOODY IDIOT!
@jminy your comment is not for American Idol or for singing contest that is for Miss Universe Beauty Pageant. I think your out of the place. lol!
@pretty_kaleya I completely agree with you. Phil Philips does not stand a chance in the world market. a guy like him goes on the same lines as the past 3 winners of American Idol aka the past 3 failures of White Teenage girls America. @jminy by stating you dont like Pia Tuscano and Jess J all more proves that you dont know music but rather you vote and support people based on looks or gender , AI is not finding America's next Bieber, AI is a singing competition you have to remember that. cause if you vote like a crap youll have an AI winner that has a career like a CRAP.
@jminy @KrisThulinWise so what if you won't buy her CD millions of others will do from Americans, Filipinos and Latinos... so it is not a loss if you won't buy her cd... you only have a crush on Phillips and he has a girlfriend which he is really in love with...you are just insecure because JS has the voice that the "REAL EXPERTS" not the "FEELING EXPERTS" appreciates and love to listen to and connect to... yeah that is the reason why there are comments saying that JS like most any other teens doesn't have emotion or personality or cannot connect to people. Remember Jessica Sanchez is a teen like you and IT HIT YOU LIKE A CANNON BALL...you yourself as well doesn't have the personality, doesn't have the emotion and cannot relate, appreciate and admire "REAL MUSIC"... Phillip Phillips may be a hit for a time but the question is will he hit it big time as he grows older and longer in the music industry. That is still remains to be seen... while Jessica in her young teenage years still have a lot to improve and can do wonders with her magical voice shifting from rock to soul to pop to rnb... we will see... hope it won't be a bad karma for your IDOL Contestant... Good luck but we already have a VERY VERY VERY GOOD NEWS FOR JESSICA SANCHEZ AND I AM SURE SHE WILL BE VERY HAPPY TO KNOW THAT...
