American Idol ratings will drop this season says FOX president
Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly revealed on Sunday that he expects ratings for American Idol to drop this season. He however said that it is no cause for alarm and isn’t a sign of viewer fatigue. He went on to say that the ratings of Idol can drop by double digits and it would still be the #1 show on TV.
I love it! We’re still #1! Nothing can beat American Idol. Nothing.

With “American Idol” returning Jan. 18 for its 11th season and the familiar swirl of speculation, analysis and criticism already in high gear, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly Sunday sought to put the show’s success and position in perspective.
The ratings for “Idol,” he said, “can [drop] down in double digits for the rest of its natural life and it would still be the No. 1 show on TV.”
That’s a slight exaggeration, since a few shows on TV already challenge “Idol” in total viewership, including ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” and CBS’ top dramas like “NCIS.”
But a bad season for “Idol,” averaging perhaps 20 million viewers an episode, would be a career year for almost any other show.
That includes Fox’s own “The X Factor” and NBC’s “The Voice,” two more recent talent-competition shows that have drawn large audiences and not approached “Idol.”
Reilly told TV critics here that he expects “Idol” will have a ratings dropoff this season, and added that he would view that neither as a cause for alarm nor a sign viewers are getting tired of talent-competition shows.
“There’s a large passionate fan base for these shows,” he said. “When they get bored, we’ll know it.”

Wrong Rickey...'The Voice' can beat Idol and I predict it will beat them out given the recent marketing, the format, the better quality talent, the mentors (stars like XTina and Adam LOVEine who can actually sing)...I say Idol IS in fact suffering from viewer fatigue and is strapped with a boring judging panel. People are tired of the mutual admiration being slung back and forth and some are tired of the southern christian pandering on Idol. The fact that Fox President is already underselling the show and setting low expectations says a lot.

I'm going to post something later that I read from reality blurred -- American Idol must be really terrified of The Voice for them to be in such a defensive position.
Personally, I'm on the fence and I'm bullish for both shows. I actually want both to succeed this season. But I really want The Voice to do well so the Idol-bullies will stop. They did it with The X Factor, and I expect them to do the same to The Voice... and ironically to Idol itself! (Read: They're just haters, LOL)

People like Xenia and Beverly would have NEVER made it far on idol. You are an idiot. Idol's finale also rated 29 million viewers...The Voice had embarrassing ratings for a finale! HAHA to you! And the mentors besides maybe Blake are attention whores(Christina) or douches(Adam). You don't have facts to back up that the audience is "bored" of idol.

Mikhail XO Actually, its the Voice who is intimidated by idol. Otherwise they wouldn't have attacked idol all season long last year. And its almost a given that the premiere will be higher than idol's-its coming on after the Superbowl. But Glee did too, and we all saw where the ratings went after that...
Christina is now a flop, and Adam's career was going down the hole until this show saved it. Too bad the show couldn't save Dia's and Javier's careers, eh? I am rubbing it in your face NOW! Scotty is now platinum. Dia and Javier? Lets not talk about that....
And Aerosmith is a bigger band than all of them, so HA!

Julie_Idol More idiocy and lunacy from hostile DB Julie. Adam Levine lends his vocals to one platinum grammy song this year and goes platinum on another with the help of the talented XTina. That equals 2 platinum for Adam Levine (1+1=2). Maroon Five and AL were doing mighty fine before "The Voice". J-Ho's career (and marriage) were in the toilet and she is the one who needed a boost from Idull. Randy is a fat loser and as much as I have nothing against Steven Tyler...truth is, he can no longer sing (due to his age), his voice is gone, Aerosmith cannot perform full concert. Sure he's a legend...but let's face it: a pretty lame judge. Nice dude, bad judge ("oh, wow...that was great!").
