American Idol 11 Top 6 – Theme is Queen – Katy Perry & Stefano Langone Perform

It’s been confirmed! Rickey.org reported last night that Queen would be performing with American Idol’s Top 6 next week. That’s not all, folks! The remaining contestants will be taking on the songbook of…QUEEN! There is no word on a second theme, but the Queen songbook is pretty massive. The contestants will also be performing with band members Brian May and Roger Taylor!

Slated to perform on the results show is pop star Katy Perry performing her new song “Part of Me” and Season 10 alum Stefano Langone — who will debut his first single “I’m on a Roll.” Take a listen to it HERE.

Also, the Queen tribute band The Queen Extravaganza will be heating up with results stage as well.

Colton Dixon was eliminated tonight on AMERICAN IDOL after he received the fewest of the 53 million votes cast for the finalists. Also on tonight’s results show, LMFAO performed their smash hit, “Sorry For Party Rocking,” and AMERICAN IDOL Season Eight winner Kris Allen performed his new single, “The Vision Of Love.”

Next week, on Wednesday, April 25 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), the Top Six – Hollie Cavanagh, Skylar Laine, Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez and Elise Testone – return to the IDOL stage to sing for America’s votes on a Queen-themed performance show. The finalists also will get to perform a group medley with Brian May and Roger Taylor, original members of the legendary rock group Queen.

Tune in the following night, Thursday, April 26 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), to the live results show to find out which Top Six finalist is sent home. In addition, Katy Perry will perform her newest single, “Part of Me”; the official touring Queen tribute, The Queen Extravaganza, will perform their classic smash hit “Somebody To Love”; and AMERICAN IDOL Season 10 finalist Stefano Langone will perform his new single, “I’m On A Roll.”

So, guys, it’s time to speculate!!!

Just as a lot of us have been saying, Queen has been a resoundingly loser night on Idol: http://whatnottosing.com/artists.asp?id=212

The highest that anyone's ever been able to achieve with a Queen song is 90, then 81, then 68, and then everything just gets really middling after that. Just the fact that Nygel is revisiting a theme that's already been done AGAIN is a disservice in itself. Isn't he the least bit inventive to do something besides repetition? Just like Billy Joel night, it's been done before and I fear that this one will be a snoozer (although they have two songs apparently and the other one is just wide open which makes me happy but still worried). The only thing working in the nights favor is that you have *6 (That asterisk is for Philip, the no-notes street performer) very capable vocalists who know how to sing a song.

@Lombe @dizzyfeet Honestly, she should have gotten it for "Stuttering." It was an amazing performance and her near miss of the piano at the end only added to the charm. Really hope Philip and Josh are heading home next week and the week after that respectively.

Hollie - "Who Wants to Live Forever"

Jessica - "Somebody to Love" / "Show Must Go On"

Joshua - "Don't Stop Me Now"/ "Show Must Go On"

Phillip - "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" / "Under Pressure" / 'Killer Queen'

Skylar - "We Will Rock You"/ "Killer Queen"

I don't recommend 'Another One Bites the Dust', though. It's too prophetic. What do you guys think?

@fds Both are very difficult to sing. It could be risky for him. I think he should do "Crazy little Thing Called Love". That suits his style more.

I'm not looking forward to this at all. I like Queen but I keep getting flashbacks of the band members refusing to do a different version of their song for Ace Young in season 6. I understand that you have some principal or whatever when it comes to your material but it is not the tune of the gods. It deserves to be changed and melded into other things, especially sine the guy who made it famous was an artist who did the same thing every time he sang it (Rest in peace Freddy). Besides, Queen is a very.....particular sound. I have little doubt that the top 6 can pull it off. Except Philip :P

@Mg12 I actually see Hollie singing that. Jessica seems to go for more obscure pieces that offer up an artistic side of her. I really hope Elise doesn't do it cause that's way too obvious.

@takakupo @Mg12 Actually, I hope Elise does it. I think her raspy vocals would fit perfect to it. Besides, I think it's too dark a sound for Jessica.

Jessica should do "Somebody to Love" because it is a younger song AND Glee has covered it.

@jlscott13 She's got the range to sing a Queen ballad and she's worked on the attitude, but I'm just afraid she'll stumble with a particular artist out of her zone like she did in Billy Joel week.
