I’m not gonna hide my excitement for tonight any longer. AHHH! I just hope that Jessica comes out swinging tonight. She needs a wow moment to guarantee her spot in next week’s finale. Is it really that time already?!

Anyways, I will be live blogging the events of the night right here. Come back soon and often to check out my thoughts on the talent. Fingers crossed for Jessica!

“Who will make the finale?”

Note: Jessica looks amazing tonight.

JUDGES CHOICE

Joshua Ledet – “I’d Rather Go Blind” by Etta James – (Picked by Randy)

One of my all time favorite songs! Too predictable? Yea, just a little bit. He looks rather dashing tonight in a black suit with a red rose. He’s sounded pretty good tonight. He’s caressing his falsetto a bit. Showing restraint is always a good thing, Joshua. Midway through, he picks it up and throws the song on the ground. Admittedly, this was pretty good, but Rachel Crow on The X-Factor OWNS this song.

ANOTHER STANDING OVATION!!! Who saw that coming, huh?

Jessica Sanchez – “My All” by Mariah Carey (Picked by Jennifer Lopez )

LOVE THIS SONG! She’s definitely showing a more tender side to her vocals. This song takes so much restraint to handle. Pretty impressive for a 16-year-old. Some of her lower notes are a bit wobbly. Maybe they should have taken the song up a few steps? This was definitely one of her best performances, in my book. Based on vocals alone, she should make the finale. :) (Note: I am now a fanboy)

Randy thought it was absolutely beautiful. He called it one of the best times a Mariah song has ever been covered. Steven said she was the winner. (I predict he’ll forget and tells someone else the same thing)

Phillip Phillips – “Beggin'” by Madcon (Picked by Steven)

Huh. Interesting. I would never have thought he would sing this. He’s broken out his guitar for a sparse arrangement. Well, not for long. Before we know it, the full band kicks in. It’s lost some of that magic from the beginning. He should have stripped the song down completely.  Eh, not one of his best performances. His “Volcano” from last week was a million times better.

J.Lo said it was GREAT. Steven hopes he writes his own material. Randy: “We were just at a Phil Phillips concert.”

Round 1:

Randy said Joshua had the slight edge

J.Lo gave props to PP

Steven is on the fence

Jason says: Round 1 goes to Jessica/Joshua.

CONTESTANTS CHOICE

Joshua Ledet – “Imagine” by John Lennon

LOVE THIS SONG! But it’s been done to death on this show. David Archuleta OWNS this song. Just saying. He’s holding back his vocals, which is nice. Midway through, he adds in this screechy wail. There was something off about it though. Not my favorite performance from him.

Steven thought it was beautiful (does he not know any other words?). J.lo loved his restrained take on the song.

Jessica Sanchez – “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith

Oh, this song. She’s doing something very different than I would have expected. There is a string arrangement that’s quite nice. I wouldn’t have picked this song, personally. Allison Iraheta OWNS this song. I’ll be honest: Vocally, this is great, but there is something missing from it? Not quite sure. Pretty good, though. It sat there a little too long for me, but she nailed the ending note! VOTE FOR HER. ;)

Steven thought she took a great song and made it greater! J.Lo loved her last note.  Randy thought she delivered a big moment.

Phillip Phillips – “Disease” by Matchbox Twenty

I grew up listening to this band. Love this song. This is a nice chill performance, but I’m not sure most of the younger generations will connect to it. But really, does that even matter at this point? This is much better than his first performance. Dare I say, a little sexy? Bonus: The blonde saxophone player is back!

J.lo didn’t feel like it was a wow performance. Steven said it was a PP performance.

JIMMY’S CHOICE

Joshua Ledet – “No More Drama” by Mary J. Blige

OH. Yes. The song starts out with just a piano. OMG. His shoulders are bedazzled!!! Am I becoming a Joshua fan? Because I’m really diggin’ this. Am I sick? Towards the end, he brings the flavor, and it’s far less annoying than usual. He then RIPS off his jacket. He’s really gettin’ into the song. Best of the night (so far)? Yup.

J.lo said he had a “perfect marriage” of control and letting go. Magic! (Um, she might not be the right person to give advice about a “perfect marriage.” #JustSaying)

Jessica Sanchez – “I’ll Be There” by the Jackson 5

Oh man. This song? I can’t. Why would Jimmy pick such an old song for her? Forget his blabber about the youth and whatnot. However, Jessica sounds pretty great on this. (Can you tell I want her to win, yet?) She shows restraint (I’m getting tired of this word) and power on the bigger parts of the song, especially towards the end. The arrangement is rather sleepy, but I blame that on Jimmy. Ugh. Are they sabotaging this girl?!?!?! VOTE!

J.lo thought she killed it so hard at the end. Steven loved it (was there ever any doubt?). It was just OK for Randy.

Phillip Phillips – “We’ve Got Tonight” by Bob Seger

Good song. He starts on a stool with stars dangling above his head. Simple piano. This is actually pretty good. It’s tender and sweet — something we haven’t seen much from him. There are a few moments that seemed off or that he was straining, but I thought this was the perfect choice for him. One of his best performances of the competition, for sure.

STANDING OVATION!!! I wonder who they want in the finale?!?!

Jason Says: Round 3 goes to Joshua

Best Performances of the Night:

Jessica’s “My All”

Joshua’s “No More Drama”

Finale Should Be: Jessica/Joshua

Finale Will Be: Joshua/Phillip

That’s a wrap, folks! Next week is the finale, and after the judges’ performance tonight, I don’t see how a Joshua/PP finale won’t happen. They bot got standing O’s, and Jessica was given some pretty lame song choices. It was obvious that they steam rolled Jessica tonight. Oy.

Can a girl win this show?

NOTE: For those that believe in conspiracy theories, the Kristy Lee Cook Curse applies to PP (he’s from Leesburg, GA).

What did you guys think of the night? What was the best performance? Worst performance?
