American Idol 11 Hollywood Week starts Feb. 8
Nigel Lythgoe announced on Twitter that Hollywood Week of American Idol 11 starts next week. This coincides with changes made on the FOX schedule where the audition show for Feb. 8 was replaced with “Hollywood Round, Part 1″.
Again, The Voice (which premieres this weekend and next week) is affecting FOX scheduling. First, they included a special show after the NFC Championship game in response to The Voice airing after the Super Bowl. And now sensing The Voice will actually have a faster pace in terms of moving contestants through auditions, they have decided to scrap a show and deprive us of some performances. I’m a bit disappointed that Idol is on the defensive when they are the more popular show!
Nevertheless, voting rounds still begin on March 7 — a MONTH from now — so this scheduling change doesn’t really matter for those of you who want things to go faster.
From Nigel Lythgoe:
Hollywood starts next week for #AmericanIdol. There are plenty of great auditions to come.
THE SEARCH FOR THE NEXT SUPERSTAR MOVES TO HOLLYWOOD ON AN ALL-NEW “AMERICAN IDOL” WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, ON FOX
Judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler join host Ryan Seacrest in Hollywood, where some dreams will come true and others will come to an end. The intensity of the competition heats up as hopefuls chosen from around the nation vie for a coveted semifinalist spot.
THE SEARCH FOR THE NEXT SUPERSTAR CONTINUES IN HOLLYWOOD ON AN ALL-NEW “AMERICAN IDOL” THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, ON FOX
Tensions are at an all-time high as the Hollywood Round continues and judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler further narrow down the contestants. Some will leave with shattered dreams, others will proceed in the competition.

WaynoCoaster In the past, the Idol audition rounds maintained viewership and were good, but only due to Simon's participation. He made them funny and entertaining. That, of course, ended last season. Steve Tyler is benign, but has already seemingly checked out....JHo is annoying and takes herself too seriously and Randy plain sucks. I love 3 of the 4 judges of The Voice and yes...the pacing is much more conducive to those of us with limited attention spans actually making it through a full show.
Mikhail XOWaynoCoaster The Voice also seems to have way more current artists than Idol. The whole purpose is to find a recording artist, correct? Having someone sing 1960's standards on Idol doesn't sound conductive to that...
I'm not sure about your journalistically integrity with regard to this piece. 'Idol' may be the "more popular" show simply by virtue of the fact that it preceded The Voice by 10 seasons and has had that enormous marketing advantage. However, the Voice is clearly getting more buzz and I (unbiasedly, of course) feel it is due in large part to Adam Levine and his renewed popularity (I don't think I ever mentioned this before, but he is also smokin' hot ). The Voice is like the new cute guy in school...people still need to get to know him before they dump the jock they've been dating for years. Critics are hot for The Voice, and most I've read are looking forward to it more than tired ol' Idol.

Mikhail XO I am looking forward to The Voice. You know this. I'm getting ready for the weekend and next week.

I feel the Voice far surpasses Idol in pacing the scheduling. We can get excited and look forward to Idol premiering and then it's all fodder let down for TWO AND ONE HALF MONTHS. That is why Nigel is starting Hollywood earlier. I looked 3 days ago and Idol had 8 full weeks of crappy auditions. Idol isn't any good any more until the final 8. The Voice is only going to be stronger this year. Like the X factor. Idol beware. Tyler is honestly tired. Randy should have been the first to go, and Lopez is looking for an EZ paycheck with a stalled movie and music career. Watch Melanie's Pepsi commercial Sunday and I think we have a new star.
