Allison Iraheta won “Quinceañera: Mama Quiero Ser Artista” in 2007
Allison Iraheta won Telemundo’s “Quinceañera: Mama Quiero Ser Artista” (Sweet Fifteen: Mom, I Want to be an Artist) in 2007. She won a recording contract and $50,000. However, it looks like she never recorded an album because of legal troubles of the show — a rival network barged into the studios with 19 police officers and began to seize camera equipment.
Allison sang “Total Eclipse of the Heart” in the finale.

Got Something to Add?
I'm not sure why everyone gets their panties in a bunch over the contestants seeking out recording contracts before their stints on the show. Are you looking for singers who really don't take singing seriously? Who just kind of sing on the side and then plop onto idol one day? I mean, it would be a different story if someone like Rihanna somehow popped up one day on American Idol. Then we'd be like "Um - think you already found success, get off our show". But I didn't know any of these contestants before idol and I'm pretty sure none of you did, so that to me = undiscovered talent, whether they recorded a cd or not. In fact, to me, the fact that they have such a passion for song that they have been actively pursuing their dreams of singing for a living prior to Idol only makes me want to hear from and root for them more.
So... this was Allison's worst performance on the show.... youtube her "Antologia" performance, a great Shakira song. I knew this already... and who cares! I also saw Adam as the understudy on Wicked... he is MORE of a stage professional than anyone that has ever been on the AI. --so quit it.
Allison doesn't impress me, even with her former win on the Spanish show. Her voice just isn't pretty, and she's always sounds like she has laryngitis to me. She's all style, with very little else, and her style is certainly not original. In addition to her failing to wow, she has a horrible look. You know, she's cute in a way, but, that hair is so hideously ugly that it makes her look like a 45 year old crack ho streetwalker. Think about it, she really does look old, cheap and hardened.
Allison song choice "Black Velvet" "Bette Davis Eyes" ome Gloria Estefan songs, 1,2,3.. or "Any thing for you" she is so good she can sing anything..go Allison..you're the best!
Prove 'em wrong. Make an Allison T shirt. Use some Spanish on it, like ....
Allison, la reina del rock!
I will be the first to pop out my credit card.
Old news. I think like others here, Rickey is trying to depreciate Allison, since Kris is in danger of being voted off next week.
And I agree with Maci. Allison and Adam have to be the final two, they are the best contestants over there.
Allison is sensational..I have one request this coming rock week, I would love to hear to choose "Crusin" by Huey Lewis and Gwenthen Paltow with Adam or Danny for a duet.
If Adam or Danny had won a singing contest and had the opportunity to record, as well as the exposure, people would go mad. Here Allison has had the opportunities, and nothing came of them. It shows me that she lacks star qualities. She has a decent voice, but, honestly, it's not anything amazingly special. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of wannabes like her. I will say that she looks better with her hair like it is in the video than it looks now. SHe has probably the ugliest hairdo I've ever seen, which makes her face look like a hardened old person, and her skin look weird and dirty. She needs to go home.
I don't think Rickey is biased in terms of what he is predicting the results to be. He supported Anoop and Kris and had called them to be eliminated before they were. He predicted Kris would be eliminated this week, but he is obviously still in. He also predicted Anoop would leave a week or two sooner than he did.
And yeah this has been kinda old news- like someone else mentioned, it has been on wikipedia from the beginning since the top 10. I wondered why nobody seemed to care when other contestants in the past have gotten major backlash when the news broke.
It must be difficult for her to be the last standing female contestant, but she seems to be very poised each week.
The one thing I really liked about this video is that this reality show lets the singers actually sing an entire song for a much longer amount of time.
I wish AI would stretch the songs out more, it would be a better indicator of each singer's capabilities -- and more entertaining.
who cares about all of this!!! the show is just pure entertainment, nothing more....if you so so much about who is professional or who isn't than don't watch the show!!!!
I actually got the impression that Rickey didn't especially like Allison also.
1. He never even made a t-shirt w/ her face on it.
2. He openly supports 6 candidates this season, including Scott, Lil and Anoop. He has not supported Allison.
3. He placed her into the fourth place position, which I suspect he organizes based on how he wants to happen. Kris and Adam are #1 and #2 respectively.
4. Now he's posting an old news piece about how Allison won this competition, linking it to a pretty shaddy website that makes a bunch of crazy claims without any evidence.
To whoever thinks it's okay for Archie to have competed but not Allison:
Star Search is a well known contest in America and the prize was 100K. Unlike Allison, this show seems to be a Spanish show with Allison only winning half of what Archie won.
And also, I don't think this is like the Joanna Pacitti incident because Joanna knew alot of people in the business (including Kara; watch back Joanna's audition and Kara says, "I know you! You're Joanna Pacitti.")
Why does everyone immediately get so hostile. Rickey didn't anything pro or con he just stated the facts. He doesn't hate any contestants. He loves all the contestants and American Idol. Dude is the ultimate fan. He rarely even has anything negative to say about a contestant.
People need to stop being so hair-trigger defensive.
You go, Allison!
I loved her last (top 5) song the best so far, 'Someone to Watch Over Me' (it was so lovely to hear the soft, slightly sad, vulnerable side of her voice).
I don't think this has anything to do with whether Rickey likes Allison or not (I've never gotten the impression he doesn't like her). It's news... he puts up news about idols... he obviously likes Adam and put up the pics of Adam cross-dressing and kissing another guy which could be received negatively by some... he put up the info about Kris having an album before...
It makes ABSOLUTELY no difference to me that she won this show. I still doubt that her PROFESSIONAL resume is as long as the other remaining contestants. I feel that this little girl has always performed fantastically on AI but has only recently began to draw the well-deserved praise of the judges. Good for her!
her stage presence has certainly gotten better since then...she looked like epilepsy on stage at some points. i thought she sounded pretty good in the middle tho.
She is on her way to win idol. Take the crown! I love this girl!
I knew of this, it is what helps back my opinion that she really could win.
Regardless she is already a star. You can try your best to get her fanbase to reduce or her votes but it aint going to make a difference to Allisons career eventually. I see each week you highlight something about Allison in a negative light.
Wow - this video shows just how much better Allison's come since starting American Idol. If not the American Idol, definitely the most improved.
This isn't new news. It's on her wikipedia page nad elsewhere online. What a disappointment it must have been for the contract to fall through due to legal problems. I don't have a problem with her being on idol. I didn't have a problem with DA either because they are younger, growing artists. I had more of a problem with the adult idol contestants who had been Nashville Star finalists because I figured if they were good enough to make it, they would have with those opportunities.
Thanks for posting the video--she sure has matured in her stage presence!
She won the contract, but it was never granted. She did get the 50 grand. But, all the posts I have seen about Adam being a professional--well--? Kris produced an album, Danny was a paid professional choir director, Matt was an employee of a dueling piano bar. So--if "professional" means being paid for a service--ALL are. They are within the rules set by Idol.
Moonie, Archie was on Star Search as a kid. That's not close to the same as winning a contest just one year before you audition for idol, a contest that is just like Idol with a recording contract prize. Whether you actually get to cut the album you won a contract for or not is moot.
She is not the first contestant(*cough*DavidArchuleta*cough*)to have formerly been on a singing show. This shouldn't be held against her.
Last year, David Cook made a good point on one of his TV interviews. He answered the topic about it wasn't fair for him to win AI when he had already been trying to get a recording contract. He replied that he worked to get to where he was at...he's right. All of these current contestants are doing just that -- working to gain a career.
I thought this was already known news. I wonder if people will look at her differently now that they know she already won a contract?
I don't begrudge the girl her talent, but I don't know how I feel about this. Honestly, a little peeved, I think. It's like Joanna Pacitti, only a little less because it seems poor Allison didn't get to make an actual record. Joanna just blew her shot.
She's certainly gotten better but I'm bitter to see that she's already won a TV/recording contract contest. I hate these ringers.
