Alex Wong Injured – Ruptured Achilles Tendon?
Tragedy! Alex Wong got injured in yesterday’s practice and did not participate in tonight’s live show on So You Think You Can Dance.
Nigel Lythgoe said Alex took an MRI and they fear that he may have a ruptured achilles tendon.
Alex is automatically in the Bottom 3 tomorrow and if he cannot participate in the next week, he is automatically eliminated. Let’s hope for the best!
It cannot end like this for Alex!

Got Something to Add?
Prayers and positive energy for Alex. This is devastating for him and for the show. He brings such beauty and grace to the art of dancing. I honestly don't want to watch the show as the caliber of dancing has simply diminished. As an athelete he will do the necessary rehab to dance fully again.
I am glad that Mia Michaels apologized to Adechike-she wasn't a judge but an executioner.
I feel I'm gonna loose all interest in the show if Alex is forced to leave. They should let him come back next year at least.
Outlook for Achilles tendon rupture, from www.emedicinehealth.com:
•Most studies indicate a better outcome with surgery. Athletes can expect a faster return to activity with a lower incidence that the injury will happen again.
•Typically as the rupture site heals, a small lump remains from the scarring.
•Weight bearing commonly begins at about 6 weeks with a heel support.
•Return to running or athletics is traditionally about 4-6 months. With motivation and rigorous physical therapy, elite athletes may return to athletics as early as 3 months after injury.
I could not believe when I heard news. Heart-broken!! Can't say enough how much that I like, love, Alex Wong. He is the best of everything for a dancer. I wish I can offer some help! The show isn't the same without him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
This is tragic. Alex is an amazing dancer - front runner for this season. His presence makes the show that much more interesting to watch. Like everyone else has said, it has been such a long journey for Alex to get here and it seems a bit cruel if it ends this way. Wish him nothing but the best.
it was heartbreaking to see alex sit there and not perform..hope the injury is not too serious..I so wanna watch him dance...
A ruptured achilles tendon won't end his career but he isn't going to be dancing for a long time. Depends how bad it is too but it usually always requires surgery.
@jologs2010 - haha. I knew that someone would bring out the Asian card!. I honestly thought that this is a conspiracy of some sort. You know. They probably want Billy Bell or Kent Boyd to win and if either makes it to the finals with Alex and the voting is out of the judges hands... then America would vote for Alex. Furthermore, they knew that Alex was a frontrunner and was clearly on track to make it to the finals... with him gone the 'conclusion' would be a mystery of some sorts and less predictable. I remember reading a Youtube comment for the Alex/Twitch hip hop routine and the poster said something along the lines of, "ok, Alex will not will the comp. since frontrunners never do."
Other than Ashley from last season, there was also another girl from last season who also got injured and got a free pass. forgot her name but she's Molly's best friend and also danced contemporary. i believe it was only the 1st week and she was unable to perform but she was not put in the bottom 3 the next day and got a free pass.
there is really no room for asians in this show. either the judges will eliminate asians early or if they like the asian, the asian will be injured and therefore be eliminated. bad fate for us asians all the time. asians always have the worst luck!
damn you achilles' mom, couldn't you just hold him by the finger when you dipped him in the holy water. --this really has nothing to do with anything
all the best Alex!
This is an example of why I haven't voted in three years. If it were a lesser dancer, they would be in more jeopardy. Yes, Alex is wonderful, possibly the best dancer in the finalists. But he is seriously injured. I don't think that injury will heal in so little time. He might injure himself permantly if he tries to force it. Now, that would be a great shame.
Do I remember wrong that in a past season an injured finalist was eliminated? I hope I am wrong. I love watching the show because those young people are very talented. I will not vote again, however, because I don't think the audience's votes really count. In the end, it always seems that the one the judges like best wins.
"Achilles tendon is a potentially career ending injury"
Yikes...I'm not the biggest fan, but this would be a horrible way to go out for good, especially considering all he did go through to get on that stage.
If he is indeed unable to dance and is eliminated, I wish him luck for a complete recovery. He has a career for sure once this show ends.
This is such a loss for him and for the season. He is such an amazing dancer and to have sacrificed everything for this opportunity to find new ways to express himself in dance is simply a crushing blow for all of us. Prayers and positive healing energy to you Alex.
This is ridiculous...I know he's injured but how come they can save Ashley from last season without her dancing, but not for Alex?
Alex is an amazing person. An Achilles injury can be serious, but am hoping he can continue. So sad, for such a deserving dancer. Fingers and toes crossed for you.
Oh crap - achilles tendon is a potentially career ending injury. That would be just heartbreaking for this young man whose heart is clearly in dance and who might be one of the next greats on the ballet scene. Wow - I hope this heals for him without permanent aftereffects. I'm so intrigued and enthralled by him, and I'm hoping to follow his career for years to come. A shame if he has to leave the show, but an even bigger shame if it affects his life's work.
Oh man, my heart broke for him. Knowing how much he wanted all of this and then seeing that hurt on his face. Made me tear up. I really hope his injury is nothing serious and he'll be able to return.
If not though, then I just hope he gets better and gets back to doing what he loves.
Pasha's partner Jessie in season 3 was hospitalized and could not perform. She was put into the final three and even danced the Cha-cha with Pasha. She perform her solo which unfortunately was not that great and she was sent packing home.
There was Jessica King who was partnered with Will Wingfield who made it into the top 10 but couldn't continue on the show because of an injury. Then we got Comfort Fedoke back. Oh joy!
Donyelle Jones danced the entire series with a foot injury if I remember correctly.
Injuries are very common in the dance world unforutnately. I do hope that it is not a serious injury for Alex and he can continue on his dream of participating on So You Think You Can Dance. If not I hope he recovers fully and goes on to do amazing endeavors in the dance world. We may very well be seeing the next Barishnekov which apparently was the same man on Sex and the City.
I think the difference in rules has to do with who is in charge with sending the contestants home. At this point the judges have the final say after the viewers pick the bottom 3. In Ashley's case I think they were already down to the final 8 (?) and the decision was out of the judges hands. Because for this season, at this point in time, the judges are making decisions, Alex's case is more like the situation with Jessie (partnered with Pasha) who could not perform due to illness. She was automatically put in the bottom 3 and then the judges decided to have her leave.
I suspect they changed the rules as a result of what happened with Ashley last year, which was a travesty. A few crocodile tears from her husband, and America votes her into the finale? Please. That was awful.
Still, I sure wish they'd make an exception for Alex. This breaks my heart. I so hope that they're wrong and that his injury is not as serious as they suspect. We love you, Alex!
