Alan Rickman, Star of ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Die Hard’, Dead at 69
The entertainment industry has lost another iconic British entertainer.
Alan Rickman, who played Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films, has died at age 69 following a battle with cancer. His death was confirmed by his family who stated the actor died “surrounded by family and friends”.
In addition to Harry Potter, Rickman was perhaps best known for his role as the villainous Hans Gruber in the 1988 action movie classic Die Hard, and the similarly treacherous Sheriff of Nottingham in 1991’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. He was a consummate actor who, despite never winning an Academy Award, won an Emmy, a BAFTA, and a Golden Globe, just to name a few honors he accumulated over his distinguished career. Rickman also had a keen sense of comedic timing in acclaimed comedies such as Galaxy Quest and Love, Actually.
Put simply, Rickman was one of the finest actors of his generation, and his loss is immense. After losing David Bowie to cancer on Monday at age 69, it seems like 2016 is already off to a really sad start. Rickman will absolutely be missed, not only by his colleagues but by his fans. Our condolences are with his family and friends.
