Really odd as entertainment news and Broadway are the only things he has going for him, and he disses both in about 30 secs. The sad thing is that their conversation is really just a reflection of the attitude of many.

It wasn’t the fact that he claims to have “gaydar” or even that he publicly speculated about David A.’s sexuality (which was inappropriate) — it’s the fact that they imply that it’s a negative.
I’m the proud mother of a gay son. He just is who he is. So the sad reality that his sexuality is something to be ridiculed for the amusement of others is really upsetting.

I’m not going to lower myself to that level by firing back, even though my first impulse was to fly off the handle. I just hope a day will come when a person’s sexuality is a non-issue.

I forgot to mention that I totally abhor this trash talk that they did, I know most unaware “straight” guys do this talk, but just see how other “straight” guys like David Cook, Michael Johns talk to and deal with Archie. The boy is a kid, if ever he turns out to be gay it is his prerogative and nobody else, if he is not gay, it is discrimination to out him out this early when they really don’t know him in public radio. The kid maybe effeminate at times, but actually it’s very cute and dorky, I saw his extra appearance and when he walk out of their studio with a backpack, it’s just so cute. I’m really convinced now that he is genuinely innocent as any kid with that kind of upbringing can be.

Is there any way to get a message directly to Constantine? I’m really angered b his comments (as we all are). I’ve been to 2 websites I found (Bestweekever.tv and EvilBeetGossip.film.com) and left some appropriate comments. Hopefully they will make their way to Constantine eventually. Although I doubt that he would even care. How in the world can he SAY that he foud Jesus??? Last time I checked – a person who finds Jesus does NOT trash others – especially a very, very talented 17 year old young man. I met David Achuleta yesterday in LA and I can honestly say that he is the most sincere, gracious, humble, caring person I have come across in years. I hate the politis of this whole thing. I’m gay, and have hated Constantine since I first saw him, and this was hardly offensive to me.

What is offensive is the way everyone cracks down into defensive mode when he suggests someone is gay. By crying “NO HE IS NOT!” it really comes across as sending the message that being gay is a bad thing. Constantine didn’t say anything negative about David, and I personally believe he is indeed gay. That shouldn’t be a bad thing, though, and all these defensive replies say quite a bit.

When I hear someone accuse a person of being gay, I don’t care. It’s when society feels that we have to cover up/deny being gay it when it hurts. Constantine mentioned all his best friends are gay.

The same sex cruise thing was the only mildly hurtful bit, but I could brush that off. I sure as hell wouldn’t mind being on that cruise.

Indo, that is my plan. Get everyone I know to email fox. I posted the email link on every forum I can find this morning. Including other contestant boards, etc. We need to get as many people to email FOX as we can. Maybe that will help them see the light. I don’t want an apology, I want him fired. A lot of Cook fan’s are stepping up and emailing too. I’ve also gotten a ton of feeback from Jason and Michael’s fans as well offering to help by emailing Fox.

I realize that often this sort of discussion does come across as an indication that being gay is a negative, and I’m sorry for that.

To me, the offensive part is any discussion of his orientation. He is a minor and he has stated on numerous occasions that he is waiting for romance because it is a distraction. I have a smart teen at home with the exact same viewpoint, so I’m not surprised by it.

This gaydar thing bugs me. Some of the gay people in my life look and act gay; others don’t. It’s such a personal issue.

Remember that David A is from Utah. I grew up in a little town in Utah, and the way he acts is very much in character with his culture. He is such a sweet boy, and seems quite sheltered. He probably has not had much freedom to have any kind of “sexuality”, and if he is following the traditions that he comes from, that won’t come out until later anyway. Constantine actually has no idea what he is talking about. Just because he has been in the “theatre” does not mean he knows much about human nature.

And, yes, Sanjaya is way more sexy than Constantine, and many girls were in love with him during the tour (including me).

The only reason so-called “straight” guys go out of their way to bash guys they think are gay is because they feel the need to establish their own superiority over something that “threatens” them.

First of all, I’ll put it out there for the record that if I support a singer, I could care less if he/she is gay or straight. People who make it an issue have unresolved issues of their own that need tending to. In the first place, David A and Sanjaya are kids (ok, even if Sanjaya has turned 18, that’s still a young’un in my book). Their sexuality, whatever it may be, has no bearing on me as a woman of 40. As hesterprunne said, why would you care unless you were going to marry or go to bed with them? That might be an issue for a certain segment of the fanbase, I suppose-if you’re a 16 or 17-year-old girl, perhaps-but not for many.

And if Sanjaya was indeed “slaying” girls during the tour, well, as long as it was after his 18th birthday, good for him (lol!). Sounds like Constacrap is just much jealous to me that someone he thinks ought to be gay just might be getting more action than he is. But unless this greaseball was on the tour (and he wasn’t) he doesn’t know squat about ANYTHING he’s saying.

As a gay man, I don’t find this nearly a offensive as the majority of posters here. I don’t find anything wrong with being gay, though.

The feeling I get in reading these posts is that people find the “gay” label an insult to David A. I really hope not. In the year 2008, people need to not have a knee jerk reaction to the gay label.

Straight people do seem to think being gay is only a negative. And it’s not. David A. could very well be gay. And who really cares?

The headline on this thread made me think I was going to be hearing the most vile expletives in the english language. If ‘gay’ was that expletive, then I suggest some of you might want to get out into the world a bit more. ‘Being gay’ is not that offensive.

At least part of what offended me is that Constantine gave his impression of David’s orientation for his own benefit–to say something juicy and get attention for himself. Long time lurker, first time poster. I’m curious as to what feminine traits DA has? Is it because he is moral? Or of good character? Because he doesn’t use foul language? Somebody tell me please? Just because young people(boys) choose to be moral doesn’t make them gay or even naive. I have three sons in their 20’s. All of them are attractive, intelligent young men. The two oldest are married with babies and the youngest is a very popular musician who dates very frequently and is looking for someone who to be serious with. They were all moral, soft-spoken and yes even well-dressed. They are NOT GAY and neither is David. I agree that David would be mortified at this conversation. I don’t believe it is polite to talk about anyone’s sexuality. IT is supposed to be private.

He’s not gay! He’s only 17 from Utah. I came from a small island 2 south east asia, where people can’t have sex before they marry or even a girl friend/boyfriend until we finish college (we don’t / can’t work while we@ school, you have to have a degree to find a job).

WC#45, it’s possible that David A. might be gay, but I do believe he’s genuinely innocent with little to no sexual experience, and with his religious background, I doubt he is aware of what his sexuality is or might be. He seems like a late bloomer, which means he probably won’t really know until he’s well into his 20s.

I honestly don’t care because I fall hard for the gay boys too! You know, whatever floats your boat, it’s all good.

I would like to enjoy Archie and his innocence at 17 a little while longer before people start trashing him. And, yes, I did interpret Constantine’s “gaydar” comments as trash-talking. Not because there is anything wrong with being gay but because he was very publicly forcing a sexual identity onto a kid who probably doesn’t yet know who or what he is sexually. And based on his religious background, that could be very traumatic.

I appreciate Archie’s “soft masculinity,” for want of a better word (somehow, effeminate doesn’t work for me). Let’s give the kid a break!

I actually prefer men who are more soft-spoken and sensitive. I believe that David is a fine young man who will make a wonderful husband and father. Can I also say that just because his father has been viewed as “intense” (per Simon)does not make him abusive in any way. My husband and I are both mild mannered until someone is unkind to one of our younger children, especially if it is towards my 10 year old autistic son. We become very protective and our claws definitely come out. I believe that this is more who Jeff Archuleta is and should be applauded for caring so much about his son. I also believe that he will know when it is time to take a backseat in David’s career. That’s what good parents do even when it is difficult.

ITTO #85, How are you so sure that David isn’t gay by that article? I’m not saying that he is but try to put yourself in his shoes. He’s living under a microscope right now where everything he says and does is reported to the world. He’s also an active member of a religion where they only publicly accept the traditional Ozzie and Harriet lifestyle, and anyone who does not live that way is not accepted in their way of life. What do you think he’s going to say? “Yeah, I’m gay?” Or, “Right now I’m deciding which way I’m going to go?” I hate it when people ask him questions like that just to try and get him to drop a bombshell for ratings. Leave the poor kid alone about his sexual preference and let him tell us when he’s ready. I also agree with #64. The label of “gay” I think is the real issue here. Who cares what Constipated or whatever his name says?? The real issue here is the shock when someone dares to say that David might be gay. It’s all speculation either way. Only David knows how he really feels sexually, if he even has those feelings yet anyways. I am gay, and when I was his age, I went to prom as a group date with my friends, and I guess they all thought I was straight because I never thought of myself as otherwise. I was attracted to guys but never thought of myself as “gay” because the only gay people I knew at the time acted more like Danny Noriega and I am much more “straight acting”. I remember finally understanding that I was gay right around my 21st birthday and up until then I was still a virgin. I was very shy around both guys and girls, I would flinch when anyone would touch me, and I absorbed myself with hobbies the whole time. Sex never was really an issue until I finally understood who I was. Maybe David is in the same situation, who knows?

Again, if David is gay then good for him. If he’s not, then good for him. All I know is that it irritates me when people back him into a corner with these very direct questions and then run back saying, “See, there’s no way he can be gay because he said this…” It’s like people can’t bare the thought of their little David not being the perfect person in their minds, almost like they have some sort of ownership over him.

Also, if Constantine makes a comment like he did…who cares?? Yeah, the whole same sex thing on the cruise ship was a homophobic comment by an idiot, but isn’t he entitled to free speech as well? If you don’t like what he says then let him know. Write to him, or call into his show. Don’t demand that that loses his job. It’s silly. I’m a democrat who watches alot of CNN, and if I wanted the job of every conservative who got on there spewing their family values/gays are inferior rhetoric then there would be no one on tv with any other views than my own.

I say let him say stupid things and make an ass out of himself. Eventually his show will lose viewers, it will get cancelled, and Constipated will be on that cruise ship he was talking about as the second rate lounge act that he is.

I left this thread after sending my email to Fox, but this has been bugging me all night. There were some people above who thought our reactions were suggesting being gay is a negative. It has been bothering me and I could see their point of view so I wanted to clarify why I am so offended by Constantine’s interview.

1) This guy and the two radio djs openly speculate about a minor’s sexual orientation. This is a very personal matter for anyone, especially a sensitive 17 year old. Although they did not specifically make an out and out disparaging comment, the whole conversation just smacks of the “good old boys” joking, laughing, and winking at each other to assure us all of their “manlihood” while suggesting it is acceptable to question sexuality and reduce a gay person to his/her sexual preference only, not what should define a person: genuineness, empathy, kindness, strength of character.

2) Constantine’s statement that “all my friends are gay” is a big, loud, warning siren. Anytime someone says, “I have a lot of black friends” I know they feel they have to prove they are ok with black people. It has just the opposite effect. If they were not uncomfortable in some way they would see them as friends, not their “black friends”.

3) I think he was suggesting that Sanjaya was hooking up with a lot of women on the tour and says he is the “gaaaayyyyest” (in the most offensive tone he could use) person. He then goes on to say about the women “If you were a woman, would you be proud of that?” I think the women facing regrets are the ones who hooked up with Constantine.

4) He found Jesus. Ya. I don’t want to offend others so I won’t comment on this one.

Regardless of whether Constantine thinks or allegedly knows someone is gay is not the point. The fact that he felt the need to even discuss it during an interview is completely offensive.

1. who cares if either sanjaya or david are gay?
2. it is not funny, to even suggest that david will have “difficulty” with his father for losing AI
3. it was wrong of him to even speculate about david’s chances of success post AI. one would think that each contestant in their mind thinks that some level of success or opportunity is headed their way now…why did he feel the need to diminish that.
4. AI will “somehow lose a million votes” hmm
5. Katherine and Taylor “pissed” off the wrong people and look at their careers? hmm

So, basically, in one interview, he offends 1. members of the gay community 2. level headed and open minded members of the straight community 3. david fans 4. sanjaya fans 5. kat fans 6. taylor fans 7. implies that AI tosses votes 8. AI and record labels conspire to damage careers of those who do not conform.

He is lucky he doesn’t face multiple lawsuits. Sadly, I believe nothing will come of this. At least it wont help the jerk sell any more albums or land him any more spots.

As much as I do not like Ryan, the thought of him hosting AI made me do a spit take in laughter.

First of all, this whole thing was started by Vote For The Worst. You can go on their site and see that somebody started this to stir things up. If you want to read what THEY say about David Archuleta, be prepared because it is 1000x worse than anything Constantine said. So, by going on and on and on about this, you are playing right into their hands because they WANT the rumor about David A out there and as an added bonus, they like to trash Constantine. This stuff about David A has also been on the Idol forums and it is pretty trashy and raunchy and lots of posts have been deleted because of it. I think what Constantine said was beyond stupid and awful. I personally believe David A is just a naiive kid. The Carly thing is another prime example of the damage done on the internet. The terrible things written about her were uncalled for and some of those things were written on these boards. I believe that’s why she went home early and that pissed me off, because I’d have liked to enjoy what she could have brought to the competition. It seems that Constantine has not learned the basic laws of show business: comments of the type that he expressed will only attract merciless scrutiny.

The counterattack will always follow, and someone as monumentally unsuccessful as Constantine Maroulis is an easy target. He would be better off not attracting any attention of this type.

Blake Lewis has alienated several fanbases with his comments about his fellow contestants. His album has sold some 270,000 copies and is regarded as a failure after all the exposure from American Idol.

Chad – Who said Constantine doesn’t have the right to say what he did? He said it didn’t he? Yeah, he has the right. Just like the people who feel his remarks were inappropriate also have the right to say so. That’s how it works.

No matter what the remarks were the main issue to me is their effect on David and who made them. Constantine is on Idol’s payroll and a supposed member of the “Idol family”. He made comments that he had to know would be embarrassing to David and his family. Frankly, his attempt to make a joke about David’s father beating him shocked me. I thought that was a problem before Constantine ever got around to speculating about David’s sexual orientation. First, it’s hurtful to the entire Archuleta family who have said that this isn’t true and second, who makes a joke about child abuse? I thought it was tasteless and the fact that it would come from someone associated with Idol is sad.

As for the gay issue I feel pretty confident that most people don’t care. What I care about is that the comments both about abuse and sexual orientation came from someone employed by Idol and would be embarrassing and hurtful to David. These are personal issues that are private and not a punchline. That these remarks were made at the expense of a very innocent kid who has been a class act and represented Idol well for the entire season really bothers me. And for the record, I’m a Cook fan. The entire incident was unnecessary and a big disappointment to me as an Idol fan.

I have emailed Fox Reality already and expressed my complete disgust with the content of this interview. There are always people like this pathetic douche bag named Constantine Maroulis in this world who hold opinions that are troublesome but the point is not that it’s bad that he exists or that his opinions are nothing new because they have already been expressed elsewhere as some posters have said on other sites. His co-hort on AI Extra, former contestant, Gina Glockson, struck me as tacky also (though not to the degree as Con WipeAss), when she said outright in an interview I heard that had instruments been allowed on the show during the season she competed, Jordin Sparks would not have won. She gave an emphatic no, which showed such a sourgrapes attitude and tackiness considering she is not (again) some casual observer of AI but an Idol alumni to be openly and publicly denouncing the season 6 winner. She too is someone I disliked quite a bit when she was a contestant. She was full of herself just like Constantine Maroulis, the slime ball. Ugh, two cheese balls on one show. Natalia – I never said people don’t have the right to make a fuss over his comments. My point was that people on here are calling for his job because of the comments. I think it’s ridiculous. Yeah, he is employed by American Idol. So what? Should we start censoring what people say now so they don’t offend anyone? In my opinion the appropriate and mature way to approach this would be to let him know how you feel about his comments and/or stop watching his show. That would send a better message than storming up to the front gates of American Idol studio’s demanding Constantine’s job. Also, I don’t know of a law that prohibits someone from giving an opinion about a minor. If there is then it would be up to Archie’s parents to do something about it. There are too many people on here that seem to get personally offended over words said to David like they have some sort of ownership over him.

I would hope David has a thicker skin than that and doesn’t need all the people freaking out over this Constantine idiot on his behalf. David seemed to handle the judges critisism maturely and I think he will be just fine.

I liked Constantine for a while just because he brought a rocker image to what had generally been pop for American Idol but he got WAY creepy after just a few weeks and when they started showing the videos before the performances I knew right then he was cocky and has unfortunately gotten worse. He can NOT pull off the camera glare as well as everyone seems to think he can. Does he have nothing better to do than hang out with and then trash the Idols and go to the tapings? Save the seat for someone who actually cares about Idol, not about making yet another appearance.

OOO is right. In any other job, if he had trashed another employee, he would have been at least reprimanded. I’m not saying he needs to be fired but he should at least be told to chill to a degree. Opinions are fine but there is a difference between an opinion, even a heated one, and a personal, malicious attack on someone.

Bringing up Blake is interesting because he made some remarks about Arch and Cook that I didn’t agree with but they certainly weren’t offensive. He just made some unfavorable comments about them as performers.

Constantine made personal remarks and that’s a completely different story. I’d feel uncomfortable with them no matter who they were directed at but I think they’re particularly inappropriate when directed at Arch. He’s just a very sweet kid and Constantine can take his lame shtick and shove it sideways.

The remark about a same-sex cruise was pretty clueless, too. I would guess that David Cook has more gay fans than David Archuleta! Ok, some of you need to get off your gay pride bandwagon already and understand that these remarks ARE in fact offensive! Mainly because it’s quite creepy and predatory to be speculating the sexual orientation of a minor in the first place. David has been asked questions about girls and dating and has simply said that a girlfriend will come later when he finds a girl he can really connect with. He also realizes that he’s not ready to deal with the feelings of a romatic relationship yet as he sees his friends going through all that drama at such a young age. What’s so wrong with all of this? He said he likes to go out on group dates, so it’s not like he’s being completely anti-social with girls. Leave him alone. He’ll date when he’s ready. And I for one, see nothing wrong with a kid of 17 waiting a few years for this. He strikes me as the type of kid who’d want a committed relationship anyway….maybe he wouldn’t be into dating around. That’s how I’ve always been. It takes a smart and mature young man to realize this about himself.

Sometimes it is not what you say but how you say it which changes the meaning entirely. Constantine was not stating fact he was using his words to ridicule a sweet kid. I have to agree with 151, you don’t want people calling you something you are not. If a woman had a big stomach and you walked up to her and said congratulations on your pregnancy, but she wasn’t pregnant you would have offended her. There is nothing wrong or derogatory about being pregnant, it is just the fact you labeled her something she wasn’t. No one wants to be labeled especially if the label is incorrect. When I was 24 and single (though I had dated guys before), my mother thought I was gay because I was a virgin. But I grew up with my parents telling you shouldn’t have sex unless your married and I guess she figured once I became an adult I would stop adhering to her and my Dad’s teachings, but I didn’t. I was offended she called me gay because to me that meant if I wasn’t having sex like most girls my age my own mother thought I must be gay. Why couldn’t I just want to wait from the right guy following my own beliefs, which turned out to be husband who’s my hero?
