This was easily the best performance of the night. Proves his critics wrong that say he can’t sing anything current or have a popular hit song. He should totally do this type of music for his album.

I think I’m a “late bloomer”. I didn’t cry at all when Archie was not announced as the winner but about to when watching this video. I was like: “Goddammit, why?!”
Anyways, the lead singer of One Republic is a songwriter too, isn’t he? I think he wrote a song for Coldplay, no? Anyways, watching the collaboration, I feel that who knows if he writes a song for Archie =) It’ll be awesome. A hit for sure.

Hi Legalos & Mechanic!
Simon Cowell knows how to play this game too. By thrashing Cook and praising David, the Cook fans went into overdrive to vote AND THAT’S OK. So even though David isn’t officially the Idol, he will have so many more opportunities to be himself and be out from the claws of Idol.
I haven’t read anything – not sure I can-I despise so much of the media right now-some of the headlines are like, Cook clobbers Archie for win – hello? AI pimps Cook on Monday; praises Archie on Tuesday night to elevate him as front runner while slamming Cook so as to make it look like Cook came from out of nowhere to beat him. Screw the AI machine.
So here’s my question: In losing the title of American Idol, what did David win?
My answer: His freaking freedom
Happy Happy!

This duet with OneRepublic rocks! David should certainly have something like this on his album. But I want a little of Josh Groban vibe as well, and a christmas album. gosh! so excited. Need an update on record deal.
This is where DA’s future lies IMHO. The One Republic performance was one where he looked and sounded like he was comfortable. If 19 Entertainment was smart, they’d spend the next few months looking for an alt pop/rock band that needs a quality frontman to make it big. At seventeen, the solo career can wait.

I think im not going to deal with media right now.
All I know in my heart is that in the most important night of idol, DA delivered the best that he could. And what a showcase it was.

chessguy99-please don’t sound so ignorant. If you had any clue about David’s talent, then you’d know he has already written many songs, both music and lyrics and certainly doesn’t need to be saddled as part of a band. He will have a solo career plain and simple.
So glad he’s not in the grips of AI. Phew!

Well I was thinking of happy news. Guess it’s too early for that.

This was one of the best performances of the night – and I am 50 years old !
American Idol has to realize that if they want to keep their ratings up,they have to appeal to a wider demographic.
Sure, some of the viewers like the theme nights, but let’s face it , they are not current enough – even for someone my age !
If they want the votes of the 20 something crowd, they have to have more ” themes” like Coldplay , etc. or else more nights that abandon themes altogether and more contestants’ choice nights .
The duet that Carly and Michael Johns did on Ellen was awesome – people shine when they can sing what suits their voice and style of music .
Here, Archey proved that he can be a contemporary artist just as he showed when he sang John Mayer in the audition.
Then they stuck him in the ballads only class – there are ballads and there are ballads – I guess this song with One Republic is a ballad so this is the type of music he needs to sing to sell big numbers on his album and he prob. knows it himself !
Both guys are great – I would have liked to see a tie for the first time and I think both will make it very big – David Archuleta looked so sweet when Cooky won – not jealous or resentful at all and I think Cook would have worn the same expression had it been the other way around – two nice , talented guys , two of the best on AI ever .

Legalos-sorry, but I disagree that David would need to tour with another solo artist. His music will be strong enough on its own without having to share time with anyone else. Besides, once he really starts writing more of his own music, there will be no stopping what he can do.

I stayed off all sites last night. Most of all not to hear people gloating about DC’s win.
First, Congrats to Cookie.
Second, anything I have to say has already been said but I’ll sum it up quick. Archie has such an awesome career ahead of him. I can’t wait for his first CD. And his second and third….lol. Didn’t I hear Ryan say they both got recording contracts? Does that mean that both of them have to do their first album affiliated with Idol or did I misunderstand?

It is over but the shouting as they say. DC is a worthy winner, a gracious one I may say but I don’t comprehend the slight DA received from the show. I don’t know if it is only me feeling sad because DA lost. First, Ryan announced the vote difference of 12M, impressing to the audience it is not even close. Second, he asked who in the crowd is rooting for DC and introduced DC with ZZtop before DC performed. He did not do it with DA, he just announced One Republic, did’nt mention DA will sing with him. I read so much about the producers actions that he leaned toward DC. Perhaps it is only sour grape because my favorite did not win. Hope Rickey won’t stop following DA career and for those naysayers who insists DA won’t sell records, think about Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr. A lot of them. I am looking forward for his CD. Thank you for all the comments. I had fun reading them. This is my first to post.

I think that created a bigger impact for DA actually. Like HE was the surprised star guest. And they gave him a current song to boot! And remember that he was the last to do the duet among the two of them. I thought that was a really good moment for DA.

I’m relieved. I don’t feel sad anymore, it’s ok if he didn’t win. Like I said, it would break my heart if he was sad, but it was alright for him. And I’m just hyped for his album. ^^
A band like this would be good, but BOY BAND (like JB) is totally not.

Since DA is going to sign with 19E, I really really hope they’ll treat him well and help develop him as an artist instead of pushing him into the Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers route – ik. I walked out of the room to fold laundry when they were on last night.
Apologize was awesome. I just thought, where was this contemporary side of David all season? We saw it during the auditions and Hollywood rounds and it reemerged last night. Allowing DA to shine during the finale and the Apologize duet is a good sign that TPTB may actually support DA and help him grow as an artist, so in the end, both parties win. TPTB will make their $$$$$$ and DA will only get better with more experience.
I saw his interview with Fox Utah last night and I was happy to see him so content with the results. Now he can return to the happy kid that loves to sing and hopefully, the big target on his back from the media will disappear and they can start to acknowledge his talents.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: May 22, 2008 09:22 AM
LOS ANGELES, Calif. —
Seventeen-year-old David Archuleta made a major impact on “America Idol” all season long. From his tender cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine” to his sweet rendition of the Robbie Williams standard “Angels,” Archuleta was a heavy vote getter who was always sent to the safety seats, until last night, when America voted and named his 25-year-old competitor, rocker David Cook, the “American Idol.”
“I was already planning on Cook winning,” Archuleta revealed to Access Hollywood last night following the show’s Season 7 finale.
Even after Simon Cowell declared he had knocked out Cook during Tuesday’s broadcast, Archuleta had his doubts.
“I didn’t believe it,” the baby-faced teen said. “I’m just really glad that my performances for that night accomplished what I wanted to do. I wanted to show people that I’m giving it my all for this last final blow.”
Archuleta said it wasn’t Cook’s final performance that sent him on the road to victory, but how he impressed America throughout the entire dramatic season.
“He’s shown how talented he is and how great of a person he is through the past [weeks],” Archuleta said. “It’s not just based on that one week. That’s why it lasts so long — so people can get to know you, and how you handle yourself and how you do things with your music… He just kept going up all the way to the top It’s just been really cool to see it.”
And though he lost on the top slot to Cook, Archuleta said he didn’t mind considering what a genuine guy the 25-year-old is.
“He’s a great guy. It’s been really neat,” Archuleta said. “It’s such an honor to be able to stand next to him. It’s someone I’ve admired so much, someone I’ve looked up to both musically and as a person.”
When Cook was crowned the “American Idol,” he told Archuleta he loved the high schooler like a brother, and Archie as he was affectionately called, had some words for Cook too.
“I just wanted to let him know that I’m so proud of him, that he earned it,” Archuleta shared. “Before we were there in the winners [circle], I said, ‘You know, you’ve earned it. You’ve earned all of this.’ He just so deserved to win.”
And the teen received even more praise from his family and in particular, father Jeff, who sat cheering his son on all season long.
“I think he said, ‘I’m so proud of you.’ My whole family has just been so great,” he said. “They’ve just been awesome.”

Awesome duet.
Archie was AMAZING!!! He sounded so velvety rich and sexy…felt all the emotion in the song.
I guess his message was in the song……
American Idol…. “It’s too late to apologise”
I know throughout the competition, the angels were hoping that David would win IDOL coz it wud just be the icing (frosting) to the cake.
But at the end of the day…imho
THE CAKE WAS SO GOOOOD, WHO NEEDS THE ICING!
David didn’t even need the fancy moves and coolness to win. I will definitely buying his CDs….no matter wat he sings.
GOSH… Rickey, you did us proud. Thanks for everything. A huge part of the experience was being here at Rickey’s every day.. Hope, you post something on Archie every week…I already miss him so much. *sobs*

The “Apologize” duet was just freakin’ awesome! It was definitely the best of the entire night and I’m positive that DJ opened a lot of people’s eyes to the “cool” side of his personality that we fans already knew he had.

Thanks for posting that link to the DN article, Josie. I loved what DC had to say about DJ:
“The respect that I have for David Archuleta is very much past the competition thing,” he said. “He has more talent at his age than I know what to do with at 25. To be able to share the stage with him is an honor for me.”

David A was waaayyy good singing this duet!! David Archuleta is the winner in my book. DC was a class act last night, and congrats to the DC fans. BTW- DA said last night on the local Fox news that he was talking to SEVERAL big wigs last night after the show. They ( the local news) said that DA does not have to go with 19E. He can choose. I hope he does not as they were hell bent on molding him in a pan that does not fit.( just look at this song for an example.) He will no doubt go far……..can’t wait to buy his CD.

from VH1.
LOS ANGELES — David Archuleta has rarely been seen without a giant smile on his face throughout season seven of “American Idol,” but his biggest grin was reserved for after he came in second. Huh?
Backstage at the Nokia Theatre after the “Idol” finale Wednesday night (May 21), the 17-year-old from Murray, Utah, looked as if the weight of the world had been lifted off his shoulders as he excitedly laughed through questions about his “big brother” David Cook and sharing a stage with Bryan Adams.
So where has this bubbly personality been hiding? Who knows? But it was unleashed in this chat:
Q: How does it feel for the season to be over?
A: It’s a big relief. After last night, it’s like, “Oh my gosh!” We’re getting judged after each performance. Now it’s like we get to do what we love to do without being viewed as a competition and judged right after singing. It’s like, “Let me enjoy this for a second!”
Q: The judges seemed to be on your side Tuesday night. Were you thinking you would win?
A: No. I think both Paula and Randy were appreciative of what we did and all our hard work, and Simon, I’m glad he apologized to Cook, because I don’t think anyone realizes how much work we put into this. It’s not like we just learn the song the day before, like, “Oh, I think I’ll sing this.” So much work goes into it. We just want to be able to share what we love to do with everyone, and it’s just a great feeling to be up on that stage.
Q: What was it like to be on “American Idol”?
A: I love singing and I love being able to perform whenever I get the chance. I just love what I do and what this competition has done for me. I just really appreciate it and all the fans who have allowed me to make it this far — I just can’t believe I made it this far! I didn’t think I’d make it past the first round, for Pete’s sake! It feels like such a blessing.
Q: What did you learn from David Cook?
A: Cook, he’s like my big brother. I’ve learned so much. I’ve looked up to him since the beginning of this, and he’s just such a great guy, really humble and down-to-earth. I just feel like, “I can’t believe I’m standing next to him!”

Yes, Josie…all 3 judges gave him a standing O.
OMG OMG OMG
I’m SO LUVIN’ this Apologize duet. It has really hypnotizing undertones.
He sang so well with DLTSGDOM too. GOSH!!
I really hope David will do songs exactly like this.

I have never posted on an Archie topic before (I’m a Cookie), but I have to say that DA gave an amazing performance on this song. It was one of the best AI performances ever.

At the end of the day it just came down to flavors. DA and DC are two different flavors. Just like some people like chocolate ice cream and some like vanilla, it’s just a preference and nobody is wrong. More people may like cookies than pork chops but it doesn’t make pork chops any less delicious.

Kimber, thanks for the kind words. So many of the DC fans have been so nice to us, and we really do appreciate it!

Danielae and kim,
thanks for the link for the mp3 – now I just have to figure out how to make it work : )
I did see that Apologize is the #13 in mp3 downloads on Amazon- it might be #1 by this afternoon after the duet last night with David A.
I m curious as to what #it was before the duet ?
I heard the Jonas Brothers recently on Oprah and wondered what all the hype was about – so average at best ! But then I am not a 12 year old girl or I might think they were great too – who knows ?
Anyway , I think DLTSGDOM and Apologize and the John Mayer audition show that Archie CAN sing anything and will appeal to a wide demographic if he signs with the right label.

Archie did really well on this. While it may seem like an easy song to sing, it is not. Excellent job Archie!

THIS is the kind of album Archie should make!
It was one of the best performances the Idol stage has ever seen AND definitely beat all of Cook’s songs.
Ryan Tedder(lead singer, who also wrote bleeding love) should write David’s album or at least write his single.

The songs on iTunes are apparently the live versions, not studio. Haven’t listened yet, my computer is still acting up. Oh well, I still bought them, anything for Archie!

Oh my gosh, I loved this!!! I’d been hoping that DA would sing this… and the show granted my wish!
is it just me, or did Archey totally OWN Ryan Tedder on his own song!
That was brilliant! One of the best duets of the night and arguably ever on this show.
I agree with album…One Republic’s style is DEFINITELY the type of album David should consider making. He even said on Fox Utah last night that he likes regular bubblegum pop, but he’s more into the authentic pop like John Mayer and Sara Bareilles.
David, please STAY AWAY from the Disney Corporation! LoL~
I see amazing things in Archie’s future.

Guys, seriously, this is THE best duet ever on AI. It is actually in my top 2 faves of DJ’s performances..just BRILLIANT! He completely OWNED it and I wish he could have sang it all himself. What a moment. Wow. So, so good. Something like this must be on his album! It would own the charts. I need more!!!!!

#103, archieangel,
do you think they were giving david a standing o, or was it for one republic? i was shocked to see that too.. all 3 of them gave it a standing o.. i don’t think any other performance last night did, except for george michael’s?
i got the mp3 too.. i am soooo looking forward to hearing it in my car. it really is his anthem song for ai, it’s a screw you song.. he’ll do awesome without the win!!!

For me, this song (Apologize) just completely stole the show! I just have to keep reminding myself he is only 17. How can he be soooooo good, so polished, so perfect? A lot of it is the hard work and training that he has put in, but he has such pure talent and a really, really special gift!!! And, all he wants to do is share it with everyone. He is more than my idol. He is my HERO…forever and always.

Virginia5, I’m sure they were giving the standing O for Archie. Both Paula and Randy stood up after Cook’s performance but not Simon. At least Simon has some shred of decency.
ealbino I loved that thread on the AI Forums, it made me tear up! So much love!

Ryan Tedder is a musical genius, and David Archuleta is a musical phenomenon!

The finale of “American Idol” produced an unexpected winner, but its domination of the night’s Nielsens was entirely expected.
FOX averaged a 17.3 rating/27 share in primetime. That translated to about 30.6 million viewers — up a bit from the 29.5 million who watched the 2007 finale.
The “Idol” finale improved to 19.1/29 at 9 p.m., peaking at 36.34 million viewers in its final half-hour.
Yay..over 36 million people saw our LN!!

I have no doubt that Archie is a hot commodity right now. I am sure everyone wants him on their label. Look at that face and that voice, why wouldn’t you want him. I have been waiting for Pork Chop to do “Apologize” all freakin season and he does it on finale night. I wish he would of done it earlier. It was brilliant. I feel better today about Archie being runner-up. I think he can go mainstream and he can sell better than Clay. He has so much potential. I can’t wait till his first album is release and he would make an incredible X-Mas album too and singing some in Spanish. He is such a humble and talented kid. I just love this kid, can’t wait to see him on tour.
If you can’t access it, the link is in Fanblast comments (#223) under “David Archuleta Will Always Be Our American Idol.” – Ain’t that the truth!!

#12 gossipgirl..I loved that video and you guys go to the one of Paula–even though I truly dislike her and her judging–from tuesday night, its a pretty nice one and she said good things, out of all the shows, I have to say that access hollywood was on Archie’s fanclub and played it very fair,,ET and ET canada were very Cook, but doesn’t matter, DA was the one no one will ever forget!
Thank you to those who gave links to download the mp3. Anyone know where I can download the video? This is something I’d very much like to keep. Incredible, UTTERLY GORGEOUS duet! The best Ive seen on this show. DA proved that he CAN perform, and he CAN do current music. With all his goofy giggly side, he transforms when he gets on stage to sing. He looked like a seasoned pro in this duet. Sauntering onto the stage, HARMONIZING (so hard to do), improvising at the end, like he was a 45 year old superstar! This young man is blessed with incredible grace, I must say. So good. Just wow.
I’m still dealing with the loss, but he just looks SO happy here, like he’s right where he wants to be, so I’ll get past it.
Kudos to David Archuleta! He showed everyone that he’s a superstar in the making.
Oh, and Simon has NEVER stood for any AI contestant, except the winner, after their name was announced as the next AI. Arch got him up OUTTA THAT SEAT!!! Good enough for me.
Ya’ll have been so fun. Much love to you Rickey!! I’m here with you all year ’round…

That would be bada*s if they did a serious collabo.
