Always a painful sight to see a singer struggle through emotions while singing, and tonight was one of those moments when Brooke White attempted to sing herself out of American Idol. I don’t recall anyone not fully getting it together. She even walked away from the audience… in shame? I hope not. At some point these guys have to realize that this show has to end for them and there will only be one winner. There’s a 3 to 1 chance that the ones left in the competition is going to sing a “farewell” song so if you are professional about this whole thing you have to be ready. At any rate, it was expected that Brooke would break down, but wouldn’t it have been nice if she stopped, then asked to start over? It would have summed out her run of American Idol quite nicely. [Rickey being eviiiiil]

Anyway, good luck Brooke White! You still have 15,000 fans on MySpace!

Oh, but Rickey, she DID try to start over, but the band kept playing, and then she shrugged it off and kept going very very self-consciously. It was awesome!

I’ll miss Brooke, even though she did turn into a trainwreck somewhere along the way. With all her crazy balk-talk and stuff, I thought she was very intelligent, talented and interesting. I wish her the best *sniff*.

I really think Syesha should have gone home before Brooke! it was tough watching her trying to sing like that. The only one who was worse was Alaina Whitaker who said she didn’t want to sing at all, but she ended up singing. I felt so bad for David A. who kept moving behind Syesha so the cameras couldn’t see him crying, so cute!

A record deal is a sure thing for Brooke. Among all the Top 8, KLC is the only one that should be worry.

Poor Brooke, she’s such a tender person. I didn’t really imagine her making it much further than 4-5 so this is no shock. Syesha still being there is the shock…ish.

I was a little verklempt myself with Brooke’s elimination. I felt her pain. That said, Brooke had a tremendous run. I’m so glad for her and what she accomplished. Plus, I put my entire 20 points on her for this week’s pool.

This is the first season my favorites (Brooke & Jason, this year) have gone deep into the competition. And I got the bonus of seeing my favorite from AI4 tonight… Constantine!

Ok so i think i missed her singing but she was sooo rude and dramatic!!! WTF? She made it this far and that is ok, Cook tried to console her and she dismissed him.. Ryan had to chase after her… That must’ve been so awkward for the contestants!!! She was sooo weird, i’m glad she’s gone! (even though i wanted syesha to go)

Wow, that was a horrible song to go out on. “Arizona’s fine but it ain’t home”? OUCH.

Well, she had to know her time was up. It was either going to be this week or the next, as she had no hope of outlasting the Davids or even Jason, and Syesha’s been on an incredibly amazing streak. Still, what was up with her moving away from Cookie when he tried to give her a hug? There’s about a million other girls who would kill to be in that position, Brooke! AWKWARD.

And oh my god, was David Cook tearing up AGAIN? That’s what, the fourth time this season? I didn’t even think he liked Brooke that much! This guy’s in the running for the most sensitive rocker on the face of the earth. Not that I’m objecting.

I’ve never seen an exit quite like this 1!

Usually, the parting contestant tries to garner as much face time to the millions viewing & capitalizes on that very last breath of AI stage energy by singing his/her teary (or not) eyes out. I fondly recall SANJAYA’S passionate, emotional yet witty exit song.:) That Brooke would hesitate another start/stop this evening during the sing-out isn’t surprising unfortunately, as she was expected to seriously meltdown. But the extreme was ACTUALLY turning her back to the audience!! Oh my. Never seen that before.

Brooke definitely set a precedent on ths 7th season of AI, the reportedly “most-talented” season, by repeatedly forgetting lyrics, breaking the song twice & then, the ultimate, walking away from the audience! This youg woman lacks the chutzpah required to endure the uncertainty in show business. I suppose her interests are to continue involvement in the biz in 1 way or another.

Imagine if Brooke had been in Syesha’s shoes these past several weeks, toiling in the B3, clearly on the verge of elimination as many weeks as she has been safe?! Whew! I mean, I would have no appetite by now. Each week, you walk the plank, destined to go home. Then, another reprieve! My gawd! SO nerve-wracking!

With the exception of a couple of song gems, I am quite pleased that Neil Diamond week is done!

rmpr10543- I don’t think she was purposely trying to be rude or dramatic…this whole process has just been an emotionally challenging journey for her. I really felt for her. And I actually like her voice and style when she is on her game. Her coffeehouse/tori amos style of music I enjoy and will probably by her album.

I think we’re all being too hard on her…we all know she’s a bit unstable…this goodbye was hard to watch. =(

When she sang without stopping and starting I liked her. When she interrupted the judges I didn’t like her. When she stopped and started on live TV it was annoying. Then she sang and it was good. Then she talked and I wanted her to stop. Jason Castro is elated.

Demisquirrel, please give me an exact time code, since the broadcast is about to begin here.

OK, so I’ve read about a million comments about Brooke’s reaction before watching the video, and I was expecting something a whole lot more dramatic that what I thought it ended up being, just a very human and emotional moment, which is very Brooke, but nothing beyond reason. And yes, even if she knew she had a chance to leave, it doesn’t mean it’s not emotional, people just react differently. I think that her being emotional showed how much she cared about this and what the experience meant for her, which was touching, and it was also a very emotional song to exit with.

She’s very emotional but she was also always there to support and comfort the others when they were emotional. I think she’s a very decent and sensitive person. I’ll probably buy her album when she puts one out.

Brooke is a sweet and classy lady. I bet she’ll do a great job on the talk show circuit next week.

You know what, I decided that after the millionth time in which people describe something about emotion or awkwardness and I watch and I never see it as dramatic as people describe it here.

I think it finally hit me though. I’m Mediterranean, and everything where I’m from is so much more emotional than anything here (we cry a lot, we hug a lot, and then we cry some more), so everything here feels to me kind of muted.

The Simon kiss segment was just on. I laughed my head off even though I knew it was coming.

Not easy for anyone, much less a sensitive soul, to run the months-long AI gauntlet under the harsh light of an entire world’s judgement.

I was glad to have someone that genuinely sweet and down-to-earth on the show. Nice antidote for the slick manipulations and tricks of TPTB.

And I’ve turned away from someone so they wouldn’t see me cry – imagine in front of 30 million people, some waiting to tread on your dreams – or rip them to shreds, or post them on YouTube! krikey.

Brooke gave it her best but her emotions often got the better of an otherwise lovely voice. It was time for her to go if for no other reason than her mental health. Each time she sang I was always afraid she was gonna just snap and start bouncing around on her head like Daffy Duck. You know, sorta like how she acted tonight when she got the boot.

So, did Jason get the most votes tonight? Or did Ryan just call him out first to calm us dreadheads down? Whatever,I’m glad he’s still in.

I would so love an all guy top 3. These guys are all so totally different, it would make for a show of great fun and diversity. Now, all we have to do is get rid of Shyesha – how can we do that? Oh, I know, just continue not voting for her. LOL

jcast – the order of the safe people doesn’t reflect actual votes, they reveal it in a way that helps the drama or serves their cause as much they can, and after Tuesday night it was only fair not to torture Jason through this, which I can actually appreciate. I still believe that despite the argument whether Ryan actually said that Syesha and Brooke were the bottom two (and he didn’t), I believe they were. Mostly because that’s the custom and leaving them both there creates (obviously) the impression that they are indeed the bottom 2, so if they weren’t that’s a major audience misleading, not something TPTB want to do less than 24 hours after what happened Tuesday night. (One would hope. But who knows).

I’m with those who saw her reaction as genuine and true to everything we’ve seen of her. Nothing wrong at all. Sure we all knew she was due (maybe 3 weeks ago or more) but she was there, she was in the thick of that grueling process and it’s no wonder she took it as she did. No surprise, genuine, emotional Brooke. She has annoyed me at times with the back talk but overall I like her.

I cry when they Crown Miss America so I feel Brooke’s pain. No way, No How was Brooke in the least bit “Rude” She was trying her best to go out with some dignity and I know my “crying face” ain’t a pretty site so I don’t blame her at all for turning away from the camera if she couldn’t control her sobs.

I don’t think Brooke’s tears were because she didn’t win either. I think they were genuine tears of overwhelming emotion and exhaustion. Sadness that the “whole” experience is over and that she will miss her friends. I have been on a “reality” TV show before, only 4 days long, and I am guilty of breaking out in sobs when the final scene was shot. It is an overwhelming feeling knowing you are being watched at all times by a camera-it is emotional and exhausting.

I was ready to see Brooke go, so last night was a relief for me. I understand being an emotional person and all, but it’s also important to be a professional. And she broke down and started over way too many times for an “American Idol” imo.

On the other hand, I’m glad to see my girl, Teflon Syesha is still in the running. It will be interesting to see if she makes it another week. I hope so, because I think she’s the most underrated singer in the group. Now if we could just get Chikezie back…

shimrit – re people not as emotional here – true for some, but also that AI brings out the critic in everyone to various degrees, and at the worst some are sharks in a feeding frenzy.

As nainaitokorg said, they criticized Carly for being too happy, now Brooke for being too sad. They criticize DA for being robotic, they criticize Brooke for being too human. They say reality tv is phony, but can’t handle the reality of real emotion. It’s always something.

Some of it is sexist – in a male-dominated world, emotions are frowned on and vilified. How dare women or gay men and especially straight men show emotion! So I’m surprised this brought out Rickey’s inner “evil” as he put it – thought he’d have more empathy. Some will now be glad for an all-male final, so they won’t have to mess with those messy human emotions! And then they’ll call people out for not keeping it real!

Cutting out all the melodramatic bs that people like to create, Brooke was emotional (the nerve!), said it was going to be terrible and thanked everyone, sang the song, got through it, thanked everyone again, and then turned away when the inevitable tears came. (disappointing those who want the full drama of a person’s embarrassment, and are used to the manufactured on-camera emotions of reality shows.)

Some folks (including the press) come to these shows (and these blogs) looking for their pound of flesh, and don’t leave til they get it.

I think I can safely say that…if we do get an all male final and the winner is one of the two Davids…you can bet there will probably be tears!

That’s not laughing at either of them…but they’ve already proven that they are men/boys that have a “sensitive” side and do cry. Both were crying last night…and I think lil’ David was crying so much that he kept moving back behind the others as not to be out in front of the cameras.

in her defense, there is a famous japanese singer (that many of my friends like) that seams to cry in every concert! i also saw a documentary about a american singer that did the same.. (he was a “fonk” singer? something like that)

anyway, i think she is so sensitive that she would not be able to handle the hugs. thats why she just wanted to leave. i dont know.

An interesting thing is happening at the DialIdol website. Syesha, who was predicted to be safe, is not listed in 4th place in the “Accuracy” column. Brooke, however, is shown as finishing 5th. DialIdol usually admits when their predictions are wrong.

Since Ryan didn’t actually say that Syesha and Brooke were the “bottom two”, perhaps DialIdol was right and the Idol producers are just messing with us. Definitely keeps us guessing.

Yeah, I’m quite disappointed with Rickey also…

And those comments saying Brooke moved away from Cook, or she didn’t respect audience when she moved towards the back of the stage… come on, I think those are pretty dumb thing to say. When you are so overwhelmed you can’t even realise what’s happening around you.

And that ‘awkward smile’ of Jason and DA was actually quite inappropriate. Yeah, maybe they didn’t realise it. At first I was disgusted by the way he looked, so happy, and not feeling any empathy. (Compared to Syesha or David Cook). But, I guess it could be because it’s simply awkward moment.

Ann11 – yeah maybe. That moment was just sad for me. But Jason’s face, gah! Oh well. But I do think they didn’t mean it to look that mean. Just that it was so inappropriate, and their faces were captured at wrong time.

I guess I am just rooting for Cook. Hopefully it’s not shocking elimination for him next week (the usual shocker in top 4, e.g. Tamyra Gray, LaToya London, Chris Daughtry).

Whatever, reginaldps. I didn’t start out disliking Brooke. She pretty much sealed her fate imo when she stopped her song the first time. The second time she stopped a song, I was already done with her. Her singing makes me uncomfortable, to listen and to watch her. Her faces, yukkk. And I can’t imagine her singing at an awards show — OKAY, STOP THE MUSIC! I NEED TO START OVER AGAIN! — R U CRAZY????

Personally, I liked Brooke at the beginning of the season. She was actually one of my favorites – she seemed like a really sweet person with a fantastic voice and a variety of instrumental skills. But after a while, everything just got really annoying and really fake, for some reason. She started exaggeratedly pouting like Ramiele, she kept talking back to the judges, she couldn’t accept criticism, and the quality of her performances completely plummeted. Judging from vocals alone, she didn’t deserve to outlast Carly or – and I can’t believe I’m saying this – even KLC.

I think what ticked me off the most, though, was that she kept bringing up how she was going to miss her sister’s wedding. I don’t know if she was just babbling, or if she was actually trying to gain sympathy votes, but it just came off as really cheap and disgusting for me. Especially in comparison to David Cook who, despite being specifically asked by Ryan, consciously avoided bringing up the fact that his brother has cancer on the show or to the press. It’s completely understandable and expected that AI will intermingle with the contestant’s personal lives, but Brooke just came off as unclassy to me. YMMV.

I really liked Brooke, I thought she was sweet. Felt bad that she left, but am happy she made it this far. She seemed really nice unlike some people (read Carly), and I felt she was genuine unlike ramielle.

that’s one of the saddest things ive seen! and hey carly is to nice greengal!…but for reals poor brooke. it needed to happen (last week) but i hate to see her that way! she’s got such a warmth around her…love you brooke!

i’m sad for brooke… i think she’s one of the most genuine person in the contest. having said that, i wish her all the luck. her passion for what she does will take her to places, i’m sure of that.

as for her reaction when she “walked out” – i am in no position to judge her. i’m sure she has her reasons just like jason castro when he appears elated all the time regardless of what is happening around him. we should just keep in mind that WE are all human whether we’re in the competition or not. we all have our own ways in adapting to a certain situation and we are bound to react to them differently.
