Could he be more humble? He looked on the verge of tears, probably from nerves. I on the other hand was past the verge of tears to a full on waterfall by the end of that! I also loved DC, and Jason. The guys crushed the girls tonight, and David Archuleta topped the whole lot!

I think Mimoo gave David good advice. Technique wise David A is better than David C (although they both had their share of sour notes tonight). However, performance wise, I think David C is a bit more experienced/mature. I think David A will win the competition. I think his likability factor is enough to hold off David C no matter how good he does.

It might not have been perfect but I don’t agree with many of those at all. I actually loved the 0:53 “wobbly note”. The falsetto was definitely soft, and probably could have been better, but I was impressed that he could even do it in the first place. The low note I agree, seemed really off to me. But I can’t even distinguish the last “shaky note”.

Yay I was right about the performance quality prediction. I said David’s performance would be amazing and super pretty and it was. And I said that he would do extra extra range today (his previous extra range was on SMM) to the extent he has not shown us before and * drum roll please* HE DID!!!!!! He so did! Knew it!

Now, if only I could take My predictive skills and use them to win some lottery jackpots, lol……….My predictive feelings just appear though and I just know something, so not enough control of them for that, hehe, although it could happen…….did I go off on a tangent a bit? lol I do that sometimes.

K, so the performance was as I predicted. AMAZING! SUPER PRETTY! And new extra RANGE!!!

I don’t think you’re being fair. David A did fine, but honestly, did anybody honestly think he wouldn’t pick an inspirational power ballad on Mariah Carey week? Like Simon, I was completely unsurprised by his song choice. It was either this or “Hero.”

There’s nothing wrong with being predictable, consistency is important- especially with an established fan base. But give credit where it’s due. Rocker David did what nobody would have ever expected and chose to sing one of the girliest, bounciest pop songs ever written. I thought it was a very heartfelt, genuine performance.

Paul- Agreed. There is no need to over examine how a performance makes you ‘Feel’!
There are 2 ways to judge a performance. How it was technically and how it made you feel. The latter is a much more powerful indicator of someone’s star potential and over-all talent. There were really only 2 performances tonight that gave me that ‘tingly feeling’.. That’s something that isn’t easy to analiyze, define, or teach, but David has it in spades!

Emily, if DC’s performance was predictable, David’s was performed in a crystal ball.

That being said, they each bring something to the table. David Cook is more of a performer, while David is more of a technical singer (don’t get me wrong…he brings emotion).

I am on the west coast, but could not stop myself from watching the live blog…and I thought DA was super incredible…I simply loved the performance. From the comments on the live blog and some over on this forum, there seems to be some setup with DC singing mediocre but getting over the top praise for it..oh well, I will watch it live my time here to judge for myself…but east coast folks, no lingering on this site…VOTE VOTE VOTE…DA FTW…cannot believe he did so much in mere 2 mins or less. David A’s performance (especially that WEAK falsetto) was not that amazing. I just didn’t see it as amazing or unique… I’m sorry. It was good, yes, but not amazing. I’m tired of the obviously PIMPING. To have the judges say David A blew Syesha out of the water. That’s NUTS!

David A is technically better than David C. That’s not even an opinion. That’s fact. THAT BEING SAID, David C is better than David A, because he’s not so “TECHNICAL.” There’s feeling behind COOKIE’s performances. David A hasn’t touched my heart strings since Imagine.

Haha, those pants were leather pants, haha, I am on the West Coast, so the quality is not as great watching online before it airs here and i kept thinking they were leather. Go David, how cool. A bunch of you kept wanting leather pants and voila, leather pants it is, positive manifestation in action, haha

I am glad that David is now doing less layering and trying things other than the jeans, good, very good.

I don’t feel the baggy jeans for ai performances at all. And less layers is better too. So, David is taking things up a notch on every level…..performance, vocally and in fashion. Nice, lol. Go, David!

CHESSGUY! Absolutely. Shop Around might not have been the best David A performance in terms of technical ability (even David A said – I didn’t think it was my best), but I LOVED IT BECAUSE IT WAS SO “FREE.” He went out there and SANG THAT SH*T WITHOUT A CARE IN THE WORLD! I’m putting myself in the shoes of a regular viewer who’s not a fan of whoever.

I sort of knew, even though how much I want him to be unpredictable, that he would sing “When You Believe”. I think anyone who puts $1 million for him to sing that song will not have to worry about being a bankrupt.

Mariah Carey gave a very good advice for David A and I know that is something that he would treasure for the rest of his life.

Now, on to his singing. I felt that he nailed every single note perfectly. He has a great control of his voice. When he reached the high note, I wondered if that’s the reason for the tight brown leather pants (Control thyself from going off inner diva actress and into fangirl).

BUT…

Yes, ladies and gentleman, there’s a big BUT. But it has nothing to do with David A.

I have one complaint to make – the background music. It’s louder than David A. It could be David A’s mike. Or it could be that the band is louder than David A.

1. What did you think of the falsetto?
2. How would you judge the song from a technical standpoint (Although it wasn’t a perfect performance, I guess I’m not hearing the pitch problems some ppl are talking about, with all of the runs, etc.)?
3. How would you rank this performance (compared to previous ones)?
3. Did you notice his (perpetual) slouching post-performance, & are you somewhat bothered by it?

Personally, I find it alarming that someone his age is so hunched over – maybe i’ts a side effect of his nervousness, like the lip licking used to be?

To whiteoleander #57:

1. I think he can give Mika a run for his money.
2. I’m not a vocal expert but as a music listener, I feel that David A has a great control of his voice. He nailed every single note perfectly. It’s on pitch, for my ears, that is. He didn’t oversing or overdo with the runs. Some people can go way over with the runs and stuff but he just add the runs where he can add the runs and it doesn’t sound off.
3. I still put “Imagine” up there above the rest. I would love to see him do something different once in a while. And that goes with David C as well. I would love to see David C and David A switch places in terms of music genre. David C, for once, can sing a ballad and David A, for once, can sing a rock song. But currently, I feel both of these guys are very consistent.
4. I never realized his slouching actually. Let’s put it this way. I wouldn’t notice anything wrong/not normal/etc if not for someone else pointing it out. And I slouch too sometimes. I think it’s a habit. Most of the time, if my brain is functioning in its freaky way, it will tell my body to not slouch when sitting, etc. But usually when I’m tired, moody, sad, pissed off, nervous, etc, I will just slouch.

This has been a mystery since AI7 went on to stage the show in kodak theater — that is, there were actually no LIGHTS play/drama everytime our David Archuleta sets foot on stage to perform whereas there are a lot of play of lights for Cook, and Johns, and even Castro?

would you be kind enough to investigate on this. this bothers me a whole lot because i dont think ai7 management is fair with David Archuleta.

Are we doing our level best for David A? Really? My partner and I just finished voting on two cell phones plus our regular land line and a phone line we use as our fax. It was difficult staying off the board for two hours but we stuck to it. It sucked I must tell you. I estimate that we pulled close to 2200 votes tonight. It is for sure a lot more fun chatting on the boards hoping David would win in total votes. We both are not able to figure out how to have both hands occupied redialing a cell and land line each and also then type on a computer keyboard how we might worry and fret about David A. not being number 1 in votes compared to David Cook. We only have two hands, so how do you folks who post and offer a running performance commentary do it during the two hour voting period in your time zone? If David is to win this, shouldn’t we all only dial for our two hour window and focus on nothing else, verses spending time talking about how he is falling behind in votes?

Some folks, IMO, may lack focus and are become addicted to the false drama regarding David A. not winning, but they do not stay off the board for just two hours while the complaints are thrown out on various bogs and boards. Why trash other contestants or complain about judges, lighting and other non-impactful items when we don’t choose to commit just two hours a week just to David’s success. The boards/blogs should be empty right? No?

I love my eFamily, but David really does deserve our ultimate best moving forward. After how he performed tonight for us his fans, the contest should be over. Based of tonight, I am convinced that David A. will not let us down, we may end up letting him down. I know for sure that I am going to try to figure out how I can perform better for David A. next week. How about you?

He gave us the heart sign again tonight, right? Can we not give him our undivided attention with our fingers redialing for just two hours a week? We can all chat about everything else after our two hour voting window has passed…right?

Or they vote with only one hand via cellphone cos they only have one cellphone and the voting through landline is helped by another family member? Or maybe other cellphones in the house are being used as voting by their other family members who are helping them to vote? David has a great voice……BUT. I am not sure that Idol is looking for Josh Groban. I guess I don’t totally buy him as yet. He can sing the heck out of a song, but he isn’t near the performer that David Cook is.

I will say this, each week he is looking less like the winner of the local talent show. If he continues to grow who knows what happens at the final.

great comment Jbeeeb-67. David A. is a good singer but his performance skills are lacking. David Cook hit it out of the park last night. It remains to be seen if AI will let the rocker win or if he’ll go the way of Daughtry. DC has definitely earned his leading position in the competition. Jason Castro needs to be sent back to the coffeehouse/beach party but looks in Hollywood will get you everywhere.
