Hi koko-yes, still in Denver-I leave around midnight and get into Boston at the lovely hour of 5:30 am tomorrow. And my daughter and I have a spectacular time!

OMG….look how much I missed last night. Went to bed early (Tylenol PMs helped) cause I was running on empty, no sleep Fri or Sat, satiating my ODD fix till dawn both nights.

I have 4 hours to keep myself busy while my daughter is at class – so…after ogling the pictures since about 4:30 am, I decided to re-watch the Fox interview way back when-DOES HE HAVE ANY IDEA THE Mad, Mad, fans he has amassed?

I’ve replayed the part where he talks about being able to change people with his music and how “cool” that is-he really doesn’t have any idea how many of us are out here. Just adorablable!

Shelly-I’ve been wondering where you were-I know the feeling of lack of sleep-I’ve been able to give in to my ODD for days because it’s just my daughter and me-so when she falls asleep, I sit at my laptop and rock the ODD! I have 4 hours to keep myself busy while my daughter is at class – so…after ogling the pictures since about 4:30 am, I decided to re-watch the Fox interview way back when-DOES HE HAVE ANY IDEA THE Mad, Mad, fans he has amassed?

I’ve replayed the part where he talks about being able to change people with his music and how “cool” that is-he really doesn’t have any idea how many of us are out here. Just adorablable!

Yes, daisawesome, you can totally see that David has a huge talent, the whole package. He has certainly captured a major piece of my heart. I’m trying to comprehend this amazing phenomenon.

Simply by smiling and being himself, David, through these pictures today, has brought joy to thousands across the planet, and in so doing, has made the world a slightly better place. Seems grandiose, but it’s true. What *power* that is! Oh that we all could have that kind of effect on even a few people every day. And David’s not even aware he’s doing it.

Putting aside the talk of “hotness” and tight jeans, look how vested we are in David’s spirit and well being. How keen are we to the variations of his smile and laugh? To the sparkle or dullness of his eyes? Whether he seems fatigued or in awe? It’s the heart that he wears on his sleeve that has us enthralled.

I suspect that for a lot of us, obsessing over David is the manifestation of hope that an artistic ideal can still exist in this crazy world, that the sheer beauty and power of the human voice can transcend everyday worries and the cruel world outside.

He’s our hopes, our dreams, our love.

hey heavyblow – yes, the IGB was taped yesterday not the performance show, which I assume will be live on Tuesday as usual, along with the elimination show on Thursday.

Also – you too Josie – I’m upset because I might not be able to view this tonight after all. We actually received a feed from LA and it’s on the MTV News avid system but this might not be able to be laid off to digibeta until 7pm (I don’t mean to sound too technical, sorry) , and then made into a DVD for me to view at home. Which means that I probably won’t see it until tomorrow morning here at work in my office (because I love me some Idol, but I ain’t staying here at work til midnight just to see it!). AAAARGH!!!!!!

Since you called me a nugget, I’ll tell you a funny story.

So, I was at a friends house, and we were talking about David Archuleta. Hah, I think I gave him ODD as well! Spread the disease!

Anyway, we were just talking, and my friend mentioned something about the fact that David squints a lot. I agreed, and then I squinted… And my friend said, “Wait, your nose isn’t big enough, flare your nostrils”… So I did, and he told me to look in the mirror and do it. Haha, if I do just the right subtle grin, flare my nostrils a tiny bit, and squint, I look a lot like LN.

Though I have long hair and glasses… Not for long, David has inspired me to cut my hair short ever since I saw the pics of him with longer hair. He looks so much better with short hair, so I figure I will too

Searching on youtube there are 2 videos of him singing Angels, I think one was in 2005 and the other in 2006. So it might be one his favorite songs. It’s one of mine too, but I hope he can change it a little because there’s not a high note at the end maybe he does something in between like Randy said with TLAWR maybe some great runs will sound better than the original.

woohoo i got my david fix last night the Top 10 and Top 9 dvd’s finally came out (the video store now rings me to let me know they are in) I loved both of davids performances my odd seems to make me blind to any faults in them, as I had read a few bad reviews about YTV but still loved it (suppose it helps that i grew up listening to that song). I was a bit sad when i finished watching the dvds seeing as im now in for a long wait for the next one, so it helped tremendously seeing these pictures when i got into work this morning Thanks Rickey.

I want to speculate, I hate to speculate! I’m so nervous!

Remember that someone said this is his “Signature song”. If it’s not Angels, what else would it be?

You know, when I watch the videos of him when he was younger, I get this wierd feeling that he has just been waiting for this experience his whole life – sort of like Randy said “You were born to do exactly what you are doing.” If he had waited even one more year, it wouldn’t have been the same – he would be more self-conscious, less likely to be the same David we saw at the beginning, joyfully and confidently talking about his feelings, radiating that innocence. Some of the adorableness factor would be lost. And we would have lost the chance we are having right now to see him grow up before our eyes. The dual nature of his personality – so innocent, yet so sexy – might have been watered down. Part of the ‘amazement’ factor stems from the fact that he IS only 17 – 16 when he started.

I’m glad he didn’t wait. It’s fate, karma, stars aligning correctly, the hand of God, whatever you want to call it.

I confess I was reluctant to d/l your remix of Heaven because it remains one of my all-time favorite DA performances (it was the one that gave me ODD…I think I was an early carrier….), and I just didn’t want to hear something lame or cheesy. I am also very particular, and I’ve done some music producing in my time (still do to a certain extent), and I was nervous about not liking it…. So, but here’s the deal (a la Randy): Dawg! You got some mad skills. Best part: You know how to be subtle, you know when to lay off. You have a VERY good ear. I might quibble with one or two things (I think the glissando near the end ought to be on “your arms” rather than on “and I found it”) but all in all, it’s nearly freakin’ perfect.

Lucid, please don’t get down on yourself. There are very few people your age that know what they want to do with their lives or have that clear direction you are seeking. For that matter, there are many many older people who don’t know yet what they are doing!

I think Angel’s is much too obvious for tomorrow night. If he’s going to blow us out of the water -as has been noted – it’s going to be with something we’re not anticipating and not something from his bailiwick of songs. I think it’s too risky to re-hash Angels, as beautiful a song as it is.

It’s hard to speculate on what song he might choose as his tastes are quite diverse and all over the map, but I’m going to go with U2’s ONE….especially given his eagerness to perform it. If it is ONE, it’s a very risky choice and comparisons to U2 are inevitable. If he pulls it off in only the way David can, it will dominate conversations for days…weeks…Idol seasons.

Thank you. Sometimes I need to hear someone else say it to me for me to believe it.

I learned a few years ago, while I was producing an electronic genre called Trance (which I still occasionally do for fun), that I should never compare myself with someone else. Though this is easier said then done, you are right that it is an absolutely pointless venture. The only thing that can come of it is that you will always pale in comparison. You’ll just look like a bad rip-off. After all, originality is what makes the people who it is so tempting to emulate so amazing, is it not? Also, to compare yourself with someone you idolize is to make yourself look pathetic in your mind, which is the worst thing that an aspiring musician can do. As you know, I’m sure, self-confidence is a major key to becoming successful in such a field. I’ve yet to discover how far I can take myself with that in mind.

In this respect, I appreciate your kind words to no end. All of you, you guys have no idea what good your praise does to my soul. This is why David thanks people endlessly and tells them, “It means so much to me.” I’m sure he constantly critiques himself, and to hear someone else tell him that he’s doing the right thing reassures him that he hasn’t wasted his life doing what he loves.

I’m very glad you liked my re-master of Heaven. That is one of my very favorite David Archuleta performances, and I just couldn’t resist the temptation of ‘adding my touch’ to it. I can relate to your reluctance to download it; By the way that most amateurs ‘remix’ performances like this it would have been a brutal murder. I’m so glad that you appreciate my hard work.

Subtlety is one of my very favorite elements of music, and I try to refine subtlety every time I orchestrate/compose. To me, the graceful nuances of a song can make it more memorable than obvious elements can. Of course, all things in moderation.

I have somewhat noticed that more artistically creative people tend to be more sensitive to depression, though I never made that correlation as active as you have pointed it out to be. For this reason, I can definitely relate to David for having no real confidence (i.e. him thinking he was going to be eliminated last week). It is the tendencies of such creative people to pick out the flaws of themselves. I am the crowned king of that one, right there. I hate everything about myself, but what am I going to do about it? All I can do is continue doing what I feel is right and hopefully the rest fill fall into place. Your praise helps me heal that habit.

I have been conditionally accepted at University of Advancing Technology, I have been looking into this university for about a year now. I have finally realized that I would be stabbing myself directly in the heart if I went through with this. UAT is about game design and digital art, and while this is one of my mildly invested hobbies, I would be absolutely crushing my musical career. I was planning on ‘doing music on the side’, but I don’t think I could ever let music become a mere hobby.

Rascal, it could be something that he hasn’t performed before. Complexity only said that she “might have” seen him perfom it. She never said she did for sure. She’s vague sometimes, and sometimes she’s actually wrong. So, I don’t know how much to believe her.

I think we’re all jumping the gun too much thinking it’s angels. I just don’t see how it can be that, and live up to the hype that it’ll be THE performance to beat this entire season. It’s a great song, and it’ll more than satisfy his truest fans, but it’s not a knock it out of the park kind of song. Unless he changes it up…

I really think that One would be a better choice. It’s much more contemporary sounding, even though it’s an older song than Angels. It’s also less gooey sounding, so he’ll gain more fans with One than Angels. The only thing that throws me off is that it’s supposedly (if it’s true) a song from the last 10 years. Unless she was referring to mary j. blige’s version.

Honestly, it’ll probably be something nobody has even thought of.

My only hesitation with “ONE” is that it was released in ‘92 and not within the past 10 years as Complexity thought.

I’d love for it to be Mercy Me’s “I Can Only Imagine”. He’s not afraid to “go there” and it’s the perfect forum for it. With that said, former Canadian Idol Kalan Porter performed it in his finale and it didn’t go over well with the judges. They thought the song was ‘boring’ and preachy, but the public loved it.

Hi IdolFan74! To answer your question about voting, I vote the entire 2 hours. Last week I got 683 votes in and the week before about 588. This week I am planning on using Skype in addition to the landline. If we want him to win, it’s crucial that everyone that likes him votes! I honestly think that if David sang ‘One’, it’d be a bad performance (next to his greater ones). I just don’t think his voice deserves that kind of neglect.

I really hope he doesn’t sing I Can Only Imagine, what an awful song! Sorry, I’m not sure why I can’t stand that song, but I just can’t. I dislike that song so much, that if David performed it, I probably wouldn’t play it on repeat like I did with the rest of his performances.

That song seems that it would also be vocal neglect for David’s amazing voice. He needs something that is vocally spectacular.

Virginia5…will you marry me? I really think “One” would be the one from a strategy AND performance standpoint. I have listened to it a lot this week, and there are so many things he could do with it. Also, it’s just so modern, even though it came out in 1992 or 1994 (can’t remember now). On the idea that it’s too old to follow his “friend’s” timeline hint, she could be way off. Personally, I thought the song was well under 10 years old, and I own the album! Not to mention all of the attention and redo’s it’s gotten in the last 3 years (Elliott Yamin and MJB, MJB and U2 at the grammy’s a few years ago). I’m not giving up on it…

Lucid, I have a 13 year old who is very passionate about music, and I have started to lay the foundation for him to intern in the summers in Nashville at one of the major recording studios there when he turns 16. I have some contacts as I was raised in the TV and Radio world, but for the purposes of helping my own son, it is the radio friends that have helped the most. As far as the tv world, my Dad was an engineer for a tv station in Louisiana for 36 years, the Booth engineer for the LSU radio station for 34 years (he loved that job, but he died in the press box at LSU 7 years ago), but through him, I spent alot of my time in the music world.

I had a dream of going to Nashville, but always doubted myself..I hear your passion in your comments and I would not want to see you not pursue what you love. I regret my decisions everyday.

Since Im possibly one of the few Brits here on this board, I can verify that Robbie Williams is a major star here in the U.K. His song ‘Angels’ was written in memory of his deceased grandmother. Robbie refers to her as ‘She’ and his ‘angel’ hence his guardian angel. It is both an uplifting and spiritual song, and lil’ David will do justice to it!!

Although I love U2’s “One” — they were one of the first bands I ever totally obsessed over — I’m worried that the build-up of momentum that is crucial for that song does not transfer well to a 90-second performance. I mean, maybe Elliott pulled it off, but it just seems a crime to insult the power of that song by making it a snippet of the original. That song is all about the build-up and release.

Now, “Angels” on the other hand, could be done quite well in 90 seconds. IMO.

I don’t worry about David one bit. If he goes first, he’ll set the standard for the night. Regardless, I haven’t been disappointed yet. I’m probably one of the few who still enjoyed We Can Work It Out despite the lyric flubs. He’s a winner to me regardless. I don’t want to get too cocky, but from the beginning I’ve thought David’s won this. I haven’t changed my opinion one iota. His fanbase is just too big.

odd_anne: thanks for helping grow David’s fan base in Brazil. I know that he would appreciate it too. Unfortunately in community, no one barely watches American Idol and I feel like the only one who loves David Archuleta. Skype is free to downlaod! It’s like an instant messaging service but you use it to call people! Usually if you’re “calling” someone else with Skype it’s free, and if you call them to a landline with Skype there’s a rate per minute but I don’t think it’s too expensive. I’m assuming to call for AI is free since it’s an 866 number.

Skype is free if you’re communicating computer to computer (ie calling someone else on their computer). A headset/mic is required. If you’re on Skype and call a regular LANline number, there is a charge. (I’ve heard it’s still less inexpensive than LAN calls). I’m afraid I’ve only communicated computer to computer though and so it’s always been free. I’ll have to check out the set up for payment. Simply download Skype from this site. It’s pretty straight forward.

I would like to make a quick couple of comments:

1) I want to be surprised by DA’s choice of song tomorrow night, so if you guys/gals find out what he chose and had the urge to post, please post with “spoiler” so some of us who want to be surprised know to avoid reading. Otherwise, I will have to avoid coming here entirely until afterwards. Thanks a bunch.

2) To the worriers: the technicality of the contest is very simple. For him to win, you just have to go on every website you can find and post positive comments about him. That way, the base support will grow. And when you vote, vote ONLY for him, not for other contestants. To most people, this maybe AI, but to us, it’s just DA, DA, DA…all the way! He has such universal appeal that if you vote for him, the rest will take care of itself. Sure, the judges and producers might want to put their influences in but it’s pointless if the votes are there. See how even Ryan Seacrest was drowned out by the noise from the moss pit during DA’s performance last week? Priceless.

Soooo since we have no clue what David’s singing tomorrow, I already have some tidbits of information for Mariah week next week – some of the people on the Idol Forums are worried about the list of songs (apparently it’s a narrowed down Mariah list, but probably a rumor)

“I thought you all might like to know…

David is very familiar with Mariah’s music. She is an artist that he has enjoyed listening to for a long time. So, when the time comes for him to sing one of her songs, I will be comfortable in the fact that he will be comfortable with the song that he chooses. This will really give him the opportunity to put that ‘David touch’ on it for you and me.

This could be another great performance by him ( after we all vote like crazy for him this week – never take anything for granted ) in the near future.”

archieangel #333, Skype calls to land lines are 2 cents per minute whether or not it is a toll-free number or not. You don’t need a headset or mic to use it for idol since you won’t be talking and the sound will come through the regular computer speakers.

BTW….I think you can use Skype to vote from overseas because they use a U.S. phone number for outgoing calls. Has anyone attempted this?

OMG, you can’t be gone a single day here – you miss everything!! LOL I was in class all day and it took me over an hour to read through this whole thread but I had so much fun doing it… you guys are a riot, I absolutely love you all!!! Honestly though, I totally agree that our (loving!!) obsession with David is so much more than the physical stuff. He absolutely touches my heart and soul when he sings and just makes me feel with every note, word, and laugh that passes through his lips, and every smile that lights up his face. I thank caseydog for writing this:

I signed up to be put on a waitlist for them back in February when my ODD began, but still haven’t heard anything… there is such a demand for them that I’m not sure how good of a chance I have with that But, there is another site that I’m currently trying to register for that has tickets for the AI Finale – which would be absolutely the most amazing thing ever to experience if and when our little porkchop makes it to the Top 2!!! A friend of mine (who would be attending the show with me) used the site before and got to attend the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards about two weeks ago that was held here at UCLA where I go to school… so it sounds like there is hope!!!! I am praying and crossing my fingers because it would just be my dream come true if I could see David live and cheer him on. ITA with Paula that David has a savant quality to him. I’ve thought that for a while. As I’m learning about vocals and singing, and as I listen to him over and over and over, I realize that he is just flat out gifted. He works hard, to be sure. But his INSTINCT and gift is what is amazing about him…then when he is so innocent, sweet, goofy when he’s not singing, it solidifies the feeling that he is savant in some way.

DAVIDisAMAZING – I think this might be because they don’t want a bias this year. Voice wise – it is unbalanced as everyone who’s not tone deaf can quickly realize that David A has the best voice.
But in terms of popularity…. no bias there. Jason Castro and Dave Cook have got massive fan bases as well – so they’re easier to compare to our LN

Guys…I taught sp. ed. I wouldn’t second the savant statement if I thought she meant he has a mental deficit. It’s the “exceptional genius” part!! A 17 year old should not have the musical abilities that Archie does. Maybe the voice, but it’s the skills and the innate way he sings that makes him savant

It was so exciting to hear Simon say David’s still the one to beat!!!

I always get the impression that David doesn’t have a clue how immensely popular he is. He always looks so fearful come results night. As the Idols can access the computers, can he really not comprehend that he’s leading this competition and every young girl in America wants to marry him?! I know that he’s incredibly modest and would never say any differently anyway, but the boy looks almost pained each Wednesday night. When he wins this thing, I can’t wait to see him in interviews to see just how much off all of this mayhem he was grasping.

I think the judges giving their own personal opinion of favs really sucks, especially Simon, because that totally sways opinion. And I also think that by just saying David A. is the one to beat given his teen/grannie fanbase (what are we..chopped liver?), implies that he is just popular and not talented, the same ole’ story being pushed by the rest of the media now, and frankly, I’m getting a little pissed about it.

David A. was told that he sang one of the best vocals ever on the show, that he was a masterclass, was David C. ever ever told these things…NO.

Another is going to the AI board during the 2-hr voting period and seeing how many people are posting about the performance, how cute he looked, who was in the audience, yada, yada, yada, when they should be focusing on dialing. I find myself wasting precious dialing time over there, reminding people they need to VOTE.

Still, I got in 900 calls last week … hardly any busy signals, and I even took the phone into the bathroom. I’m going to try to beat that tomorrow night. I want little LN to be #1 on “Inspirational” week, since he’s our inspiration.

I finally read all of your posts after I got home from work and made dinner for everyone. Haven’t had the chance to comment on David’s HQ photos. After enlarging all the pics, I was totally left speechless. OMG!! Hopefully a new thread will start soon since I now have the time to keep up with it. Shelly, I think they want David in the finale to ensure the viewership. Can you imagine the drop in ratings if he leaves before that? But they want to get the winner they want, and promote his album. Whatever their reasoning is, DCook will sell more album, more marketable, next Daughtry, all that crap.

With regard to the judges’ comments tonight, I realize that AI is about finding the best singer, but I have to admit, I’m influenced by a lot more than just a good voice. In addition to his amazing talent, David is such a great role model for people. He’s refreshingly sweet, humble, respectful….He really is the whole package. I had to go find and bump up that complexity post from before the show, where she said that one of his best friends (a girl) was going to be there. They even ignored that at first, some of them were so distraught. It’s hard, but I think it’s important that we stay over there and try to keep them focused, but it bugs me we have to do that since it slows down our own ability to vote.

Ohhh DAVIDisAMAZING, LOL, now I see, I thought she and I had posted the same things! No it’s only 1 hour tomorrow, IGB is 2 hours or whatever – I think it’s 7:30 to 10. Tuesday’s show is 1 hour as usual and Thursday’s is on at 8 instead of 9.

So imagine…. you think David A. may just be collateral damage in their quest to get DC to the winners circle?

Well I look at it this way, Jason has a huge fanbase, but when Jason goes, I really believe that DA will get more of his fans than DC. And if that happens, DA will have the edge. Plus DC has a much smaller music niche, which should mean less fans.

Afterall, that is the only reason Jordan one last year, because she picked up Melinda’s fans, because Blake was ahead of Jordan in all the poles week after week. Picking up fans can make or break the winner. We need to start courting other contestants fans to our side, seriously!

koko, BTW, I’m idolarchiefan over on the AI Forums. I used to be archieangel and then the darn moderators deleted my account when I posted a YouTube video of L&WR….you’d think I committed a crime or something! I know it’s against the rules but everyone posts videos! Fortunately I think some of the teens on there now are a little more focused, there used to be more young ones on the AI Forums and now I think the fairweather ones disappeared after PromGate.

I would not trust that poll… There are plenty of fans that didn’t hear about the poll, unless a poll of 30 million votes was taken, we really couldn’t trust it.

I think that Jason Castro should seriously leave AI. His voice is rather dreary, and let’s face it, if he didn’t have those dreads he wouldn’t be on the show.

He has been acting very strange, lately. I’m sure it has something to do with the fact that he is a pot-head.

I was just off for a bit and you guys hit 500! Anyway, just wanted to say that I just convinced my sister, who never watch AI, to watch it tomorrow. I didn’t say anything about DA because I want her to find out for herself about his voice. I have been thinking, I mean, I came here originally a few months back, having NEVER posted anything on the net about any reality show, then I came across this DA, this angel of music, THE one with THE voice, and I just felt compelled to sign on here and let out my thoughts and share my feelings, like many of you. I guess the simple reason is: He has given me so much pleasure and joy through his singing that I had to give something back. The the mission, I decided early on, was quite simple: just go on the net and post positive, glowing, deserving comments about him as a sign of gratitude, and at the same time, have a little fun. Boy, am I glad I ever did! His fans are growing weeks by weeks. And now, I realize that, although we love and need all the tweens and grannies we can get for the votes, we also need to stand up and tell people that his fan base encompasses all males, females, young, old, musicians, scientists, healthy, sick, rich, poor, idiots, savants, drunks, whatever! He touches everybody from every country, of every creed, with every colour…DA forever! or at least vote every Tuesday!!!

Ok some reverse psychology here…

I have to believe like we all have said that Simon secretly adores David. Now if Simon were to come right out and say that our David was both his favorite plus the one to beat, there might be a backlash…remember the article a few weeks ago ‘curse of the frontrunner’?

So maybe Simon is playing some mind games with the voters and taking the focus off of our David. Who knows, maybe if they keep pimping DC like they have been lately, the backlash will be upon him soon enough and everyone will come full circle back to our David….this is so crazy, I hate games!!!

I guess I am just so shocked that Simon says his FAVORITE is DC, that I’m having a hard time believing it (or dealing with it!).

There are way too many pot-heads here in America, (I’m the only member of my family who hasn’t tried it) and the fact that Jason smokes weed could even give him a sick and unfair advantage.

Just think, the pot-heads are the kind of people who would sit back, get baked, and hit redial on their phones for two hours laughing about nothing.

Regardless, I think he has a chance of going home next week.

And I honestly don’t think that DA will ever be in the bottom 3.

It’ll be an epic showdown of the Davids! Oh, I’ll be so disappointed if DC wins!

Shelly #554: I was thinking of the exact same thing! You know what, this show would not have taken off like it did if it weren’t for DA. I remembered distinctly the week he sang Imagine. He sang last, and all the guys stank badly that night and DA singlehandedly saved the night.

As for male fans, I think most guys would not admit to liking DA, because I see it like the case with Justin Timberlake. Most guys would never admit to liking JT, but secretly, they do listen to him and like him. I hope the “closet” cases VOTE! and I am glad to see more male fans showing up day by day.
