Here’s the latest Top 20 on iTunes — while searching for iterations of “American Idol”. “Let It Be” and “Imagine” have just been passed by “It’s All Wrong But It’s All Right”, “Smoky Mountain Memories” and “Little Sparrow” — which could only mean one thing: there’s no way the “searches” chart can be a cumulative yearly (unless the songs just sold an amazing number this week). So we’re left with 3 options: weekly, monthly or an unknown number of days. “Travellin’ Thru” and “Here You Come Again” are outselling “Let It Be” and “Imagine” on the daily charts so far this week, but they are not as high as “It’s All Wrong, But It’s All Right”, etc. So I think that if this is indeed a weekly chart, it starts on a Saturday or something, giving the hits from last week a bit more sales numbers. Let’s just go with weekly from now on so the issue is over and done with.
Also, we can explain away that since “Daughtry” and “Jordin Sparks” the albums are still selling well on a weekly basis, the singles from these albums pop up high on the searches. That’s a fudge, but I don’t want to think about it anymore. The weekly charts are now making the most sense amidst all the confusion. (So remember: iMixes daily, Searches weekly)
I can see a pattern happening with these searches: Songs of the week will float up then down week per week, but the “hits” that fans will keep on buying every week will remain in the charts like “Let It Be”, “Imagine”, “Hallelujah” and the David Cook songs.
Archey Angels rejoice! Now that we have better knowledge of what these charts mean, there is a good chance now that “Imagine” may still end up on top at the end of the day if and when iTunes and American Idol reveal the numbers — so keep on buying “Imagine” every week.

Thanks Rickey.. I do believe the charts are updated weekly and this shows what’s selling THIS week…It’s all good…Nice job Archey Angels
Cookie FTW. \o/
And I find it endlessly amusing that DCook is just chillin with 4 songs out of the top 10 spots… it just shows how consistently he gives strong performances from week to week.
Also congrats to all the other idol in that top 20- I’ve purchased at least half of those and all are excellent.
I can’t wait until David Cook gets his OWN music onto the charts. That will be a fine day, indeed…
This is awesome! So…5 out of a total of 7 Cookie songs in the Top 20. Pretty cool!
Cookie FTW because it’s high time a rocker won this thing!!
Pretty cool for Archie, Brooke, and Jason as well.
I agree #3.
thanks Rickey-we Archies’ rejoice daily:)
Thanks Rickey.
I am happy that David C is doing so well on iTunes.
It’s been forever since Imagine, but it still sells. I’m thrilled.
Can we all spare a dollar or 2 today. I am getting ready to send both my sisters and 3 friends SMM, YTV and WCWIO. Of course though, go through Rickey.
Base on the charts it really shows who should be the next American Idol. Go Cook!!!!!
WooHoo!!!!! I’m lovin’ that DC’s music is being so well received
And it’s pretty amazing that so many of his songs are on top, especially when considering that DA fans have been purchasing multiple copies of his recordings (I’ve seen posts of people purchasing 5-10 copies of Imagine) to help his sales, but I haven’t heard of any DC fans doing that…..meaning that our beloved DC’s appeal is unbelievably widespread and growing!!!
Chances are…DCook will be the next American Idol. Now I need to check if I picked him for the pool! *crosses fingers*
does this mean cook’s going to win?
No one knows who will win, although David Foster seems to think it will be Cookie. We can’t say for sure. Things happen. There are 8 more weeks of this stuff.
RE: dearsally, #13:
No.
I cannot emphasize that enough.
Itunes sales DO NOT reflect anywhere near the majority of American Idol’s viewing audience.
Although the itunes charts may be an indicator of who does good studio recordings or who left a good impact from week-to-week, I sincerely hope that fans don’t use these approximated ‘popularity bars’ via itunes to decide and determine the fate of this competition.
Vote for your favorite, folks.
If they do well, don’t take it for granted: vote!
If they do bad, vote your little heart out to save them!
It’s fun to see how the studio recordings are selling, but that should be the extent of their use.
david foster also predicted kat mcphee to win over taylor. so…
Basically, everyone has their favorites. I just happen to be a David Cook fan. That’s all. And, when I hear people like David Foster or Simon Cowell or Randy Jackson say that there is a possibility that he could win, I’m ecstatic. That’s all. I think that’s my right as a fan. I does not express any belief in their abilities as psychics or prophets. We all know that this show is as unpredictable as ever, especially considering the fact that as each contestant is eliminated fans shift loyalties. At this point, it’s pretty much anyone’s game. For all we know, Michael, Brooke, Jason, or Carly could be counted in that winner’s circle. But, for now, I’ll revel in David Cook’s success.
Although I have been a Cook fan for quite awhile, I’m not expecting him to win – regardless of his iTunes sales (partly b/c my fave very seldom wins!). BUT, I do expect him to have a successful post-AI experience and with the success of his iTunes sales, he has pretty much wrapped-up a contract, I would think.
Daisy – I too am a big Cook fan, which makes me think also that since I am such a fan he will not win. However, I have this funny feeling this time the deserving one will win and it will be David Cook. How could someone with such great stage performances and songs that are sung like a pro not win. You know, though, he could go now and end up being the best recording artist out of the group, he IS THAT GOOD…
…and he doesn’t make the goofy statement: “No matter where we end up, we’re all winners!” I think he really wants to win. I’ll do my part to help him get there.
