WTF was up with the band? I could hardly hear them. That’s why he sounded shouty. And I think his voice became a man’s voice in the middle of the song too.
The song choice was disasterous, I’D have loved to hear him sing nothing compares to you instead… I have to agree with simon theres no way someone so young would pick that. But Im almost sure that the studio version would be much better. At least there’d be a band there.

I’ve only seen it twice so far. I’ll have to play it back to check out the band. I have to say, I loved it! I did check the song out first on YouTube because I was unfamiliar with the title.

I thought he did a great job. I’m not getting Simon’s “theme park” feel at all. Although the thought of animated characters dancing about is pretty amusing, they don’t belong here.

David Cook is a great talent, but David Archuleta has more talent and a better connection…hands down.

Yes before any one can tell me I’m full of sour grapes…yes I am, I know that.

My problem is that every freaking week David C. does nothing but rock songs, yes he is good okay, but its nothing ever new. Then the judges keep praising him on his originality. But every version he sings is another rock bands cover, but he always gets the credit for being original. Now they keep telling him he is going to win this….

David A. has been taking risks trying to mix it up, yes it doesn’t always work (like tonight) but from this point I say, just the hell with it, DAVID just keep singing those ballads that you do best every week, your loyal fans won’t desert you!

Ok…after listening to it over several times, he sang it well, it was really just an iffy song choice. The lesson is to NOT pick a song in the future the judges aren’t familiar with (it a nail in the coffin for anyone). We were all worried about that.

It’s amazing how Simon’s negative comments can just suck the air out of everyone performance.

Tons to say about tonight… First off, the song choice, based on popularity, was lacking, but based on the merits of the song, it was brillant. The version that David was covering was the version released by none other than David Foster in 1990. Simon, Randy, and Paula should all feel like idiots for not being familiar with that song. It was a Giant Hit, #1 in 12 countries for artists in almost all genres. It was a huge hit for Heart. The most sucessful version, and the best, by John Farnham. Here is his live performance: which is incredible, and shows its mass appeal and versatility. It has bagpipes and a jammin’ guitar line. Also the extrememly enthusiastic crowd are all “industry” people. It was at ARIAS awards (ARIAS is Australia’s AMA/Grammy posse.

I think the song could grow on me once I listen to it some more. I didn’t love it but he did great with it, considering last minute song change, etc. I will be buying it on iTunes to support him.

My daughter actually offered to help me vote tonight, and she didn’t even see him perform! What a sweetheart. Now that she has gone to bed, I have got both phones and am dialing away until we cannot vote anymore tonight.

I am actually looking forward to Country night next week. There are lots of great country ballads that David would do awesome with, particularly if he does the song he was rumored to have chosen to do tonight before he changed his choice.

It looks like both some David A. and Castro fans have deserted them for David C. (traitors!). I hate fickle, fair-weather fans. Maybe the girl in the audience has really made a lot of the tweens super jealous, maybe that was a bad move on AI part (although maybe intentional!).

Castro has plummeted to very last place on dial idol, David A. is 2nd, and David C. in 1st with almost twice as many votes as the others.

I feel so sick….ya, I know David A. doesn’t have to be in 1st place all the time, will just make his comeback even sweeter, but still….I wanna cry!

Not very good by his or anyone else’s standards. Such an obscure song was never going to resonate with his audience like a major hit would/has. Not only poor song, but mediocre performance. Loved the cracked note toward the end!

On a side note, for the first time all season, Archuleta is NOT, I repeat NOT, the leader on the dialidol predictions. He’s usually 2-3 times above the next contender, but not tonight. Cook is in the pole. Did lil Davey really alienate his major demographic with the possible girlfriend angle? Interesting…

The mp3 on here is really good. I listened numerous times, and the little crack in his voice was the worst part, and that’s not that bad. One held note was flat at first buthe scooped it up to pitch.
I think that one of the components of this song that can really make it awesome it the crowd interaction/participation. The problem with that for David is that the “main” Idol crowd does not have the most diverse music taste. This song is extremely popular in other countries, and well known as a Christian Contemporary rock anthem, but not “pop”.
I have a feeling that this song, with the Itunes release will have a “tidal wave” like suge in popularity. I mean a good song is a good song!

The more I listen to this performance, the more I like it, although I agree it wasn’t his best. Just because he wasn’t as brilliant as in other performances doesn’t mean he wasn’t good. I think part of it is the fact that the song is not familiar and we’ve heard how amazing David can be.

I’m really disappointed in all his supposed “fans” tonight. All the teens on the AI boards were going crazy over his friend instead of voting, so I hope he hasn’t lost too many fans because of that. Just ridiculous. David is talented and deserves to win.

I said half-way through that the band sounded quiet…All I could hear was David and there was no track…

He could snore and I’d love it.

Apparently over at the mothership boards, someone they all think is a friend/family member, confirmed to them that the girl is only a friend and they’re all calming down. This is the problem with getting attached to these contestants. The fanbase…luckily David’s is much more diverse then is given credit, so it’s not so bad.

I hope they mention it on the show tomorrow that this girl is just a friend from school, nothing more. David did say in interviews that most of his close friends are girls, and that he has only 1 or 2 guy friends. ok I’ve listened to it several times now and it is really growing on me. It may have not been a good song choice, but I don’t agree it is a horrible song, in fact I like the song, and only obscure in the US probably. Sorry to have to say that.

First time listening to David, I thought he didn’t sing well, but then I was looking at it from the pov of winning the competition, to put out a performance to impress. However, 2nd time 3rd and so on, the beauty of his voice came through. I don’t care what others say, I can still hear his soul in it despite the few off pitch and his voice cracking in the middle. You can bash him and knock him down all you like, won’t change my mind that he has the most amazing soulful voice ever.

Don’t care about the heartbroken jealous little girls. David may need them to win the competition in terms of votes, but he doesn’t need to win AI to be successful. His world audience is growing.

You know, this kid is just blessed. Even when he doesn’t have the greatest of performance, his VOICE just makes me swoon. He has the most beautiful tone I’ve heard in a long time from a guy, and it’s very unique. It has a breathy quality and when he powers the notes out the tone is just so gorgeous and with a nice subtle vibrato that fills out the sound. I can’t WAIT for his record!

Well Randy liked David A.’s performance, and he was critical of the majority of singers tonight…don’t ya’ll think?

Randy was being quite hard on some of the other contestants actually (not like him), so when he gave David props, I felt relieved. I liked David’s vocals, the studio version should do well. It was just an unfamiliar song (oh why David why?)

Simon’s comments can really sway the votes, amazing how much influence he has. We are going to be hearing about animated theme park characters for a while now from the David A. haters…so get ready for the onslaught.

Simon just keeps coming up with these bizarre phrases that gives all the idiot posters more ammunition for their hate.

I have heard this song before, and he didn’t do a bad job with it actually. I think people are more shocked that they didn’t recognize the song. It was just an average performance for him, which is fine; this is only the Top 10. If he did this in the Top 5 week, then we should worry. I am glad he didn’t wear the jacket like he did the last few weeks. I like his casual look better. 1990 was a terrible year for songs but he did what he could with it.

I know this room is a little Archuleta love-fest, but the one problem I had with your comment is the fact that you accused some of the other fans of being “traitors.”

Last I checked, this was a competition. We’re allowed to change our minds as many times as we like. Just because TPTB, the judges, and even the media had crowned a winner even before the top 24 show doesn’t mean the audiences have to swallow it.

I have my personal favorite contestants, and if they’re good, I’ll vote for them. Hell, I can even justify voting for a contestant on a bad night, if I think they’ve got potential.

But if a listener decides that a singer was overrated or is getting boring, it’s their prerogative to change their mind. On the flip side, outstanding contestants “win over” audiences all the time. Who would have thought Elliot Yamin or Jon Peter Lewis would have gotten as far as they did? It’s not fickleness, it’s forming a well-balanced and objective opinion.

Your comment may have been completely facetious, and if I overreacted then I apologize. But I find it troubling you have a problem with “fair-weather” fans, when in fact, the audience is voting according to the performances tonight. I think it’s pretty safe to say that David C. won this round. I’m personally a Jason fan, but I’m quickly becoming a believer.

I wasn’t articulate enough when I wrote above, but that is what I meant that David needed to “let go.” I think he wanted to get serious, but then gets shy about it (which is the reason he smiles), but in actuality, I could sense that he was holding back — and the song he chose was a serious song. If David (and the suckey music) would have had a more heartfelt arrangement, David would have tore the roof off with that song, especially because of today’s times. So what if Simon would have judged him for singing “another depressing song,” David would have won the American voters (at least he would have won my vote). The way Heart sung the song, sent chills and tears … and I can imagine David doing the same, but he didn’t.
I thought he made a good song choice (I’m sure I’m the only one that feels that way)…

Oh my…finally read through all the posts.

It was NOT a good song choice. I definitely preferred Guy’s version.

HOWEVER, I thought he sang it really well. All the “shouting” comments seem to be from those who just don’t like the kid, and we should just let that be. His glory note in the middle and end was amazing! This was definitely better than We Can Work It Out.

BUT, the song choice did hurt him because no one is familiar with it. That’s it. His vocals were fine. Haters just want to hate. Simon’s comment was partially right. And yes, the other David was the best of the night.

This is a competition and it’s good to see the competition is finally heating up. And I truly feel like this season is on par with Season 5, if not better.

David A. will not be amazing all the time, but he is a damn good singer. No one can take that away from him.

It’s only showing at 10pm tonight, which is in 8h time. Hope your guys’ voting work! It’s no surprise that D-Cook has risen to #1 though. He has wide appeal, and many fans of contestants that have been eliminated have moved over to his side. I predicted him to be the one combating with Baby David in the end anyway.

Song choice… I cannot remember how this song sounds like at all. But considering that Guy Sebastian sang it (I adore him), it must be tough. I shall leave my comments till tonight.

Legalos YES!!- I said it 3 weeks ago – REGARDLESS OF THE AI OUTCOME – DAVID IS HEADED FOR SUPERSTARDOM. And if you don’t think Seacrest purposely did that, think again-IT’S PLANNED.

Music and voice people – MUSIC AND HIS VOICE- that’s what I’m waiting for and he doesn’t need American Idol to do that.

And next week Simon will have something nice to say and he’ll bash Cook – he goes back and forth every, single week. Most of the time, he’s spot on, but then sometimes, he’s laughable.

i stayed up till 3:30 am last night voting for david on vote4idol.com because jason castro was beating him in the total daily votes! and the first thing i did this morning was check on youtube for his performance from last night because i dont live in the states. i was so anxious to see how he did! i thought he was incredible even though i didnt know the song, and i’m mad at ryan for making that completely unnecessary comment about the girl. by doing that and making girls think that she’s his girlfriend, he made david’s vote count go down by so much! so people we canNOT let david drop in the rankings! This site is definitely my one stop AI wrapup/news site, and for good reason. Tonight I checked out other general AI and David A. site posts/articles and realized that the critiques here are the best, good or bad about a contestant. They are actually more than “OMG he is soooooo Hot!!” You can only get so deep with those comments. From what I saw on other sites’ reviews and rankings, David A. is still totally going to sail through this week still with the most votes (although much less than last week). Incidently, as far as votes for David go, his WCWIO debaucle brought in the second highest for him just behind ‘Imagine’ week. That week he recieved more of a % than all the other contestants combined, and approx.88% of the total Utah vote. Crazy!! You can’t deny the #’s when it comes to mass appeal.
Don’t think that this is an excuse not to vote!

I listened to the song again this morning and liked it better than last night, which is a phenomenon that has been holding through all season for me. I always like David A. more on repeat listenings. (Bodes well for his future singing career.) When I turn up the volume, I realize David’s voice is still David’s voice and I only hear the one crack. I’m glad I bought both song and video on iTunes.

I love the fans here… Legolas, I agree 100% with your post #125 (I love just about all of your posts), I can’t believe some “fans” are that fickle that even the possibility of Archie having a girlfriend stopped them from voting tonight. I’m two years older than him, and I admit that even I got a tad bit jealous at Ryan’s silly insinuations LOL – but seriously, come on people!! Anyway, I voted the whole two hours on two different phones – I can’t even remember the last time I did that, if ever, and I’ve watched every season of AI except the first. See what little Archie has done to me

All in all, the song choice was a little random, but definitely understandable since David likes his socially conscious messages. And I admire that!! And honestly, the whole list of 1990s songs looked so unpromising that I think he did the best that he could. After replaying the performance I actually really like what David did with the song and I think he did a great job. He’s more than proven he’s versatile enough to sing just about everything and I actually kind of like that this song was different and pushed him out of his comfort zone a little bit. I can’t wiat to hear the studio version. Plus, that voice can just not be denied. A solid second best of the night for me, in front of David C. who I thought was good but predictable and behind Michael Johns who totally smoked Cook by miles IMHO. That being said, I’m looking forward to just moving on to next week. Very interesting about the Garth Brooks speculation – I guess it is better for Archie to pace himself, as pulling out a brilliant performance every single week would really only spell trouble for him.

Loved the outfit tonight – perfect amount of youthfulness for his age and still stylin’ Can’t wait to see him tomorrow night, I’m sure he’ll be safe although it kills me a little to see that he’s fallen to #2 on DialIdol this week Gotta remember to VOTE, people!! Cinny-I couldn’t agree with you more about this being the best place to hang out – it’s a group of 90% mature fans who appreciate David A’s voice not the “ohmygoshheissoadorableandiwanttomarryhim” piece.

I say, if the tweens want to bail, whatev… I’ve always been a little skeptical about the whole front runner thing, but it does tug at me when he drops down due to little girls being fickle. I certainly wasn’t like that when I was that age – but then, the young kids of today are so indulged.

I listened to it again today and I’m convinced that the band is to blame for 80 percent of this performance. Not only you can’t hear them properly but it was a weak performance on their part. Where’s the electric guitars and drums they offer to David C’s and Micheal Johns’ performances. This is a rock song and David did his best to sing it. Apart from the cracked voice for one second and the one flat note I couldn’t find a fault on his part. If only there’d been good music to back it up. he did a very good job. This is a very very difficult song to sing and it’s live. It cannot get better than this at any concert. Lack of music in the background killed it in my opinion.

Could David have been more blessed with graces? He was so great during the judges’ comments. Said the song was great, but otherwise just took praises and criticisms as they came. And when Simon made the crack about the animated characters, David laughed at the joke along with the crowd.

A couple of things. David Archuleta sang well. I did not know the song at all and I was quite perplexed for his choice but I listened carefully and I really enjoyed his voice. It was because I did not know what to expect that I paid more attention to his voice. Perhaps a bad pitch at the end but I really love his voice. I think Simon was too harsh on him. David Cook butchered Michael Jackson’s song. I did not recognized it at all. He sang well, very well but I did not like his version of the song. I still think David C. has a good chance to win AI but he keeps singing everything in the same style.
Another thing. I would appreciate if you guys could stop spreading rumors on David’s (Archuleta) father. You have no proof at all of what you say. This is tabloid’s stuff and very bad taste. I came across a blog of David’s supporters and I saw this entry:

Wow…what a wonderful article!!! We are good friends with the Archuleta’s. I love the comment that “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”…that is exactly true…I know from personal knowledge! David’s Mom and Dad are wonderful people! Lupe (David’s Mom) spoke to the kids the other day and told them that they don’t have to be famous to be someone…I was so impressed with the way she talked with them…so sincere! She said if you live good lives and do good things…that’s what’s important! Jeff (David’s Dad) called me and he was feeling a little down due some of the “mean” things some tabloids had said. Calm down people. It’s just a bit of a temporary turbulence in David A’s musical heaven. He still sounds good even if he snores.

David C is good at picking alternative versions of great songs. He hasn’t sung any original arrangement done by himself. I mean, you’ve got to rely on other gimmicks when your voice is not that great, so crudo for him for that.

punkybrewster is dead on….the band was too low in the background, that is the only reason David A. sounded shouty. They should have the volumes corrected by now, in WCWIO, it was the reverse the band was too loud.

By the way not a single judge criticized David A.’s voice or his singing last night. So for the nay sayers that said otherwise, they are full of it. Simon only criticized his stage performance not his voice, didn’t like his little booty dance (I did) maybe Simon would rather have him standing still like a statue next time.

My favorite comment on the mothership boards: someone (last night) suggested that they all get voting and David A. would take whoever got in the first 1000 votes to prom. LOL. They’re crazy!

OK, I’ve listened again. Besides being a horrendous song (which I know has been #1 in 12 countries), vocally it’s super tough. You’re jumping pitches all over the place. I think he handled it really well.

I’m sorry, but the band was SOOOO LOW/QUIET! Unbelievably so. I said something to my hubby last night during the performance, and listening to it again, I really believe it made him sound like he was shouting. It was bizarre. I don’t know what happened. I agree with punkybrewster…better support from the band would have equaled a better sell of this song.

He needs to just sit at the piano by himself and sing “The Dance” during country week.

I remember after that comment about someone else picking the song for him, David’s eyes got teary. Whether Simon was right or not, it struck a chord with David. I might be reading in too much, but the chord is about David not being (or able to being) himself, a fun loving kid.

Out of all the pop songs in 1990 (albeit a bad year), why did he sing a song that he didn’t know? Was there *not* any song he had heard and liked before? Why is he singing songs on this highly competitive show that he has to learn just a few days before the performance?

The reason Carly’s “Come Together”, Cook’s “Billie Jean” and Archuleta’s “Imagine” were magic moments was b/c they *know* and *love* these songs/versions beforehand.

And enough with all of this message-y songs from David. He is going to lose his young fans, the ones that are going to take him to the crown.

I think the purpose of Simon’s statement was two-fold:

1) To tell David to get some balls and take control of his song choices

2) To tell his dad to back off (in front of 30 million people) and let David take control of his song choices

Hopefully, we’ll be getting some music from this century soon! David loves pop, alternative, John Mayer-ish music. Once they can pick modern songs, he might assert himself more and sing what he wants.

heavyblow…yes, I saw the teary eyes. David is being pressured clearly to make choices that he probably wouldn’t have made on his own…this is becoming sad actually.

Maybe he needs a more neutral adviser, he is a minor and needs a parent there yes, but maybe the parents (?) or whoever, are just too involved for David’s own good. I know they love him dearly and only have his best interest at heart…but, well, oh who knows?

But I still think Simon was too harsh.

I agree with these last three posts. Think he’s feeling pressure from others and I loved that Simon challenged ‘whoever’ on air. I might add, however, that if David has been raised Mormon, the idea of affecting social change might be very ingrained in his own psyche. Not that it’s bad for him to have a social awareenss, and maybe this is truly him — he seems like a deep thinker to me — but I also hope he gets Simon’s message that he’s young and adorable and his fans want some fun out of him every once in a while, as ‘promised’ by his renditions of “Shop Around” and “Heaven.”

Knowing that David A probably feels he has an excellent shot at winning, because the judges had told him so, he is probably trying his best to impress those that matter. It’s pretty smart, because then if he doesn’t win, David Forster still might opt to work with him. Katharine finished second place, then departed from the label, but I remember David Forster loving McPhee, and now they are working together on a CD. I bet this CD will be far superior than the first, and I LOVED the first.

Totally agree it was a strategic move to pick a Foster song, would love to have been a fly on the wall when the decision was made to change the song last minute on Saturday.

Chatter on the other blogs maintain that his first choice was indeed “The Dance” by Garth Brooks as we all had speculated a few days ago, but since next week is country (Dolly Pardon will mentor) they opted to save it (apparently). Interesting though that the lead up in the pre-performance video alluded to dance, as was the banter between Ryan and David about dances. Almost like last night was supposed to have been ‘The Dance’(just speculation, of course).

One more tid-bit by the inside poster to the idol board that everyone believes is credible, he/she stated that yes David had saved the song for next week and that this upcoming song would blow Imagine away….so maybe next week, who knows David might have an ‘ace’ up his sleeve, we can only hope!

If it’s COUNTRY next week, then I hope (and I hate that I’m saying this) Kristy lasts 1 more week. It would be pointless to have a country week without a country singer. In terms of THE DANCE. I never liked that song. Not even when the DANCE VERSION (by Rockell) came out, and I’m a dance music DJ did I even remotely care for that song. There was one amazing Garth Brooks dance remix… “Right Now” The Jonathan Peters mix. That was HOT.

I agree with most of the posts here, mainly heavyblow and Shelly. I grew up hearing all types of church.y songs since my dad was a minister (deceseased now) and that song little D sang sounded just like that. I’m sure his dad picked it.. and i’m sure he means well.. but DAD ARCHULETA..if you’re reading this.. please let him do some songs appropriate for the teens..like Shop around…I loved that performance. When he sings with the swagger and smile he did with SA he can go right back to the top! I will buy the song although I hated it just to support him and still LOVE LOVE LOVE HIM!

Just to comment on someone who said David was shouty. He wasn’t and I do know what I’m talking about being a singer myself with some professional background. The band was strangely muted, far softer than should be. David was just trying to put more energy into the song at the key change part exactly how the song should be sung, but the band remained the same. Unfortunate since this is a lively song. it could have been a great performance if his vocal were not as shaky and the crowd were familiar with the song.

It’s one of those upbeat song with a subtle social conscious messages meant for huge crowds, so David smiling through the song is not a problem. The upbeat nature belies the message of the song, urging people to take heed, to take action but also to celebrate life and youth. Just look at the lyrics:

hm guess I’m in the minority here for liking that song and thinking David sounded great on that song. Yes he actually sounded great singing an upbeat. Listen to him without the visuals. Has no one noticed that David actually sounded different in every song he sang? He had the same smooth tone in ADIP and LAWR, he had this soaring vocals in Imagine, he sounded oh so romantic and sensual in Heaven, he sounded fun and confident in Shop around, in the WCWO live performance where it actually worked out, he had this amazing tone in his lower register. In YTV, I actually like the soul he injected in that upbeat song. Beautiful. It’s very rare you come across someone like this. He can sing anything, any style. However I am a uber fan, so I am bias. Now I am really curious how he sounds on a rock and roll.

Davids in the green on dial idol, so no chance he should be in bottom 3, I would hate to see AI just throw him in there for ratings though, would they be that cruel to us? Especially after just breaking so many hearts last night, what an emotional roller coaster ride this season has become. So much drama.

Why is everyone so convinced that David did not pick that song? I get Simon’s jab, but it doesn’t mean he’s accurate. I think that song is absolutely 100% “David”!

It’s actually a Christian pop song–right up his alley. There was an article:

where it states, “David has always planned to attend college and serve a church mission — ” and apparently, David’s grandfather had/has a vision of David bringing a Christian message to the world through his music. I would not be surprised if that was one of David’s motivations also.

I’m just exploring the possibilities here.

If this was in fact David’s song choice – and again, I don’t think we should categorically rule out this possibility, one could argue that he could have/should have rebutted Simon’s remark.

He did, if you remember, quickly challenge Simon’s statement that IMAGINE was a sad song. However, I was surprised that David was so quick to come back with “Imagine is a ’sad” song?”. Perhaps he also second guessed his retort and has decided not to dispute with Simon regardless?

I’m just not convinced that this was not David’s pick. When the judges asked about the song and mentioned john Farnham, David said, “He’s awesome.” So either David IS a fan of his or he’s just pretending to be? I can’t see him pretending.

Yes, his voice is still changing. Your voice doesn’t TOTALLY stop doing that occasionally until you’re in your 20’s usually. Though, it will probably stop happening when he’s singing pretty soon. It’s much less frequent when you’re singing, obviously.

I even heard my 30-year-old former-teacher’s voice crack a few times.

Needless to say, I’m shocked at how many comments have been posted! We have a lot of David Archuleta fans here at ricky.org!

I think that what really ruined the performance was not him, but the arrangement. Let’s face it, you can’t modernize that song without it sounding like a Disney pop song. Also, I think they should have raised the entire arrangement by one semitone. David sang this song too low, and though he would have had a huge struggle with the high notes, it would have made the whole thing more spectacular.

The sound engineers really slacked-off in this episode. None of the performances were mixed correctly, have any of them heard of compression?

I’m looking forward to next week. Usually I have a gut feeling, and I can tell if David will do well. It’s too early to say right now (I don’t remember if any of you guys remember me saying that I had a really good feeling about him performing The Long and Winding Road, then he nailed it).

I didn’t have such a great feeling about tonight, I knew it was gonna be rather mediocre. Honestly, I think he’s gonna really step it up next week, especially if he was saving a song choice for next week (that’s the hearsay).

first off; id like to say that i am a teen (14 years old) and i LOVEEE david!! im a HUGE fan and i voted like no tommorow last night..unlike the other immature freaks, i vote moreso because of his UNBELIEVEABLE AMAZING voice than his supperadorablecuteness!!!

and i think that last nights performance was pretty awesome. just because its an unfamiliar song dont mean that he was horrible. hmm..wonder how people were like when rihanna first came out? pretty sure they didnt hate her because she was “new”

Jason – he be doing that polkfolk songs every single week..although he was amazinggg in hallelujah. but remember in the beatles medley in the top 12 when he had his lil solo…ehh..not so great.

Chikieze – this dude is a performer more than an artist..yea he can sing..but as shown last night, uptempo songs are the only songs he can “shine” on.

Kristy – oh dear goodness…she did her best last night but..seriously? she has a nasaly tone..and unlike carrie whos also country singer..she was much more versatile than kristy

and the oh so famous David Cook (though nowhere near as famous as our Archie =]) yea..this dude is a rocker..no doubt; i loved Chris Daughtery in season 5 and was crushed when he was gone. but he did some balads here and there..whilst Cook sings rock rock rock rock rock. he’s pretty good..but if Simon and many other poeple (ahem Blake Lewis)has to critisize Archie doing ballads every week, why dont they do it to Cook? yea, its cause they know if he did a ballad, hed be out the competition in a nanosecond. and i dont really find him original. he does these arrangements from other rockbands. id like to him arrange a song by himself and see how that comes out.

but yea..its just me ranting out my thoughts when i thought he did great last night; even though i dont know the song..its grown on to me and im listening to it right now as i type..

p.s. as im watching the youtube videos; it seems that david does really well when his mom is there in the audience – Shop Around, and Long and Winding Road..and this blonde lady that was with him in the auditions was there when he performed imagine.good luck charms?

Just downloaded it. I LOVE it! The studio version is very powerful.

The further into the competition David goes, I get more excited to hear the studio versions of the songs he selects. It’s like a preview of what is to come after Idol.

Through his performances I find that I enjoy songs I originally did not like (Another Day in Paradise) and have never heard of before (basically his past three performances). Like many others, I will buy whatever type of music David sings. He is just phenomenal in my book.

I agree that the studio version of “You’re The Voice” is AMAZING. I actually think it might be my favorite studio recording of his so far, too – so much passion and feeling, and the vocals are so rich, soulful, and incredible. I can’t wait to put it on my iPod!! I really love that David stood up for himself tonight, too. He is clearly wise beyond his years and that intelligent maturity combined with his sweet innocence is just so irresistible. I loved how incredibly nice and cute he was when he explained why Simon probably didn’t like it – “I really love the song so I probably got a little too carried away” (paraphrasing here ). First of all, he looked too darn sad in that picture that Rickey posted. Awwwwww… *pets him*

Second of all, whether he’s single or not, whether he’s gay or not, I will still be supporting him and wish him all the best. “Fans” who are fans of his for the mere sake of thinking that they could “nail him” after Idol have to get their feet back on the ground. Reality bites your ass. Deal with it, grow up and get a freaking life!

Lastly, vocally, he’s really awesome, as always. But the song choice is unfamiliar thus those viewers who are not in any particular fandom won’t vote for him because they are not familiar with it. So I guess that hurt him but that doesn’t matter now that he’s safe and I know that he would bring it next week. He has a good strategy going on and I hope it works for him later =)

I loved every single David A. segment last night. Yes, I ADORE the way he handles himself. I think he’s showing growth in this way. I’m headed over to iTunes now to check out this amazing studio version.

Although I understand that folks have a problem with his tendency to select songs with a social message, I can’t fault him for it. He and his comrades are entering a world that we, the previous generations, have left to them. Don’t the kids have a right to voice their ideas for change?

I’ve been listening to both versions alternately ever since and loving both, though the studio version is now my fav David’s song. No wonder his vocals were shaky during live, different styles, now that’s versatility!

The last part of the YTV studio version was particularly good, with the back up singers, and that cool bass complimenting David’s voice. I’m so in love with his voice. This song should be playing on airwaves. It’s perfect.

I don’t understand why people think that in the world you can only be a womanizer or gay. Isn’t there anything in between? I know there is because I have known many guys who set some boundaries to who they are and want to be. They might not be in the mainstream but there are many. I actually married one of them.

If I thought I was blown away with anything previously by David A, this studio version has me completely and totally DEAD! In a good way!

Driving to work (a 5 minute drive) I blasted it and got chill unlike anything I’ve experienced in a long time.

I’m so proud of David – his choice of song, how he handled the question of it and his conviction to it.

Love the Archuleta.

I listened to the studio version in my car, turned up loud, too, and love it more on each listen. It may very well be my favorite of David’s so far, also, because I only associate it with him. Definitely agree it could be a hit right now.

Legolas yes I agree, this song could be a hit! This song is amazing and I agree that it’s David’s best studio version to date! LOVE IT!!!! I’m so excited for him and can’t wait to see what else he’s got in store for us this season.

I loved the way he handled himself too, so mature and wise, not defensive at all! Even Simon can’t resist “The Archuleta” LOL!

KH I totally agree with you about the social message part. I personally don’t have a problem with David’s song choices either and I actually applaud him for making these song choices. Shows that he’s thinking not just about himself and that he wants to get a message out to people through his music. Everyday I love him more and more and he never ceases to amaze me!

boy…your instincts were right on about YTV being David’s song choice, confirmed by his statement last night. Looks like David is not going to challenge the judges at all on stage anymore ie: Imagine. Hope we keep getting these back stage insight quotes from him to help clear this sort of stuff up.

Also looks like the girlfriend thing was a plant, no AI damage control, probably to squelch the gay rumors, and the loss in votes was collateral damage that David could easily afford because of his huge fanbase.

Looking forward to next week already, think he will do a great country song, I have a good feeling!

Josie – I thought next week was Dolly Parton week, not country week. Meaning they have to sing something she wrote.. Am I wrong?

and David Cook’s Billie Jean is way ahead of everyone now.. he passed Let it Be by Brooke who had passed Imagine so now David is 3. I was hoping we could make YTV no. 1 to show our support but so far DC is still No. 1.

LOL on the ‘on to next week’ comments, Shelly and Josie. I’m trying hard not to speculate too much about what he does during Dolly Parton (which I hope is general country and not actually DP) week. I spent way too much time thinking about what he might do this week, to the point that it probably affected my opinion of what he did, and I just can’t go there.

I’ve never once been right. And every time I’ve felt a smidge of disappointment, it has been fleeting. I’m going to enjoy my copies of YTV, as well as everything else David has done, and try to focus on my own life for a few days.

1) Ok, I just heard the studio version and I must agree, it was awesome. I had no doubts though that it would be good.

2) But what is this with people wanting to smack the band, and wanting to die happy etc.? It’s not like David A needs any more fan drama! LOL You guys have to live to enjoy him more! (just kidding of course)

3) Not only did David A make Simon smile, I thought it might have brought out…dare I say it…the…inner…child…giggle…in him. HA! Resistance is futile Simon.

We haven’t talked much about David’s other response. When asked by Ryan about Simon’s theme park comment, David’s answer was rather heartening.

“I was having so much fun and maybe I carried on a little too much.”

That was a very astute self-observation. He took the criticism seriously and processed it and able to come to an assessment of his own performance. Maybe that was all it was. His jubilance made it seemed theme park-ie.

There is a video on YouTube of David singing “I Will Always Love You” (a Dolly song that was covered by Whitney, very well covered). He is about 10 years old and it is AMAZING. It starts slow, but then, WOW! Could this be it?

BTW Legoslas, I always enjoy your insight. Thought you might like to know that I caught one of my students listen to an I-Pod in class this morning (I am a law professor), but since YTV was the song playing…I let them off the hook. That’s my shout out to you. Seems the song resonates with the college crowd (an upbeat song with a powerful message just slightly burried in the fun).

Wow, I feel like I’m “home”. How great to find this group of David’s fan. I think last nite’s song is really growing on me. Too bad David can’t get credit for taking a risk and doing something different…and then we see Cook copies someone else and he gets all the “original” comments. It’s too bad because Cook’s doing the same thing every week and David is trying new things each time out. (but enough of the “message” songs for now) Can’t wait for next week!

I loved it yet again!!! I love anything David Archuleta sings!!! I voted for him alott again Tuesday Night!!! I’m so glad he was safe again Wednesday Night!!! I can’t wait to see what he is going to sing Tuesday Night for Country Week!!! Country Week is my favorite week all the time on American Idol Every Year!!! I can’t wait to see what he sings for Idol Gives Back!!! I know it will be awesome!!!
