The performance wasn’t that great but it wasn’t terrible either. It was a weird song choice. Jason still has a pretty voice and is adorable.

Actually listening to the audio without the video Jason’s voice sounds pretty good. You could hear his lovely voice a lot better.

I’ve been voting and am getting through so hopefully that’s good not bad.

Jason could just sit there and laugh and I’d vote for him.

I’ve gotten in a lot of votes so far, and I’ve got about 20 more minutes to go. Lets hope his large online fan base can pull him through a crappy spot in the performance order, and mediocre comments from the judges.

I personally enjoyed it, but i love his voice, so he really can do no wrong with me.

Good job, Jason! You looked great & the contrasting colors of shirt & pants was noticeable & very nice. I like the song selection; what a pretty & gentle melody. I only wish that the band was turned down waaay low for a simplistic singer like Jason because it can seem to suffocate.

I took your tip, Donna & listened to the audio after watching the vid. The sound quality is improved & even more enjoyable! Although I can watch or NOT watch as I LISTEN to Jasons’ performances, this audio experience elevated my pleasure of for this particular recording a notch or 2!:)

Bah…Jason was awful. I wouldnt say this unless it was true, he is one of my favorite contestants. Still it was bad. The problem with the song choice is that it didn’t highlight his vocal range. It was bad and he deserves to be in the bottom 3 for this. Terrible, and this time his natural charm didn’t help.

I am a big fan of Jason, but this was absoutely awful. His chill attitude is definitely a good quality, but maybe he should step it up a bit.

If you’ll listen to the vocals again…he hit every note perfectly, and it fell into the same range vocally as every other song he has done.

I thought his performance was great. It was nice and sweet and he kept real to who he is and what kind of performer he will be.
I loved how Paula pretty much contradicted herself with her comments to him. Be yourself, but don’t be yourself… WTH…..

I don’t know why people think that was bad… I thought his vocals were spot on and very pleasant to hear. He has such a soft smooth voice.

That was not nearly as bad as the judges suggested. I rather liked it & I like the fact that he sings in his comfort zone most weeks. I really don’t want to hear a vocalist like him singing rock or country or whatever-the-hell they think would be “risky” enough.

Wasn’t a bad song but then again it wasn’t a memorable one. Kind of put me to sleep. He definately looks more comfortable behind the guitar though. Hopefully he can change things up a bit.

Were you pissed that Faith Hill didn’t release a hip hop song on her last album? Still mad that Michael Buble wouldn’t think outside the box & do some Swedish death metal at his last live show?

FFS, Jason is singing EXACTLY the kinds of songs he should be & he’s doing them well for the most part.

Happy Birthday Jason!!!

I voted for about an hour straight and I’ve only voted that much before for Constantine. LOL

Jason really has a very pretty voice but this song didn’t show a lot of vocal range that Jason does have. Even Simon said something to the effect that Jason has the potential of winning if he sang as good and with such passion as he did when he sang Hallelujah.

I totally dig Jason, but not without video! Again with the tight pants! Unfortunately I think that most of his performances are kind of interchangeable, but “Thank God” he can bank on people remembering ‘Hallelujah’ and his pants..

Exactly baka, exactly.
Everyone wanted to bag on Amanda as well b/c she never “changed it up” or when she did it didn’t go too well.
She knew who she was, she said that this is what ppl would be getting.

It’s the same thing with Jason. He doesn’t have to change anything up b/c what he’s doing is beautiful. It’s who he is as a performer. He’s not a hardcore rocker, he’s not a rapper, he’s not a power vocalist so doing anything like that is only going to make him look stupid and would probably get him voted off for not doing well.

Bahahaha. Well said. I missed the show, but listening to the audio, I loved it. He picked the perfect song for his voice and style. He stayed true to the mood of the song without making it a karaoke copy.

I don’t understand why Simon was upset that it was too “laid-back.” Sting is a pretty cool guy. And uhm… isn’t the song titled “Fragile”? What would you prefer — that we let Carly get her evil vocal cords on it?

I thought it was a very sexy, very tender song. The Spanish was hot.

I have no desire to buy a “Jason Castro: Disco Fever” album. I don’t want to download Jason Castro featuring Bow Wow and Flo Ridaz. I like him just the way he is– sweet and simple.

jason would be my idol if he got to sing sublime on the show, i highly doubt they would ever let that happen , probally on the tour prehaps , i accually really enjoyed this weeks ver of him, and i d/l every week of his studio ver and he is one of the beter selling artists on itunes for idol every week.

He got lost in the music at times, I found it difficult to pick up his vocal, especially when doing the spanish part at the beginning. I enjoy Jason, but it is getting close to the time for him to go if he doesn’t come up with a bit more.

Very, very clever choice!
He caught me completely off guard.
Boring song choice for sure, but he blew me away with the Spanich part!!! I didn’t know what was going on for a second, and it hit me, HARD.

he just proved that poor song choices don’t really matter.

Eye-candy, but that’s just a cherry on top; I just cannot get over his phrasing and passion.

I admit that I wasn’t his *fan* from the get-go, but what’s so brilliant about him is that he’s not “the bomb”. The more I listen to him, the more I’m drawn. It’s amusing listening to DA and CS, and even DC (sorry DC, you are actually good), but it’s amusing once or twice. With them, once is “wow” but I wouldn’t go for the seconds or thirds because it’s so predictable, with their expected money notes.

With Jason, I want more and more, each time I listen to him. No obvious money notes that FOX and deraned whoever seek, but Jason IS there. Just listen, he’s so good. Plain good. May not be AI quality, but something waaaaay much BETTER. HE IS GOOD. He knows it. We should as well.

The “mosh pit” needs to STFU on quiet, poignant songs. Their incessant clapping was totally out of place and didn’t help the song at all.

as mentioned above, this is what jason does. i agree that it wasn’t on par with hallelujah by any means, but it was chillin’ with his git singing a pretty little song. doing the same thing week after week isn’t inherently boring if it’s good.

Wow, I really didn’t think this song was that bad. I actually really enjoyed it from the beginning and loved the Spanish part, although I will admit I didn’t even notice he was singing in Spanish until he sang the second set of Spanish lyrics (and I’m fluent in Spanish). Overall though I thought Jason did a good job!

okay just re-watched the video (something i whole heartedly recommend) and i blame the missing-of-the-spanish on the fact that a) the band and back up singers were drowning him out and b) he was making some really intense faces during the second round en espanol.

It wasn’t the best performance, and even though he is being true to himself he could have brought a bit more to the song. I think he got that. That said, he’s still my favorite. I do think we might see him in the B3 this week.

Next week he’s going to have to pull something special to affirm he’s really in this. I loved how Simon commented that he could win this show. Jason could do it, but he’s going to have to work harder. He’s coasted for a few weeks now. Time for coasting is up.

JewelsR, I too loved when Simon chided Jason into taking seriously the real potential for him winning & not just placing on the show. Simon has access to the tremendous popularity of this unique, cute, talented guy; the votes, the e-mails, the fangirls that assemble outside for autographs & pics, etc. He’s surely in the Top 3! That’s serious potential!

I missed the show this week and have no idea what the judges thought.
But I loved that performance! Totally fitting song for him and beautifully done. Word to the comment about the clapping – “Fragile” is not a song you clap to and it totally bothered me equally that they were clapping completely out of time with it.
