Blake Lewis said that David Archuleta is boring. And confirms that David Cook “stole” from his friends Doxology.

I love Blake and he is entitled to his opinion. I never thought he would care for Archuleta. A 26/7-y.o. dude wouldn’t likely to dig a 17 y.o. male singer.

Coming from Blake doesn’t surprise me. He is a douchebag for slamming Sanjaya repeatedly before. Blake is one of the biggest flop in AI history. He’s been trying to act “cool” since the competition is over but just seem hysterical. You know what is real boring dude? Your last performance of “too many words” bored me to tears.

He’s probably just jealous because David’s so good! I didn’t watch last season but I wasn’t impressed at all with his performance on AI a few weeks ago.

The truth is I never really liked Blake – sorry Blake fans, I thought some of his performances were good, but it’s like he thinks he’s better than he actually is. I preferred Chris Richardson last year and I was hoping he would stay longer but then of course he didn’t. As for Blake, geez what a stuck-up fagbag – excuse my language – I can’t bear negativity on David’s part especially coming from someone who isn’t even that decent.

Of course Blake would say that, singers that can’t pull off ballads the way that David does, use ‘boring’ as an excuse…Amanda anyone?

It takes more technical skill and vocal control to sing a ballad, your every note is so exposed and you are so much more vulnerable to the audience.

I find it a ‘pleasurable experience’ when a singer rocks my soul the way that David does with his ballads, and to me that is anything but boring.

Calm down, guys. LOL. Who cares! Just another person with an opinion.

People have different priorities when they watch or hear a performer. Blake probably just is more imrpessed w/ ppl who show bigger flourishes/arrangement when they perform.

David A. so far has been more subtle. Besides, he can’t be that objective since he was a contestant. Also, the judges keep saying that this season is the best group so far might have irked him too.

I would have liked it more if Blake would remain cool and not watch AI like he did before. But alas, now he is just like any of us.

Not surprising. For a guy who masterfully concealed his vocal inadequacies with ‘beat box’ gimmickry & clever stage maneuvering (prancing about the stage & positioning the mic to & from his mouth) to criticize another who is a vocally skilled singer reveals sour grapes, for sure.

I didn’t buy Blakes’ claim that he never watched AI prior to auditioning but has now developed an interest in season 7 to the extent of offering an opinion on a contestant. So now he’s a viewer of the show, hunh?

He has stated that he didn’t go on the internet. Puhleeze!

Look, I can understand his bitterness at his very poor & embarrassing album sales (I was 1 who actually believed that he would far outsell Jordin based much on the exuberant crowd response experienced at both Tour concerts I attended for Sanjaya & other Tour appearances that were reported on throughout the summer by avid Fanjayas. The crowd response to Blake was deafening at the concert venues which makes the poor sales stunning! However, the appearance on AI recently clarified things once again. The song that Blake performed was practically unlistenable!:0

Callous statements attributed to Blake demonstrate his lack or regard in terms of longevity in the business. Does he NOT want to have continued success in music either behind the scenes if not in front? He’s stepping on toes of artists who may very well be huge soon as he has publicly & blatantly criticized Sanjaya relentlessly & now, David A!? Although the David A comment was mild, it was still NOT a smart move to burn bridges unless he feels these 2 & he will not cross substantial pathways in their individual musical pursuits.

I agree Apryl that it was not a good move. He’s an artist, not a judge like Simon. Say only nice things and keep the negativity to himself. People are drawn to positive people, not bitchy ones.

I was very critical of him being so “open” with his negative opinions on Sanjaya and other performers (Britney and now Paula).

As aprylette said, it was NOT samrt for Blake to burn bridges with these artists. I’s stupid, most impotantly,from an album sales standpoint. If any reads the posts on here and other sights it’s obvious how even the most mild criticism of David provokes very strong responses from his very “protective” fan base. So much so that an LA Times writer actually printed an apology for criticising David. He said that in 17 years of writing entertainment critiques, he had never received so many angry letters in response to any of his articles. My point is that why would Blake want to turn-off an obviously huge possible fan/album buying group of people. Holy EGO!

Anytime anyone who has a less-than-stellar opinion of the youngster shows up on this site, there are dozens of people lined up to trash that person’s opinion & (at times) their character…that’s just sad & rude. Blake didn’t say David was a bad singer…he just said he found him boring (to which I fully agree).

Please, to all you who fall into the “David’s Defenders” bucket out there…RELAX. People are entitled to their opinion, and David doesn’t need defending from mere opinions.

i hope the archangels now see why the fanjayas got upset when blake talked about sanjaya. it’s not about what he is saying. it’s HOW it is being said. blake should be more wiser with his words. it won’t win him any new fans. and of all the fanbases to piss off, he goes and ticks off the archangels. that’s a HUGE fanbase right there. it was not smart of him to bring up david’s dad if the intervviwer didn’t ask about it. he did that very same thing when he brought up sanjaya’s dad for no reason.

basic PR skills shouldn’t be that hard. from a business point of view, he needs to seriously work on that. and pallaton, going by your post, i hope you can now see why the fanjayas were none to pleased with blake’s comments the last time. there were just a few things that he didn’t need to say.

Personally, I thought Blake was rather boring – more of a Chris Richardson fan, but I knew early on last year, Jordin was going to shine through to the end.

I say to each his own – but whatever the reason, I bristle when I read negative things about David A. (our David is actually my phrase). I become a mother lioness ready to pounce…but then remember I am a grown woman and this young man really doesn’t need my defense:)

When I say something negative about Archuleta (and it’s not often I do), some (okay, 2 really) Archuleta fans come out swinging at me with insults. But since those (okay, 1 really) same people “LOVE” Blake (a white guy with no voice and who stole his main shtick from a hip hop legend), they make excuses for him – even though Blake’s tone when he said ‘boring’ was filled with disgust. He didn’t off the cuff say, “Oh, I find him kinda boring”. He said “but THAT guy is SOOO boring!”

IMO, Archuleta IS boring. I may be a Blake fan, but I made that statement way before he ever said it on whatever radio show that is. And I stand by my opinion. Flame me if you want. Little Archuleta does absolutely nada for me. Continual ballads = indulgent = boring.

I’m a mom and more crazy about David then my 19 yr old daughter, I actually have to hide my obsessiveness from her for fear of freaking her out. But…David’s photos do grace my comp desktop and fridge magnets for sure. They make me smile!

My 23 year old son (a musician), who is amazed with David A. by the way, lovingly teases me…”Gee mom, David’s only 17, good thing your not employed as a school teacher, or we’d be bailing you out of jail right about now”. Help!!!

We really shouldn’t give any credence to the negative gossip about David’s father. This kind of discussion is only hurtful to David.

Clearly….David is a happy, well-round individual, from a loving and stable household.

Blake also said in one of his interviews that David was an amazing vocalist, and for Blake he won the competition after singing “Imagine” which he felt was much better than the version he sang while on the show.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but Blake has said nice things about David A. which no one seems to care about.

As far as the David Cook stuff, I’m sure he’s just looking out for his Seattle friends, and right before that he said he though David was good. And I’m a big David C. fan, and wasn’t offended. Actually, during the Top12 night he said both Davids were among his favorites.

And whether his success is realized in his next venture, behind the scenes in a collaboration or whatever, he should strongly consider zipping his lips especially where fellow alumni are concerned. It’s just not cool! Doesn’t he get the whole ’show bizzie behavior’ where everyone is wonderful, fabulous or at least ok? If not, bite your tongue! I suspected he might be a little business savvy considering he started a band in Seattle & performed for the public. AI wasn’t his introduction to the business. I think he has put everything on the line with this album & is imploding. I hope that’s not too harsh a criticism.

Blake brought David A in his answer negatively when he should have only said the person he likes this season. He doesn’t understand a 17 year old boy can have the most fans on idol that scream like crazy for him, probably because Jordin hardly brought people to do that. Also heard about the bad comments about his last performance how many words on Idol I think he knows by now he doesn’t wow nomore on that stage. Then he picked Chikezie who I believed hardly made the top 10 and had only one great performance, probably ‘cos he and Syesha were the only ones enjoying his song.

I personally don’t care what Blake thinks because I don’t care too much about him. Not everyone is gonna love what WE David fans love about him but he is entitled to his opinion.

Boring to me was Blake’s interpretation of Imagine last year. Some people think Jason is boring and he’s not as vocally talented as little D but I still like Jason. Some think Brooke is boring and that her voice has no range but I still like her..To each his own..I happen to LOVE all and everthing about David Archuleta so like my nieces say… WHATEVA..

He’d have gone further if he had shared more identification with the contestants than dissing them.
Instead he claims little knowledge of the whole set up or identification with it.
Would anyone have heard of Blake without AI?
It’s like when you ask someone “how are you”, you don’t really want to know every single ache, pain and complaint they have. Blake needs to learn some social niceties.
Even the shoutout for Doxology’s version of Eleanor Rigby could have been handled with more finesse.

This is typical Blake. Some call it honesty, but I think it’s obvious that David Archuleta has an incredible voice, and he could at least acknowledge that and then maybe say something about what he thinks David should be doing differently. Blake should know from being judged every week on AI that criticism is only helpful if it’s constructive.

I can’t help but contrast his response with Sanjaya’s when Sanjaya was asked about David Archuleta on Fox & Friends on his last trip to New York. Sanjaya said David was incredibly talented. I think Sanjaya shows much more maturity even though Blake is older in years.

Nothing against David Archeluta, but being really good at singing sappy ballads is not what’s going to win you this competition, you have to be somewhat versatile. For me, I like to see interesting people on this show, not someone who has gotten overhyped since the beginning.

I listened to the interview and I don’t know why Blake is so bitter. He actually pretty much attacked everyone on the show (directly or indirectly) except for Chikezie, whom he likes.

First, he stated that he wasn’t impress with this year’s talent (really?) and that he pretty much knows who the top 4 are going to be and they are not his choices (David A., Jason C., David C., Carly S., or Brooke W., so these are not his choices). Then of course he attacks David A. as being boring; David C. for not giving enough props; Paula for her new song, etc. All this out of a simple, positive question of who is your choice for this year AI. Does he think this is cool or something? I don’t get it? He is a former AI contestant. What have any of these contestants done to him? He can have his opinion, and I can have mine, this was totally classless.

I think David is more versatile than anybody thinks, he does pretty good on ballads but it isn’t true that he sang crazy on hollywood week and received great comments from the judges, I don’t think crazy is a ballad at all. Also heard that he was not supposed to sing ADIP on the third week but his first song choice was rejected and it was uptempo type, so he learned how to play the piano ADIP in few days, according to foxutah they have a section of dedicated to David.

I don’t think he meant it as an insult, more like disappointment that he has such a great voice but is wasting it on boring songs. Even his ballads don’t have a climax, it’s just pretty singing all around. I think Blake just wants some more exciting performances from him. But the criticism was a bit unjust, this season is completely held back by the very strict song selection and very old-fashioned themes. That’s why so far it’s nowhere near as good as last year.

That was a bad move. I mean he has already pissed of Sanjaya’s fanbase. Why on earth would he try to annoy Arch Angel fanbase which is huge. David C also has a large fanbase. What really annoyed me is that he brushed this years contestants off as untalented which is so not true. I mean for the people that think that David A. is boring you have to admit that he can sing and so can most of the other contestants. Blake can express his opinion, and so can I.

First of all, this was totally predictable. It’s easy to see that someone like Blake Lewis–pop beatboxer–wouldn’t like someone like David Archuleta. David has a more sophisticated and developed talent than Blake Lewis does.

There are generally two kinds of music lovers. People who love it for the sound, and people who love it for me melody. Blake is obviously a sound lover. Beats and breaks don’t have a melody. Therefore he’s not very sensitive to good melodies.

However, David Archuleta is amazingly sensitive to melodies. He loves MUSIC, not SOUND. To me, anyone who thinks he’s boring lacks the ability to connect to music through melodies. Blake Lewis’ music would sound ‘tight’, ‘awesome’, fun to dance to. David Archuleta touches souls with the way he carries captivating melodies with his voice.

I completely agree with ben4v, #61. David can do much more than people think.

Overall I think it’s very ignorant and petty that anyone would find David Archuleta to be boring or fake.

Every time Blake opens his mouth in the media, it’s like a Public Relations master class in what NOT to say and do as a public figure.

I’ve lost count of how many times Blake has put his foot in his mouth, alienated people (how own fans, fans of other people, his music peers, his record label, just people in general) and burned every bridge imaginable.

And to all of you going ON and ON about how Blake’s entitled to his own opinion…it’s one thing if you’re shooting the shit with your buddies is QUITE ANOTHER when you’re a public figure talking to the media.

The goal of doing interviews is for people to get to know you in a POSITIVE LIGHT. Hopefully winning people over to the point they’ll want to support you and buy your album or go to your show.

Really, it’s a simple concept. That fact that Blake doesn’t get that is just beyond belief.

I wonder if he every goes back to watch and listen to himself in an interview. Or read them. Maybe if he did he would realize what a douchebag he sounds like.

it bugs me to no end when people come with the “X is entitled to their own opinion” card. well DUH. that’s a given. that’s just your way of not liking when people disagree with it. i’ve seen the opinion card played too many times and wish people would drop that.

all most people are saying is that in his best interest, blake is better off just choosing his words wisely. i’m sure if it was other idols saying things like that about him, his fans would be flaring up too.

I really enjoyed Blake’s version of Imagine, he did a good job. I then watched David’s and once again, his version moved me to tears. Two different styles, both enjoyable. Meanwhile, I LOVE David’s Shop Around. It’s actually my favorite of everything he’s done so far. I wish it was the full version, and am hoping he will release it on his first CD.

I just took a listen to Blake’s Imagine, it was AWFUL in my opinion. He barely pulled-off the little rolls that are in the song, and his vibrato wiggles the pitch flat, bleh. He may be a good pop singer, but he did a horrible job covering Imagine.

I am a strong believer in karma, and I think that Blake has it coming. I always got the impression that he was a liar and a manipulator (I never actually saw him do any of that, don’t quote me). Just a feeling that I get from him.

In my opinion, this is Blake’s last breath of the air of success. He comes off as very boring to me, and the beatboxing turns my face purple every time I hear it (in a bad way).

I think David will try something new next week. He’s too smart not to.

The word BORING: Those of you who use it in regards to anything or anyone should know that those who say they are “bored” or that something is “boring” only reveal the fact that they have the attention span of a two year old. Wait, I take that back ~ I work with two year olds everyday in a MUSIC setting no less, and they have far more sensitivity to music of all styles – NO MATTER THE TEMPO – than a lot of adults. Just thought you might want to be careful in future if you want to sound mature (I’m talking to you Blake!)The tempo of a song has nothing to do with how good or bad it is. FYI. (You can find the word ‘tempo’ in the dictionary!)

I always laughed when my kids told me they were bored (knew it was time to turn off the video games) and I laugh when someone says David A (or anyone) is boring. But I realize it isn’t your fault – you haven’t been trained to appreciate someone who sings with passion, connects with the people he is singing with, has a grasp of musical phrasing and dynamics and is flawlessly in tune. Not to mention his voice quality alone moves people to tears. And I’m not being sarcastic friends. Really, it is a matter of what you are used to and what you’ve been taught to appreciate.

The upside of this is that most of America appreciates the gift that his voice is!! So, go ahead and be bored! It’s much more fun to be on the David bandwagon! I sort of have the feeling that David has even more amazing performances up his sleeve than we’ve even seen!

David is definitely on my computer, don’t have fridge magnets yet, but I am seriously considering getting a cut-out of one of his insanely cute smiles and hanging it from my rear-view mirror. I don’t see Blake’s face anywhere near there.

A singer can be flawless and perfectly in tune and still be boring to some. His voice and way of singing, while undoubtedly better than most of the contestants, is just not my type. That’s all there is to it. You do not have to be telling anybody they have the attention span of a two year old just because they don’t agree with the majority. There’s no need to be condescending the way you are. And while I may not have had a formal music training myself, I’ve been married to an active classical musician for 19 years and have been around music all my life. Between my husband and my kids, I’ve made quite a number of trips to Carnegie Hall and do have an appreciation for Bach & Mozart.

Last year on American Idol, I used to think Blake was pretty good. But now I realize the only thing he had going for him was his beatboxing. His vocals arent even that great at all. When I saw HIS version of Imagine, it confirmed it for me. It was REALLY boring, and he sounded like HE was bored to death singing it. There was no passion or emotion in his voice and it was just like….

So if he calls David A. boring, he is so very wrong. Just because David sings beautiful ballads doesnt mean that he is boring. David chooses ballads most of the time because they showcase the amazing voice he has. He also does sing upbeat songs. (If you havent forgotten Shop Around. That was one of my favorite performances for him.)

It’s not that Blake isnt entitled to an opinion either. He is. It’s just that the way he said it and that HE brought it up. I didnt even know Blake had a CD coming out until now. But I will know when David’s CD will come out. But anyways, he shouldnt be making negative comments about other singers. He should be concentrating on his CD because the sales AREN’T LOOKING TOO GOOD.

But yeah, it doesn’t matter what he says. David Archuleta will always be remembered to me as one of the best contestants on American Idol with a pure, beautiful voice, one that moves people to tears. Not like Blake, who just makes his songs interesting by beatboxing.

there’s no problem w/ ppl thinking that david a. is “boring”.

i just find the comment to be a bit premature and unfair. we’ve only seen 5 performances when he will have at least 10 more songs to sing in this show. so far, he sang 3 ballads and 2 upbeat songs. he would have sung more upbeat songs, but during his “another day in paradise” week, his original chosen song (an upbeat/rock tempo tune) was pulled at the last minute b/c they couldn’t clear the rights.

i’m saying that i don’t think we’ve seen his best performance yet.

his gnarl barkley’s version of “crazy” got amazing feedback during hollywood week, but that song wasn’t clear so they couldn’t show it.

I will only reiterate what others have said: Blake has a right to his opinion, but he shows a lack of professionalism (and smarts) by sharing it openly in a public venue.

Because Blake and David (and every Idol) share the AI-viewer potential fan pool, their stated opinions CAN affect buyer sentiment. Blake tossed the gauntlet with his unprovoked criticism, and I fear that it is Blake who will come out the loser. I liked him last season. Voted for him, although not passionately. Now my thoughts of him are more negative and I’ll be disinclined to support his career.

Anyone has the right to be excited or bored by a performer. Amanda handled her thoughts with so much more class: said that ballads are boring with no pointed fingers. Then the AI voting majority decided for themselves which performances bored THEM.

You know, this is kinda random, but I was just watching a local pop concert which featured this upcoming singer from Taiwan. And he reminded me of Baby David. The singer, Xiao Jing Teng, has awesome vocal abilities, but he is SO SHY! For 1, Blake is 26 and he likes upbeat music (but he does love slower music too don’t get me wrong) and saying that David is a boring isn’t a shocker to me. 2, Blake is allowed to have his own opinion. Regarding Gnarls Barkleys’ Crazy, I understand during Hollywood week that Jason Castro, David A & Asia’h performed that song & all did very well. What I have also read (it’s in 1 of the Jason threads) & unfortunately I don’t have a link to is that Jasons’ version was quite outstanding to the point that Nigel/AI wanted to air his Hollywood audition, but were unable to obtain release rights by all parties of the song. Hence, the audience never got to see Jason perform in Hollywood but did get to see David A & Asia’h perform different songs.

Every week I hear the same thing from David Cook. He has been on rock basically from his audition. Talk about creativity. Even Chikezie is more versatile than him, and I am not a fan of Chikezie. I would have been mor impressed if David Cook sang “Hello” as a ballad rather than turning it into a rock. Until he proves otherwise, I’d say he can only sing one genre. I know he can sing ballads (he has the voice)and I’d not be surprised if he does it well, just as I am sure D Archuleta is not limited to ballads. Get your facts correct people. This is getting annoying. And be fair onn all contestants when you want to criticise.

Ah, Blake, here we go again.
For the Blakers claiming that Blake is just being Blake, well that’s precisely the problem. Is he unkind? or just a tactless jerk with zero business sense? his tin ear is tuned out to good PR, that’s for sure, as Aprylette and Snuffles stated so well.
I am neutral on David Archuleta. I’ve seen a few of his performances, and he comes across as an earnest fella who puts effort into his songs, with nuance and emotion and tunefulness. Blake had, um, beatboxing. Lucid, great post about music versus sound. To me, Blake was closer to noise. His version of Imagine sticks out as a pleasant memory in my mind, mainly because it was a relief after the beatboxing schtick—simple and unadorned. But pleasant doesn’t hold a candle to the beautiful version that young David did.

Sure, Blake’s entitled to his opinion, and he obviously considers himself a rising star. So why is he burning his bridges along the way? Good way to get nowhere fast if you ask me. To those stating “it’s just an opinion,” it’s more than that when a “celeb” is speaking for public consumption. Every word counts and is up for scrutiny, and Blake does not hold up well here.

Plus it’s just unsporting. Idol alums have been in the trenches together, so why badmouth colleagues? It’s just as bad as SnarlyCarly’s remark against Sanjaya. Of course she’s entitled to her opinion, but it’s poor sportsmanship on her part and Blake’s to be personally negative in public. Blake is especially classless for doing this in response to an interview.

I think that just because David A. does an amazing job on ballads doesnt mean that he is boring. i mean he did do upbeat songs. But ppl somehow don’t remember those as well as his ballads. That’s understandable because his ballads are the most memorable and where he shows his wonderful voice. But dont get me wrong, his upbeat performances were good too( Shop Around)

Blake doesnt really have anything except his beatboxing. It’s like without that, he’s not interesting at all.

David Archulete is like a breath of fresh air to this competition. He doesn’t have to play an instrument or amaze us with his stage performing. His voice ALONE amazes us.

I’m just sort of ho-hum about Archuleta, however, David Cook is a different story ( I love, love, LOVE him!!!) For Shelly and the other couple of posters that felt the need to say that Cook can’t do anything but rock, get on YouTube and check out David Cook’s high school performance of Singing in the Rain from 2001. There’s nothing rock about it (i.e. no guitar, he dances, etc.) and he does a GREAT job. He’s a lot more versatile/talented than you are giving him credit for….

Wasn’t that the second biggest ballad of all time (behind Boys II Men’s End of the Road)??? He certainly didn’t put a rock spin on it, and he played it just like it was recorded. Once in awhile, I just feel like rambling on about David A. I can’t control it, as many of you can understand. Resistance is futile. Here’s why I think David A is “awesome”:

1) The voice – foremost and most important: pure tone, perfect pitch, full of raw emotions and yearning and it’s a voice that soothes, heals, uplifts and carries you to musical heaven. It’s shown to quiet a crying baby (check out Youtube), make little girls giggle uncontrollably (there’s a serious condition called ODD that is pandemic among the pre-pubescent girls, to which there is no cure), and cause mature adults to throw caution to the wind and sign up to websites like these to bestow their love to this angel of music!
2) The looks – that angelic face, those expressive eyes, that joyous smile, those full beautiful lips, that hair…need I say more?
3) The attitude – he’s been so respectful of the judges and his competitors, and so well-mannered in receiving praises as well as criticisms, that it’s impossible to hate him. When he screwed up, he offered no excuses, and just laughed it off and moved on. He hasn’t badmouthed anyone. In fact, of all the things I have read about him, the only thing I found that he said he didn’t like was his grandmother’s fish soup! He said it might be healthy and all, but “not worth it” to eat (as it doesn’t taste good). J
4) His passion – the great desire to connect with his audience is only surpassed by the great passion he has for music and singing. He might be short and little, but he’s got a HUGE HEART that’s worth itself in gold.
5) His intelligence – yes, have you heard from a more well-spoken contestant on this show, ever? He’s quite articulate for someone so young. The only times he fumbled were when he received (deserved) praises from the judges, as during the Shop Around performance, “it’s odd that…that came out of them”.
6) The talent – I mean, it does seem a bit unfair to the others that there is so much talent in one person, doesn’t it?
7) His character – humble, genuine, non-threatening, full of life and joy, etc.

It’s no wonder he’s popular, as there are so many things about him that people from all over the world can see, feel, and love…and I am so happy to be one of them.

Re: the Chicago Sun Times and Justin’s comments. Overall, Justin gave a fair assessment of both the pros and cons of leading, IMO.

The article me think about underdogs. I tend to root for the underdog in many situations, and here’s an odd thought: to me, David A. works as both underdog and frontrunner. His skill level is obviously enormous, but he’s also smaller than every other guy on the show, younger, more vulnerable. He sticks out like a sore thumb because he’s so HIMSELF: sweet, shy, sensitive. (Note that Jason Castro, who also has a huge fanbase, fits many of these descriptions, but he’s a smidge older and you get a sense that he’s experienced more of life.) With David, you believe he’s just emerging into the big, wide world; a baby with a talent larger than he knows.

How could I not support that?

Strengths:David A. – this is one of my favourite songs from the Beatles. This song has such a beautiful lyric and melody and I thought that the sensitive and poignant lyrics and soaring melody line complimented your prodigious vocal instrument and genuine personality.

This was an absolutely stellar performance. The feeling and the emotion behind your singing were palpable. It was just one of those spellbinding musical moments that are truly special and I just marvelled at the depth and maturity of your talent.

As in many previous performances, you treated the listeners to a vocal showcase that emphasized everything that is so important and correct in solid technical skills. The forward momentum, the beautiful and heartfelt phrasing, sustained vocal quality on the pure vowels, the open and expressive facial features – need I say more?

Yes, one more thing, the soulful bending of the melodic line was creatively superb and not overdone. You bring such discipline and intelligence to this competition, given your young age, and you are a fighter. I love this!

I had goose bumps and, as Simon said, it was a“Masterclass” – so there you go!

This thread is Fabulous! DAISAWESOME – you rock! I agree 100%.

A few observations while watching “Long and Winding” for the 100th time and waiting for Tuesday to come:

1. Look at Carly’s husband and friends when everyone is cheering – they look worried and are grudgingly clapping or not at all.

2. Look at Paula’s complete look of adoration for David as she’s waiting for her turn to comment!

3. Look at Jeff Archuleta – Say what you want about David’s dad, true or not, but he gave David his KILLER SMILE! Yes, it’s the same – little dimply thing and all. I like the guy just for that.

4. Finally, I’ve come to the realization that I don’t think we’ve even scratched the surface of what this kid can do. The best is yet to come!

Even though I am a responsible, successful adult with a great life, watching David sing is still way more fun than most of the other things I could do with my day!

Also, older women don’t worry about your ‘questionable” feelings for David. There is something innately and extremely attractive about a young man who is revealing a great character and is not a whining, self-centered, rebel. You are more attracted to the man they can become than the young boy they are currently. I’ve had to analyze this with my son’s friends and my daughters boyfriends over the years. Combine that with a heavenly voice and the feelings are a no-brainer.

Blake, from all David A fans: “How many words does it take to say ‘we’re through! We’re through with you!’ O-oooo-ooo!

I personally think they have a very loving and close relationship, the fact that David is so happy and well adjusted attests to that. Media was just looking to start a little controversy, by blowing and typical father/son disagreement into gossip.

Looking forward to the week where singers get to return to their hometowns, then we will get to see David interacting with his family and get a better picture of his home life.

….and thanks for giving us older gals a reprieve from our guilty adoration (and questionable feelings) of our little David. Were just looking ahead to the awesome MAN we know he will grow be in our visions!!!

As an accomplished woman at 27 with a good life with much going on, I really became a bit scared with my weird obsession with idol, david in particular this year. felt like a loser to be honest. i’ve never felt old before but remembering how a teenage girl feels about her idol (mine was jordan knight back when i was about 11-12) made me blush all over again.

I just watched shop around for my david fix. He really shined when he did that.. His smile and little dance moves are just so friggen adorable I hope he does another song like that at some point. I also love when he bends his knees to get the high notes out…and the respectful way he listens to the judges then shakes his head in amazement when they compliment him. His Dad also looked so proud and he cried when he finished imagine. I hope those scary dad stories were false! I can’t wait till tomorrow.. OMGGGGGGGGG

I would like to comment on your point #5…I love to watch David talk, almost as much as I love his singing. I’ve watched every interview and all the pre-song clips, post song judging/dialogue, etc. many, many times.

He’s very cute when he stumbles. During one interview he had trouble getting out the phrase “give it all you’ve got” and later he kept using the word “thankful” to describe his feelings toward the Utah residents for their support. Each time, he acknowledged his stumbling and it was very endearing.

I have that Shop Around video engraved in my brain. I believe David’s words when talking to Ryan were:

“I’m really awed that they…that that came out of them.”

I’m starting to freak myself out about all this detail I’m storing up. I actually hear his (speaking) voice in my head sometimes. It just replays involuntarily…in a good way!

I understand what you are saying — I don’t want to see David bashed by non-fans or judges, but let’s not decide that he HAS to mix it up every single week when few others on the show are doing the same. Simon is usually accurate in his assessments, IMO, and won’t put down a great performance. Only non-fans will, and they’ll do so anyway. Besides, I’ve been more and more impressed with David’s talent and abilities. He will choose the 1990 song he can perform the best, or the one that will challenge him the most, or the one he feels will reach the crowd the best, based on what is available and how he feels about performing it. I trust his choices.

Right on…I have already imagined David A. standing on the big stage at the Nokia Theater with confetti falling all over him, and tears streaming down his face as the crowed roars….what an emotionally satisfying conclusion that will be for all of us, I believe it is a vision that will come true.

dazdnconfuzd: thanks for the correction. You’re right, it might have been “awed” as opposed to “odd”. Regardless, that “Shop Around” performance, which I saw like thousands of times, was when I became a (rabid) David A fan! I also think that was the beginning of the audience screaming for him as he acknowledged them with “I love it man…especially with the audience here. Wow!”, then waved his arm and said “yeah” to them, and mentioned that they helped him get pumped. That was the most carefree reaction from him yet.

ealbino: “Shop Around” is one performance that I watch again when I am in severe withdrawal from ODD. It’s a fierce and fearless performance and my most favorite of all his performances as he came out for the first time in front of a real audience and was having a time of his (young) life. His passion/enthusiasm/joy was infectious!
Please remember to vote for him tonight!!!! Let’s also make this thread count reach 200 people. I love it that fans of OTHER contestants have to come to David A’s thread to talk about their favorites, as there is not much going on in other contestants’ threads!

Legolas (love your name by the way as Legolas was one of my favorite characters from LOTR), don’t worry…even if David A sings another slow song, it’d be great. Don’t worry about how others will react. His voice will trump them and he will make new fans out of it. The criticism of him only singing slow songs is pretty silly and I would just ignore it. He can sing the phonebook to me and it’ll still be great.

wow blake is so FULL OF HIMSELF. he’s like dissing all the contestants this year (except chikezie). and to call david BORING?! WTF i was bored with all of blakes performances last year. he doesn’t have a good voice, good looks, or a good personality! so he should just back off and stop saying bad things about the people who actually DO have all those things!

Yooooooo…… This is Blake. I usually never got on these things, but want to clear up some things for you all. first. Sanjaya…. I have nothing against this boy, but on the show I was frustrated at his progression. After being on Tour and finding out hes actually a pretty cool kid changed my opinion. Would I have put him on the show, maybe not. Still love the lil dude.

David, David A. and MR. Eze… Now that I have seen all the new season… as of this week. new light has shined. I found out that David Cook did my Boys Doxologys version of Eleanor Rigby and was stoked, but then he gave them no props. Later to find out he did, but the cut it off the show. He and Eze E and my favorites thus far. Just my Alumni Opinion. Kind of rooting for a dude to win it this year. Although Brooke and Carly are holding it down. David A. is as well, when I called him boring it was just out of the fact that I want this kid to do well. He needs to get out of his box. He clearly has mass talent and a killer voice. I just want to see him out of his comfort zone and to get away from his dad for a minute. His dad is nice, I can just see the pressure. Thats all. I’m not a hater. I’m a huge fan of this year. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Its just really SURREAL watching a show you have never seen, that you were on. if anyone of you at anytime want to contact me. Blake,

There’s a way to offer constructive criticism and deliver an honest review with kindness and tact. This is an area in which YOU need to improve. You’ll get a lot farther up the ladder as a performer if people actually like you. For that to happen, you need to come off as likeable. And you’re not coming off that way at the moment. Please give some serious thought to hiring an experienced PR person who can coach you on presenting yourself well.

Thanks for your response Blake although I think it’s futile. Even if you apologized it wouldn’t be enough for the very obsessed DA fans. I know you have thick skin and don’t need my reassurance but remember the above posts are all opinions and they are not true fans of yours. You are not ‘losing’ fans, as I dont’ think these people were your fans to begin with.

I do, however, think that you should exercise some judgement when it comes to comments in the public. Just remember that everything is ‘edited’ (maybe not so in this case) and can go against you even though it is not exactly what you meant or thought.

BTW, I’m a thirty something Idol fan with children and have had my fair share of crushes, but To those 2 or 3 moms who are lusting for David A and ‘waiting’ for him to turn 18 and who have fridge magnets, etc…wow…nassssty!! And you DO already look like pervs whether or not you are holding back and being suttle with your comments. Ever heard of TMI?

Blake Blake Blake… if that really is him! This season’s talent group is the best ever and you wouldn’t make it as far. You might make it to the top 10 but not top 2. Even those already voted off where better than most of last season’s group. I’m sorry to say all this. This year we don’t have a Sanjaya or a Haley for sure. The top 20 this year could have easily been broken into 2 top 10 and better than most prior years. Sorry… you are a fan of mine but talent is talent.

Ya know what? A lot of you people maybe need to stop talking for just a minute. A lot of us are here trying to defend Blake cauz he can say 1 little thing, and you guys take it the wrong way or take it WAAAY too far. The man is saying that David is good and all, but the song choices really aren’t what he should be choosing, and he wants the kid to do good and all, but I think he means that his dad is sorta…err…helping him to these song choices? I don’t think Blake meant for him to be boring as in ZzZzZzZz…

Blake, I have a lot of respect for you for: 1, actually having to scroll down all the way to the bottom without being super upset with all the comments that are here. 2, for being so nice to apologize and try to clear things out. However, I really think that you can say sorry a million times, and people are so fricken obsessed over this 17 year old kid that they don’t really care what the heck you have to say.

I can see Sanjaya being a real pestering kid, but i guess you’d have to put up with him. Everyone has their opinions. Its not bad if Blake doesnt like Sanjaya. He just has to put up with him in front of the press or else little chat blogs like these will spread negative rumors everywhere about him.

Let’s review here.
Archuleta has a wide vocal range Blake on the other hand has a robotic beat boxing voice. I wasn’t even going for Archuleta this year I was a Cook fan but Archuleta compared to Blake is a million times better.

Blake shouldn’t have mouthed off because even if you think something–and you are a public figure–you have to be diplomatic. Better to say nothing if you don’t want to alientate fans or potential fans.

I know that all of you here are enamoured with Archuleta, who seems like a really nice kid and he has a beautiful voice–the fact is most people did find his performances–as good as the vocals were–boring. I agree with Blake but he still should have just said “both Davids are great…” just like Jordin Sparks did and many other former contestants did when asked about the final battle of the Davids. You have to know how the game is played…
