All I know is 3 of my faves are in the Tour – Jason, Chikezie & David Cook – & I am PUMPED!! Amanda didn’t make it, but not to worry. I think we’ll hear from her sooner rather than later.

I wonder whether Kristy can explain what it’s like to have 9 lives. Hmmmm

Hey all! I have been reading the site daily since AI4 and I love it and all of you! I love you too Rickey!!!!!! My boss loves you too!

All I can say is Kristy Lee Cook better thank her lucky stars that she is easy on the eyes because she has the talent that is equivalent to a can of spam…no I don’t like her. The only song she did justice to…sort of….was You’re No Good…and then again…she really didn’t.

A lot of really good people went home on account of her. She needs to go. I just can’t believe my nurse went home instead of her. Next week…I’m praying. Oh and btw…Carly scares the beejeepers out of me. I don’t like her either.

Idol could not hide Amanda anymore. She is one dimensional and all she can do is ROCK. Idol kept her out of the spotlight when singing with the group. I believe she didn’t sing at all and just moved her lips so she wouldn’t ruin the song. She did have a small solo. But again she can’t sing along with anyone else. She had to go!!!!

Don’t get me wrong. I looove David Archuleta. I think he’s in my top 3 (and I’m 99% sure he’s going to win). But after I heard those stories about his so-called stage dad, it worries me….A LOT. I get all irritated when they show his Dad on TV (Sidenote: Can someone remove his cap? You are in a talent show, being watched by millions of Americans! Be presentable enough!)

I have all these thoughts that David will be a “puppet” of the conaivance of his dad and AI producers so that they can make gazillion of $$$$ out of him.

Five years from now, I predict that E! will produce an E! True Hollywood Story of David Archuleta… where David reveals how he was manipulated by the music industry and how his Dad wrongly managed his career… kinda like what happened to early child stars with their manipulative parents (e.g. Macaulay Culkin and his dad).

Oh well, this is a popularity contest / money-making machine, isn’t it?

Kristy appears to be the new….hold on, I have to look up her name:)…Haley Scarnato from season 6. It must be kind of hard to be the one everyone things should have gone home. She had that quilty reaction when Ryan told her she was safe. Amanda had to tell her to go sit down.

Carly in the bottom 3? I don’t believe her presence there was based on sheer votes when she possesses a positively splendid voice! I like her vocals when she maintains control on the ‘high’ notes, which is seldom, I agree. But even though her connection with the audience is questionable at times, I find myself curious as to how she will perform her selection each week. She cannot possibly win this competition but should place at 6th or 5th position.

An open letter to Kristy Lee Cook:

Dear Kristy Lee,
Much to our surprise, you are still alive after being in the bottom three for two weeks now. Everyone’s expecting you to go home, but for some strange (or divine) reason, you have managed to keep your head above water. I’m pretty much sure that you know that you have don’t even have a remote chance of becoming the next American Idol. So, if you want to stay another two to three weeks, here’s my advice to you:

1. Sing “Amazing Grace” for the next two weeks, since everyone remembered you with that song during Hollywood Round. Try changing it up a little bit by doing an uptempo country song, much like how you massacred “8 days a week”…so that the judges won’t call you ‘boring’.

2. Try the proven “Haley Scarnato tactic” by wearing little or skimpy clothes. In that way, guys will notice you even more and they will dial your number to vote… In a week’s time, you’ll have a following that will match even David Archuleta’s tween fanbase. Your pretty face and hot bod makes a perfect combination.

3. Give an excuse that you are not feeling well or that you were sick during rehearsals. You’ll get a lot of pity votes from America and they will forgive you, even if you chose the wrong song or you sounded pitchy/out of tune.

Amanda had personality, she could work the stage. She may not have had the best voice, far from it, but she was something to watch. Now we’re left with blandness–pure blandness. Watch ! I predict the ratings will go down.

I think Kristy should have gone home, too, but I hate to see everyone blame her for other people going home. It’s not her fault any more than it was Sanjaya’s fault last year. She just goes out and performs–she’s not responsible for how people vote or what TPTB do. She’s just trying to live her dream like the rest of them. I hope she doesn’t get a lot of haters bashing on her like Sanjaya did last year (and they STILL bash him to this day–get a life, people). It’s so unfair to pile all of that on a person.

Papa Johns is one funny guy. I loved how he described his acting on the Ford video as being like Susan Lucci. You all remember that Kristy Lee or any of the other contestants has no more control over their staying than any of you do as individuals, don’t you?

She’s just a kid caught up in trying to fulfill her dreams like the rest of them. If she wants to stay in she has to keep believing in her ability to compete. Same for all of them.

This is a reality show. The producers are the ones who make the decisions in the end about who stays or goes. Your votes count to an extent but so does their market research. They balance the excitement of the show with a given set of contestants with the effect the elimination of any particular contestant will have on the show.

They don’t kick out the worst or the least popular. They kick out the one who adds the least to the possible story line.

Last year they underestimated the negative impact of Sanjaya leaving the show had. They did everything they could to involve him after that.

I don’t think there is anyone this year who is such a lightning rod for vitriol as Sanjaya was last year. I’ll bet if you ask just about anyone who went home last week, this week (or next week, a few days after it happens) most will not be able to tell you.

I really don’t know what to say. I’m saddened at how much hate can be generated and spread so readily through the Internet with people taking for gospel what this person said or that article said or what a popular hate website said without any critical thinking or questioning. I can’t understand people hating people for their heritage or because their face scrunches up when showing emotion. Oh wait, it’s not emotion, the person “leaves some people cold.” I can somewhat understand the reasoning that someone who’s had a chance in an industry has an advantage or may be taking the place of someone who hasn’t had the break, but most of the contestants have had breaks and experience since early childhood. The $2.2 million figure gets bantered around from the Wall Street Journal article but how was it spent, how much actually went to the singer and how much of it may have been salaries for the people who did a pitiful job at marketing and trying to turn a young woman into something she was not. I don’t get how it can feel okay for some people to hate a contestant as much or more than they promote their favorites. Hate breeds hate, and it’s not pretty. In my opinion, Carly has a beautiful and powerful voice, but music is a matter of taste. I can definitely understand not liking someone’s singing voice, but to hate a person you don’t even know? Why?

while amanda had her moments she can only sing one style which is bad for idol , i don’t know how much success she’ll get after the show though how many non top 10 contestants have really done anything? not many if any at all. i don’t get why people are hating kristy this much though , i think she has a decent voice but i think shes been under preforming the past few weeks , if it was country week she would blow every out of the water. i love how simon called the songs mediocre when the singers this year have been mediocre at best. but they really should not have done a 2nd week of Beatles, what is the song list for next weeks show? from what i heard they pick 3 songs and the producers pick the song for them i think jason castro should have sang , yesterday instead of seyshea.

aprylette, Glad you got a laugh out my oh so clever word trickery. That doesn’t make me aword nerd though. I don’t really think the crew cares about the group #. Of course BibleBrooke sure gave it her all though. Chris from last season was on Reality Remix and commented on how close last year’s group was and still is. I checked out a couple #’s from that group and although still annoying, they sounded like a choral “Master-Class” compared to this lot. AI7 contestants R init2winit. ALLFORONE, and, pass the beer nuts!

I agree with Abercrombie02. This season of AI has one of the weakest groups of singers yet. AI is really starting to show its age. The ball starting rolling downhill with Taylor Hicks winning AI. This show needs a complete revamp soon.

I was thinking about this group of idol contestants last week & this evening & how their group performances in each show seems devoid of any real dedication other than to sing well for ‘thine own self’. Yeah, they are definitely in this for individual gain & probably won’t EVER claim to be a tight bunch when reflecting back on this season.

Just how many cliques are there? How does ANY of the contestants feel about David A or even Jason? What does Carly think of herself as a member of this singing competition? Does Michael feel kinda like a papaJohn? And so on, and so on..

Not that this means anything in the scheme of life but I would have sent Carly home based on her shirt from Tuesday night’s performance. I’m sorry but what was that??? Like big red doilies or roses planted in a semi-circle on her chest? Nooooo. With those boring pants, yet. Noooooo! And the flabbier arms and the tatoo.. Noooooooooo. She looked awful and it distracts from the singing voice.

Jason: sweet but his lack of stage presence spells I Am Not Ready for This.

Same with Brooke. She has a nice singing voice but she admitted after FOLLOW THE SUN to the judges that she is not a performer. Um, kind of bad move since American Idol winners are supposed to be Out There and Ready to Perform for Audiences….

Chikeze: Nice guy but doesn’t ring star to me. Waiting for his personality to make him stand out. Because he does seem nice. But … we need more.

Michael Johns: turns me off. Thinks he’s too cute for you. And he’s not. He’s unnatural in his projected sensualness. Nooo! His DAY IN THE LIFE was a horror show.

Syesha: I thought she pulled the Haley Scarnato/Katharine McPhee Act Tues night by wearing a revealing dress that was way over the top cut down to there for the prime time crowd. I did not like her voice on YESTERDAY but her DRESS-ter-day saved her. I think.

One last word about Amanda: If she was such a one-style wonder, hello, why did the 3 Stooges pick her to be in the Top 24,12, etc? Don’t answer that. I know. I know. Because this show picks “types” to be easy cast-off targets. It’s alllllll filler until the pre-determined top contestants. It couldn’t be more obvious after 5 years of this show!

Did anyone catch Chicken Little Kevin Covais in the audience tonight? I think that was him. I think he’s been in the AI audience/contestant spotlight cirle way past his traditional 15 minutes of American Idol fame!

I agree with a lot of what Izzy had to say above. I actually think this is David Cook’s to lose. The realize they lost a star with Daughtrey and they don’t want to repeat it with DLC. Archuletta just doesn’t say star to me. How do you pigeonhole him…Josh Groban, Michael Buble? He actually reminds me in many ways of Clay Aiken, this nice kid that you want to root for, but don’t see how he will make it big.

I think Carly has perhaps the most star potential and by far the best stage presence at this point but I think the fact she is NOT American and the tats work against her.

My personal favorite is Brooke, but she needs to come up with some stage presence. I see her as similar to folks like Carole King, Sarah McLachlan, Carly Simon…someone who can sing and entertain you with their voice, but not a showman.

Kevin Covais was sitting next to JPL.

I liked Amanda, but I get why she went home. She had the worst performance. Just like David Hernandez had the worst performance the week before. It’s not really a tough equation (though I fail to add things up in time for my pool picks each week).

I’m not a Kristy fan, but she has a really beautiful, clear voice. She is trying way to hard when she picks out and arranges songs. But, for me, her voice is always beautiful when she sings them.

People do well on this show when they take chances that work out. Bo singing acapella. Blake beat boxing to Bon Jovi. And on and on. But to have successes like that, you have to take chances. And that’s all Kristy is doing. She just isn’t taking very good chances. Like someone up above said, she’s just following her dreams like everyone else on the show. That shouldn’t inspire hate. It should earn our respect. Bottom line is that she’s doing something the rest of us don’t have the cajones to do.

Group number: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz those songs have to be the most boring Beatles songs! They were a complete complete bore!!

Carly: She’s the best female singer on the show and should never be in the bottom 3…at least not until the very end.

Cook: He is, I think< the best singer performing right now on the show. He’s been very consistent no matter what Simon said last week. I wasn’t a fan but am becoming a big fan of his.

David: He’s a great singer and can become great and well-known no matter what anyone says. Comparing him to Groban or Buble…well, they’re big!

Clay Aiken: he’s one of the most successful Idol and he didn’t win. While the guy that beat him, lost his recording contract. So Aiken has made it very big.

I’m very surprised to see Carly in the bottom 3 but not shocked because I think it’s mainly younger girls that do the voting (thousands times) and she’s not going to be popular among them. Kristy is good but not on the level as Carly or the rest of the group…I’m guessing the country music fans are voting for her. I think Amanda would have been more fun for the Idol Tour. Amanda, I knew, wouldn’t last because she doesn’t smile on the stage and her voice is hard to take every week until you’re hard-core rock fan. I think she does have a great voice.

This year, Idol should have the Top12 go on tour because they are all great this year. It’s hard to say (like last year with most of them sucking) who really should be the winner because they all have their bad weeks and their great weeks. They are the best group since season 5.

On to the next elimination….

And David A.’s giggle is a bit annoying, but 17 y.o. Jordin was even worse. She could never form a thought that would last longer than 5 seconds. But they’re 17. I expect David A. will mature real soon.

Deb-deb, hear hear at 45, and Interested Observer at 56, you always make such great observations. While it might be natural to want some accountability for the “8 Days” performance, there’s no need to bash Kristy and get all personal. I also was seeing some parallels with the Sanjaya bashing, although I don’t think anything has been as bad as what he was subjected to. I’ve been pondering Simon’s “musical wallpaper” comment and wondering whether it’s a bit sexist. He’s made similar comments about other female performers—Haley, for example. Have we ever heard him describe a guy’s performance as wallpaper, cardboard, etc.?? hmmm. My radio station this morning discussed AI’s substantial role in affecting the votes and finally admitted that AI wanted Sanjaya off last year to change the storyline to Idol Gives Back, and as IO said, they made a gross miscalculation.
This year is just kind of blah even though many have very good voices (even Kristy).

Why is it still so hard for people to entertain the idea (much less accept the reality) that Sanjaya was actually VOTED OFF? And not because of the producer’s finagling?

He was atrocious during the week he got voted off. I know y’all gonna say: but he was atrocious in the previous weeks.

As the competition winds down to the latter rounds, the fanbase’s voting has a lesser effect b/c the casual fans/viewers increase. You need your fanbase AND the casual fans support to continue.

If Sanjaya performed well that week (like how he did the previous week w/ “Besame”), he would survive. But he didn’t. If the Idol people planned to get rid of Sanjaya prior to “Idol Gives Back”, could they be able to plan for Sanjaya to suck that week?

My first post. I am hooked.

Enough of this Carly in the bottom 3 hysteria. She is so enjoyable to LISTEN to, but to watch her is torture. She is spooky and desperate. I was really freaked out by her getting the number “7″ tatoo on her knuckle.

Here’s the deal with Archuleta. He is the perfect paradox. He has the purity about him (in his persona and his voice), but then…you see and HEAR a very sexy undertone to it all. It is what makes forty-year old moms like me (whos favorites are ACDC, Aerosmith, and Joe Walsh) buy everything this kid sells.

So this seasons I’d say the CUTE ones are:
Johns, Castro, and Archuleta

The TALENTED ones are:
Cook, Archuleta, and Carly

Archuleta is the perfect storm.

Ok. I admit that i am hooked with this show AI and still season 6 is my favourite season from all time ( i guess) even though I don’t like Jordin as the winner.

Season 7 – hmmmm. I don’t know about this group – I still can’t get the connection with the contestants. Everytime I listen to their songs, I don’t find it interesting about it. I think I agree with Simon’s comments everytime he uses the term “BORING”. I am totally bored of watching them. I mean, can they perform something a little special, something can make us 100% WOW not just so so performance. Even little David A – he is not that really great. Yes, he can sing but can he really sing not just a ballad style songs or slow songs – that is a big question.

I hope AI is worthwhile to watch otherwise a lot of people will be disappointed and i am one of them.

Really… i just cant believe it. whats happening to america? first the elimination of alaina whitaker, than hernandez, now amanda. Please, you guys need to learn how to vote!!! it’s a fuc%$^ absurd that this bit^%& kristy is still on te competition!!! she cant sing, she had no carisma at all. i just can think that shes having an affair with someone from idol. its not possible!!

Rickey – I don’t know what the heck happened with Carly being in the Bottom 3. I voted for her for 90 minutes this week — I’ll have to make it 120 minutes this week. This girl is the best vocalist this season and there is no way she should’ve been anywhere near going home.

What is the matter with America? They are holding it against her that she had a previous recording contract that didn’t work out? So she’s just supposed to give up I guess. And her tatooes? I don’t think I’ve ever heard a tatoo on a CD before.

Okay – I’m dong ranting. Carly gets all my votes next week.

Rickey, i totally disagree with you. for me, carly just scream every song she sang. she overdue every tone, doesnt sing the melody at all and when she hits the high notes, its flat, always flat and semi toned. the best female vocalist this year is ramiele malubay. always on pitchy, singing the melodies, like a pro. she needs more confident and just find the right song.

i still cant believe it that kristy keeps going and going on the competition, you know. cmon. lets stop the robbery idol, cause the things are getting darker and darker… i think she can probably win too! why not? shes going on tour, thats so funny! for me, the worst contestant ever!!!

heavyblow, If you don’t realize that the producers finagle, then you are just not paying attention.

The whole purpose for them is not to discover new talent but to draw big numbers to the show and any spinoffs they create. The talent is just fodder for the money making mill.

They reserve the right to take off a contestant regardless of what the vote count says. It is all a decision based upon stirring controversy and gaining eyeballs.

And when you think about it, why should they trust Americans to make sure the right singers stay? After all Americans did give George Bush a second term.

Hi guys. After about three weeks of reading the comments posted here I finally decided to log on. I love how things are discussed maturely without the bickering and the name calling and childish swooning like “oh I adore his ears” or “i love his eyelashes”.
Although, it’s another kind of lovin’ made me log on to this site. I was seriously expecting Chris Hansen to kick the door and come into my home as I was shooting smoldering looks at my screen watching top 24 performance of david who’s about 10 years younger than me. Then I read momof3’s post.
I agree with everything she said and also with another post that said “when he sings he oozes power and strength and when he starts to talk I feel all motherly again” which is the same thing I feel. Well I don’t feel motherly, sisterly maybe coz I only see a very average looking kid, who does nothing for me there.
I think it’s the same effect Britney Spears had on people when she first came out. I remember the exact spot I was when I first saw the video “Hit me baby one more time” and I don’t remember what I ate last night. I was in a music store in London and they had the video on screen and I just froze and felt the need to watch until it ended in awe. Of course I don’t wish anything Britney on him, I think they have the same kind of charisma going on.
And for Carly, I love her voice, it’s insanely clear and addicting but anytime she sings I expect her to bite a bat’s head off what with all the angry face and crazy eyes. So I’m not that surprized she was on the bottom 3. I don’t find the tattoos as frightening as I do the looks she gives while she sings. She may need to get a hold of that.

I really hope David to sing either Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar or Close Every Door from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Or something from Phantom of The opera ooh İ feel giddy Carly can do a mean Memories (Cats) too I think
