And the pimping has begun – pimp spot, rave reviews from all 3 judges, we saw him sing how many times before tonight – like 5 or something? Same thing with David A. I’m sure we’ll get a standing ovation for Carly tomorrow night – who knows, maybe she’ll get the pimp spot, too. I just bristle at the overt favoritism.

No one busts him for trying to sound like Jim Morrison? Talk about karaoke. I’ve heard versions of that tune in my neighborhood bay, sung by a chick that blows his performance out of the water. I thought Australians were supposed to be hot. This twerp is a total DUDE.

I know whenever I miss a performance I can come right back to Rickey.Always on time and waiting for hopeful video.Ok first this guy was my fav from the get go.He’s hot but no one can be Jim Morrisson anyway,but he didn’t do so bad at all.He’s not going anywhere for a long time.As for Bohemian Rhapsody he did much better than Constanshtick.

Ok, how is it that this guy is being pimped so much??? He was singing off-pitch for a good portion of the song!! I kind of feel like my brain is going to explode! I can see David Archuleta being pimped because the kid can SING! This guy… not so much.

Yeah, they really like this guy and tonight anyway, he wasn’t great. Seems quite unfair, especially to the guys that tonight is the first time the audience has seen them. They treat them harshly and then sing this guys praises. boo

He’s SO overrated.
I really want to like this guy, but something keeps holding me back and I’m not sure what.
I think he’s ok. He can sing yeah, but I dunno.. I’m just not feelin him.

Like richie, I was having a difficult time posting for over an hour!

To be fair, Michael Johns performance of “Light My Fire” was good. Jim Morrison wasn’t being resurrected but it was entertaining. I think Amanda Overmyers’ version during Hollywood week actually had MORE fire! Hers was awesome!

I had a lot of expectations of Johns due to the advance pimping he received but he should have no problem progressing to next weeks’ show.

Surprisingly, Johns was upstaged by a singer/guitarist, who received minimal publicity, sang a simple song, was very understated in his performance, yet successfully convinced me to pay attention to him in the future. I am so there.:D

I have to admit that I was a tad bit disappointed in this performance, especially after Bohemian Rhapsody, but I keep thinking about the comment I read earlier today on a spoiler thread that everyone had the flu. Now we all know that when you hear that “everyone had the flu” it really means that several people actually are sick, and I wonder if he might not be one of those folks. I noticed that he seemed to cough after he performed and was reaching to put his microphone down.
Anyway, I think that he will be around a while, and I hope we will see something interesting from him.

I’m with the “that was less than good” crowd. Our little band of high school sophomores in 1966 did a stronger Light My Fire. And on Bohemian Rhapsody I thought the guy was straining and the song was too much for him like it is for a lot of folks. Then he has that idiosyncrasy of trailing off the last note like Cher. Gahh!

Simon was all over the place last night. Just destroying “Leif Garret” because he’s skinny more than his weak performance, then gushing about Michael Johns who fit the karaoke mold to the T for me. Also was just being a d&ck with Paula about “what color was that one?”

I guess that’s part of what makes this interesting.

Hmmm, the performance was okay…but not quite as good as I expected. I rank you 3rd in my opinion poll. I think the totally obscure Jason Castro performed slightly better…and the yound David Archuleta outsung you.

Little David has a comfortable stage performance, too (like you) plus a great voice AND humble/sweet personality…better watch out for that youngin’ and pray that puberty has NOT yet relinquished its hold and can still make his voice “crack” at will!

BTW…I was able to form an opinion about his “singing” performance on a “singing” show without my vote being swayed by something that is totally unrelated to what came out of his vocal chords or how the overall stage performance went down!

When will the madness cease! I guess it will never NOT be American (top model) Idol.

Michael Johns wins the “best dressed” award tonight. I think David Archuleta out-sings him, but Michael Johns has potential. He lives in a very cool part of Atlanta so he is probably a very cool person. At least I don’t have to worry about him saying “I owe it all to Jesus” after a performance anytime, as has happened before.

I like this guy and thought his vocals were totally ON…yet I struggle with this whole “professional vs. ameteur” thing. I wish AI only allowed those to enter who have no previous recording experience. That would weed out Michael Johns and others… This guys is almost too good.

He hits off notes that aren’t pleasing. Sings good but not real good. Same with Amanda. I love these styles of singing, especially hers, but they are a long long way off.

This was a very mediocre performance and not worthy of the pimping. This performance also showed a limited range. However, I’ll give him a pass this week because he maybe sick like some of the girls. I thought Jason Castro out sang him by a long shot. He is a cutie though.

He seemed stiff and self-conscious. Moves around like a cliched rock singer.

His singing was just okay. Nothing that special even if he has nice tone. When he hits the higher notes his vocal seems strained.

At least Constantine could hit the high notes effortlessly.
