That dress was slammin’ (like the kids say)…now as for her performance — she didn’t bring anything new to the song…just “karaoke” as Simon says…:) but she’s getting good experience, good management, let’s see where she’s at one year from now….she’s very pretty should consider modeling.

Oh yeah! Saw her on the show & poor thing, Jordin didn’t do RESPECT justice! She seemed to be rushing through the number. I could just imagine Aretha [[[cringing]]] in her seat thinking, “shoulda been Jen Hudson… shoulda been Jen Hudson.

But… that milk chocolate gown at the top of this thread? COLD!!! Girlfriends’ warddrobe is slowly improving & nicely. Youthful, tasteful Yet fashionable.;)

I think Jordin sang beautifully … no one can beat Aretha singing that song, and I’m glad Jordin didn’t try.

Well first of all, Sweetbee — Kelly Clarkson came damn close to singing as good as Aretha and Re even commented on how much she liked the Kelly version on AI…that being stated, Jordin needs to find some originality…she’s even blowing kisses like Jennifer Hudson does it

I remember Kelly Clarksons’ performance in the premier season of AI & it gave me goose bumps. She emerged from the backfield when she delivered a gritty, soulful version of RESPECT forcing Tamyra Gray & Justin Guarini (2 front-runners at the time) to blink twice & she never looked back!

I’m quite amused at some of the comments here, guess we’re all entitled to our opinions.I think Jordin did very well with that song.Aretha is one person that doesn’t hide her feelings and she looked pleased with the performance. The person who made the comment about her cringing must be watching something else, must also be a bad mind reader to know what Aretha was thinking. By the way, as good as J-Hud is,her performance of “Think” at an occasion honouring Aretha was roundly slammed, that performance can be found on youtube, watch and judge yourself.

Likewise, I’m often amused at the assortment of comments posted here at Rickeys. The beauty of this place is that we all may express our opinions & observations which are not necessarily based on facts. Absolute factsare not a prerequisite to post here, so far.

But let me emphasize, oakjazz, that I do not possess mind-reading capabilities. Yet, I, like others, made an assessment of Jordins’ performance on the NAACP awards & I (persoanlly) offered my take of Arethas’ non-verbal response to Jordins’ performance. I believe it is still ok to offer my observation on this site. Aretha was polite & courteous as would be expected. But I (personally) do NOT believe that she was overwhelmed. And that is NOT to say that she was expected to be “blown over” by this young womans’ rendition of RESPECT. But my assessment is that Aretha thought the pretty young girl sang the song o.k.

Let me follow up with the FACT that I like Jordin & believe her to be a very good singer. Also, I’ll add my ASSESSMENT that she has not YET truly found her niche in the market.

As suggested, oakjazz, I checked youTube & listened to the Jennifer Hudson performance of THINK. JHud can sing, no question. But, she oversang this 1. Because her vocal capability is so powerful, she needs to hold back a little in her performances. I’m comfortable that this assessment is pretty widespread. Even back to her AI days, I felt that JHud had the cords & knew it but lacked control. I would have hoped that after several years in & about the musical business, that she would have toned it down a bit. However, I believe (my opinion once again) that when she is in the moment of the performance feeling the emotions of the song(as many singers do) that ‘control’ goes out of the window.

JHud is a powerhouse singer & looks to have a long, fabulous career ahead of her, basically as a vocalist, among other things.

Other than posters’ comments following the vidclip at youTube, direct me to where she was “roundly slammed”. Thanx.

I’m glad you took time out to listen to JHud’s performance”apryletter”. My comment on your opinion about what Aretha may have felt about Jordin’s performance stemmed from the exact words used in the post.I just felt that the suggestion of her possible disatisfaction and probable wish that some other named singer had performed the song needed to be dispelled. I didn’t suggest that Aretha was overwhelmed but at least pleased with the young lady’s efforts, considering the fact Arteha has no problems expressing her exact feelings verbally or otherwise.

Anyway, as earlier stated, we’re all entitled to our opinions, discussions would be boring if people agreed on all issues, all the time.

Actually only just read the last paragraph of your last post on other sources of opinions on Jhud’s performance “apryletter”. I do not currently have links, just remember reading reviews of the night’s performances, you could probably still find them if you type in the relevant words in a search.It doesn’t really matter anyway,they were after all, just opinions.Even when opinions come from the so called critics, they remain just opinions, I think our own opinions based on our assessments are always advised.

The fact that J-Hud has fabulous pipes isn’t in contention. The only reason that reference was made was because of your comment about J-Hud and Aretha’s possible thoughts. It was to show that Jhud has also performed one of Aretha’s songs in her presence and that it didn’t exactly blow Aretha away.

kelly did bring more oomph to the song, in my opinion, but i still think jordin did a good job. she looked really cute and pretty confident, too. i think she’s coming along very well and i’m sure she’s just going to get better.

hahaaha… it’s funny to watch aretha watching her perform this song….. i know she’s thinking “this girl ain’t doing this song justice!” i love jordin, was always my favorite last season, but she was no good on this song….. which is surprising cause she has that big old voice, but it didn’t work for me….. hahaha… now, im sounding like randy…. lol…. i didn’t get it though… still love her!!!! can’t wait for more of her….

Wow….This is art people, and everyone has their own opinions and you will never change anyone’s opinion with yours. With that, not trying to sway anyone, and it is my opinion only, based on my experiences and predispositions…..I thought Jordin did a great job.

Oh, by the way….if you look at the video, the couple behind Aretha’s left shoulder, enjoyed Jordin’s performance enough for Aretha and the rest of the audience….they were pretty excited…..
