Syesha Mercado sang “Think” by Aretha Franklin, and had a pimp-to-the-max introduction video.

In the summer of 2006, Syesha Mercado was a contestant on ABC’s “The One: Making a Music Star” which was based on Operación Triunfo / Star Academy. It’s a mashup of music competition and Big Brother. Unfortunately, ABC canceled “The One” after 4 episodes. It had the distinction of having scored “the second-lowest audience ever for a premiere episode on a major U.S. broadcast network”. Of course, I watched it, hahaha — not for Syesha Mercado, but for somebody else (we were rooting for the cute but vocally challenged contestant with a Southern accent).

At any rate, I was able to find a video of Syesha Mercado singing “Chain of Fools” on “The One”! Syesha Mercado was the best singer on “The One” — let’s see how she fares on American Idol. The contestants on “The One” weren’t exactly cream of the crop. Syesha Mercado might be swallowed up vocally on American Idol.

Well, she’s cute, and she sings alright, but meh.. I wasn’t too impressed.
I wasn’t really impressed with anyone tonight. It was like they ALL had pitch problems.

Did anyone else happen to catch Manuel Romero at the end where they were showing the 17 who had made it through to Hollywood?

Manuel was on AGT this past season……..

Okay, let me get this straight. A lot of the contestants are recycled from other reality shows? Manuel what’s his name was on America’s Got Talent? Is it possible that the producers of AI are grabbing these failed contestants from other shows and putting them on AI?

Does anybody remember AI having these many re-cycled reality performers before now? I don’t remember….I recall failed contestants from AI returning – like Gina – to try again and again.

Now about Mercado — She has the vocal power, but she reminds me so much of Nadia with the hair and the body. She can sing yes, but like others I wonder if she’s “star” quality.

I can’t wait for Hollywood week. Bring it on!

I think we’re seeing alot of recycled people from other shows b/c well.. they probably try out for every single thing they can hoping it’s going to be their ticket to stardom. So it’s not surprising at all that we’re getting people who have tryed out for other reality shows.

This is off topic…but is it just me or does anyone else not see Taylor Hicks in the beginning of the show as the electronic man begins walking and you see the progression of winners…you can obviously see Kelly, then Ruben, then Fantasia, then Carrie…then it skips to the end and there’s Jordin.

I keep looking everyweek for Taylor but I don’t see him. Does anyone see him? Or is he not shown?

Syesha, Syesha, Syesha. You have had a real ride my dear. But I personally think, you are one of the better singers. The problem I find, is that you have no defined style. And that, is what’s beating you up. Kristy at the very least has a pop/country type of style. Is Kristy a better singer than you? No way! But she does have an edge, as people can fit her in a category.

Also, don’t pick what you sing. Why? Cause’ you suck at it. You honestly have, an AMAZING voice! Truly! But I don’t find people are appreciating you, because you are not defined in any one genre. And it’s coming off, like you’re reaching.

You’ll find your genre one day. I hope sooner than later. You need to find a manager/producer, who can hone your skills. But not in an R&B sense. That’s what was Fantasia’s downfall to a degree with her album(s).

Personally speaking, I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Fantasia is the most amazing singer that has ever graced the American Idol stage. Period. But it’s her producing that basically knocked her back. She was amazing on the show, because she sang anything, with her own unique style. And she sang the hell out of whatever she sang. You felt, what she sang. You didn’t just hear her sing, you felt it. More narrow minded people can only hear the notes. But a person who appreciates life, and the arts, is someone who can appreciate when an artist is able to move them. That is what is Fantasia’s gift. I will always love Fantasia’s voice, and passion.

I am going on about Fantasia, as an example as too what you need to do my dear Syesha. Who are you as a person, as an artist? What do you bring to the table? What do you want to share? Let’s see it! Let’s feel it! Not in the path of another performers success, but in your own special style. But what is that style? What is that special quality about you, that makes you the amazing singer you are? If you don’t know what that is, or are apprehensive to show it, share it, than anything less, is a waste of time and energy.

Syesha had the best performance last week imo. She has a great voice but she seems fake to me when she responds to the judges’ comments. Maybe she’s trying to hard. Just relax!

Syesha is soo hated why? i think she deserves more, and i’ll won’t be surprised if a Jennifer Hudson repeat will happen with Syesha!!!
