I was not a Danny nor Neil fan until tonight! Danny’s solo left me awestruck, but the prince’s dance WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO! WoW, made me think of Thriller for a moment – it was electrically exciting! I could see them in a dance horror musical dance off til death or something IDK, just rambling because that routine was off the charts! How can Danny, Sabra and Neil all make it in the finals? I am sorry about the fox dance for Sabra, because she didn’t get a good routine! Great dancing tonight – breathtaking! Danny was the showstopper!

I guess some have said that Danny’s solo was all tricks and little dance. True there were a lot of tricks but it’s like Mary has said… the jumps are great but it’s the way he gets out of them and flows into connecting moves that is so great.

I know this is my third post but forgive me! This is my first season watching and I thought it would go from 4 to 2 , not 4 to 1. I was hoping Danny and Sabra would be the top 2 and then the winner. Oh well, they were all awesome but Danny is the best male and Sabra is the best girl!

DANNY’S SOLO WAS AMAZING!….so was his duet with NEIL!!!

There isnt much else I can say about his talent except that he deserves this title.

Neil was really good tonight too…I like him but my boy is Danny.

Sabra was adorable.

I loved Travis’ reaction to his solo….oh

and his interview segment with Kat was great. Im glad they
1. mentioned his close relationship with Denise Wall. It was so sweet when Kat asked him if he called her mom and he looked really emotional and say yeah.

sorry to be posting so much….but in response to sabrarocks…I think if Danny got out there and totally stunk up the room then I think you got a point about people voting for him just because he is travis’ brother.
but let me remind everyone that it took a lot of america to open up to danny..they put him in the bottom 3 times…once everyone got to see the real him…especially in his interview tonight with Kat…people got the picture.

plus youd be crazy not to notice the amount of talent he has. even if you arent a fan of his you have to admit it.

Well, I became Hok’s fan when he danced the Hummingbird and Sabra with Dominic’s rumba, but tonight was the first time when I could say I liked Neil when duetting with Danny. It was powerful but Danny’s solo was the most amazing out of all. The thing I like about Danny and Sabra, was what the last judge hit on, both of their athleticism, grace and the ability to make it appear effortless is what it is all about! Watching their psychical bodies extend is just beautiful. I’ll stop now!

oh c’mon sabrarocks…if that was the case danny never would’ve made it this far. same with lacey. making it to the final four has nothing to do with their siblings, not at this point in the competition anyway. danny’s skill stands on it’s own, completely. I didn’t even watch all of last season so travis, as dope as he is, is not a factor in my personal danny-awe.

on neil/danny: mia michaels is back! her choreography has befuddled me the past couple of weeks but this concept was perfect and hot…loved it. very masculine very…snarly. snarly? is that a word? I was like snarling watching it. like…raaawr. sexy. strong. I think one of these gentleman will be the winner to be honest. yes, a dude will win again and they can thank mia for it. so awesome.

on danny/sabra: the partnership we have all been waiting for…what a fun, sexy cha cha. I sooo wish we could’ve opened the show with it, though, cause they looked a bit winded much like lacey and neil did during their lindyhop. sabra looked gorgeous, though…her body is sick sick sick and that bright pink number was doing it, honey.

anyway, I know that some people may get sick of the complete spell he has cast on the judges and choreographers but it’s all deserved. danny’s name is going to be uttered in the same breath as the greats one day…he’s going to have a phenomenal career no matter what. he gives me the chills. talented bastard. anybody that says that kid can’t dance is truly just hating…and I don’t even use that word loosely. you cannot deny that the force is strong with d-tills (thats so cute, rickey!)

2kidsdogs: I am glad you enjoyed this SYTYCD finale, especially Danny’s performances! I hope you’ll return next season so we can all dissect & analyze the next slew of hopefuls.

And to whomever said that the brotherly connection between Travis & Danny is why Danny is still in the show – believe me, if Danny didn’t have exquisite dance skills, he would NOT be in the Final 4! If the resulting votes included perceived personality flaws, he would have been outta here! Danny is in the 4 because he deserves to be in the 4 & tomorrow deserves to be the WINNER!!

By the way, all season, SYTYCD producers have wanted a girl for the purpose of balancing out the wins (2 guys have already won), but life ain’t necessarily fair, so… whatever happens, happens. GO DANNY!!!!!!!

OMG Danny’s solo was amazing! Best contemporary (or is it more of ballet) I’ve seen on the show. I bet Shane Sparks( with his disappointing, unimpressive choreography tonight) and that gay guy who made Hairspray are taking back their words. Like Nigel said, they were talking crap. I mean, so what if a person is confident of himself? He has a right to be.
They addressed that issue in the interview and as embarassing as it is to say this, I cried for him because I could understand how he feels. He said,”i realized how misunderstood I was. After he said that, it made me want to close up even more, rather than open up.” I think his “arrogance” was a front and I felt really bad for Danny and what he’s been through. They should judge on the dancing and he is excellent. He mentioned that lets out all his feelings in dance and it shows.I’m really glad Mia was able to bring him out of his shell.
Also, Travis’ brother or not, I would definitely vote for him. I actually think he surpassed his brother because he has more charisma and performance ability. he is such an amazing dancer. Also, it’s not fair to criticize him for that because Lacey is Benji’s sister.
Oh btw, I think it’s so funny that, like, Travis and Benji are still dueling out through their relatives. I mean, Benji is rooting for Lacey and Travis is rooting for Danny. Benji won last time, so shouldn’t Danny win? Haha.
I agree with the commentors that the “kings” routine of Danny and Neil were amazing! I have been such a fan of Neil too and these past weeks have been great for him. he looked tired by the end of the show though, i noticed that. But, he still gave each performance so much energy and passion. i still remember his and Sabra’s jazz routine last week to Sweet Dreams. I loved it!
All in all, I hope Danny wins this season because he really deserves it. Hands down.

Oh and I forgot to say that my favorite routine of the night was actually LAcey and Danny’s waltz. The lines were just amazing and the whole routine was just smooth perfection. Also, the camaraderie and friendship between Danny and Lacey really showed tonight.This brings me back to Danny and Anya’s routine to You And Me and Pasha & Jessie’s waltz to Come Away With Me. I guess I’m just a sucker for waltzes haha.

“sabrarocks”, I’ll be honest, I love Danny despite his connection to Travis, heh. Travis was not by far my favorite dancer last season, didn’t have one really, but I could have taken him or left him.

I’ve loved Danny from the get go because of his talent, of course, and his personality and presence, he gives me so much as a dancer that few ever have, and that touched me, deeply.

I am a fan of Danny Tidwell, Travis be damned, heh.

I’ve spent the better part of my day rewatching routines throughout the season (with many thanks to you, Rickey), and I have to say the one quality that impresses me the most about Danny is his ability to make anyone and everyone dancing with him look as amazing as he is. Throughout the entire season, he has truly danced for the “art” and not for the “win”. He’s danced to make it look beautiful and not to outshine. For that reason alone, I think he deserves to win…and of course, the fact that he’s un-freakin’-believably amazing.

As a side note, I was really impressed with Lacey tonight as well. I wish the judges has been more on top of criticizing her for working more with the camera than with her partner. Tonight was the first time I felt she truly connected with her partner(s) since the contemporary of the first week. I could appreciate her talent a lot more because I wasn’t put off by her showiness. She was a lot more honest tonight.

I hope it comes down to Lacey v. Danny tomorrow because I think they owned the night. Last year, I voted for Benji, but this year, it’s Danny all the way!

I have no idea how many votes I logged, but I voted the entire two hours. I did give about 30 votes to Sabra because I. Love. Her. and she was great tonight as well.

But Danny… oh, Danny. He has been wonderful all season, but tonight he was truly exceptional. It’s what I’ve been waiting for from him, and he truly did not disappoint. I got all teary for the first time ever in this show, tonight, watching him. He is incredible. The Mia routine? Exquisite. She should be nominated for another Emmy for that one (oh, and it was definitely majorly, disturbingly HOT). The waltz? Beautiful. He and Lacey dance so well together. The cha cha? HOT. The pairing we’ve been waiting for all season did not disappoint at ALL.

I also thought it was very interesting that both Danny and Lacey said the Samba was their best routine. They really are a great partnership.

I also really liked the Wade routine. Maybe Nigel and Mary didn’t get it, but I did. Sabra and Lacey both danced very well. I guess the only routine I really didn’t care for was the hip hop. Not really crazy about the Lindy hop either, though it was good.

It’s obvious that Nigel and Co want Sabra to win, but I hope Danny can pull it out. I voted my booty off for him! I kept getting busys on my cell for the first hour and a half, so I pulled out the landline and got through every time after about the first 30 minutes. No idea how many though.

Anyway, GO DANNY!

The show just ended and since I haven’t gotten through once, I just thought I’d post.
I loved loved loved Danny tonight. If I wasn’t a fan of his to begin with, i certainly would be now. His solo: AMAZING!! I loved seeing Travis AND Benji cheering for him, that was awesome.
I wasn’t going to vote because I just wanted to let the cards fall where they may and take the results as is, but I couldn’t not vote for Danny.
So now I’m going back to voting, hoping to get through.
The waltz was GORGEOUS. I thought the waltz couldn’t beat the one with Anya and Danny but this one was right on par.
The cha cha was hot hot! I wished for Danny and Sabra to get contemporary, but this was a really hot piece.
That Neil and Danny contemporary was fantastic, I’ll definitely be watching it over and over.

I’m not sure when I have seen a better solo than Danny’s. I waited to comment on it until I was able to see it on my big tv screen and not just the computer screen…

I also appreciated Danny in the opening group number. He seemed to be having a great time with the routine…as he seemed to be having a great time with all the routines this evening. I especially enjoyed the “chat” with Cat….I hope it gave people insight into Danny and what he is about.

But I am truely awed by Danny’s solo perfomance tonight.

Sabra was adorable and I hope if Danny doesn’t win, she does. She looked sooooo hot in that pink outfit.

I gained respect for both Neil and Lacey tonight. I think Neil should get the most improved dancer award.

For the first time this season, I was really charmed by Lacey. I didn’t understand the outfit in her solo, but I guess that is a minor thing.

I have not voted all season but there was no way in heck that I wasn’t going to vote for Danny. I lost track of how many times I pushed that redial button. Danny really outshined the rest tonight. He was extrodinary. Simply extrodinary.

I have loved Danny from the very beginning and it always mad me so mad how everyone just painted him as arrogant. Just because somebody is reserved and doesn’t mug the camera doesn’t he or she is arrogant. He was a gentleman throughout the entire show and handled every criticism (not matter how harsh or painful) with class and dignity. Not once did he ever talk back to a judge or say anything unkind.

what was up with the other routines? shane’s…was just amateur at best, wade’s is getting too, i don’t know, what is he thinking expressing himeself. isn’t he suppose to help showcase the dancers. and i really can’t remember the other two or however many. mia, Mia, MIA!!

yes, i have said i wanted sabra to win but, i don’t know whether it was her or the routines but she didn’t really get to glow as a dancer. danny, uh, just outshined them all imo, he stepped up his performance level. and i recall that danny has been on the hot tamale train more than any of the other three dancers.

like everyone has already said… Danny was absolutely stunning tonight. his solo was an incredible display of his capabilities (don’t hate me though… I did miss the usual emotion and musicality some of his other solos have had… but he was smart and did all the crowd pleasing stuff.) he is without a doubt the best dancer on the show.

i will be so f***ing livid if Lacey wins. she doesn’t deserve it and it would be a total replay of the injustice that was done last year. i’m keeping my fingers crossed that nigel’s stupid little comment about him wanting it to be a girl this year will backfire and give Danny the win.

I love me some Wade, but yea he missed the mark this time. The hummingbird routine was excellent because not only was the choreography inventive, but it was a huge showcase for Hok & Jamie’s abilities. Tonight’s was just too abstract and undancelike. But hey, I think he’s earned a couple passes.

I picked Danny from the beginning. Knew nothing about him…did not remember seeing him in the auditions. It was obvious to me that his lines were perfection. All that arrogant talk really irritated me to no end. Being a reserved person myself, his answer to Kat was just what I have felt for years…misunderstood and wanting to withdraw even more. What an injustice it would have been for him to not make the finals! He was awesome last night. The others were good and certainly deserved to be there, but simply do not hold a candle to Danny Tidwell. I will continue to follow his career. I don’t think I;ve ever felt this passionate about any of the reality show contestants. Thank you Danny. Watching you the past several months has been the highlight of my week.

Does anyone know what Travis was yelling and acting out with his hands after Danny’s frighteningly fantastic solo? I could not tell whay he was mouthing but it looked funny and I’d love to know what he said in response.

GREAT show all around. The only one who lacked oomph for me was Lacey. I wish Pasha had been there instead. Sigh.

I have no idea who should or who will win. Sabra, Neil and Danny are STARS now in the dance world and each one reeks of the winner’s cirle aroma!

I believe Danny’s brother, Travis and his mom were gesturing about Danny’s solo routine. They were saying something like “what was that?” Like us all, they were so incredulous and amazed at the “no holds barred” performance he gave.

Danny’s mom and Travis were not the only ones amazed. Even Benji Schwimmer had to give a standing ovation for Danny’s solo performance. AND each and every judge gave him a standing ovation as well.

The man is beyond brilliant and it has been a real joy to watch him grow and in so many ways be bigger and better than those that stood in judgment of him.

Regarding Danny’s ability as a ballet dancer…the following might help you. You have been dogging on Danny since forever. Jealous?

Taken from one of Danny Tidwell’s bios:

In 2001, he won second prize at an international ballet competition in Shanghai, China, then in 2002 he received the silver medal at the Jackson International Ballet Competition. Danny then went on to join the American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company, and was hired in May 2003 as the ABT’s Corps de Ballet. He has worked on a number of classical ballet repertory productions such as Spectre de la Rose and Peasant pas de deux in Giselle. He also performed contemporary works by choreographers Robert Hill and William Forsythe. Danny is currently among the faculty of the New York City Dance Alliance, and performs with the Complexions Contemporary Ballet Company.

I’m bummed I haven’t seen the waltz yet since it’s supposed to be great. That said, I have seen all of Neil and Sabra’s dances and I’ll be honest, I think Sabra really bombed out. Her cha cha was pathetic (of course Nigel says technique doesn’t matter anymore, I mean, it’s only the finale) and her solo was o.k., but it seems that the others really raised their game and she just kinda plateaued as someone else said. Anyway, Danny and Neil’s dance was by far the best.

To say that one person doesn’t deserve to win a competition because of their past accomplishments is plain silly to me.

Lacey holds countless titles in her genre of dance, as does Pasha and Anya….and various others that performed on that stage. As did Benji.

I know that Dominic is an accomplished dancer and teacher in the Sacramento, Ca area. (which includes Roseville & Rancho Cordova) In fact, he teaches at two establishments. Dominic also has a dance troupe that he performs with.

I don’t know what HOK has done or does.

Regarding the “dating” issue. My apologies, I misunderstood.

p.s. I have no problem w/ Sabra winning….if Danny doesn’t. However, Danny IS the best dancer of the lot. Hands down. AND I love his playful, joyful personality.

I also admire the way all of the competitors are friends and the special bond between them. It goes to show that they are all decent human beings and I truely believe each of them will be happy for whomever wins this competition.

Oh my Gosh heavyblow!

Danny works hard and has worked hard to get to where he is, just because he makes all the other guys look like crap doesn’t make him less qualified for this competiton. Like you saw in his interview he had to work hard with opening up to America. Trust me as a ballet dancer its a lot easier to dance and pour your heart and soul out to the world, but ballet teaches you to have respect and poise, something that the other guys didn’t have.

I have watched Danny in many ballet auditions when he was at Kirov (now Universal) and I was in awe of him and I still am in awe. His artistry and attention to detail is amazing.

Now to last night’s show, I was so happy with Danny of course, but I now have a new found love of Lacey, and I would like to see her and Danny in the top two, with Danny being on top . I was very disappointed with Neil. I had to stop watching his solo, because of his shoulders, if they got any higher he wouldn’t have a head.

I loved last night’s show, it made me wish that my season would start back up so I can get back to my rehearsals, lol.

Ok. So who could seriously be so stuppid to think that Danny doesn’t deserve to be there because of his proffesional background. Melinda doolittle on American Idol had a “proffesional” background in singing and look at how many people thought that she should have won.The fact that you have a proffesional background doesn’t change the fact that he should win. The talent show isn’t only about finding the unknown dancers and giving them a name, it’s about finding THE MOST talented of the whole bunch trying as hard as possible to make sure that they win. Why because having a proffesional background doesn’t change the fact of hard that one particular person works. This season that one particular person was Danny.

I felt bad for Wade Robeson. It’s one thing for the dancers to get a critique. They are in this to win a competition and prize money. What do the choreographers for their creations? I am sure they get paid but .. Ouch, I felt bad for him. They clearly did not get the “fox” dance (for a FOX show, hmmmm).

Loved your informed and intelligent rebuttals of the arguments that Danny should not have been allowed to compete or be given props for his performances on SYTYCD because he is an accomplished professional.

If the producers of the show felt that one’s professional credentials presented unfair advantages , then they would have barred those contestants from the competition. Nigel and other judges, choreographers have noted several times that the level of dancing this season has been superior to other seasons. One of the reasons for this is because the presence of professionals and/or contestants with numerous commendations and a rich dance background have raised the bar and elevated standards of excellence. Otherwise, we would could mediocre dancers as we did in past seasons.
Keep up your superb comments,Bettysline. I, for one, fully support what you say about Danny and thoroughly appreciate and enjoy your calm, informed, and intelligent responses.

This is my first post, but I’ve been a longtime lurker on Rickey’s site. I love it and am very grateful to him for keeping it current.

But I digress…

The criticisms about Danny are just plain silly. The same people keep parroting the same ridiculous tripe that the judges parroted in the beginning. They do this while offering no intelligent commentary or original thinking. There’s nothing sustentative in their rants, just bitter vitriol and sour grapes.

Let a judge say something, and the ‘sheepled masses,’ having no novel thoughts of their own will repeat it nonstop, again and again. They repeat it so much they actually begin to believe it came from their own brains. And God forbid if they hate the object of their parroting. That gives them even more reason to spew their childish gibberish all over the internet.

The same thing happened during Season 5 of AI with Elliott. One judge says he has no personality or stage presence, then viola! Every Tom, Dick and Sally on the internet and beyond starts spouting the same bulls**t. They couldn’t get him technically (because of his amazing voice) so they went for a gray area that the brain-dead and weak-minded could latch onto. George Orwell would’ve been proud.

Danny Tidwell is an amazing dancer with a bright future ahead of him. Whether he’s gay or straight has nothing to do with the gift God has given him. I judge his dancing. Since I don’t walk on water, can’t dance to save my life, don’t have a crystal ball to see him during his private moments, have no talent at mind-reading, nor have I ever been a fly on the wall in his house, I’m the last person to criticize or judge Danny. I’m in no position to make assumptions about him, his personality or anything else. I DON’T KNOW HIM and neither do any of these people who are trying to belittle him.

But I **do** know a tree by its fruit. If nothing but bitter vitriol spews from your keyboard, and if you can’t think of anything positive to say EVER, then you’re definitely in NO position to criticize anyone. Not only that, but I’d venture to guess you’ve got more problems than you think Danny Tidwell does.

Now … about Danny:

I have a LOT to say about this outcome, but the words keep getting in the way of the words …

Yeah, I know. That sounds like complete chicken droppings, but it’s true. I’ll get a thought, but then another eats it up. I could write something right now, but I’d truly regret it in the long run because it wouldn’t show every nuance of what I’m feeling. It would just show my DEEP disappointment … not my mind.

Understand?

IOW, I know what I want to say … but how to say it … oh, there’s the rub.

A writer without the proper words is like a dancer without feet.

They (the words) are what move me, but I can’t find them at the moment….

Annnyway, when I can voice what my heart (and my MIND) want to say, I’ll post it. Right now, the words are just running around in my head and I can’t catch them to save my life.

For now, my heart is with Danny and his mom.
