From the AP:
The father of ‘American Idol‘ judge Kara DioGuardi, former Republican congressman Joe DioGuardi, is set to announce he is running for the U.S. Senate seat held by Kirsten Gillibrand.
DioGuardi represented the suburbs north of New York City for two terms before he was defeated by Democrat Nita Lowey in 1988.
He is a certified public accountant who lives with his wife in Ossining, N.Y.
His campaign said Friday he will make an official announcement on Tuesday at Grand Central Station in Manhattan.

5 Comments for Kara DioGuardi’s Father Joe DioGuardi to run for U.S. Senate
I think he might have a very good chance in winning this. He is quite astute in financial affairs, government spending and controls of that. I know he is well published on the subject and has been involved with this for awhile. Heaven knows that is a quality in a political candidate that is a MUST — we are in such a fiscal mess.
Kirsten Gillibrand’s appointment is still a hot topic — w/ the gov in a hot seat — yet again. And, being Kara’s Dad just might get the young vote out!
He has a very clean record, as far as I know. Kara’s Mom is a very accomplished lady. And Kara’s only sibling–a brother–is a counselor at Pheonix House–doing very good work.
I hope he does throw his hat in the ring. If he does, I will be listening to his speeches and learning where he stands on issues–like the health care bill, etc.
If he’s anything like Kara, he will have a massive breakdown every time someone insults him.
Joe DioGuardi is a dynamic man, I am looking forward to his campaigning.
His opponent will have it so easy making negative ads. Just show a montage of Kara at her finest and ask if you want to be represented by the man who produced this as offspring.
I love Kara and it’s definitely going to help boost Joe’s popularity. I agree it will create negative ads, but I mean who doesn’t love American Idol? It’s just like politics, plus it’s a good angle to have the young ones get out and vote. I’m a transplant from White Plains, NY I hope Joe wins the U.S. Senate seat!
