The TV Addict has compiled the numbers of Twitter, Facebook and MySpace followers of the American Idol 9 Top 24 contestants so far and not surprisingly, Andrew Garcia is in the lead.
Andrew is a YouTube ‘star’ so his followers from YouTube most likely just carried over. It would be interesting to see how the numbers shape up when the voting opens for the semi-finals this week and when the Top 12 are announced.
This is such a low sampling so I wouldn’t give too much weight on it for now. Obviously the guys in the lead have early “grass roots” support. We’ll probably have a better indication of popularity once Ryan Seacrest announces the Twitter accounts and what not on TV this week.
Can Twitter, Facebook and MySpace followers spoil the winner this year? We’ll have to wait and see.

woot woot! tyler! and john!!!.. oh and rickey! rumors about a bromance!
its called PARTY! john PARk and TYler Grady! FUN FUN FUN!!!
I really don’t like them having this stuff this year. =/
And wow… the girls are WAYYYY better than the guys this year, and yet they boys are the top 5 most followed. This better not be representative of the future Top 5, or I’ll be severely pissed.
this WILL change throughout the weeks .. depending on their performances!
but I have a feeling that the top10 on twitter and facebook WILL be the top10 depending on how they do on the show the number will grow or decrease.
aside from that, you have to know that the tween rule this ****, so they will vote for tim and aaron.
dont know If you get what I mean lol.
Yeah, I guess I didn’t consider the fact that the younger audience would represent a higher portion of the online community. But, that’s not entirely representative of hardcore voters. At least, lets hope not.
This will shift majorly based on Tuesday night alone, then the following night. Exciting to see John Park up in the lead though.
GO GIRLS!
Exactly!! =]
LOL @ The Myspace numbers.

i do not think it would. i’d follow him (her) coz i like him, but when he messes up on stage, i won’t vote for him. or at least that kind of rationale
