I thought the same thing that Simon said before I even heard him. While she sang the song quite good, it seemed sort of boring. It sounded like a dinner club performance. With her hair-style this evening, she looked very old.

The audience really seemed to be into her performance, but to me, it was sort of “meh”. And I am a big fan of hers, but this performance didnt do anything for me.

while it was not one of her best it was certainly better than a lot of other contestants in previous rounds…she had a not-so-sensational week, that does not change all of her other superb performances…gosh haha

I dunno, I’ve been a Melinda fan from day one, but I am starting to get bored. I think she is an awesome singer, and I love her personality, but I am starting to get a little bored. I think she needs to sing more current songs. I still really like her, and I think she is by far the best female in the competition, with Jordin being second.

I think Simon said it just for the sake so he doesn’t sound repetitive. But it really is time for them to criticize her because no matter how fabulous she is, there’s always room for improvement.

I love this girl and I always wait for her performance week to week. But the downside everytime is that the judges keep saying the same thing every weeek: she’s talented but humble, her technique is impeccable, etc. Simon may have great vocabulary for insults, but he is definitely not creative when it comes to praises.

This must definitely be a week where watching the Idol’s in motion makes a big difference, because just from listening I think this was a phenomenal performance. Usually Melinda bores me, but here she pulled back her vocals to make them curvy and seductive in a way only hinted at previously. The subtlety won me over in a major way. Definitely my favorite tonight.

Melinda and Blake will be in the finale, although it ought to be Melinda and Jordin. I think the worst thing that could happen for Melinda would be to win AI and get tied up with their obligations.

I suppose it’s just my personal preference, but I can’t remember a theme night I disliked more, and that was more boring. Plus, it seems to me that the contestants this year have been awful with their song choices no matter the genre. Can you tell I think this season stinks?

That was really nice! So smooth and really sung well. HOWEVER like sjzodic and candle602 said, she seemed way too old for American Idol. The stylists aren’t helping her and neither did the song choice. I think part of Melinda’s confidence problem…and I think that it’s genuine…is that we think she’s cute but she doesn’t think she’s pretty. Note her balking at the idea of being sexy. She needs to get in touch with her inner lust monster and seduce us. Did I really just write that? I better get back to work.

Melinda did well last night. Some folks are just ridiculously petty and illogical. Other contestants sang nervously (i.e. choppy vibrato), sang offkey and cracked while hitting high notes. None of these things happened to Melinda. It doesn’t matter what music genre she sings. She knocks it out the park everytime – with ease and professionalism.

Got to agree, she’s one of the best vocal performers to appear on any season of Idol. She always completely commits to the song. Style, control, quality, she has it all. Last night was like listening to Anita Baker. Really good.

I loved it! Melinda did a good job and she was a joy to watch, too. I’m actually happy that Simon criticized her, since that hopefully makes all her fans to call like crazy…
But it’s like Melinda is being criticized in a whole different category than the others. If the others can carry the tune for a change or sing a couple of exceptionally pleasing notes, they get credit for that. When Melinda’s voice is in perfect control, her notes are in tune and she entertains a huge crowd like no-one else, it’s just good.
Thank god Paula and Randy can see the light!

uhhh , there has been alot beter vocal performers on this show then her , don’t get me wrong i think she has a great voice , but i doubt her cd when she comes out with one , will be as good or sell as well as chris daughtry , carrie underwood , kelly clarkson , or possibliy blake’s. i dunno therse just somthing about her i don’t like.

This was actually one of my favorites of Melinda’s. I think she did a great job. Very sultry performance. It’s hard to choose songs for a latin theme since the majority are in Spanish and most of the contestants don’t feel confident singing in Spanish. I think this song choice was perfect for her. I loved it!

I love her! I love her! I love her! My God, that woman could sing the ingredients from the back of a cereal box and I would still listen. She is the best vocal talent ever to grace this graceless show. I thought no contestant would ever thrill me as much as Elliott Yamin, but this woman has changed my mind. She is what makes this show worth watching.
