Danyl Johnson sings Your Song by Elton John on The X Factor

Yes! He hit the first note! Go Danyl! He sang the Moulin Rouge version apparently (I think). Go Danyl, for the win!

I love this song <3 one of my top 5, and this version is my fave. He did good, his voice doesn't have a very interesting tone though.

Ugh. This is what’s so wrong with shows like Idol and X Factor. The original song is sung with and phrased with subtilty and this is just bombast. Singing does not need to be about glory notes, melisma, and screaching. That’s kitch. I like Danyl, but now I need to go listen to Elton to cleanse myself. The bit about the kids was spot on.

Danyl is the only real performer on the X-Factor. You need to see through the performances he is forced to produce by Simon and his creative artists. They are the ones making him belt out big numbers, as they thing that’s what the public wants. They are manufacturing a certain sound, look and behaviour which they believe will sell, denying the artist his true and natural talent. But Danyl is raw talent, and he’s the best so far.

Actually if you listen to Elton’s version, which is great and I love it, but if you are musically trained, you would notice the flat notes there. His performance is original but not perfect. But it’s not about that anyway. It’s about originality, passion and sincerity and a basic knowledge of how to sing, which both Elton and Danyl have.
Danyl shouldn’t have to sing Your Song the same way as Elton. He has to make it his own and make it original. I think he did that.

Mary: He said in one of his videos on the site that it was the Moulin Rouge version, so I don’t believe he made it original at all.
