I have to be honest, Rickey. I’ve always enjoyed your blog because you seem to genuinely be a nice, sweet voice in the sea of negativity that characterizes the Idol fandom. However, as of late, you seem to be becoming increasingly bitter, especially about Adam Lambert. I’m not a Glambert-maniac or anything, but I do feel like you’re being oddly harsh and, honestly, mean about the whole thing. It’s kind of disappointing, given your track record. I notice that too Starmie. Maybe its because he’s selling more than Kris or something? Jim C. even mentioned in an article he wrote that Rickey thought this AMA performance was going to end his career before it started, but it doesn’t look that way. Its a bump in the road and a learning experience, which everyone goes through.

This is a great song! I don’t know who turned it down, but they should have kept the song. He should release this single and not the FYE single.

Anyway, it’s interesting this is a Man to woman (“Babe”) song that’s being sung by a gay male. I find it hilarious. And then I thought about Elton John and his open gayness and the songs he sings/writes, and it’s not about romance….it’s about Marilyn Monroe and Circles of Life. Interesting.

To all those people mocking Adam’s skin/appearance – why don’t you all post photos of yourself here, seeing as how you must all be supermodels to be able to pick on how someone else looks?

Regarding Adam’s AMA performance, I too think Rickey’s being mean about it, and harsh. I accept Adam’s statement that it was almost 11pm, that other performers had done risque things in their performances (Janet Jackson and Eminem especially), but Adam’s the only one being attacked. I personally don’t think there was anything wrong with what he did, there is a double standard and people should leave him alone.

I saw Adam’s face up close after the AI concert in Indy. His skin looked gorgeous. He has a very small patch of roughness on his right side, which this photo seemed to capture and intensify. For some reason, the lighting makes his skin look worse than it actually is. He’s really a beautiful man…with a beautiful voice!

I saw the interview on CBS. I think he was a tad too unapologetic. LOL–some people ARE baby-sitters, Moms and Dads and they just clicked Adam off. LOL at the Kris fans trying to rationalize that Adam’s sales are higher because the album was under promotion at Amazon for a couple of weeks. Newsflash people: those sales are not counted in the final week’s totals. Any sale under 50% of market value is not counted. (The album is back up to 10.99, by the way.) The figure also does not count the international sales. Double the figure that is released next week, and that is the actual number he is selling worldwide. So yes, he is selling more than Kris AND making more. And no amount of mean spirtedness by Rickey can change that.

Marie Ruffin, Elton’s usual lyricist, Bernie Taupin, is straight. Unless a song is about a specific thing, like Matthew Shephard (“American Triangle”) or AIDS (“The Last Song”) they don’t shape the songs to reflect Elton’s sexual identity.

I thought the performance on Letterman was very good, too. Letterman didn’t let him talk and that’s good. (His CBS interview is still grating on me.) Besides, Letterman is in no position right now to negative comment on anyone.

His sales figures will be interesting. Adam will have his fans no matter what he does or says, but from reading lots of the blogs, etc. I think he has lost more than he knows. His AMA performance totally pissed or turned too many off.

I was in our Walmart last night. His CD is selling for 9.88. The guy told me he had put up 20 on the new arrivals rack and there were still 19. And–it’s a college town.

Soundscan requires the location they are sold from, units sold and the price at which they were sold.

To those complaining about fans buying multiple copies…….if the albums are purchased together,it will only be counted as 1 unit sold.

Dig for the info on Soundscan yourself under sales procedures.

Projections for Adam’s CD sales are in excess of 200,000. Both his Facebook page fans and Twitter followers numbers have increased since Sunday night. This is GOING to blow over folks! Adam didn’t committ career suicide, just as Madonna didn’t, Elton John didn’t, or just about any of the old style wild rockers didn’t! I think some of you guys are going to be surprised at how well he is going to do. I understand fully how you feel. I think that if Adam really had the makings of a superstar, then he would’ve been snatched up by the big record companies long ago.

He had to go on American Idol to get some face time, and the AI machinery in turn used him as a pawn in their show in order to stir up excitement and make lots of money.

This is how I see it.

I see no star in the man. Just someone who can sing and dance. There’s a million of them in Hollywood and New York.

Hannah, don’t be so fast to make assumptions about State Fairs. As a matter of fact Elton John HAS played State Fairs. In 1973 he was at the Iowa State Fair, just 3 years after the Jackson 5 was there. The Rolling Stones played the San Antonio Texas State Fair in 1964. Both Bob Dylan and Katy Perry played State Fairs this past summer.

I’m sure there are countless others, but that’s what I found with a quick Google search. Fairs are part of what artists who are just starting out do and Adam is just that. His fans may think he’s above it, but it was a viable possibility prior to the AMA’s that was probably lost.

Hi Sharon. I surely did not know that EJ had ever done a fair. As for the others, I don’t think they are too terribly “shocking.” And I DON’T think Adam is “above” performing in any place…but for all the complaints about his sexually charged performances, I just don’t seem him ever doing something like that. His act is not going to be for the kiddies. Idol is funding a huge tour for him, and I just can’t imagine it will include a fair of any kind.

On the other hand, we’ll probably see Kris Allen at a lot of fairs over the next six months or so…those might be the only people willing to book him before his career fizzles completely. Not hatin’ on Kris, he’s cute as a bug, but I just don’t think he’s gonna make it.

I guess it’s all a matter of what you consider “making it”. Kris wanted to try to make a living at singing before he gave it up and got a real job. I seriously doubt he’ll ever be a shoe salesman again. LOL! He’ll be just fine. Whether it’s state fairs, bars, or huge arenas, he’ll be performing and making a living doing something he loves.

Adam on the other hand already thinks he’s a big rock star. IF that doesn’t work out for him, he’ll be devastated. Especially if he fails because of his own dumb moves and decisions. I’ve seen many wonder why he hadn’t already “made it”. I’m beginning to think his ego has been a hindrance in the past and likely will be in the future. He needs to stick to the singing and listen to those around him who know a whole lot more about the industry than he does.

I thought Fantasia was a brilliant performer with a “good” voice, but I knew she’d never be a Beyonce. I thought Taylor Hicks was a joke, and well, he pretty much proved that he was. If Kris ends up with a sleepy but steady career then good for him…but I can almost guarantee that he won’t…I don’t believe the boy has it in him…and 19/Jive’s patience is thin…they don’t care about the fans or how much the fans LOVE their favorite, they care about the MONEY. LOL I’ve never seen so many “professional musicians” as I do on these boards, but OK, if you say so who am I to challenge.

My point is that even Taylor Hicks is still making a living performing and I believe Kris will too. Idol gives the contestants a fan base an artist can only dream about. Those fans tend to remain pretty loyal. No one can take away the fact that Kris won Season 8 and that alone will keep him in gigs as long as he wants to perform. Since he also writes music I think “the boy” has little to worry about whether it’s with the Idol machine or with another recording company.

I follow Adam on twitter, and he has asked his fans at least twice, to go buy Kris’s new cd. The guy is loving, humble and kind. He is also brave and strong in his own self confidence and there isn’t a damn thing wrong with that! I have seen several clips of his rehearsal for the AMA awards, and “the kiss” & “oral sex” simulation were not included. He told the truth when he said he got carried away. Good decision? Probably not, but he’ll survive that easily as the future will prove. And for those of you making fun of the fact that he once suffered from acne…how small and cruel of you! Do you want to make fun of Ray Liotta and Seal as well? His scars can be erased and treated with laser teatments and other procedures, just like Ray Liotta did to mimimize his facial scars, and his were 10 times worse than Adam. Hey guys… We should all start beating our girlfriends / wives / boyfriends, because apparently it’s MORE OK to beat the CRAP out of a woman than it is to artistically put another man’s face into your crotch region. Or at least GMA believes so.
