Michael Slezak interviews Adam Lambert on Realite regarding the AMA scandal and fallout.

There is one thing I have issue with in this interview. Adam says in the end: “That’s my thing. And if people don’t get that by now… where have… I don’t… have you seen my album cover?” and then: “Don’t take me so seriously people, calm down.”

Hopefully it will help Adam deal with the situation better if he realized that:

1. Not everybody watched the American Idol TV show — so he shouldn’t assume that everybody knows “his thing”.

2. Not everybody watched the American Idol Tour over the summer to see his “sexy act” — so he shouldn’t assume that everybody knows “his thing”.

3. The American Music Awards was his chance to showcase himself and expand his audience beyond his 200,000+ followers on Twitter who profess to “getting it” — so he shouldn’t assume that the AMA audience knows “his thing”.

When news broke that he was cancelled from Good Morning America — a lot of people who never saw him on American Idol only knew him as that guy who did lewd things at the AMAs — not the great vocalist he was on Idol. That’s not an anti-gay conspiracy — it was his fault.

And with regards to taking him seriously. How can he say that when he is complaining about discrimination and double standards? Those are serious topics that are coming entirely from his camp. Regular people lose their jobs, are ridiculed day to day, etc. because of discrimination — and so yeah, if we all just didn’t take him seriously, he wouldn’t even invoke discrimination? He didn’t give a damn after the OUT magazine interview right? And now all of sudden his is invoking the gay politics which he refused to touch just a couple of weeks ago? That’s the double standard.

So after this interview it’s all about being “gay” when a few hours ago it was about “artistic expression.” This really needs a Rickey TV rant… maybe this weekend.

PS. And what exactly is “his thing”? That he is a “sex machine”? That’s the image he wants?

The fact that he can’t even admit what he did was wrong makes me respect him even less than I already did after that performance, and I didn’t know that was possible…

Rickey makes a lot of sense. From my standpoint, Adam is desperate for fame and he’s everywhere and he knows he’s getting the attention. But he’s not being smart about his remarks, and constantly hammering it home that “I’M GAY I’M GAY”. All this media hogging is going to backfire. People are going to get sick of him and his gayness.

I actually agree lots with adam on interview 3. They didn’t blur what he did to a woman but what he did to a guy they did. The kiss shouldn’t be blurred. The crouch thing should have not been done and he agrees he got carried away but the kiss that wasn’t bad it was just natural nature to a gay male. I agree with him and I see why he is mad about what is going on with the double standard. It is a double standard. I just hope he can get all of this back to his vocals and I feel that his performance with the Good Morning America was a great awesome performance and that should let the people of the world see he is good musically and he is owning his mistakes so people lets all just support him and move on past this AMA thing!

Rickey, I appreciate you calling Adam out. You’re saying what a lot of us are thinking and feeling. As I have posted earlier, I was a big Adam supporter, loved everything about him, until he started sticking his foot into his mouth over and over, insulting people like myself because I dare to dislike his AMA act. I don’t need a babysitter, and I GET IT, but don’t want it anymore. Maybe he’s not cut out for prime time and maybe he is exactly what Nick Digilio of WGN/Chicago said about Adam during the AI season (when Adam started getting all the buzz)…he is a fraud. On AI, Adam was all about being respectful when not everybody liked or ‘got’ his performance (Ring of Fire comes to mind, something I absolutely loved but remember Simon saying What the Hell was that?). So, was that all an act?

Your rant is self invoked. Adam isn’t making anything out about being gay. thats how you see it because you didn’t like his response to the OUT magazine. the double standard with CBS blurring out Adam’s kissing picture and not Madonna/Britney’s is real.

As far as non Idol fans knowing him he’s been on covers of magazines, and on entertainment news outlets, etc. He’s already busted the Idol bubble. It is those who are obsessed with Idol (like you) that are “upset” with him. Adam has received a lot of support over this, especially from other entertainers. Not everyone is against him like you and VFTW. Even his fellow Idols support him.

And it doesn’t look like his sales are suffering either.

if you actually listened to the interview you would understand that he doesn’t want to be taken too seriously, but if the occasion arises, he will state his opinion, even if it is about a serious topic such as discrimination. He explicitly says that he doesn’t have an agenda and is only reacting…

Where is all this disdain for Adam coming from? Yes, he made some mistakes at the AMA’s, but I think your sudden hate of him runs deeper than that. Is it because Kris’ CD isn’t doing so hot? Is it because you don’t like his fans? I always thought you were classy and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt, but you have now sunk to the level of Perez Hilton and VFTW. That’s REALLY low, Rickey!

Adam is a person who makes mistakes and has feelings just like everyone else. He’s HUMAN, and he’s new to everything. Sometimes people forget that about celebrities when they rip them apart and attack them. This interview with Slezak is very honest, and I applaud Slezak for not judging him and showing him some respect even during this debacle. Can you image the pressure Adam is under right now? He took responsibility for his actions and tried to explain where he was coming from.

All this hate he is getting… it just makes me want to give him a big hug. You know he needs one right now. He may appear to be okay on the outside, but it HAS to be chipping away at his happiness.

Look Rickey, I’m gay too and there are times when I don’t want to discuss gay politics (It’s hard to talk about especially with people putting a lot of different color into everything that you say) and there are times when I do. kassandra, if u listen to the album, there are a lot of effects put into the songs, so if he performs it live, if he wants it to sound close to the original sound, he’d need the effects, but I have no doubt in my mind that Adam can sing really well, with or without the effects, maybe he just wants everything to be perfect.

And if u really want to be technical about it, just using a microphone is an effect in itself. Just sayin’

My thoughts (would just like to share)…

Each one had their own opinion on this.. but seriously.. Adam is turning into a cheap and lame Madonna or Lady Gaga copy.. sorry to the fans.. I love him too.. voted for him in AI but he’s losing a fan simply because “his entertainment or music value” is something we’ve already seen but something we don’t need right now…

there is a lot of unnecessary stuffs in his performances that has no added value to what he can really do.. i’m not saying not to be flamboyant.. it’s his stuffs but as an audience you’ll know when it is just too much ..
i dont even feel the chills from his voice anymore.. only the chill for how scary his acts are (i have to save my kids from it)..

in his interviews before.. he said he wants to share his talent for the world to see but, it has already been overshadowed by all the publicity stunts he had put up.. turns out that it’s limited to the “who can understand” community.. which i think is composed more of “just got intrigued” people than those who actually love it..

he can be different.. he can separate himself from the “idol” pack and make himself millions of dollars in sales (with the help of those who worship him no matter what).. but man.. losing the respect.. is something he’ll regret.. he cannot please everyone.. but he has the decision to gain the peoples respect to his craft..

By the way Madonna may had been the rebel icon.. but her works are really piece of art and not just cheap “i kinda like it , it’s hot stuff”

At some point they have to tone down a bit cause at the end of the day .. when you’re 30+ old.. fame is nothing if you’re just putting up that face and no one there beside you to take you seriously for the person you truly are..

He has the legions of fans who could appreciate him for the sexual .. gay thing he is saying but i’ll bet none of them see how empty and unhappy the guy is inside that body..

If he’d just be comfortable at his skills and skin.. people will remember him as someone of high value (relevant) and not just a year or two of tabloid item..

I can’t believe some of you are coming here telling Ricky what he can or can’t say. This IS his site and he’s more than entitled to his own opinion. He never said he “hates” Lambert, but in the cyber world of Idol, that’s what any negative comment becomes.

Adam has a LOT to learn if he stays in the entertainment business. Acts come and go in a heartbeat. The worse thing you can do is intentionally alienate potential buyers of your cds or worse yet concert tickets. I wonder how many concert sales of 3, 4, or more flew out the window when he shoved that guys face in his crotch???? Lots of parents sure won’t be buying for their kids now and might not even be able to go themselves without taking them. That’s a good thing for the parents. Now they know in advance that his show is X rated. But it sure isn’t good for any longevity or profit for him. And his “I’m not a babysitter” remarks he’s making in every interview seal the deal that that’s the way it’s gonna be.

Adam isn’t the first on who had the advantage of a huge following on Idol and blew it “doing his own thing”. Just look at Taylor Hicks. He too fought and stayed true to himself in his music choices and it didn’t go well for him, did it? The AI audience sees the contestants perform a variety of music styles, but usually knows by the end of the season what to expect from them after the show ends. If they didn’t see the preIdol videos on the internet, I’m sure they were shocked by the AMA performance. Plus people who, like Ricky said, aren’t Idol watchers only saw a vulgar performance by a guy who, THAT NIGHT, couldn’t carry a tune.

Someone said he gained 12,000 followers after the AMA’s. It could have been 120,000 with a standout performance.

Like many who’ve commented on here, I enjoyed Adam’s “Idol” vocals and am less about the dance music, but I don’t hold it against him for not doing what I want. It’s HIS voice, HIS career. He did what he had to on Idol to get what he wanted; now he’s doing what he likes. But guess what? The vocals are still on his album. So I skip over a few tracks that aren’t my favs, or maybe they grow on me the more I listen to them. I guess I’m just not that invested in Adam fulfilling my expectations.

Adam shoved a guy’s face into his crotch on national prime time (7-10pm CST) TV, not cable or video or @ a concert-big difference.. No one, male, female, bi, straight has ever done something like this before, especially in the blatant & almost violent way he did it on national prime time TV.. Find an example if you can.
What he did was wrong. He should apologize & own up to it.
Blaming it on “adrenaline” & saying his “artistic freedoms” are being persecuted is just incorrect on his part.
Saying that if a woman did it she wouldn’t be censored is a lie plain & simple. (Janet Jackson WAS reprimanded for boobgate, & the TV station was heavily fined), More than a million complaints were registered for that too.

Madonna/Britney kiss was on Cable. FCC has no enforcement rights over cable.
FCC has guidelines & he didn’t follow them, plain & simple..he’s lucky he hasn’t had any legal actions taken against him.

ABC had to cancel his appearance on GMA. They knew what he had done went against FCC rules.Also, Adam “added” all of his extra moves while “in the moment”. Choreographing a simulated blow job and acting like you were hand playing a girl’s vajajay on regular network TV is not art. It is not cable.

He is a liar when he said it was “ab libbed”. You choreograph for days and that was not ab libbed. He is a lying.

I get it…and his story….his is a wannabe Lady GiGi…(and I realize it’s lady GaGa)…all gimmick…he proved his incredible vocal gift on AI and now he retreats to a ridiculous caricature of a musician. Lady GAGA likely needs that, Adam doesn’t. I still much prefer Kris Allen’s low key, honest delivery. Many say Kris is not original? I say Adam is not. He lacks confidence to rely on his own ability. What do we make of everyone’s (over)reaction now that ABC/Good Morning America find it perfectly acceptable to book Chris Brown to appear on their show to interview, sing, and promote his album? All Lambert did was sing a sexy song and simulate some risque moves after numerous other performers did likewise. Brown perpetrated actual violence on another human being– and he gets a forum to explain himself and boost his record sales? What is wrong with this picture?

Much a-do over something trivial! When our soldiers are dying trying to bring ‘FREEDOM’ to other countries, some of the people on here want to get all worked up over one artist’s interpretation of his song. “He shouldn’t be allowed to do that!” And Oppie thinks Adam is a liar. NOT TRUE! I have seen several different clips of the rehearsals for AMA, and he didn’t include the 2 instances that some of you people are so worked up about. It is as he said, he got carried away trying to interpret and give a good performance. Whether it was good or not is in the eye of the beholder. Put this in perspective people! It’s not the end of the world! Get over it! Adam is a very kind and loving, and humble guy that just wants the freedom to be who he is. A performing artist,singer, and entertainer. If you don’t like him…then don’t follow him. Turn the channel!

I never thought Adam was “Disney-esk” but conversely, I did not think (prior to AMA) that this would be “his thing” either. I spotted Adam during Hollywood week. I pegged him as an extreme talent. I figured as Idol went on he would push the envelope. I feel naive. I actually thought Adam exuded sex, but in a mysterious, suggestive and puzzling way. For both straights and gays. But, now, I see Vaudevillian sleaze. If that is his thing–well, it’s his thing. But, it just is not mine. After his “Ring of Fire” performance, I felt that sexual thing–but after his AMA performance, I felt had. After these interviews, I feel pissed.

No, QuietStorm, it is you that needs perspective. Soldiers die to protect our freedoms and one of those is of expression. It is Adam that needs to realize what he is wasting.

There are some of us that do not care for a musical act that makes sex into a 4 letter word. Interpretation? ROFL! That is what the entire act lacked. There has been so many lewd musical “artists” that you have not been exposed to those that can actually do a “sexual” performance and have it fly over a kid’s head. Adam’s act had parents scrambling for the remote. Artistic is a term used too loosely. Smelly clubs are full of these type of acts. A dime a dozen.

GLORIA….You have your opinion, and I have mine. Some people thought Elvis was lewd. There are plenty of people like you that want to be the moral police and tell everyone else what’s acceptable and what’s not.
