OK, this is a lower number than what we posted yesterday. USA Today posted some numbers for the Idols and Kris Allen will finish #11 this week selling just over 80,000 copies, officially giving Kris Allen the lowest opening-week sales of any American Idol winner.

Adam Lambert’s early recording album Take One sold a respectable 11,000 copies.

Update: Here are the numbers from Billboard:

1. John Mayer “Battle Studies” – 286,000
2. Andrea Bocelli “My Christmas” – 185,000
3. Norah Jones “The Fall” – 180,000
4. Casting Crowns “Until the Whole World Hears” – 167,000
5. 50 Cent “Before I Self Destruct” – 160,000
6. Justin Bieber “My World” – 137,000
7. Michael Jackson “This Is It” – 96,000
8. Twilight Saga New Moon Soundtrack – 93,000
9. Carrie Underwood “Play On” – 86,000
10. Taylor Swift “Fearless” 84,000 (note that this album debuted last year at #1 when David Archuleta released his album which debuted at #2 — wow, Taylor, beastly!)
11. Kris Allen “Kris Allen” – 80,000

So Taylor Swift beat both Kris Allen and David Archuleta and is dating Taylor Lautner. Ugh. We’re rivals! LOL

Overall, American Idol does not produce a lot of “stars”…they produce a lot of singers who go on the road and open State fairs….but it’s interesting and I ask this question because I’m perplexed.
The hetero women are throwing themselves at the gay guy, Adam; and they’re ignoring the straight married man, who IMO is cuter.

How come?

Perhaps Marie, you are missing the point. 1)You assume they think the married one is cuter. 2) You assume they are “throwing themselves”. and 3) This is the day of a new generation and the mechanical parts are irrelevant. Even Kris gets that. Can you post a photo of you and YOUR hubby so we can determine your criteria? Or perhaps you’re even “Mario”?

I hope everyone that voted for Kris out of spite is happy with this. This is THEIR fault. They voted never intending to buy a CD. Their hate led to Kris’ embarrassing debut. His 2nd place finish would have at least led to pity buys.

Oh, and BTW, Marie Ruffin..

Because the gay guy is hotter “IMO” (and many others) more entertaining, and a far better singer.

The other guy is boring..(I grew out of Ryan Cabrera years ago) and I find him as attractive as a small puppy.

Time will only tell who has the longer carrier. I mean seriously it’s Adam who gets all the commercials, free time and his CD only cost 99 cents with coupon code…

In a year the novelty wears off and Kris will be still around.

After all Kris is a songwriter and can arrange awesome tunes.

I’m just an observer folks. I’m not wrapped up in AI like the rest of you. I’m not OBSESSED. I just find it interesting that the guy who’s married, cuter (IMO) and is hetero doesn’t have the devoted female fandom like the gay guy. I mean it was the gay guy who had women throwing panties at him.

I think Kris is a talented guy but I think a good chunk of his votes were not-Adam votes. I’m talking about votes like those mobilized by Danny Gokey’s preacher and others like him who had no interest in Kris’s music and only in not having the gay Jewish guy win.

And as far as publicity goes, no was 19E could hope to match the whirlwind of promotion Adam got for himself, starting with his Rolling Stone cover.

The album is not selling for .99. There is a promo on Amazon only. It’s a strategic marketing move to compete with units after Amazon sold so many at normal price. They could have done that with Kris too but chose not to. This means he did not make his projected targets and likely his fan base is saturated there already. Adam, however due to the controversy and media can attract alot of sales at a lower price. This is a marketing correct move, not any sign of a “problem”. Sorry you don’t understand how it works.

I doubt they will push for a 2nd single for Kris. But I’m looking forward for Jive to drop Kris so he is free to sign a label that won’t take him lightly. He should fire 19E as well.

I think Kris’s marketing or his team managment do have bit problem.Kris obviously way handsome than adam,but never show out this part and himself seems also have problem showing his sexy.perhaps he think he is merried?on this point.he is not profession in entertaining busyness.even elvis have to show his physical attraction for selling when he was young.michael jackson have to surgury fix part of looking.kris has his card but never played.kris more appeal for young teenage girls during season 8.but on tour.he turn to gay-friendly public image.kradam everywhere.this didn’t help sell himself as kris allen,more help adam to gain fan.my opinion.his image suppose goes to sunshine and layback young lad.but his single goes to blue feeling sunset broken heart prince.this make his image totally goes to two different way.overall season 8 was full of contradiction.hard to identity them on music or image.

So few of the comments have anything to do with music. Basically just people from each camp slinging mud at each other. If anyone can offer an opinion about why Kris’ CD is not selling as well as Adam’s is I’d love to read it. I mean for mr Kris was kind of an average performer on Idol. He had a fwe great moments. The Kanye/Heartless cover might have been his best moment. Whereas Adam has several great performances. Tears of a Clown was epic as well as Black or White and many many more.

Adam has that “thing”, the intangible celebrity quality that no other Idol has had so early on. Some have developed it (Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson) but Adam had it from the start. Even so I have not heard either CD but the first release from Kris was adequate but honestly kind of a forgettable tune, and watching him play guitar in front of his band was less than exciting. Which is cool for singer/songwriters that tour small to midsize venues and play shows but not the stuff that makes one a big name act, selling out stadiums.

Disappointed to hear it was so low; not really a fan, but if anything, I’m more worried for the image of the Idol franchise in producing stars in its winners.

I find that statement so fascinating. For both David and Kris, you love them and find them sexy based on non-physical traits (nerdy and innocent refer more to personality). However, in the case of Adam Lambert, you chose two physical things in order to find him un-sexy…pock marks and caked on make-up. What if David and Kris had pock marks? Doesn’t that mean you wouldn’t love them or find them sexy? What if they got scarred in an accident? Would you love them less? It just seems that you hold Adam to a different standard, when in fact, he’s just a guy who is doing the exact same thing David and Kris are doing…trying to make “it” in the music business by doing what they do best…granted, all three do music differently, but the end goal is still the same.

Adam is urging his followers on his twitter site to buy Kris’s cd. Why can’t we all hope for both of these guys to do well with their music careers? They’re both great and talented guys. And for ‘the Ricker’…how very small minded, shallow, and cruel of you to make fun of Adam’s acne scars. Perhaps you want to make fun of the actor Ray Liotta, and Seal as well.
