Sean: you forget — Adam is NEW, he’s just starting out. It’s ok to be controversial — but after you’ve made the top spot.

His PR people & managers are probably sleepless tonight wondering how to correct this. His performance was bad, the song is bad, the choreography was bad.
What happened was a set-up. The introduction — the most anticipated singer — was over expectation and he failed. If you get a build up like he has, the cameras always on HIM, he walks the red carpet, he’s on magazine covers — trust me, his career is in the sewer and they’re damage control going on right now.

And one last thing — everybody in show business know it’s a cutthroat business, CUTTHROAT. You have no friends, even though people say they’re your friends (look at Paris, et al). I loved the performance! Great job Adam!

This was on at 11pm at night, so if the whining parents were concerned so much about what their kids were watching, the kids should have been in bed by then anyway! Last time I checked, Monday was a school day.

These people calling up radio stations complaining that he was too vulgar and how they were so disappointed that he has taken this road….you people make me sick! He is one of the only ones out there with that amount of passion and excitement in his performance, and I for one like it. So all you soccer moms who can’t handle a little sexuality on your set, turn the channel next time, it’s that simple. Go buy your Taylor Swift cd and don’t buy his. Just do us all a favor and stop your whining.

And yes, I do like Taylor Swift, and Whitney, and Jay-Z, Rihanna, Kelly, Carrie….I like them all. But I also have an open mind to someone trying to push the limits. If it had been Lady Gaga or Madonna doing that performance and kissing a girl, everyone would be saying how great it was. Simple-minded double-standard jerks.

Okay. The Finger. I don’t get this. I reserve my finger use for two occasions. One, I am teasing one of my friends and they know I am kidding. Two, when I am really really pissed off, such as getting cut off in traffic, and I m not able to tell someone directly. I realize that is just me, but why would Adam need to flip off the AMA audience? That isn’t shocking. He looks angry. What was going on? Did the execs know he was going to “bird” everyone?

Some people are going to love it and some are going to hate it. From what I’ve been reading, most hated it. Count me in that group.

Vulgar, tasteless, and the singing was awful. Not a good first showing to such a huge audience. I think was a really bad career move. CD sales will tell, I guess.

And flipping the finger to the audience? What the heck was that for? Very disrespectful. I think that shocked me the most. He’s nothing but an little snot showing off, not wise enough to know where the line is. Color me not impressed.

All of the great artists have been critizied during some point of their career. It goes with the creative territory. Some people think it’s too this, some people think it’s too that. At least Adam has a lot or people thinking something. I think it was over the top fantastic! I love how I never know what he is going to do. I bought his CD today. Nothing on youtube can do it justice. BRAVO, ADAM! The song ” BROKEN OPEN”, literally left me in tears. It is so hauntingly beautiful.

Does every performer have to kiss someone belonging to the gender they’re attracted to? No. Only the ones that want to cram their sexuality in your face, and those are usually the homosexuals. It isn’t enough to do it in the privacy of their own homes, they have to make you aware of it, and make sure your kids are aware of it, and so forth. That way you’re too busy fighting the urge to vomit to realize the song sucked. It’s bad enough the guy soiled the image of rock legends KISS forever (one fruit on the stage is enough for KISS, and Paul Stanley hasn’t been replaced yet). If we can’t just keep it away from the kids until they find out on their own if they’re freaks of nature…please.

And I mean HORRIBLE. Was it entertaining? I’m sure to some people it was and if he actually sang well, I may have respected it a little. But, since it was totally vulgar (and honestly, I am not at all a conservative person… there’s just a time and place for that kinda thing) AND he didn’t sound good, I was not impressed. I’m sure somehow he’ll sell a gazillion albums, but I won’t be buying one, that’s for sure!

I think its so funny he flipped everyone off. If he had given a show-stopping performance he *may* have been able to get away with the fcuk you at the end.

He’s not on the same level as Madonna or Lady Gaga, who have some artistic value to their acts and can sell the performance with their talent. You can sense they are being true to themselves. This just seemed a desperate attempt to shock with no value or artistic integrity.

This was not very well thought out, he engaged in an Old hat sort of way. He could taken the same material and refused it was elegant and beautiful storyline that would have shocked us but in a good way. Giving me the “Finger” is insulting and so old, I am not shocked by it, it just reeks of a juvenile boys thinking he is being wicked. Well, it was in bad taste, he was screaming, screeching and vulgar. It was not artistic, it was not innovative, all this trashy crotch grabbing, overly sexual simulated acts have been done time in memorial. Madama did it “Like a Virgin”, Britney did it with her sex tour, Janet did it in her “Nasty Tour”, but this was over the top, kissing men and women and pushing the guys head right into his crotch was way to much. Gosh, based on his American Idol performances, this was the worst. It was like he forgot how to sing and connect with the target audience. AMA was a combination of teens, and adults and mass America that is pretty conservative.

Aww, I am really sad to say that I thought it was terrible. I really like Adam. He has a beautiful voice, and is usually a great entertainer, but I really hated the song, and the choreography, and didn’t think it showcased his voice at all. Any rocker that can scream, could sing, or scream that song. I could care less who he kisses or grabs, but together with a bad song, bad choreography & bad performance, it was just a mess. I had such great hopes for him, and am just sad. I hope he will get a second chance to do better.

Adam was still the best performance of the night regardless of a fall and some pitch problems. The Network knew exactly what was going to happen so anyone with complaints should be mad at them not Adam. And being it was at 11PM all the youngsters shouldn’t have been watching. My favorite TV show, Nip/Tuck on FX, is A LOT more shocking than Adam’s performance and contains nudity on a weekly basis. It airs at 10PM yet you don’t have this kind of controversy! Adam’s show was NO DIFFERENT than the two Madonna shows I saw in Las Vegas. Adam’s new album is fantastic with every track being a winner (and thanks so much for making this a perfect CD for my water aerobics as well.) This 54 year old hippie absolutely adores Adams voice and will be front and center at his next live performance in my town. And I’ve been married to my husband for 27 years so don’t write me off as supporting him because I’m gay… I cheer a glorious BRAVO for his AMA performance. Now THAT’S entertainment!

Adam didn’t focus on his vocals at all for the performance, I’m guessing he mainly wanted to go for the tried and true “shock and awe” tactic. In a way it worked, everyone is talking about him whether it’s good or bad.
After watching it a second time though, it’s really not that bad. I guess I know what to expect. Also, the simulated bj wasn’t as bad as crap I see on the news daily.

I am so tired of reading the argument “well, the kids should not have been up watching the show – it was 11pm – they should have been in bed” etc. I realize that a lot of 18-25 year olds don’t remember a time when watching a music awards show did not include people flying through the air and landing their naked bottoms on other people’s faces, or slutty girls kissing older slutty girls, or, now, overly confident American Idol contestants sticking people’s faces into their crotches. I am tired of reading the arguments, but not because I don’t agree that kids should not have been watching the AMAs period. I regret that kids cannot watch the AMAs and shows like it, and that parents and kids cannot sit down and enjoy an entertainment show anymore (with the exception of American Idol, at least for now.)

There used to be a time, a long long time ago, when watching these music awards shows, at least on the networks, were a really big deal, and kids were allowed to stay up late, even on a school night, to see, for example, Michael Jackson sweep the Grammy Awards (I remember – my parents let me stay up to watch the show – and what a show it was.)

I just saw at AOL that Adam Lambert had been recently deemed the featured AOL Kids Music artist – did he miss that memo? Is he so obtuse that he does not realize who it is who voted for him and who might have been buying his CDs? The AMAs were full of American Idol contestants. It is perfectly understandable that the same parents who allowed their kids to watch AI also allowed them to sit through the AMAs.

Lest Adam forget, he made it as far as he did on AI because he toned himself down – that performance when he came out looking like a fresh-faced Kurt Russell propelled him to the top for the rest of the competition. As great as his voice is, he would not have gone very far if he had revealed his true calling on AI. Maybe Adam regrets not being true to himself and already feels trapped – if so, then I feel sorry for him. But he was very foolish with this AMA performance. It is ridiculous, too, for him to scream discrimination. Sure, Madonna’s concerts are probably full of her own simulations of sex, but even Madonna knew better than to take it any further on network television.

What really gets to me is how everyone is scrambling to get the videos off of YouTube and other sites claiming copyright infringement. Please, there is plenty on-line that infringes copyright. It’s so blatent, If that was a brillant performance, it would have still been available everywhere with million of hits. It was the most anticipated moment of the AMAs with his face being showed all the time like he is some big star. He is not a big star he is new to the big label recording business. All he is is a runner-up on a reality TV show who didn’t exactly break any records while on that show & couldn’t even manage to win. He showed contempt in flicking the middle finger. What was that all about? This was watched by lots of people. This is the real Adam Lambert. He did it spontaneously because it felt right & when you do that, you are showing your true self, not the controlled person you want to play just to get accepted. He was always “acting” on that stage & acting like a really nice guy during the season. Some things are just in so poor taste & it isn’t funny at all. There was no artistry there just a big f’ing mess. Sure go buy his album because he’s Adam & as usual it’s okay because it’s Adam.

When I looked at some of his pre-idol days stuff & then took a gander at his website, I was so put off. Now he is showing who he is. He has no class & there is one thing the public responds to is class. Talent can only get you so far in this dog-eat-dog business.

If I hadn’t seen Adam on AI I would think he has no talent after watching AMA’s. I loved Ring of Fire and Mad World, but didn’t care for his song nor his singing on AMA’s. His performance was atrocious, and not entertaining. If I want to see porn, I’ll rent a video. Watching the AMA’s I expected to be entertained, but that was not talented, and it wasn’t entertainment. It was crude, and although I’m not permanently scarred, there may be children out there that were. Adam is not ready for prime time. Next time have David Cook perform the closer and you won’t be disappointed!

The parents of the children who idolized Adam should not be condemned for allowing their children to watch the AMA’s. However, I hope the parents turned it off when Adam started his sexual demonstrations. The person to blame is Adam, and no one else. Adam should have known better. IMO, he still doesn’t. His head is too big, and he’s not as good as he thinks he is. I would like to see Adam later when he’s a little wiser and a little more humble. He’s got promise, but he needs to be cut down a couple of pegs for his ridiculous excuse of a performance.

This was a very very foolish move on Adams part. This is AMA: a family, PG rated show, NOT an R-rated- Friday Night Gay Bar Special, and his performance was clearly R-rated. This kind of explict content/material is not meant for an event like AMA. This just may have ruined Adam Lamberts singing career. I think Adam is going to be doing a lot of damage control.

okay well first of all…congrats to adam for having the balls to pull something off like that. that performance definitely got the attention he was looking for. he knew that it was going to strike up some major controversy…and he did it anyways. he’s just being who he is and he’s not afraid to show it. I loved the song…and the entire album actually, it’s very ADAM LAMBERT. you gotta love him for who he is, either you’re a fan or you’re not, but don’t be surprised or have a freak out when things like this happen, because it’s what he loves to do and it’s what he’s going to do. just go with it. he was known on american idol for being a little weird and extreme, and now that he isn’t bound to their rules, he has the freedom to do whatever he wants, and he’s going to use it. don’t think this is the last crazy performance by him. he’s just getting started

Horrible performance. He is a shrieking slime bucket. Surely there are some decent gay folk who agree that the performance was vulgar and unacceptable. Adam Lambert has not helped the gay community, nor has the gay community’s praise and acceptance of this kind of “art” helped itself.

It was just to over the top. He tried something and it failed to much crawling, gyrating and screeching. And all the running around and trying to be something he was not. Maybe next time he’ll tone it down and he so a better performance one can only hope.

I can’t believe the amount of fuss over a 3 minute performance. I wish there was as much public fuss being made about the amount of violence that is on TV….ALL DAY LONG. OMG!! And about the food industry that laces food with sugar, salts, bad fats and chemicals, corruption in governement and by the heads of corporations, the exploitation which is STILL occuring in third world countries, the abuse of the environment etc etc etc. Seems there is a disproportionate amount of attention paid to something that has no real impact on our lives. Let’s get real people. Spend energy on things that REALLY matter!

I can’t believe that ABC and everyone got all worked up over the “vileness” of what they perceived this to be. Come on idiots. This was nothing what critics are making it out to be..!!
Adam is a performer for God’s sake. It is not like he pulled his pants down, or pulled someone else’s off or anything. Some of these critics must be today’s equivalent to KKK for up and coming music talent. My opinion? Down with ABC anyway. They are cancelling all of my favorite shows..(EASTWICK, LIFE ON MARS, DIRTY,SEXY,MONEY) and sticking UGLY BETTY in it’s place. I say boycott ABC, or let’s get a mega millionaire to create a network to take over all of ABC’s rejects. It would be a smash!!

Seriously? This is what all the fuss is about? I guess I’m not surprised though, considering it’s the conservative Yanks doing most of the complaining.
Granted, his performance may not have been to everyone’s taste but it was no more offensive than other PG rated programmes, surely (yes, even the Simpsons and Two and a Half Men include double entendres, sexually suggestive behaviour and people kissing).

Actually, it reminds me of the whole premise of the South Park Movie – that in the US it’s OK to be violent and expose your children to guns and other violence, but god help you if you dare use profanities or display “vulgar” behaviour.

How many of you conservative Yanks have participated in the early sexualisation of your little girls by buying them make up, mini skirts and bras (before they have even reached puberty), I wonder? How many of you have let your children watch PG movies unsupervised, or not monitored their internet usage?
You, middle class, conservative America, are reaping what you sow.

Send him here to Australia where there aren’t so many wowsers. Or morons with guns.

It’s time the double standard of televised sexuality was repealed. Britany and Madonna can kiss, Madonna can mock having sex with Jesus, dirty jokes are fine on network shows. Male-male sexuality should have the same acceptance as female-female. As for the performance – I love Adam; even when he’s not at his best he’s better than most. His voice has enormous range and sweetness, even though I’m not a fan of the high notes. And he’s easy on the eyes!
