Adam Lambert performance of “For Your Entertainment” at the American Music Awards / AMA.

Adam pulls on a dancer’s crotch and attacks a male band member with his mouth. The band member was one of two playing the keyboard. He also trips on the stairs and does a spontaneous roll, and loses the singing for a bit. He also smashes a female dancer’s crotch on his foot and simulates oral with a male and female dancer. He also gave the audience the finger.

This was very painful to watch.

I kinda loved it. I know everyone hates it, but being gay, I loved seeing him just make out with his keyboardist, and shove a dancers face into his crotch. I’m sure he’s losing some fans for that, but gay artists always have to play to the masses in the least sexual way possible, and it was kind of refreshing to see a gay dude on stage with no qualms about sucking face onstage.

Woah! That was sexual trip– I think he was really tryign hard to “entertain” and “shock” us with blatant sexuality. I had to rewind it a few times and was like WTF? It was Adam Lambert like I don’t think we’ve ever seen him before… We did think he was soft adn sweet, but he is showing us a really “wild” side now that he is not on prissy idol anymore. I think Adam has unleashed his fire. I would love to see him in concert with his full album and see what wild stuff he has planned on stage. I thought the choreography was really good, and that crazy mouth “rape” of the keyboardist as well as pushing some faces into his crotch were a bit indecent and I noticed the camera were quickly switching views to avoid too much on screen time to keep things PG-13.

I have been a huge Adam Lambert supporter since Idol, I loved that he was gay and had mad vocals.

But after seeing his performance on the AMA’s I canceled my pre-order on iTunes. That just totally turned me off. Sorry guys.

Hey, I’m all for him kissing and crotch grabbing of whoever he wants to on stage, but here’s my observation:

He always gets defensive about not making his music career about his sexuality, yet at the end of the day, it seems like EVERYTHING he does revolves around his sexuality. I find it a bit hypocritical when he talks about wanting his sexuality to “not be a big deal” or the forefront when it comes to his music but in his very first award show performance… Just something I noticed

That being said, I think he’s highly entertaining, and will be purchasing his CD tomorrow. It just looks like I can’t take what he says in interviews very seriously…

So at the GMA performance he will have to do a ballad and “make up” with the pearl clutchers and those who have consistently made Adam who they saw him as instead of seeing who he is. It was OTT but so was Bowie, Mercury, and a host of others who we now say broke the mold of the music of the day. Not saying that Adam will do that, to soon to say. But seeing who won all the big awards…it is refreshing (albeit a little eyebrow raising) to see something other than Disneyfied teen fairlytale production numbers. I hope the voice will prevail because it is flawlwss and the album is really really great.

I think Adam needs to rethink how he wants to present himself musically. Perhaps he needs to just tone it down, because this was too extreme (and I am a big fan!!). Also, the quality of his voice seemed off somehow. Maybe he was just nervous. Hope he does better on the GMA performance on Wednesday. Starting to get worried for him.

Don’t know why everyone is shocked.

Haven’t you seen his trannie pics and heard his pre-Idol stuff?

He only used AI to get publicity; this is the stuff he’s REALLY interested in; not singing rock or sensitive stuff like Mad World.

I applaud him for doing what he wants; yet don’t respect him for using AI and the fans he cultivated with that image to get what he wants.

And I know a lot of the Gay community is not happy with him- they want to live their lives like “regular” people and don’t want his outrageous behavior associated with their lifestyle.

I’m sure the performance will garner curiousity seekers and my help his sales.

Oh stop it all of you. Adam is proving a point. That he can be sexy and take it as far as anyone else. I’ve seen Madonna sex her dancers and no one has an emotional reaction to it. It is sex, it is honest. The number rocked.

Other singers come on and lip-sync the majority of the song. Adam sang live. And he danced. It was huge, maybe a bit bigger than needed to be. But it was still good.

I SO hope that people won’t turn not liking that performance into an anti gay thing…cause gay or straight, male or female I would have hated that. He has such a great voice…it’s sad that that was his first performance for non AI viewers to see. I know there’s supposed to be no such thing as bad press but…. I liked the youtube of “Crazy” from his Hollywood performances days, and if I was at a club like that, I probably would have liked it, cause you know going in to expect crazy things like that. But national tv is another thing.

Was I shocked? not really because I had already thought that Adam would take the oppurtunity to really make his mark,and he certainly did! Can you spell publcity boys, and girls? This was not on a cable TV channel. Doubtful that many parents put a guard on ABC. That was a Dick Clark production! On one of the major 4!

I won’t be shocked if ABC doesn’t get slapped for a fine on that fiasco. The “digital” simulation (stimulation?) was a tad too much. Eminem sounded like the Morris code–so much was taken out on time delay. I muted to see the lyrics and they, too, were edited. I thought that was pretty bad, And then Adam. Sounded like crap, too, to boot.

Somewhat of a wasted opportunity…Yes, controversial and shocking (shocking for me to see him to do this on ABC. I am not shocked when I see crotch grabs, pulling, or two men making out voraciously. That I am COMPLETELY fine with).

But it’s also the venue, right? This was his first big performance before the album. This will get people talking tomorrow but it won’t make the majority of the masses buy the record. I wanted him to blow us away with the vocals and the imagery. He failed on the singing side.

That’s a bummer for me. I hope he still gets the chance to do great on future live perf. He certainly did not lose me as a fan.

OK…I am a lover of Adam Lambert…an Adam Lambert lover…from day one. BUT, Adam did give the impression that he wants this to be about his music and not his sexuality. We get it about his sexuality, and no one is saying that he can’t play that up in a performance. But, I do think he really pressed it past a point that it didn’t need to go…just a bit, both with the girls and the boys. We did not need to see the face pushed in the crotch so violently or even at all. The S&M? Well, it is a song about that subject. Anyone who is a fan knows that. I don’t know if I was too put off by that, ’cause, IMO, I think S&M is goofy. But the blatant sex organ grabbing and the sucking of the face of his keyboardist could have been shelved. It took away from the song, of which the song is awesome. We did get black screened, because he flipped off the audience. I don’t know what that was about, but I don’t know if that is the impression he wants to leave the public with.

Basically, it was all a bit too much all at once to try and warm a worldwide audience to your type of celebrity. People need to quit saying it’s about homophobia or him not having the right to express himself sexually that others are taking issue with. I would say it was too much for a heterosexual performer. This is public television viewing, and some things can be reserved for more racier channels or the stage, where people have full choice. Adam does not want the imagery to take over his true artistry. Plus, he must establish if he wants it to be about his sexuality or about his artistry. With the performance tonight, he is sending mixed signals. AND all of the over-the-top action and choreography took away from him vocally. I will say this much. All of this is new for him. I am sure, as he progresses as a more established artist, the imperfections will be worked out and he will find that balance between being an “out” performer and being a vocal, visual, impactful musician.

Wonder how people viewed this who are not invested in Adam or Adam haters. People outside the Idol bubble have no clue who he is. If I had not clue that he rarely ever sounds less than perfect singing and that he is really a nice guy, after seeing this performance I might think… OMG this guy is so radical and OTT and just doesn’t give a #$%@ what anyone thinks. Yep I would check out his album to see what the deal is with him and well the music speaks for itself.

The kiss wasn’t “un-hot”, neither was the performance. I just think Gaga stole the show. Her “weirdness” is sort of artistic and intriguing, whereas Adam kind of made me feel like I was a voyeur peeping in on some S&M stage show (which wouldn’t be the first time… Amsterdam… memories *sigh*).

Anywho, I do agree with a lot of people saying the quality of his voice seemed a little low tonight, but I chalk it up to award show nerves plus SO much going on around him. He’ll do better next time, I’m sure of it

Waited to see it – thought it was ridiculous and the vocals were really bad, and he really overdid his tongue-wagging screaming throughout. Did not sound good and looked worse. And all AMA gave Kris Allen – gorgeous, as usual – was an award presentation. But thinking about all the overly produced, overblown numbers (some of which I enjoyed) — guys like Kris would not have been “exciting” enough for this year’s AMA. Gee — maybe America could have done with a little less “excitement”. Personally, Kris with a classy full orchestra behind him – or him at the piano would have been much better entertainment. Everybody go buy Kris’s CD tomorrow — it’s really good!

Been a great fan, will remain a fan, love his CD, but, really, did you see that fierce look on his face at the very end? I think he was furious with himself. He knows it didn’t go well.

Carrie Underwood has a troop of sexily clad women simulate a hand job on the microphone stand, and no one says anything. Lambert does it gay style, and really quite a bit more, and everyone’s freaking out.

IF he hadn’t tripped, and IF the person who choreographed that had been ejected from showbiz months ago along with whoever built that jungle gym for him to traipse about, and IF — well let’s just say that Adam Lambert could have done a much better job delivering the scandalous stuff. Could have pulled it off, maybe. As is, it was freaking awkward, which only highlighted the in-your-face sexual exploits even more.

He’s a pretty decent guy, but likes playing dress-up etc. Unfortunately it’s not “playing” or “dress up” for many who watched the show. He’s boxing himself into a stylistic corner, particularly now that his “coming out party” was so freaking awkward.

Well guys, Adam danced and behaved on stage according to words of a song. J Lo bumped on her butt alright, but he actually handled his fall well right to legs of a girl, besides it is difficult to sing, dance and make acrobatic moves on those narrow stairs. Singing was a bit lousy, I’d rather listen Fever together with Lady Gaga, but I think he chose this song intentionally. I have listen all songs from new album and I would give A+ to at least half of it. Producers, if they want to get a revenue wouldn’t allow stupid things live, therefore it was accepted prior to performance. So, it will be remembered. I am not shocked at all. UGH! Too calculated as a “shocking” performance — and it just came across as cheesy. I think he really screwed up here — his fans would have no issue if they went to a concert of his and saw a performance like this — but this was entirely inappropriate for the AMA’s, and I think the negative fall-out will be worse than the publicity he gets out of it.

The problem with performance was it was on an award show that doesn’t have a parental warning attached to it. The producers knew what they were doing, they put it at the end so that local affiliates could cut away to commercial, if they felt it was to their local standards, and not disrupt the continuity of the show much. ABC was just hoodwinked by 19/RCA and the AMA producers. I’m going to laugh if the FCC fines ABC over this.

I loved Adams performance. I love the song! From a dancers/performer perspective, I thought the choreography was great. Ive seen Madonna do all sorts of stuff on her stage that people went crazy spastic over and critiqued her for. Yet she stills grabs the attention of everyone. Adam will do the same. I love the album cover, I love the music and I love that he is doing his thing and saying F it! He wanted your attention and he got it! I loved him on American Idol and thought he was the true winner. When i look at performers I look at the whole package and what they will bring. Even the wailing was off key. People compare this with the Britney and Madonna smooch. I wasn’t bothered by the content of the performance as much as by quality of it. The choregraphy was a big hot mess, Adam didn’t sing as well as I’ve heard him..probably hampered by all the choregraphy.
He lacked the confidence and fierceness that we’ve seen.
He looked uncomfortable, stilted and nothing flowed well about the performance. Many of the moves and transitions were awkward. He even looked totally disappointed and pissed at the end of the performance. I know how he felt.
His sexuality ? I don’t care. Grab some crotches, kiss a guy/girl ? I don’t care.
Take a fall ? hmm..not so good…but human.
Not turn in a good performance ? Fail.
His performance was not up to par. He tried to pack too much in to one performance.
I appreciate that he was trying to do something different and he did, he just didn’t execute it well.
Honestly, he was better on the American Idol tour but then he had 50 shows to practice his performances.
It’s just one show. It won’t kill his career by any means. It is just a really disappointing showing on such a huge show.

I am actually embarrassed for Adam. That was a mess! I have been a huge fan and overlooked the S&M from his stint on The Zodiac Show… hoping he would grow into wisdom in the entertainment world. This shows he is all about his sexuality/gayness, not what he claims that it is about the music. He could have edited that performance into something similar but without the blatant bad taste and pushing the envelop so much. He probably was nervous because his usually great vocals were horrible!! Pretty lame for his “coming out” performance.

I understand about the double standard in male versus female entertainers, but come on! That was in really bad taste…. then again I feel Madonna is mostly in bad taste and Rhianna’s performance was ridiculously horrible! Adam should just sing with that great voice. I wasn’t at all shocked, either. This is the same man who wrote a song called ‘Rough Trade’. For me the problem wasn’t content – it was execution; and most of those issues were technically related (bad sound, badly constructed set pieces, confused staging). Had I directed that piece – I’d likely have pushed the envelope a little farther, actually. The lyrics certainly lend themselves to exaggeration. At any rate….I find myself looking forward to what Adam might have up his sleeve next. Whatever it is – you can be sure we’ll all be talking about it.

I heard people TALKING about this performance. Honestly, with the exception of the 2 face to crotch moments, it wasn’t really all that bad. Was very similar, as ADAM said – to what the BAD GIRLS of pop have been doing for YEARS! There was no nudity (ala Janet Jackson). It was just a burlesque show. Should he have been censored? That’s arguable, because this is a FAMILY show.

I’ve watched awards shows for years and it used to be that the whole family could watch. Over the years, performers seem to have felt a need to shock more and more and out do each other. I’m very open minded but I felt Adam’s routine was a bit much. Whatever statement he was trying to make was lost on me. Absolutely disgusting! However, what’s even more disgusting is ABC editing the BJ scene from the West Coast telecast. That’s why I try not to watch anything that is taped-delayed. It’s not fair to the West Coast viewers. If it’s telecast on the East Coast, it should also be shown on the West Coast. (Otherwise, use the seven-second tape delay in the East Coast to prevent offensive language or acts from being shown altogether.) Also, the other disgusting thing is that ABC and YouTube have basically gone on a censorship rampage by trying to prevent the video from being shown on the Internet. I’ll agree that it’s not suitable for children, but there are a lot more harmful things on the Internet that continue to be shown.

I’m glad I found the video on this website before the ABC lawyer-goons got to it.

I think sucked and not because of the crappy shock value attempts I’ve seen worse and it just came across as trying to hard to create a bad boy or girl image which is as over done as his over the top vocals that’s just out of tune screaming with bad pop back ground music. A forgettable performance even with the virtual sex acts which I think was just media hype to get some attention. No talent or originality just boring prefabricated over done shock plagiarism. If your going to try to be out of the box by imitation then try Pink’s lead and shock with original talent and performance.

The singing was terrible, the kiss too rough & rushed, and he can’t or doesn’t dance. Other than that, I could care less that he kissed a dude or that he’s gay. It would have been weird had he kissed a chick. The trip thing didn’t bother me. He’s human and he continued like it didn’t happen, which is what you are supposed to do. I did have a problem all of the rest of it. His singing was off pitch. Now, I loved Ring of Fire (it was my fav) and Mad World, so I know the guy can sing. I’m sure the huge crowd had to be intimidating, and he’s allowed one mess up. But pushing someone’s face into his crouch and giving the audience the finger–someone needs to mentor this guy…David Cook, help this guy out and teach him what NOT to do on stage, please!

I think Adam made some bad decisions. The thing is, I’m not so sure he would do anything differently. If he can’t learn from his mistakes, he might not have many more opportunities like this one. The live singing wasn’t as good as it normally is. And his trip was pretty obvious. But it made me LOL. And, maybe its just me, but the male dancer wearing hardly ANYTHING(the leather get-up) kind of freaked me out. This performance didn’t help Adam, it hurt him. It was tacky, gross, and not well put together. I don’t care about his sexuality, I’m all for him. On Idol, he seemed like a good role-model for gays to look up to, him pushing the limits and making a name and all. But this… this totally has me afraid of what he’ll do next. I was watching this with my parents and it was the most awkward 4 minutes and 15 seconds of my life. Plus, the make-out scene really wasn’t necessary.

I thought the performance was pretty poor. I don’t necessarily mind the sexual stuff – it is a sexual song – but it seemed a little over the top in a way that cheapened the feel of the whole performance. He was pitchy and kind of “flailed about” in an unattractive way. Though the sexual content doesn’t bother me, it was probably inappropriate for the venue, but as far as that goes, someone has to be pushing the limits, right?

Overall, consider me unimpressed.
