Kris Allen Review

Some American Idol writers have already posted their thoughts on Kris Allen’s new CD which is now streaming on AOL Music. The verdict has been overwhelmingly positive with some reservation, mostly on the lines of “considering how this is a rush job, it is surprisingly decent — which makes it amazing” (or something to that effect). Our job is done. Go Kris Allen!

Jim Cantiello of MTV:

“It’s not a perfect album by any stretch of the imagination. (Don’t you wish there was just one totally-acoustic song on there, Kris fans?) But as far as “Idol” albums go, it’s fantastic. Kris’ influences are loud and clear, yet the songs don’t sound like lukewarm carbon-copies or wannabe retreads. Most importantly, Kris survived the major label machine without having his likeable personality swallowed up. In fact, the self-titled album sounds so quintessentially Kris that calling it anything other than Kris Allen would have felt disingenuous.”

“Overall, most of the songs are decent, with a few real standouts that deserve your attention. And knowing how the Idol machine cranks these albums out so quickly, a decent album with a few standout tracks is something you should look into. The appeal of the album is that Kris isn’t trying too hard. He’s merely putting his spin on some pleasant music without any pretense about trying to reinvent the wheel.”

Brian Mansfield of USA Today:

“Kris definitely isn’t the type to overshare, but he is the kind of artist who’ll make sure he really connects with the songs he writes and the ones he chooses. Kind of like the guy in “Written All Over My Face,” except instead of wondering “Can’t you tell just by looking at me?” he’s probably thinking, “Can’t you tell just by listening?”"

Still waiting on Yahoo’s Reality Rocks, MJ’s Big Blog, TopIdol and Michael Slezak of Entertainment Weekly. But I think I know what they are going to say already.

VFTW gave it a good review???? 8^o

They usually hate the rest of the past Idol winner cds. That is really a compliment when VFTW gives Kris a good review.

I guess you can’t really put down good music.

Oh and I have “Let it Rain” on replay.

So go listen and buy it.

I’ve really never cared about any of the contestants after AI was over for the season, but I have to tell you, I listened to this and abosolutely LOVED some of the songs on there. I really liked “Is it Over” and “Let it Rain”, but my God, “Alright With Me” was just awesome, and that’s understating it. The only song I wasn’t too crazy about was “I Need to Know”. I have to say, I am totally suprised that I would like this, I for one am getting this CD when I see it in the store. I do think that a lot of people wait until they can physically but music at stores, so that’s why I don’t pay too much attention to online statistics.

I expected more from Kris. Mark me one disappoint maybe ex- Kris Allen fan. He’ll have to try to win me back with his next album — which I predict will not be with Jive or any Sony label. Sorry but this is not as good as past Idol winners’ albums — more like the people who did well enough to get a record deal but didn’t win. And certainly not as good as Kelly, Carrie, Clay, Ruben, Daughtry, Fantasia, Cook, Archie or Jordin’s first albums. I think it is on par with Taylor Hick’s first album — but will not sell 700,000 units like Taylor did.

All the songs sound the same. I just can’t make it all the way through. The only thing amazing about this CD is how bored I am listening to it.

This album is great. Kris’s vocals are warm and wonderful. The songs are catchy and I find myself singing them in my head throughout the day. Love them all.
Rickey you need to stop trying to help Kris with your stupid polls. They all start out with Kris doing well, (by large margins) then, they suddenly change to no-one liking his stuff. Why would someone who proclaims to think highly of Kris (namely you)put this crap on their site. Please stop your stupid polls.

OK. Gave Kris Allen a fair shot. Listened to it three times. Its just boring. A lot of the same. One or Two songs stand out because of their different tempo, but past that they’re not that good. Not an F, Not an A, I’d probably grade it an average C to C-.
