Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry said today that singer Steven Tyler quit the band following a recent concert in Abu Dhabi.

This news is significant because a lot of American Idol fans think that “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” is the greatest power ballad of all time.

Actually, I think a lot of people (Idol fans included) would say Alone by Heart (not by Carrie Underwood as Rickey has been posting throughout the site) would be the best power ballad of all time. I mean, Allison and Carrie made their mark with that. Gina and Rambaly were hot messes though.

@rachel9isfine: that was the real problem, they were doing shows, many well paid private ones, but not making any new music. I recently heard an interview with Joe Perry saying Tyler never had time to get together with him to finish up some new stuff Joe had started working on. Kind of sad, as I think of all the resurgent rock bands that have been releasing new stuff and showing the youngsters how its done, Aerosmith could have been the best of them all. Word is Joe is going to finish up the new tracks and put them out himself next year.

Hell, 61 with a broken shoulder? uh, I guess so he’s gonna quit. But shoulda told em. Shoulders take time and rehab for range of motion and i forget if he’s an addict but probably. So he’d have to be careful with pain meds and coming off of them.

Oh Rickey…everything does not revolve around American Idol. I love American Idol but Aerosmith has been around a lot longer than AI and they have been through lots of trials and tribulations. I’m sure that this is just one more. Lately, they have been having some trouble like they did in the 80’s. Here’s hoping they get it together.

As long as Mick Jagger and Stevie Nicks are still in Aerosmith, then Aerosmith is still a good band. And I thought Steven Tyler was the guy in Journey who was replaced by Arnel Pineda?

OT, sorta, but I just wanted to inform since you seem rather confused.

Mick Jagger was never in Aerosmith. He’s from the Rolling Stones.

Stevie Nicks was never in Aerosmith either, she’s from Fleetwood Mac.

Steven Tyler wasn’t the guy from Journey before Pineda, either — They’ve been through a few lead singers, but their first lead singer was Steve Perry.

I’m not trying to criticize, merely informing.
