(Here’s Noelle’s recap of tonight’s pilot episode of V)

V tells the story of an alien race visiting Earth, calling themselves the Visitors or V’s. They claim to come in peace and only wish to share and contribute to humanity. The V’s show up in our time of need, providing humans with new technology and medical miracles, wanting only water in return for peaceful cohabitation. Yeah, right. Some people welcome a new savior with open arms while others are suspicious of the V’s and try to resist. Based on the original V miniseries from the 80’s this new drama from ABC looks extremely promising.

The show kicks off asking the audience where we were when JFK was assassinated or on the morning of 9/11, letting us know that what’s about to happen will be a life changing moment in history. Everyone is going about their day as we’re introduced to our lead characters. Erica Evans works for the FBI with her partner Dale and she’s looking for her son Tyler. He’s your typical 17 year old boy. He’s very easy on the eyes. Disrupting this peaceful day, gigantic UFO spaceships start to settle themselves around the largest cities of the world. It’s very Independence Day and the guy in this scene agrees with me. The world comes together to await a message from these new visitors and while they wait..they seem to want to stand directly underneath the spaceships. I don’t know about you but if aliens invade, the last place i’m gonna be standing is directly underneath their ship.

The world gets the message they’ve been waiting for. They are the Visitors and their leader Anna lets the world know they come in peace. Wanting only to share technology and medical discoveries in exchange for water, the V’s seem like the saviors we’ve needed all along. Coming at a time when the world is practically falling apart their timing is extremely convenient. Who here doesn’t want universal alien healthcare? I’ll take it. Not all are so welcoming and aren’t afraid to show their skepticism. Protests against the V’s break out all over the world. Father Jack Landry is confused about his faith now that aliens are existing among men and he searches for answers outside of the Church. Many flock to his church for guidance and he warns all to be skeptical of who they place their trust in. Duh. Some people like Chad Decker, find they can benefit from the V’s. He can make his career as a journalist by getting an interview with Anna. Sleaze. He looks like a younger Michael J Fox. Tyler can benefit by getting a tour of a spaceship by a hot Visitor named Lisa. What are you doing?? She’s still an alien! Sheesh.

People like Erica, Jack and Ryan are resistant to place trust in alien visitor’s and wonder their true intentions. Smart. Ryan has a shady secret past and keeps getting phone calls urging him to come back to a resistance group that cost the lives of many people a long time ago. Yikes. Erica and Dale devote their time to investigating a link between the Visitors arrival and a possible terrorist plot. They end up searching an underground tunnel in Long Island (woot!) that looks like a Dharma Station. Erica finds a clue that leads her to a secret meeting. It’s the same resistance group that tried to recruit Ryan. These people seem like your run of the mill conspiracy theorists. They claim the Visitors have actually lived among us for years and have been plotting to exterminate us by gaining our trust. Looks like they’re well on their way.

The Visitors are actually a reptilian race that is able to clone humans and disguise themselves. Oh boy. The meeting is disrupted as a group of people infiltrate and start to try and kill everyone there. Erica is getting choked and we get a glimpse of one of the attackers. It’s her partner Dale. What the heck? She nails him with a pipe, knocks him out and cuts open his head. Blech. There’s reptile skin under there. He’s one of the Visitors. She (seemingly) kills him with the pipe. Ryan comes to save the day and gets cut in the process. Whoa! Turns out he’s a V too. They’re everywhere! Next time i’m in Wal-Mart i’m really gonna be looking at people closely. Ryan is what the Visitors consider a traitor. He’s a good guy who isn’t hostile like the rest of the V’s. Phew.

It’s like a bad game of dodgeball. The world is divided as people decide who to trust. Erica and Jack ban together to try and recruit a resistance and inform as many people as possible about what they know. That’s awkward for Erica seeing as her own son has signed up to become a peace ambassador with the Visitors. Oh whatever Tyler. You just want to get in Lisa’s pants.

I really loved this premiere. I saw the original miniseries as a kid and it’s nice to see an updated version. I also love getting to see Elizabeth Mitchell back on my tv screen. Juliet!
