Universal Republic Records has signed new rock group We Are The Fallen, it was announced today by Monte Lipman, President and CEO of Universal Republic Records. The new band is comprised of the original members of multiplatinum trailblazing band Evanescence, guitarists Ben Moody and John LeCompt along with drummer Rocky Gray, with enigmatic American Idol finalist Carly Smithson powering the vocal reins of the new group. Respected touring and studio bassist Marty O’Brien (Disturbed and Static-X, among others) rounds out the iconic fivesome.

The group is currently recording their debut album for Universal Republic in Los Angeles and expect to release it in early 2010.

  Heard rumors about a major label signing them last week. Apparently, the whole spring publicity thing and the promised release of new material every few months was just to get competitive bidding for EvanesenceII going. I guess UMG won over Sony, but then Sony distributes for Evanesence’s label.

  As far as the name goes, they wanted The Fallen, but some indie band out of Pennsylvania had the name and refused to be bought out.

  I love Carly Smithson. This will be interesting. Evanescence is also releasing their album in early 2010. This will be VERY interesting. I wonder if Amy Lee’s inner bitch will attack Carly and kill Ben Moody.
