Is he a close friend or something? If so, the best thing you can do is to tell him that it was a learning experience and that he needs to work on stage presence and vocal projection. SERIOUS VOCAL PROJECTION. Why isn’t he getting that ballads and singing them softly is simply boring.
You know, it’s because his entourage are not being honest with him. PLEASE, SOMEONE TELL HIM that he CANNOT sing every song the same each week. A BIG problem he has aside from the above is the inability to tell the story of the song. EUREKA here it is….His singing is MONOTONE. There is no variety in there. He has the monotone teacher at the blackboard syndrome,no conviction when he sings. It’s too lalala, I’m walking through a field of daisies EVERY WEEK. Common dude, you’re a guy, ground your weight and show some passion. It’s like he’s singing for a little girl’s sweet sixteen birthday party.
Rickey common now, would you deny a better singer a passing vote because of a sympathy vote? Do your friend a favour and be honest with him so that he can improve. I don’t think his entourage of friends and family are doing this. He needs to grow from this experience, not leave it having learnt NOTHING.
Dread having to hear him every week poor guy.

It is unfortunate that you see some of those comments as bashing. This is the problem. Rickey is awesome and so is his website. Honesty isn’t bashing. In order to improve, one needs to be mature enough and willing to accept constructive criticism. Sanjaya has potential, but he can’t improve (judges, who are in the music industry keep telling him)unless he knows what needs to change. I would love to see him bring down the house but he won’t last long if he keeps things up the way they are now so help him out.
Rickey himself entitled the picture above Save Sanjaya for a reason.

I like Sanjaya too. My daughter voted for Sanjaya about 30 votes but she kept getting that message that something was wrong with the phone lines almost every other call. That’s what happened with Constantine when he was unjustly kicked off. I know Sanjaya can do better I guess his age and nerves are n’t helping him.

I find it pathetic that common sense didn’t lead you to understand the point y33 was trying to make, which happens to be absolutely correct. The harsh truth, as agreed upon by the majority here, is that Sanjaya is out of his league. He never fails to look ridiculous and sing even worse, which is the truth that y33 was referring to. It’s pretty “unfortunate” that you saw it otherwise.

Get a hold of your senses and face the truth and stop saving Sanjaya just because of his hair. The kid can’t sing and it’s not fair to save him so those other few who can really sing gets eliminated.

The guys sucked big time tonight. That’s the kind of show you’ll get from eliminating the only unpopular person who can actually sing .. and that is AJ! If AJ is still on the show, he would have shown what it is to really sing, without being cutesy, without the round eyes, without the beat boxing, and without the shouting!!! He would have been the best performance of the night. Too bad Americans are all tone deaf and just based everything on background story and looks.

I could care less if Sanjaya is gay or if he appeals to gays, or he appeals to 12 year olds. This is a weak field of male singers but even by that standard he is getting his butt kicked every weak by people (Phil, Jared, Brandon) who turned in lousy performances. If people think he’s cute then put him on a sitcom or something, but he should not be on the show.
What really cracked me up is that with his hair straight like that he became for me the male version of Antonella Barba.

I just watched the tape and honestly Sanjaya really has a nice voice. He probably is very nervous and does lack the confidence he needs. I still think a Michael Jackson song such as ABC would suit his voice well.

I really like his voice, it’s very refined. He has great pitch and very round timbre to his voice. He doesn’t do the predictable GLORY NOTES at the end of his performances and for that he’s seen as unspectacular. I’ll be sad to see him go.

Awwww Rickey. I wish that i could say that i voted
for Sanjaya. He was so cute in his first audition but he just doesn’t seem to have what it takes. Wish he could belt out the vocals a bit more..cute hair though…my little boys thought it was hilarious that he likes to hula.

I sure do miss Elliott this season…and Sundance can’t seem to hold on to his bluesy vibe…Rickey, i feel like you seem to feel in the video clip of you voting for Sanjaya. “hmmmmmmmnnnnnn.”.

Sanjaya was one of the few that stood out for me in the auditions. I dont know if it’s nerves, but he just doesnt seem to be getting back to that point. Personally, I find him very likable and very sweet. I also think he has a really nice voice – and that this week he did try to take advice and do something a little more youthful. He still has a lot of work to do/catching up. I’m hoping that he’ll make it and improve but who knows.

Also – don’t go jumping all over people for their opinions. People like who they like for reasons you may not understand or agree with, and personal attacks are completely unecessary.
Especially RICKEY. He’s a doll for even providing this site for us – no one is making him do it remember.

You go, KATHLEEN! Like you, I loved Sanjaya’s audition but have yet to see that spirit rebound. However, I will say that he was much better this week than he was, while others are going in the opposite direction.

For all those that wanted Sanjaya to project…fast forward to approx 1:28 into the song and you’ll see what happens to his voice when he tries to reach for it in the chorus when he sings…”WAITING for a change”…his voice falls apart like a sugar cube in hot water. :/

His tepid vocals can barely make it through any of the songs he has performed…let alone be entertaining to anyone that is not attracted to any of his phyiscal attributes.

But I do oddly see him being successful as a model hocking toothpaste products or hair care products…or even appearing in the A&F clothing catalog.

When a performer makes you cringe or when he or she makes you feel embarrassed for them, there is no way he or she can be in serious contention to be an American Idol. Sanjaya has a nice voice, deserved to make the top 24, and he seems like a decent fella, but he makes me cringe and I feel nothing but embarrassment for him. I think he honestly is surprised that he got this far, never knew how tough it was going to be now that he is there, and is secretly wishes to be put out of his misery. Let us grant his wish this week. PLEASE!
