Ugly Betty – Blue on Blue – Recap

Ugly Betty - Blue on Blue

(Here’s Noelle’s recap of tonight’s episode of Ugly Betty: “Blue on Blue”)

Ugly Betty time! This week Marc is still on an Anti Betty rampage and wants to recruit Amanda and Matt to help make her life hell. Betty is out to prove she deserves her new job despite what everyone else thinks. She gets a tip on a story that she believes will really help her out. But this wouldn’t be a tv show if it went smoothly so of course this episode will be filled with tons of awkward ups and downs. Meanwhile, Daniel is still trying to find his way since the death of his wife and may have found a new source of support while Wilhelmina is still on the hunt for Connor and just may have finally found him.

Betty has yet to make an impression at her new job and she needs a big story to prove herself. She finds out that an editor from Dolce and Gabbana is transitioning over to Gucci and thinks scoring an interview with him will be the big break she’s been hoping for. Marc is a sneaky little devil and finds this out and naturally wants to sabotage her efforts. Betty the kind soul that she is, discovers that it’s Marc’s birthday so she gets him a cake. He’ll return the favor by manipulating her friend and ex boyfriend to go and ruin her interview. Oh Marc, you make it so hard to love you.

Daniel’s been having a hard time moving on with life. He’s trying to get help with some support groups but quite frankly he doesn’t want to be there. Who really would? Silver lining of a terrible meeting comes in the form of Natalie. She’s kind of a punk rock slash goth chick who’s recently lost her boyfriend. She’s played by Jamie-Lynn Sigler and they hit if off. She’s gonna help him get his love for life back and they break into a hotel pool to blow off some steam. Thank you Natalie for providing us with a scene where Daniel goes swimming. :) Daniel finally stops avoiding how he never got to say goodbye to his wife and talks to Molly for the first time since she died. It’s really touching how he expresses his pain and I’m almost crying over here.

Moving on from the tears, some good news. Connor is found in Bermuda. Woohoo bring on his beautiful accent please. Wilhelmina goes off in search of him to try and get back the money he stole from her. After countless efforts to track him down and just when we think we’ll never see him again…BAM. Connor sighting! He’s just as dreamy as I remember. They finally have the confrontation we’ve been waiting for and Willie is really letting him have it. You go girl. Connor however, wants her to run away with him and just might have convinced her with a passionate kiss. Sneak.

Betty gets her meeting and plans to meet Evan at her father’s restaurant. Marc finds out and manipulates Amanda and Matt to go to dinner together on the pretense that it’s business related. They show up at the same restaurant and this really can’t end well. Matt sees Betty with a guy and Betty sees Matt with Amanda so of course they both decide that pretending to be on dates is the right way to go. Betty trying to make Matt jealous is really awkward and she’s not doing a good job of being normal with the Gucci editor. She ends up making an idiot out of herself and ruins the interview. Sigh. Betty who didn’t forsee that outcome?

Betty’s pissed, Matt’s pissed, everyone’s pissed including Amanda who just found out she was being used. Matt and Betty are finally letting it all out. Betty vents her frustrations that Matt keeps sabotaging any effort she makes at her job. He agrees and admits that he can’t help it. He knows he’s ruining any chance that they have of repairing their relationship. Aww that would have been a really touching scene if Ignacio hadn’t just popped out of nowhere eavesdropping. So uncomfortable.

Yum. Matt brings Amanda a Black and White cookie to apologize for using her. Those are really good. Gotta love New York. Amanda and Betty are both fed up with Marc and Amanda gives him one heck of a smack. Maybe now he’ll stop being such a weenie. (Doesn’t look like it judging by the previews for next week ;) ) Things look like they might turn around as Betty and Matt exchange the hint of a smile. Let’s hope Amanda doesn’t get in the way…

First of all, excellent recap, Noelle!

Great work by the staff and Jamie-Lynn Sigler on creating this character – hardly recognized her. And yet she’s been on for only 1/2 an episode, and I already like her. The writers over at Grey’s could learn something from this show.

Speaking of, Daniel talking to Molly…wow. What an incredible scene.

Notwithstanding the hint of a love triangle between Betty-Matt-Amanda, great episode!
