Honestly, I don’t know what it means. I think you can say that the sales were not terrible, but not spectacular as well. I don’t know what this means in terms of his album which goes on sale next month.

Kris sold about 40,000 in the first week, so that was the “peak” of fan interest.

If you follow the link to USA Today, you’ll get the numbers of the other Idols. Daughtry’s “Leave This Town” left the iTunes Top 100 a little after “Live Like We’re Dying” but not after selling 800,000 copies!

What it means is that with 113,000 Twitter followers, roughly only 58% of even THEY bought his stupid download for $1.29. WTF. LOL almost double the Twitter followers than sales. It also means: 1) Idol lied – there were never “30 million” voters (or whatever they said)..OR 2) The wonderful fans couldn’t be bothered to spring the $1.29 for the tune. Nice either way. Or perhaps they don’t have the internet in Arkansas. I love it there, truly it’s beautiful but wtf people?

I’m sure all of the Twitter followers aren’t different people anyway. I’m sure multiple accounts are created for not only Kris, but many big names on Twitter. Especially fans trying to support their Idol and make it look like they have more followers. Nothing against Kris…I’m sure Adam’s 200,000 followers aren’t all different people either.

As for the number of Idol voters…hmmm. They said 100,000,000 votes were cast. Rabid fans of both Adam and Kris were texting thousands of votes each. I wouldn’t think I’m too far off base to assume that the “average” votes per voter could be as high as a couple hundred. So that means there was probably 500,000 voters or so. No way I’m believing there were 30,000,000 voters if Kristine is correct in her quote of what Idol has said. That’s only an average of 3.3 votes per person….no way.

So if I’m even close in my guess of 500,000 voters…and to make it easy, let’s say Kris won with just over 250,000 people voting for him. I wouldn’t think it’s out line to say that out of 250,000 people 63,000 went to iTunes and bought a download. I’m sure many more bought the pass and are waiting for the album….many more probably don’t even buy from iTunes.

I don’t believe for a minute that the Idol audience has increased like they want us to believe. I think the texting software has just improved to a point that it’s getting ridiculous.

the song is dumb, and doesnt fit him. it sounds like **** live cuz he always out of breathe singing the lame chorus. Its pretty obvious he got the interns at JIVE? and adam got the cream of the crop. Hopefully Gokeys ppl wont be so useless at helping and promoting him.

The blame really goes on Kris, he belongs in country. Had he stuck to a country theme thru idol, I think he’d be much bigger right now. His voice just isnt big enough for him to do what he wants to do.

If he’s happy in the end tho i guess thats all that matters.

I will buy his album… I, and most people I know, don’t waste money downloading singles, especially when they are included on an album.

I was afraid this might happen. The sad truth of the matter is that Kris won because A LOT of people voted against Adam for whatever reason. They weren’t exactly a fan of Kris’, but they didn’t want to see Adam win, whether it be wanting the underdog to win, rebeling against the judges, Danny fans siding with Kris, ect. This gave Kris the win, but it didn’t translate into sales because the people who voted against Adam aren’t interested in Kris’ music.

And then there is the fact that the single is pretty weak. It pains me to say that because I really want to see Kris do well, but the song just isn’t his best foot forward. Not only is it a remake that closely resembles the original, but it is very cliche. However, I still have high hopes for his album. It may not sell as many units as Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry, or even Adam, but I can easily see it going platinum. The American Idol Itunes pass will give it a boost as well.

@yawnnn I’m mostly an Adam fan, but I like to be fair to Kris too. I have to agree with some of what you say, but people need to realize that Adam is working out of two pots of money…the 2012 promotion work is totally different than his 19E pot of money. 19E really hasn’t done much for him yet, just like Kris. The magazine covers, the movie theme, Oprah, etc. have been offers made to him without the help of 19E.

I agree it seems like they could do more…especially for the winner, in all fairness to Kris.

To clarify my previous post. I don’t know whether or not Kris will have much commercial success, I was merely saying people who use itunes and download singles are still a minority of the people who enjoy music… as much as apple would want you to believe otherwise.

Ya’ll need to stop with your “everyone hates Adam, so they voted for Kris” theories… If anything, the opposite is true now. Media outlets and vocal celebrities have always wanted Adam to win, they gave the show to him before it was even over (after the child of God himself, Gokey, bombed so many times). So now we have media outlets completely disregarding Kris, or putting focus on the fact that his first single isn’t his own song, and his own label not supporting him before he even had any songs made.

Well here’s a news flash… Kris wrote the majority of his album; guess how much Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey are writing. I normally wouldn’t give a **** about such things, but everyone is insulting Kris for doing a cover, when most other idols (from all seasons) only sing other people’s songs.

Go take a brief listen at some Kris Allen interviews and you’ll see how much the interviewers emphasize the single was another band’s song, and how uncomfortable (lol) Kris gets when they do.

Back to the main topic. This doesn’t mean a whole lot… but that still doesn’t mean I think his album will fly off the shelves either.

Kris really needed a great song right out of the box as a way of “introducing” himself to those outside of the AI world. Unfortunately, he wasn’t given the right song. I’m not sure how much say he had in what song he had to release, but maybe he should have fought harder to release something that he either wrote himself or was easier to sing (not so wordy) or maybe had more melody. Hopefully people won’t judge his entire album based on this one song.

After living with it awhile and trying to warm up to it, I don’t like the single as a single and will probably skip it on the album.

It has some good elements but it’s just not there. The production is lousy.

It was a bad choice by Jive. I’m hoping the album is better than the lead single suggests.

I just don’t get it, didn’t Kris win Idol? Where are his fans & why aren’t they buying it? Certainly they must know that the single is out by now.

The song has been getting airplay, so really there is no excuse as to say that the majority of Kris fans don’t know that he has a song out. I want to know why people are saying this.

Whatever. I feel bad for Kris. I hope that this single does not represent what the whole album is going to sound like.

I can tell you why I am not doing Itunes. I do not have an ipod or MP3 player. I am waiting for the CD to have my copy. I suspect there are a lot of us out there. I prefer the CD. Kris’ fans are supporting him, just maybe not the way you expect. IMO he has made it to where he wanted to be and beyond. Where I live, it has not been played on any of the radio stations, so it has not hit everywhere yet. Apparently, when it does start somewhere new, it takes off, as evidenced by the huge increase in spins from requests. There are a lot of places that are not yet playing this song. The smaller cities wait for it to get higher on the charts, then once it does, they add it to their playlist. I do not know much about the music business, but from what I can tell, he is very on schedule with the way things work. Relatively few songs rocket to the top, most of them crawl their way there. New songs are change. It takes time. BTW according to a report on AMAZON dated last week, the numbers on sound scan are very good.
