Walmart Fires Employee for Chasing After Shoplifter

Apparently, Walmart has a “don’t chase” policy. “There are specific instructions as to what an associate can and can’t do during a shoplifting episode,” said a Walmart spokeswoman. The company prohibits employees from going after suspects armed with a weapon.

Josh Rutner an “asset protection officer” for Walmart chased a knife-wielding theft suspect across the store parking lot and was fired the next day. It is also a non-rehirable offense.

Attention Walmart shoplifters: run.
