Apparently, Walmart has a “don’t chase” policy. “There are specific instructions as to what an associate can and can’t do during a shoplifting episode,” said a Walmart spokeswoman. The company prohibits employees from going after suspects armed with a weapon.

Josh Rutner an “asset protection officer” for Walmart chased a knife-wielding theft suspect across the store parking lot and was fired the next day. It is also a non-rehirable offense.

Attention Walmart shoplifters: run.

Everyone on the street knows this. You have to watch out for the private security in the lot taking down your getaway car plate. Walmart relies on local law enforcement to catch their shoplifters.

Most retailers have a no chase policy, this is not uncommon.

I am a css at walmart and it is a great thing that policy is in place because it keeps the associates safe!

This is common policy for al retail companies. There are many examples ,but two I know of first hand ,About 6 years back security guard and associate in Phoenix area shot and killed after chasing shoplifter who took TV , Second one is in Kansas City area shoplifter was chased by a SAVON Drugstore loss prevention officer , shoplifter fell or was knocked to the ground hit his head , died from head trauma , guard convicted of involuntary manslaughte. One dead . one young LP associate’s life ruined over tube of toothpaste , yes a $2.00 tube of toothpaste . There are many more examples of why they have a no chase rule
