David Archuleta’s parents filed for divorce a month after Jeff Archuleta’s arrest at a massage parlor.

Jeff Archuleta and Lupe Archuleta will share joint physical custody of their three minor children. Jeff requested that Lupe Archuleta pay an approximate $349 in child support each month. The house in Murray, Utah, will be sold.

Sad news, but not too surprising. I just checked the back of David’s Christmas cd…Jeff is listed as part of David’s management team, sooooooo wouldn’t HE have more money than Lupe? Oh well, not our business anyway.

Read the paperwork filed over at RadarOnline. Seems Dadchuleta LIED about his income, among other things. What a dirtbag. His attorney even dumped him.

Jeff DID NOT ask for child support. Radar didn’t read the whole thing before stating something WRONG. The first 7 pgs are all preliminary stuff. Page 8 has the agreed to items laid out. Page 10, it states very clearly that Jeff is to pay Lupe the $349.

Radar needed to do some research and read things BEFORE they post, because now everyone else will just repost what they posted and be completely WRONG.

I find it interesting that everytime something really good is going on in David’s life (Christmas album) something bad gets posted about him or his family. hmmm They must just hold these things until just the right moment?

During Idol, he was the ONLY minor yet he was the one the media decided needed to be dumped on.

The article mentions siblings younger than David. Aren’t there four? Isn’t there a little girl named Jazzy?

I find it hard to believe what a wonderful person David turned out to be coming from a family that’s been on the verge of divorce since 2002. It is quite obvious that his empathy lies with his Mother.

I’m glad for his strong religous background that will help them through this.

I have read all of the 25 pages of court documents attached to the Radar article.

Yes, Jeff DID ask the court to grant him: sole custody of the 3 minor children, Lupe to go back to work for minimum wage so she could pay him child support, and pay him 1/2 of child care expenses, and Jeff’s attorney fees. — that is what Jeff asked for in pages 1 – 7 that were filed on his behalf by his attorney (Jeff is the Petitioner).

The pages after that are a new document in which they attempted to reach a settlement (that’s where it was agreed that Jeff pay Lupe child support.)

However, on page 17 is a copy of a document filed when Lupe changed her mind about the settlement (based on financial info she was discovering leading her to believe that Jeff was misrepresenting his income.) She filed a “Motion to Set Aside the Settlement Agreement”

There is no paperwork that indicates a final ruling was made and what the terms were. I suspect the negotiations are still occurring.

For the Jeff defenders – I have been giving him the benefit of the doubt. Not anymore. Unsolicited comments from people like Naomi Judd, Arsenio Hall, AI producers, official police documents from his ‘massage’, and now court documents that Jeff is divorcing David’s mother and hiding his finances!

Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

I do agree, however, that it seems the press discovers these things and keeps them in their files until something positive is announced – and then they release the ‘news’. But, the press wouldn’t have anything to report if certain people would behave.

I hope David, his brothers and sisters, and his mother will be OK after all is said and done.

I don’t see the media dumping on David. They are dumping on Jeff. And as far as “holding” these stories, that is not true. Utah is the most privacy oriented state in America. Even public court records are only available well after the proceedings are finished. And most of these delays are triggered by a request by one party. I think Jeff requested the court papers be sealed for the longest time allowed by Utah law.

Hopefully David and Claudia will be strength for the younger ones. Divorce is always hard on the kids. I was four and never really had 2face the ramifications & issues until I was nine…

Dumping on any member of David’s family is dumping on David because he is the public face of the family. People don’t understand that David loves his entire family and that includes his Dad. Just read the things he says about them. I read about people wishing David would divorce himself of his Dad and I don’t believe he will ever do that or it would’ve happened already. David is a very loving, loyal, and forgiving person.

People today still attack David because he is a prodigy, has an angelic voice, and talent beyond talent. So they nitpick him to death. I’m surprised he is still so funloving and happy.

Family problems should be nothing new to David. I read years ago in the NE that the parents had filed for divorce. Then, David won Star Search. I have to wonder where all David’s winnings and earnings go? I hope that his money is protected.

I think they’ll be fine this time. The parents were almost divorced in 2002 and only fell short by not completing the required counseling. This will be more disruptive, especially if the house is sold, and especially if the minors actually have to switch households every week. But David spent several weeks at home recently and that included a trip with his Mom and sisters and they all look fine and cheerful.

Divorce is never an easy thing to go through, I should know because in 1981 my mom had to raise 4 children under the age 12 and my sister had cystic fibrosis. I feel for David and his family and anyone that had to go it. It is never easy. David has his mother and other family members and God, his strong faith and values that will help him get through this.

no matter what mistakes have been made, Jeff is only human … and whatever ill is spoken about Jeff, that is not helping or supporting David. David would not be happy to hear anyone talk badly about his dad, even though he caused him pain.

Elaine, that is a really nice gesture to have a prayer vigil. Although I missed it, I am still praying for the David and his family.

Wow. Jeff just fooled everyone, didn’t he? I was so convinced that he was a good guy. Can’t you just imagine how this will affect David’s music? That is, if Dadchuleta permits any songs that contradict David’s image in any way. And what’s this crap about Lupe paying child support? Jeff’s such a big man, but he can’t even support his own family?
David should just dump his “father” on the street – but he won’t. Because David’s too good and it’s still his dad and he’s still his son. And no matter how much he may want to, David won’t ever be able to stop loving his dad. No matter what crap he puts him through – even if he lets him down again and again – it just won’t be enough for some one like David to turn his back on him. So they’ll continue to have a close father-son relationship and they’ll both pretend that it’s not awkward. But just because this thing isn’t quite bad enough to break their relationship, it’s still not quite acceptable enough for the wounds to ever heal. So they’ll be distant and close, broken and whole, and nothing will ever get better or worse. Because it’s Dad. Because he’ll still remember all the good moments and for some reason that will be enough.

Every family has issues and we don’t need to blow things out of proportion, after all that is not our business.

Divorce is a tough issue for all concerned. Obviously David Archuleta is very close to both his parents. So posting remarks on site on issues that really are not our business, is just not fair and immature, needless to say Mean. Leave this family alone to deal with their own issues. So please leave David Archuleta and his family alone. Focus on the positive NOT the negative. Every human being makes mistakes. As fans we should focus more on David Archuleta’s talents and new CD rather than his family’s issues.

to dan and valene: if you were subtley referring to my literary tantrum, i would just like to say sorry to you and anyone else i may have upset. i apologise for getting carried away in my comment, but it was driven by emotion. this issue brings back painful memories and i guess i just lost it a bit. i know it seemed i was judging jeff archuleta – but please let me explain. i don’t know jeff personally and therefore cannot judge him, i know that. at some point in my comment, i started lashing out angrily at a certain some one in my life that has caused me a lot of grief. i did not mean to use jeff archuleta as my focal point for a whole lot of tantrum-ing.

As I said before, Rickey was quoting specifics from the initial divorce petition, not from the revised one. In the revised one, Lupe gets primary custody (though custody is shared), Jeff pays Lupe the $349, and they split all other child-related expenses. The second petition describes a very even settlement.

I think the worst thing right now is that these stupid divorce articles have replaced press about David’s album and tour. David’s album release got 2 days of press – the release day and the following day, and then the divorce was his main news.

Over and over he has been screwed by news about his dad. First the Idol stage dad crap for months during and past Idol, then the massage parlor thing right as David’s tour with Demi started, and now the divorce news just 2 days after his Christmas album is released. It will be nice when it’s all settled (or at least out of the news).

And hey – buy David’s Christmas album! I was going to give you the listening link at AOL but it’s week of free listening must be up. So all I can say is that the clips do not even hint at how awesome the tracks are.

Thanks Jessica, but honestly your personal anger towards others, should not be posted on David Archuleta’s family issues. Every family has issues and needs privacy to deal with these, as they are very hurtful to anyone involved. So just think, if we took your personal issues and we all commented on this site, so that we can have something to say. Not fair and let’s focus on David’s talents rather than his families issues that sure definitely be dealt only between Jeff and Lupe. None of us were there, we don’t know all facts, just what we read…in the various sites…and honestly it is still an issue that is not our business.

Divorce is terrible. I know I went through one after 30 years of marriage. My husband cheated on me repeatedly until finally I had enough. I kicked him out. He had to get an apartment & so when the proceedings started, he had his lawyer request that I furnish his apartment regardless of the fact that we had two homes, the one I was living in & a beautiful fully furnished new lake home & that he made 3 times the amount of money that I did. I was to keep this house, he was to keep that house but even though he was cheating poor boy needed furniture for his condo. This is what they do–they try to get everything they can even though they are wrong & they make more, etc. Yes, I believe Jeff would ask for child support.

Jeff co-manages David with Ashoff & he therefore is entitled to a management fee. Usually managers charge 15% so I don’t doubt Jeff is seeing at least half of that fee. I also don’t doubt that he formed his own “management” company & therefore could pay himself, deduct travel expenses, etc out of his fee. It would be stupid if he didn’t. His own income would be jointly filed with his wife & he could conceivably hide the fact that he gets paid being David’s manager & have a management company. She might not know about how much he actually gets; however, she can ask the IRS for a copy. I did in my divorce. A lawyer can also Subphoena Jeff to supply that information. Jeff must think Lupe is dumb & wouldn’t even think about it. David earned slightly over 2 million last year alone, you can bet Jeff got a substantial amount of that. He deserves that as his “co-manager” but since Jeff spends a lot of time with David & traveling with him & managing him, what the heck is Lupe thinking he is living on? Where is the money coming from?

David no doubt loves his mother & his father even though he might not respect his father due to his little massage escapade or other things, but he still loves them. He knew their marriage was in trouble. It was basically postponed because David won $100K & Jeff & Lupe filed for divorce & Jeff said his business was not worth anything. David no doubt gave them money to help with their crisis. Money is a big stresser as we all know.

I doubt very much of course that David will take time off like the Enquirer says. Please, if nothing else David needs to keep working. I have no doubt he’ll buy his own home & his mom & siblings will move in with him. It’s what I would do.

Nobody is picking on David. He isn’t that special in the big scheme of things. There are reporter who do court reporting & these things are filed & it’s easy to find this stuff out.

btw … David’s Christmas CD is sooooo beautiful and heartfelt. His personal touch on traditional songs makes it so special and endearing. I really hope I can get tickets for me and my daughter and our friends to see him in concert this winter!

And his message in the liner notes brought tears to my eyes. He is truly a beautiful person both inside and out, which makes me believe all the more that he will come out of this family crisis a much stronger person.

I’ve never started celebrating Christmas in October but thanks to David, I’ll be listening to Christmas music every day from now till well into the New Year!!

Yes, everyone makes mistakes. But, a lot of people learn from them. The recurring, consistent, theme, to me seems to be an example of selfishness. Oh, and the massage parlor thing? doubt it was the 1st of such ‘mistakes’.

I wonder if there were bruises if everyone would be so quick to say forgive and forget a ‘mistake’. People were not very kind to Chris Brown for his ‘mistake’. Emotional abuse and intimidation are very real and very damaging.

Where is the support for Lupe in all of this?

I have no doubt that all of David’s fans are most sympathetic to Lupe too. Giving support for David and the entire family IS a way to show Lupe our support. We are all moving on, along with the Archuletas.
