Okay so I missed recapping 2 episodes of Heroes, but I’m back for tonight’s episode: “Hysterical Blindness”.

Tonight’s focus was on Peter, Sylar and Claire which on hindsight is how every episode of Heroes should be written. Peter is the lead hero, Sylar is the lead villain and Claire is our connection to HRG. I feel at peace with this setup.

Peter and his co-worker:

Peter’s storyline was about his deaf co-worker who had “hysterical blindness.” I was very annoyed that the focus was on a supporting character instead of one of the leads — her drama felt like filler to me. Her power also seemed lame: she was able to see sound as light. Whoopie doo. Peter absorbed her power when he saved her from an oncoming bus and he lost his superspeed. Then at one point they shared “a moment” together playing the piano and watching the lights. Sigh. Anyways, at the end of the episode we discover that the lights can be destructive if the sounds gets intense so there maybe a reason for the buildup to this power. Although, if you follow comics like me, you would immediately recognize that this is similar to Dazzler’s power or the White Violin from Umbrella Academy. Maybe she will play her cello in a fit of rage and level a city block or something.

A children’s choir in the hospital sang the theme from “Greatest American Hero” which I thought was cute.

Claire in College:

Halfway through the episode, I was shaking me head asking: What’s the point? Who cares if Claire joins a sorority. And we’ve seen this stalker girlfriend plot many times before. And then when I can’t take it anymore, a surprise answer: Claire’s lesbian kiss.

We also discover that one of the sorority girls was a spy for Samuel. She was responsible for killing Claire’s first roommate and all other kinds of evil deeds. Her power was invisibility.

Sylar in a County Jail:

Zachary Quinto doing his drama acting thing was really nice to see. So basically, Sylar’s body is mindless — since Sylar’s consciousness is locked up in Parkman’s brain. In the last episode, Sylar’s body as Nathan was murdered and buried. Sylar then climbed out of the ground as Sylar but without any recollection of being Nathan.

He escapes with the help of one of the interrogators and is found my Samuel.

A part of me still yearns for the Heroes of Season One, but if this is what we’re left with, I’ll just have to accept it. The pacing was really slow I thought, and the sense of urgency was just not there. I don’t know why the writers have opted for disjointed storylines again, when it’s been proven that this is not what made Heroes click in Season One. But this series has been passed on to too many people already, and I really shouldn’t be expecting more than what we already have. At least it’s better than the second half of “Villains”.
