Clay was very close to “Papa” and talked about him in “Learning to Sing”. A very heartwarming moment occurred when Clay sang “Beautiful Star” during a Christmas tour for him, Papa, as he and his family were “Bluegrass” singers & band. I’m thinking one of his uncles is in the Bluegrass hall of fame.

I was at the concert in 2005 when he sang to his grandfather in the audience. We were sitting near his relatives and I remember watching someone helping his grandparents. He loved his grandparents so much.

Listening to Clay on that tape, I can see how Clay might have made it in country music had he wanted to.

Thanks Rickey for posting this little reminder of Clay and his talents, and how Alzheimer’s affects families.

God bless Papa Aiken in Heaven & all the Parker/Aiken family at this very sad time. The passing of my own maternal grandfather was the first big loss of my life & I’ll never forget the indescribable pain. Others have gone after him in my family, but his death showed me what true love & grief was all about. Prayers to all affected.
