I love it. I was a little worried about the verses, because I didn’t think they highlighted all of the good things about Kris’ voice, but after hearing the version that’s on the Z100 site, I think that they did a pretty good job.

It’s very catchy, which will be good to attract the attention of those who don’t know who Kris is, and the lyrics are pretty good. The ending is incredible.

In my opinion, when you consider the fact that the album was cut while touring, and the first single is released only a week later, that alone is impressive.

That being said, I have listened to it only once and the chorus is stuck in my head, so count me as a fan. #livelikeweredying

Kris injected a sense of genuineness I felt was somewhat missing in the original. Loved that the song is so catchy…and that they amped up the alternative melodic line in the chorus after the bridge. Can’t wait to hear the songs he written on the album. #livelikeweredying

We can all have our opinions about the song – just because Kris sings it – doesn’t mean we all have to step in line and love the song. I think he could have done a lot better with another song. This is too similar to the original and does not display Kris’s talent. I think he needs to dump the guitar (which by now seems to be a security blanket), and just sing. He needs to break out and do something DIFFERENT!

Just my opinion – I am disappointed for 2 reasons: 1. why did he have to sing a cover song instead of an original song for his debut single?
2. Although Kris sounded great, the song itself doesn’t give me a WOW fact at all. I had high expectation for Kris because I love him and he is a great singer. And I know he can do a lot better than that. This song just doesn’t show him off.

A little unoriginal in that it is a remake of an existing song, but it was a good choice because it does sound like a song to catch on pretty big. I can see it in the top 10 category for a while. But Top 40 is just that, soon another song will come out and take the top. But I think Kris will have significant success with this. And it will promote his upcoming album which I am sure will please a lot more people. At least Kris seems to have some input and adds musically to the number. Gokey just got signed and is bragging about having 5 songs done by the end of the month. Not hard I guess when someone throws you a bunch of already prepared stuff and tells you to sing it. Job done! I like the song. I think Kris did a good job covering it. But it’s just a cover. Nothing more spectacular compared to the original. He mimicked how the original songwriters sang it. It is a good cover. But just a cover. It would be a karaoke version if sang on the AI show. As his first single. Not good enough.

For those who didn’t know it was a cover, it would have been a good first song. But it was a cover. I am disappointed. Why did AI do this to him?

“Jim Cantiello of MTV news interviewed Kris Allen this morning after he debuted his song “Live Like We’re Dying” on the Z100 Elvis Duran radio show. Kris says the team heard the song early on and everybody loved it.

The strummy, sing-songy tune had apparently been earmarked as a single for Kris since he began working on his post-”Idol” album back in May. Allen told MTV News, “[The song] was actually one that we had listened to really early on, and we kind of just fell in love with it. Everyone did.”

Also, “Live Like We’re Dying” producers, Andrew Frampton and Steve Kipner, co-wrote and produced the Natasha Bedingfield hit, “Unwritten”. Kris is working with “a couple different producers” including more tracks from the Frampton and Kipner duo. “I’m actually going to London to work with them again,” says Kris.”

Its not like it was a well known song. Most songs are covers unless they were written by the person who is singing it. You could say Before He Cheats is a cover because someone else already recorded it before Carrie did.
It’s not like he’s taking a big song like Poker Face and releasing it as his first single.

It is a bit annoying that people are going on about it being a cover. If it hadn’t been pointed out how many people would have known that, i for one had never heard of the script or the song before a few days ago. Having said that as soon as I found this fact out I knew people would use that against him so for that reason alone I was disappointed it had to be the first single but never the less I love the song, have played it numerous times and think it really suits Kris.

First, I am going to buy this single. But, I wish the background sound was not so loud-so you could really hear the qualities that makes Kris’ singing unique. If you have heard the early Elvis songs, then you know what I mean. Later in Elvis’ career, the background sound blasted over his voice. Anyway, way to go Kris and I am hoping this goes straight to #1. I am also hoping that Allison and Adam do well also with their CDs.

First off this song is not an original (no I’m not bashing, don’t get your panties in a bunch) the original song is by “The Script” & they’re amazing. Like seriously, I’m not kidding, you should check them out. If you loved this, then I’m sure you’ll love the original.

So..I think it’s okay…maybe it’s just me, but it annoys me that it’s a cover. I mean really, a cover for your first single? Like I said maybe it’s just me. Not bashing, just giving my opinion.

I really thought he would go the John Mayer/Jason Mraz route…oh well.

The chorus is catchy though! If it gets promoted right, it’ll make it into the top 40.

I was not invested in anyone this season to tell you the truth. I like Kris, voted for him on the final 2 night, but honestly, I’m not too crazy about this song, which will probably mean it will be a hit LOL. It was so fast, that I barely could concentrate on the words & about all I heard was “Live Like You are Dying” & the rest blurred by. Kris won me over with “Heartless” & he showed passion with that song & feeling, but this song is just “singing” & I can’t connect to it. It’s catchy I guess, but I felt “rushed” is as best as I can describe it. It doesn’t bother me that it’s a cover but I think they could have found something that was not published don’t you think? I understand the time constraints but these artists often don’t write their own stuff anyway (David Cook being the exception….), so that’s why I wonder why give fodder to his detractors so they can harp on that & they will. Hopefully Kris will do fine with this single.

Why are people whinning about the song being a cover? Jive didn’t have idol fans in mind when going for this single. Mind you all, The reality tv time is over and the goal fror Kris and his label is to catch a lot of fans outside idol bubble before the album drops. They need a catchy, radio-friendly and top 40/HAC/AC material. This is perfect. It’s only idol fans who wil go to youtube after learning it was a B-side for The Script and start posting nasty comments. The outside idol buyers don’t care whether it’s a cover or not. If they hear it on air and they love it, they’ll buy. Most of you whinning here will be following new contestants come next season, so sorry, you are not the target. So far, most of the media love it even when they knew it’s been a B-side.Radio stations who have done the mysterious artist thing with it reported that people are raving about it. Lemme start by saying, I really like Kris Allen! And I voted for him and was happy he won.

I started this song twice and had to stop it 20 secs or so in. This sound isn’t him. For me, the song was absolutely wrong. I just finished listening to the whole thing and I can’t believe this is the only thing they could pick for him.

Boy did Jive get it wrong. the song has done away with all the really nice things about Kris’ voice. where is that wonderful mellow tone that served him so well on AI. Sure the song’s catchy but it’s so copycat-sounding! There are portions of the song that sounded like James Morrison’s “You Give Me Something”, Rent’s “Seasons Of Love” plus other elements that just sounds pretty generic. Major FAIL in my opinion. If that’s the first single, I’m not so excited about his album. Sorry.
