Elliot doesn’t need bells and whistles to get our attention unlike the others. All he has to do is SING to make us all melt. Everyone else has to hide behind sexy outfits, light shows and stage antics. Elliot is the best voice for sure. Simon was so right about him being a master vocalist.

I’m on the west coast and too impatient to wait for the show. That said, after listening to the mp3, don’t kill me ey fans, but that definitely didn’t work for me. It is one of my favorite love songs too so count me disappointed. Maybe it was the arrangement, but the vocal was not appealing to me–it was too trilly and vibratoish for my tastes. And I know the song has a lot of sharps and flats, but in the beginning it sounded to me like he missed a few notes. I am an elliot fan. He did one of my 3 all time favorite AI performances with Moody’s Mood for Love which buys him a lot of good will in my book. It is a taste thing, and I don’t think I’m any better judge of talent than anyone else. But unless I hear it different when watching it, I won’t vote for this one. Sorry

Elliot just has the most versatile voice. He can sing any genre and it sounds like it fits. It’s natural. Everyone else tries, but in the end, you only think of them in really one way, (i.e. the rocker, the country girl, or the wannabe broadway star).

wow, elliot has come a long way since we first barely caught a glimpse of him in the audtions, when he was grouped with the brittenum guys.

i remember thinking that simon was wack when he said “this guys has the best vocals in ai history”.

IMO, the last 3 weeks elliot has totally raised his game, at the time when he needed to most. and for that i salute him. i hope he goes all the way to the finals.

I have always thought Elliot was a good singer (vocal-wise) but not a great singer because he lacks emotions in his voice. HE PROVED ME DEAD WRONG WITH TONIGHT’S PERFORMANCE. For the first time, a contestant on AI has left me speechless, in amazement.

Dood – I was thinking exactly the same thing while watching Elliott….he really has come a long way from the goofy guy singing with the Brittenum twins. He literaly made me stop and take a second look at the screen when I heard him singing…he was the only one in the group that was on the right pitch! He has definitely matured performance-wise. I remember him saying last week that he now feels like he’s locked-in to this competition. He really has turned a corner since last week.

It kinda gives me goosebumps and this mushy feeling when I think how I was able to watch him really grow as a singer on the AI stage just by being a huge fan of his from the start. Never watched amercian idol before this season, never voted for any contestant either. Some friends have questioned my “integrity” (being a music affectionado) and “sanity” for watching AI although some I’ve managed to convince that this guy is really something. This performance once again showed he RULED the stage – impeccable , flawless, hit every note like a true professional . I cheered so loud , I thought my neighbors might call the police , fearing for my life .

Wow! Wow, wow, WOW! I’ve loved Elliott from the very begining and he has given many, many great performances. But tonight he even managed to blow HIMSELF out of the water! This was without a doubt his best performance yet, and the best performance of the entire AI season, including all of the different contestant’s performances. Elliott is truly an incredible talent, a class act, and an AMAZING performer. Go Elliott!!

Ajay – you are so right. Acapella would have been phenomenal. I just got home from work at 10 – ran to the ‘puter. Brought up this site (Thank God for Rickey) found the number to call and starting dialing as I started the MP3, then I nearly fell out of my seat. I’ve been a fan of E since day one, but this performance was…words fail me. His voice is amazing and ever since he auditioned with this song I’ve been hoping he’d be able to do the whole thing. (Eat your heart out Christina!)

Go to http://www.internetcalls.com and right in front of you there will be a buttone that says Download Internetcalls just to the left of a NO inside a red circle. Click on Download Internetcalls and keep hitting Run, Yes, I Agree, whatever…….. It will ask you to enter a user name and your name and email address etc… Now you’ll have an account. TRULY NO WORDS to describe the essence of this man! He is a force to be reckoned with and all those naysayers got a glimpse of that tonite! 278 and 282 – Very true! I was also noticing in the audition video with one of the brittenum twins talking trash about a singer in their group – Elliott was in the back shaking his head. He’s such a good guy…

I sometimes enjoy katherine but she is like polar opposite in style to Elliott – she hams it up for the camera and overbearingly oversings and just is so “look at me” and “love me” whereas Elliott is, like you said, respectful of the music without ever faltering vocally. Granted, I don’t think Kat was as horrible as the judges made it seem like tonight – I think she did pretty well actually- but her vocal training doesn’t hold a candle to Elliott’s natural vocal ability and technique.

I am EXCITED tonight. Elliott did it to me. I voted for a solid two hours.

I liked the ARRANGEMENT.. But… I love Jazz and Blues and listened to Kenny Rankins version today and loved it but I Loved how Elliott sang it tonight. His look has certainly evolved into a Handsome Vocalist with a smooth even flow.

I know if he is off tomorrow night it isn’t because I didn’t VOTE and it isn’t because he wasn’t GREAT.

Amazing. His performances are really consistent. I have no idea why he’s been in the bottom three. His voice is just incomparable–there’s nothing like it. It’s a pity that America can’t recognise talent when it’s right at their face.

Let’s get Elliott up to Top Two. Winning AI would be more of an insult to his voice–he’s just NOT pop material.

Ajay: the lines are probably busy. Sometimes you get busy tone, sometimes you get “sorry, but the dialed number is not in service right now” etc. But don’t fret. Keep voting.

not perfect, i thought towards the end he faltered, it was quite a weak ending to the song, i think, but who cares! Even at his weakest Elliott runs circles around the others, even vocally trained Kat. I think his flaws make him special. We don’t need a polished American Idol, we need someone we can relate to, someone who has talent but is our Everyman.

I was calling from Canada, tens of times and both lines were busy. They sounded just like regural busy signals which whould prove calling from here is OK.
Elliot was amazing, vocally great as ever but his connection with song was at it’s best.
While watching Elliott’s tonight performence I commented to my son what somone said on this forum, he sings to showcase the song, not himself` this is what a true musician and artist is all about. I think people become a little tired of novelty styles ( shallow pop, rap, hip-hop) and yearning for genuine stuff. Those who like classical music always have that, thank God.
Elliott is an answer to that yearning.
I was also crying watching him tonight, so was my son ( although trying to hide it from me). It’s such a beautiful feeling to wittness a greatness and humility embodied in one person. Thank you, Elliott for being who you are and letting us to know you.

Kymell: No, it wasn’t his best vocal, we know he can do much better than that, but it was a great performance nonetheless. He managed to move a lot of people, make them feel. And that’s, I think, was his answer to Simon’s comments last week (which btw, I thought were meant more as reverse psychology than anything else)

He’s only 27, but his life hasn’t been exactly the bed of roses, and I think he put a lot of it into the song. His girlfriend obviously was there for him before we all took notice of him, and I’m pretty sure she was bawling her eyes out yesterday, because it’s such a validation to both of them. And with ten thousand people watching, he was singing the song to her.

So it wasn’t perfect, but it was better than that. It was real.

I agree with Randy…the arrangement didn’t show off his vocals. There was too much going on behind his voice. Where the Donny Hathaway version was more mello.

Elliott still deserve props cause even with a version like that, he still carried it.

All I’ve got to say is if Elliott doesn’t win this thing, the whole show is a complete joke, not to mention that we’ve wasted weeks of time watching lesser talented singers prevail over more talented singers. I like Elliot but when he did the Queen tune he said he had not heard Somebody To Love until that week, and now he’s gushing about bringing back “Donny Hathaway’s music” when it’s actually Leon Russell? And he was a DJ?

I went to the other contestant’s links and listened to their mp3s too.

And guesse what?

I realized straight after my last non-elliot mp3, i felt as if i needed an antidote quick, or my ears will feel so traumatised. I needed an antidote, and guesse what? my fingers just automatically click on Elliot’s link and before i knew it….Ahhhhh…ohhhh my antidote has worked like magic!

I really don’t know why, but with Elliot’s mp3, with Elliot’s voice i know i won’t have to listen out for any bump notes or wait in the wings to CRINGE at a misplaced note. Ahhh.. Thank God really for Elliot!

I agree… if Elliot doesn’t at least come CLOSE to winning, then Americal Idol (or America) is a superficially biased program that will spearhead the music industry of the notion “looks over talent.” Granted whomever wins will have talent… but if its not Elliot… then the best talent didn’t win. Sad to say… but I’m thinking he won’t win even though he deserves it. If artists like Justin Timberlake still exist… it’s hard to see Elliot winning this competition. We’ll see in the next month…

I know that Leon Russel wrote it, in the sense that he penned it, but Donny Hathaway’s contributions to the song (phrasing, runs, changes in the melody) made the song. In the same way that “I Will Always Love You” is a Whitney Houston song, “At Last” is an Etta James song, “Me and Bobby McGee” is a Janis Joplin song, and “Respect” an Aretha Franklin song. Just because a songwriter writes (and sing) the song doesn’t mean they always get credited, especially in popular music.

Oh my Gosh! I am so angry… My husband and I always watch AI at around 10pm, with the DVR system. On Tuesdays, I check out Elliott’s number by 8.50pm to start voting NON-STOP. Last night when I truned the TV ont ot get his number, I realized that IT HAD NOT BEEN RECORDING… My husband got desperate, angrily trying to find out why and I got mad at first but then I reminded myself of RICKEY (you rock!!) and told my husband about the website once again. He felt a little better. I quickly got on line and read the only post by then that said somehting about how E made Paula cry… I got so mad I missed it…

I saw a couple of things, though, in the endo of the show when they give out the numbers and a flashback on the performances. I noticed Kellie “burtchered” again and that Kat is now showing A LOT more cleavage… maybe that is desperation… I hope that guys will not vote b/c of her breasts, though…….

Anyway, can anyone tell me exactly what the judges said, especifically what Simon said? I would love to see that, but I don’t know where to see, it… So I guess I will have to deal with only reading about it.

Oh my, his performance made me cry and I’m a guy! I never cry when I hear a song but this guy can really sing. I think this is the best singer and performance in the history of American Idol so far! Wow! Wow! So impressive…..! This guy must and should win!

Elliot has an absolutely amazing voice and everyone knows this….BUT HE NEEDS YOUR VOTES!!!! Rumors say that the show is rigged and that Chris is suppose to win. Boy this is a real suprise. Haven’t you noticed that every week he has laser light shows or in last nights show two dudes playing guitars on stage with him. Well, it’s a new day, and my complete admiration for Elliott has only increased.

My husband was stuck at work until 10 pm last night, and when he got home, I had him listen to the mp3s. My hubby used to perform in his youth.

After listening to Elliott, he stated: “The arrangement was complicated and hard to sing to but E nailed it and was incredible”. (I saw tears!)

For Chris: “he was getting better at controlling his vibrato at the beginning of the song, then lost control of it. The vibrato makes it sound like you are listening to a metronome. He needs to learn to project or he will destroy his vocal chords.”

Taylor: “He was off tonight, appears he might have a cold or something. This is what you do when you have to perform and don’t feel well, or your voice is not up to speed: you drop a chord and you change what you are singing. It happens, you still sound good, but don’t get as much applause as when you are right on target.”

I let him listen to Katherine (he has not seen the dress thing yet…..) “Way beyond her range, she needs to bring it down and sing soft, it got pitchy.”

Paris: “She needs time to develop more, she will be awesome when she gets rid of the little girl sound in her voice.”

Kellie: “Poor kid, she messed it up again”, but power to her for milking it for what it’s worth.

So, a singer’s take on singing. Myself, I cannot sing on key to save my life, but I have perfect “hearing pitch”.

GO ELLIOTT! As Randy said, you are DA BOMB!

I love Elliot! He is my total Favorite since the beginning. I was an Elliot and Chris fan, not so much for Chris anymore. I don’t think I could listen to a whole Chris Album as I could for Elliot. I think he is a total class act, he really gives it his all, I can see him taking suggestions. I voted as many times as I could during the time, lots of busy signals.

The thing I like most about Elliott is how far he has come. Regardless of how America votes, look at what he has been able to accomplish over the course of this show. Look at him as a performer today and compare that to his audition. Same amazing voice, same humble, charismatic personality, but now in a total package. The guy exudes professionalism: he’s willing to take the right advice from the right people to make his performances stronger (in comparison to Ace who wanted Queen to re-arrange “We Will Rock You”). The subtlety and nuance that he brings to his vocals may be lost on most of the people watching this show, but it doesn’t matter: 30 million people now know who Elliott Yamin is and how he can sing. And boy, can he sing. Compare his stage presence to Paris: he’s a natural, she’s been taught to make all those moves and it shows. Compare his vocal ability to Chris: I can feel the emotion and passion in Elliott’s performances where in Chris I get a cool-but-removed experience (look at “Have You Ever Really Loved A Women”, nice rendition but emotionally detached). Taylor, and I really liked Taylor’s “thing”, is really the leader of a bar band (can you see going to a Taylor Hicks performance anywhere other than a bar?). Kellie doesn’t deserve to still be in the competition; she’s horrible. Kat is good, but she isn’t quite the natural performer that Elliott is. Someone needs to help her with her personal style and fashion (she doesn’t yet have the total package). Simply put, Elliott Yamin is the real deal and deserves to be this year’s American Idol. It’s how far he’s come that moved Paula to tears. I hope America realizes that Elliott Yamin is an amazing singer, performer, and person.

This board: 373 comments, mostly of a positive nature.

Katherine’s board: 239 posts – many of an explicit nature, and totally juvenile.

Chris’s board: Again many explicit, many good. But only 141 comments.

Elliott represents what a true American Idol is. A true undiscovered talent who works at pharmacy store, reflecting a “regular” citizen of America. He is the type of guy that you could have encountered regularly in your everyday life. But you would have never thought about the “mystical treasure” of talent that’s been treasured deep inside him, waiting to be found and embraced by millions of people around the world.

He could have been my neighbor, my postalman, my grocery check-out guy, my banker, or heck he could have been my daily bus driver. And to see him stepping out from his everyday routines to chase his dream and let the world feel his inner heart and soul at its deepest couldn’t have made me inspired more in my heart. He is THE true American Idol.

That being said, Elliott is also a big reminder for us to appreciate music the way it should have been. We have lived so much with rap, r&b, pop and all MTV songs that smells gangsta, violence, money, marketing and image that we lost our way to find what music was truly all about. It was the music of an era when your image and look did not matter, money was not the issue, and marketing literally did not take over. It’s all about your voice and heart, and sharing it with your audiences and melt their heart.

The show does not end here, but to me, Elliott is already my American Idol.

And I gotta go to class soon. Yikes!!

After reading through this thread, I was moved again, tearing up (I’m a guy). It is wonderful to see that there are others out there that know and feel what the true power music has. Something that has been lost this past decade or two in “mainstream” music.

Last night after watching I wanted to say WOW, but the lump in my throat stopped me. I am in AWE of his ability to move with his instrument. He did not need a band, just his voice.

As others have indicated an acapella night would be fantastic. I’ve been hoping he does a song this way and hopefully, he will deliver. It will allow us to listen to that wonderful instrument of his the way it was meant to be heard. You want to be moved, wait for that and you will be.

On a personal side, I’ve had a brutal year and after hearing this song and watching Elliot’s growth, a part of me healed, I felt faith, I felt the power of inspiration and what can be achieved if you keep trying. Thank you Elliot for pushing some strength back into what has become a small portion of what I used to be. You’ve given me a sense of hope. It wasn’t just his last performance, it was watching the integrity he has shown and respect he has given to the journey he is on. It was watching the caterpillar cocoon and last night the butterfly came out.

This will not be his finest moment, but last night was to me, the turning of the page for Mr. Yamin. He has seen the other side, and he is embarking on that journey, now truly equipped in the sense that he is self-aware of what he is capable of doing. You will see great growth in Elliot either on the AI stage or off, it no longer matters, he has seen his destiny and we will be a witness to and impacted by it.

I frankly could care less if he wins as it doesn’t matter, although everyone better vote like yaminit cause I want to see more of the growth and the gift. He is one of a handful of artists out there in a multitude of genres that truly have the ability to deliver the true POWER of music.

I also was moved to buy Donny Hathaway’s CD today via amazon after hearing about it. Before Elliot sang it, it was ranked #4702 in sales, as of a few moments ago, its ranked #28. You can sample it before you buy and if last night’s song did to you what it did to me, you should check this out.

Being an Ace fan and watching his journey this week now that he’s out in the “real world”…with all of the radio spots and guest appearances etc, it’s made me realize that people like Elliott, Taylor, Chris and Ace are ALL going to do just fine out there once AI is over..whether they are the last person standing or not. Their fans are so committed to each of them…and they are all so different.

Ace put it perfectly when asked about being upset that he was eliminated, he said something like: “I’m a winner already even though I’m the 7th to leave, cause people know me, they know my name, and my talent.. and I have fans who are excited to see my next move! It’s a great gift that being part of American Idol has given me”

I feel that same way about Elliott. He admitted that he’s never kept a job for long. He new his passion and his gift…and finally went after it…and he’s now found his life’s calling.

Sorry, but this guy is a trainwreck. He has no sense of subtlety, of phrasing, or of dynamics. He has a decent voice, but he just BELLOWS EVERYTHING. Manilow and Rogers both tried to tell him the same thing: THE SONG IS A STORY. TELL IT. Instead, he comes out and just belts everything out at the same annoying level.

He sings like a karoake mimic of donny hathaway, which is what the arranger said.
The worst part… he wasn’t singing the song with feeling. He was singing the song like a backup singer sings in the studio.

I revisited Rickey’s blog for the first time this season after catching Elliott’s magical performance last night… I discovered this blog last year, looking for clips of Fantasia’s “Summertime.” Fantasia and Elliott are blessed with the ability to create the same magic that true talent can provoke in the human soul. Someone in a post above commented that we may never really know “why” Elliott’s voice and delivery taps into our soul… we just know it happens and is an exhilarating experience.

I’ve been listening to Donny Hathaway since his first album in the 70’s. All I can say is, I am truly amazed that any AI contestant could deliver “A Song for You” that even “alluded” to Donny’s soulful, heartfelt rendition.

But — Elliott practically “channeled” Donny last night — despite the constraints of the arrangement he had to work with.

Whether he wins or not — AI just did us all a favor, folks, by bringing Elliott Yamin into our homes and hearts…

Post 452- yeah, something really does stink. AI has been promoting and pimping Chris non-stop since the start of the season. And to think that his voice isn’t even that good (or maybe that’s just me). He never seems to be able to hold a note without his odd, sheep-like vibrato. He’s fine, but nowhere near as good as Elliott!!!

Besides, rock artists (e.g. Chris) just seem like such posers without their bands, like Avril Lavigne.

Joni, it has been hard over here in Greensboro, NC, too… For the two hours I was voting from the only two phones in my house and I only got through about 10 times. I should say form those 10 times, 5 were during the last few minutes before 11pm…. And they were consecutive… The line was opened…

Elliott Yamin…is more than a possible future American Idol…I think El will eventually be an American ICON! This kid IS music…he doesn’t just sing it. It’s sad for those that have no clue why Paula and others at home had tears in their eyes…perhaps they’ve never experienced the “spiritual” aspect of music which transcends our natural 5 senses and moves us subconsciously. I think those who “didn’t get it” perhaps only “hear” music with their eyes. Tho it may still be a great expereince for them…it doesn’t flow to the depths or have the soul wrenching power to transform, move us and tap into our emotions and take control. Maybe they aren’t open to receiving the gift of music as it is transferred from the soul of the singer and poured into the soul of the listener…the human visual senses aren’t the receptors of this intangible quality and gift.

Twenty or thirty years from now…I expect to see Elliott still sharing his gift of song with us…it may be in Vegas, or in concerts…but he will be the Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Wayne Newton…in essense…an American ICON. Some of the other contestants this year… though talented…will find their niche in acting, movies, TV, or as off beat commentators on cable shows (hmmm, Kellie?), etc. Elliott…it will be music…it’s what he is…it’s what he has…and it’s what he shares with us…it’s his gift.

Win or lose…Elliott is our American ICON!

i got over 500 votes in here in MA and I was thrilled with that – the two phone lines helped a lot , but with 47 MILLION votes , record breaking , AI really needs to have at least 3 numbers for everyone to get through , although that many numbers might confuse the voting for some .

All I can say is don’t give up – Elliott’s song is the most popular link on this site and he has the most positive folow -up feedback by a landslide .
That tells me something – people LOVE him but cannot get all their votes through . Even with over 500 votes, I got many more busy signals than that .

Elliott was awesome!!! I’ve been on the E-Bandwagon since the beginning!! I think he is the only one improving from week to week in all areas (vocals, style and performance entertainment)!! He takes the judges comments (whether good or bad) and uses them to make his next performance better than the previous. GO ELLIOTT GO!!!
Everyone needs to vote for him. As much as I would like him to remain safe until #1, we can’t assume someone else is voting for him. Every vote counts for Elliott and yours does too. SO VOTE!!!

I would love to see Elliott win the whole thing as it would really be what AI should be about, an ordinary kid, with no pretentions, who has a great voice and is someone that the audience can relate to. well…see, i have been watchin ai since the first season. but its different this year. elliott is the only contestant i have been really excited about, since season one when i was cheering on kelly c.

I was able to dial in from work…( where we have a print out of every phonecall) 247 times and got through on all of them. Of course I live in Northern Arizona.

I have just listened to all the other contestant’s mp3s (except for Pickler because I don’t have to) and I must say, as far as I’m concerned, Elliott is way way on top, and all the others are bottom 5.

Notice how the audience swoooned at “Listen to the melody `cause my love is there hiding”? I wish they had used a piano only. Why can’t Elliott have a piano if Chris can have guitarists for crying out loud?

Update on the Donny Hathaway Collection cd. Its sales rank is now #27. I hope the producers are paying attention to this.

His eyes are so expressive when singing this song. At the beginning he looks down at Paula? singing “and I made some bad rhymes”, or when he looks away from the camera and then back at “we’re alone now” like he’s internally reflecting on his feelings.

I have to say that Elliott’s performance from Tuesday is the only one this whole time that I’ve continued to listen to. Just listened five, now six, more times today!

This song should bring you to tears. He is filled with so much emotion, such soul, he’s a true performer. No forcing the performance, it’s so natural.

This is perhaps our best top 5 performers in AI history. In a nutshell, it seems not possible to argue for who the weakest link is and therefore he/she warrants an exit.

Rather, who should win becomes the question.
Elliot is the answer.
Why?
Simply because Elliot:

1) has a humble beginning and character to boot

2) he is probably the most versatile of the singers that appeals to both teenagers and mid-age folks alike

3) Elliot may not be easily packaged by producers, and hence not their favorite.
Producers however would be able give the other 4 contestants contracts easily, present them their particular genre to sing and to market to viewers/fans.
We should give Elliot the AI title to aid in his jump into a lifelong career of stardom.

I just read the article and I’m quoting a paragraph from it which I think sums up why EVERYBODY needs to vote for Elliott:

I think that Elliott has come a long way since he auditioned, as far as looks is concerned. He is the kind of person who grows on you. Just look at the Ford commercial, he’s hot! So as far as marketing him i dont think that “looks” is a issue anymore. He kinda remind me of a young Paul Michael Glaser of Starsky & Hutch and I have seen Paul in person and was he hot or was he HOT! ELLIOTT has become more handsome each week, that’s what Paula said!

The fact that Elliot doesn’t fit the commercial mold is exactly what makes him so unique and interesting. These record companies are so stupid, they try to change everything about an artist to turn them into something they are not just to sell sell sell then when the public gets tired of the pre-fab crap it is the poor artist who suffers with his credibility in tatters. I hope Elliot resists this and stays true to himself. Contrary to popular belief you CAN sell a CD just on the strength of your artisty…look at Norah Jones. She had the top selling CD of the year with no promotion, no radio play and no videos. Just her voice. Elliot only needs his voice too. Please keep bombarding Idol with phone calls, we MUST keep Elliot on top. Now that Pickler is gone many of her votes will end up going to Chris or Taylor so we will really have to get out the vote this week. I’m scared for Elliot this week, he has to sing a song from the year he was born. It was almost ALL disco that year…yikes!

Elliot really is a humble guy that came from nothing, he didn’t even graduate high school. His teacher told him he should drop out because he thought he was a “waste of space”. How awful would that be? Talent like his cannot just go to waste. Who agrees?

Ok here’s the deal. Elliott is the guy who came out of nowhere and sang himself, inch by grueling inch, into our hearts. Unheralded, unpimped, damned with faint praise (“Overall I think you probably pulled that off”), diminished by poor editing (anyone else think Bocelli had more to say than “I think he has probably performed that song many times before”) he has delivered one flawless performance after another and MADE us sit up, take notice, and LISTEN. Not because anyone told us to, but because, damn, he’s got an amazing voice, he’s nailed every song he’s ever sung, and he just keeps getting better.

At this point though, other contestants have large and immovable fan bases. I know E gets lots of love on this blog, but the boards on the main AI website show lots of the same kinda love for the rest of the contenders. Those folk aren’t going to suddenly decide Tuesday night to vote for E, no matter how good he is, and no matter how poorly anyone else performs.

Rant follows.

What does this mean, you say? Is our funky white boy doomed to a 4th place finish? Is this his one bright shining moment and then is he doomed to the dustbin of talented also-rans? No, no, a thousand times no! Say it with me and say it like yamin it! But I’m already voting my li’l heart out, and my li’l fingers to the bone, you say. Aaah, not enough, it’s not enough! We need new blood! Get your mama to vote, and your best friend to vote, and your best friend’s brother to vote. The folk at Richmond say their lines are jammed, so please get your kith and kin around the rest of these United States onboard the E-train. One other person voting as rabidly as you for the E-man keeps him on a little longer. Five people might just be enough to get him to the top.

International voters, try internetcalls.com (did that work last time?); Mac users can try Skype. Skype isn’t free but it’s really really cheap.

Well said – 539. We need more text voting also among existing fan base! This week, I used the dialer for 2 hours (only had 100 votes got through – about 70% in my area), but I also used text messaging concurrently – and was able to submit about 8 votes per minute for the two hour period – SO MANY more votes. We have to submit text messages to boost his numbers. Cingular has unlimited messages the first month on all of their text message plans. I also here there are disposable cingular phones for $30 that have unlimited messaging included. Please VOTE, VOTE, VOTE as much as you can

You can go to IDol Chatter on USAToday’s website, or the messageboards on Entertainment Weekly (www.ew.com), or the American Idol messageboards, or any other boards that you may be aware of. The more he is talked about, the more people will vote for him. Make sure you visit these boards and post there as well right after Tuesday’s performances. It almost seems impossible that just over 3 months ago, nobody had any clue as to who Elliott is. And now, he is becoming one of the MOST LOVED AI CONTESTANTS IN AMERICON IDOL HISTORY. Think about it. Heâ€šÃ„Ã´s come such a long wayâ€šÃ„Â¶

When the season first started , everyone started to gain their favoritesâ€šÃ„Â¶ (Chrisâ€šÃ„Â¶ Taylorâ€šÃ„Â¶ yadda yadda yaddaâ€šÃ„Â¶) I wasnâ€šÃ„Ã´t really impressed by any of them. It seemed like this was going to be yet another typical, predictable American idol season. Whoever had the most airtime was going to make it further into the game, and there were several people who had a LOT of airtime (Kellie, Chris, Taylor, Paris, Lisaâ€šÃ„Â¶). Before the Hollywood rounds even began, I knew that they would be put into the top 24 by the judges.

Suddenlyâ€šÃ„Â¶ at the end of an American idol auditioning episode, they started showing next weekâ€šÃ„Ã´s episode.

Thenâ€šÃ„Â¶ in a blink of an eyeâ€šÃ„Â¶ they showed Elliott singing. One line.

Then he was gone, and credits started rolling.

Next week rolled by, and Elliott wasnâ€šÃ„Ã´t shown throughout the entire episode. I was disappointed. The one line that he did sing was VERY WELL DONE, and I was hoping that they were going to show his entire audition. But they didnâ€šÃ„Ã´t.

Hollywood round started. The contestants who already had A LOT of airtime during auditions were predictably shown once again singing with backup piano (Paris, Taylor, Mandisa, Lisa, Chrisâ€šÃ„Â¶). Elliott wasnâ€šÃ„Ã´t shown.

Elliott (at this point) was that â€šÃ„Ãºone guy who sang that â€šÃ„Ã²one lineâ€šÃ„Ã´ and whoâ€šÃ„Ã´s name I donâ€šÃ„Ã´t know.â€šÃ„Ã¹
Finally, at the end of Hollywood episode one, they shot footage of Elliott. He was on the stairs, wiping tears from his eyes. He was relieved that he made it to the next round. He had no idea that he would soon become loved by so many. He had no idea that Simon would call him as one of the greatest male AI vocalists of all time. He had no idea that even Paula would cry on Live TV for him and his journey.

Elliott had next to no air time but this changed during Hollywood round 2- group auditions. Elliottâ€šÃ„Ã´s identity was revealed. We now know his name. But the drama queen Brittenum twin got most of his attention. But Elliott stole the show when it was his turn to sing during the group performance. When he sang, my mouth dropped. His voice is so powerful that it pierces through your soul. After the song, Randy called him out as being the best one in the group.

Elliottâ€šÃ„Ã´s journey had officially started (on Valentines day, in fact). He made it through to the top 24 and I could not wait to hear him sing another song. My friends already had their favoritesâ€šÃ„Â¶ (Taylorâ€šÃ„Â¶ Chrisâ€šÃ„Â¶)

My favorite from the very beginning is and will always be ELLIOTT. His performance (If you really love me) was mind-blowing, and he surpassed it the next week with Moodyâ€šÃ„Ã´s Mood for Love.

Week-after-week he has survived. He started gathering fans (â€šÃ„ÃºThe Yaminionsâ€šÃ„Ãº) and I started voting for the first time ever.

But nowâ€šÃ„Â¶ after 10 weeks of memorable performancesâ€šÃ„Â¶ it seems like the Elliott Yamin journey might come to an endâ€šÃ„Â¶ He is the best in the competitionâ€šÃ„Â¶ heâ€šÃ„Ã´s had the littlest air-timeâ€šÃ„Â¶ He doesnâ€šÃ„Ã´t go around hogging the spotlightâ€šÃ„Â¶ and he made it this far from his voice alone.

IT MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH that people are voting for Katharine because of her sex appeal, whereas Elliott has to fight through horrible remarks about his appearance. Iâ€šÃ„Ã´m so angry. How can people be so cruel to someone who has a heart of gold and a voice that is so greatâ€šÃ„Â¶

I can hardly wait until tomorrow – to hear our guy again. My husband says I am obsessed – “why is this so important to you honey?”

Well, I was pondering that as I perused the top selling CDs on Amazon, and I realized that there really isn’t that much out there that is new and exciting.

Elliott is new and exciting, and I need some new music in my CD collection – honestly, the last thing I bought was Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez – I keep going back to the old stuff, cause the new stuff just isn’t doing it for me.

Simon Cowell obviously loves Chris and Katherine to win it now.
He has a monetary stake in AI winner’s record sales.
And he probably has his own idea of what and IDOL image should be to the advantage of his own record company..

#3 – Teach Me Tonight ( the rift – “I’ve lost all fear my love, te ee ee ee each me tonight) still makes me smile everytime I listen to it.
#4 I Don’t Want To Be (put a whole different funky spin on the song than Bo Bice’s rendition…loved how he growled in the bridge then hit the high note at the end… “I came from the mountain, the crust of creation, yeah – my whole situation, made from clay, stone, dust and now I’m tellin’ everybody” )

Actually, the only one that isn’t really a “perfect” performance is “I Don’t Want To Be”, when he forgot two words “THE BIRTH” (should have said “I don’t want to be anything other than “”the birth”" of two souls in one)…but the voice, the voice, THE VOICE!!! What a magnificent instrument!!

This kid has this 48 year old man disecting lyrics and trying to interpret every little nuance that he adds…I haven’t done this in a VERY long time!

I was slightly more successful getting through with the internet. It’s simple, quick to download, there’s little or no setup, it’s free, and I’m sure it can come in handy for other instances too. Oh, don’t worry…the performances will be great! With E’s vocal abilities…he will probably outshine or come close to George Benson’s version (very jazzy & hip)… I definitely can hear E doing very well with this tune.

And if “Save The Last Dance For Me” is Michael Buble`s version…again…Elliott will knock this one out of the park, too. Not that Buble` is a slouch…I just think that Elliott is just as good as Buble` (vocally)..and its interesting that he is another twenty something that has reached back to the old standards and mixed them with contemporary songs to create a very interesting repertoire.

The only thing that Buble` has over Elliott is his dynamic stage presence and showmanship…but that’s not to say that Elliott won’t develop this as his career grows.

Michael Buble’ also performed “A Song For You” on his last CD project…which I believed was produced by David Foster. Hmmmmmmm. And we all know that Elliott sang the snot out of that song (aka Paula’s snotting & crying…along with some of you at home, too)

If these are really the songs Elliott will be singing…I’m going to be waiting with baited breath…this is gonna be gooooooood!!!

I am so thrilled with all the love and support Elliott has been getting on all the message boards .
He is gaining fans with lightning speed – as time goes on, people are more and more drawn to and captivated by that voice that competes with the angels for attention .

He is such a caring , empathetic person – he does his mama proud !

I cannot imagine a day without the music of Elliott Yamin playing – we NEED Elliott’s cds like we need oxygen .

ON Elliott’s singing Buble’s music:

I heard that our boy TURBO E is going to be singing “Save the last dance for me” – for those of you who don’t know, refer to Micheal Buble, It’s Time album. I hope that Elliott will make the song into his own because I Buble’s version is quite too poppy and too cutsie for my taste. Well, David Foster, I belive is one of the producers of this album, hence no surprise.

LAST week, Elliott stunned the world with his rendition of “A Song for You”, which was also sung by Mr. Buble in It’s Time ALBUM. I hope this won’t offend Buble’s fan but Elliott did justice to the song, while for Mr. Buble’s, although delivers an amazing vocal, does not sing with as much heart and soul as Mr. Yamin. In fact, the star of Mr. Buble’s rendition was the great trumpeter Chris Botti who really captures the spirit of this beautiful song written by Leon Russell. I really encourage E-fans out there to listen to Buble’s version and be the judge.

Therefore, it will be good if Elliott picks a song that is brought to attentions by Mr. Buble. But I really do hope that he will make it his own using his soulful artistry. Moreover, I hope that a great producer will sign Elliott and not a big headed David Foster who simply takes all of his artists straight to cheese town.

NOTE: I am also a fan of Buble, I bought two of his CDs. I really like him too. But I am ready for a new Contemporary JAZZ icon to be born, who really sings it with a soulful voice. What do you think?

OKAY, I got home early today, installed internetcalls on my two computers. Elliott will again bring it home tonight with his song choices. All I hope is that he won’t do “Home” of Mr.Buble version but of his own version.

Just a shout out from Pittsburgh but Richmond, VA is my hometown. Today was declared Elliott Yamin Day and they placed large billboards up around the city for Elliott. There is a large one on I-95 next to Philip Morris HQ. I have attempted to place a Vote for Elliott message on every board and chatroom that I know of to include pageant message boards which are silly, I know, but get a ton of hits. I sent an email to my entire address book and asked that is be forwarded, specifically to those out of state. Elliott tends to lose votes when East Coast and Central shutdown. If you listen to Randy and Paula’s after show interviews, the last thing they both say is for America to keep voting for the talent… I think that to mean Elliott but I love him. My family owns the pharmacy where he currently works so I am trying all I know to get the word out. Let’s post messages now – in all spots we can think of – and vote like crazy for those two hours. Just a side note, I always try to believe that the right person comes out on top and say a small prayer for our boy E. Thanks for listening to my rant.

ME TOO. I am constantly nervous before Idol night on Tuesdays and must visit many websites/boards to see if I can determine how people are voting/who is more popular/is Elliott gaining popularing?/etc. etc.. It is crazy and very unhealthy (haha), but I love it!

I guess you can never really tell what will happen by visiting boards and websites because it all depends on the sites you visit and if there’s any bias.

I can’t WAIT for tonight to watch the show and vote my fingers off. I’m a little nervous if E sings Buble’s “Home” because I think it would be hard to jazz that song up (and some people may not like it if he does that), but I’m convinced he will knock “On Broadway” out of the park tonight. Perfect song for him.

The fact that Scott Savol sang that song last year on AI and was voted off the next night (it was down to the top 5! how ironic…) is a little daunting…but let’s not think of that.

Elliot sings with real passion and a quality in his
voice which is rare and very moving. in my opinion
this is the trademark of all great singers of which
there are too few. The final result should be a walkover
because none of the others have that level of quality. After all as they keep saying this is a singing competition. Cant wait for him to release an album.

It has been so rare, almost obsolete for me to hear his intonation fluctuate. I have formal music training and ear training specifically and this man has amazing intonation and pitch.

Elliott is, by far, not only the best this season, but in all the past seasons on AI. He has a rare, pure talent and a genuine, humble spirit that is too good for Hollywood to ruin! Whether or not he wins AI doesn’t have anything to do with his success. Elliott WILL land a recording contract with someone and I will be the first in line to buy his first CD. I only watch AI because of Elliott. I turn on TIVO because I want to play back Elliott. And if Elliott is voted off AI, I will no longer watch AI this season and remove it from TIVO. Whatever that unknown quality is that makes someone stand out from the crowd, Elliot has it..The other 3 finalists have alot of flash, but Elliot seems to tug at something in your soul.. Elliot could just stand there and sing the phone book in his wonderful jazz-soulful style and I would be mesmerized… I can’t beleive I’ve become so emotionaly involved in wanting him to win and have a chance to make lots of cd’s, but I know given the right type of musical producer and a Norah Jones sensibility, this boy could do anything.. American Idol didn’t do a lot to promote Elliot during the auditions, and Hollywood Week, etc. You know how they showed Paris during auditions and Katharine, etc. We never really saw Elliot until the circle theater. They only showed him for a few seconds during Hollywood Week.

I already had picked my favorites, I liked Chris and Taylor Hicks. That’s who I had seen from the earlier weeks. I didn’t know Elliot. When we first saw him perform it was on the night with the 12 male contestants. I was biased and didn’t like Elliots looks at first. (How shallow of me.)

When I heard him sing the second week (10 male contestants), my heart stopped. I paused the television, hands started sweating, I looked my family, we all were stunned. I un-paused the tv and we watched him finish singing Moodys Mood For Love. I said to my family and will say for the rest of my life, THAT WAS THE GREATEST PERFORMANCE OF ANY SONG I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE. He had the voice of an angel from heaven. We were all touched, and mind blown.

I am sorry (no I’m not) but NO ONE else compares to Elliot. He is a gift from heaven to us, his talent is truly phenomenal.

His performances are the highlights of our weeks. I go to my sons little league games on Tuesday nights during Idol, my friend calls and tells me what Elliot’s number is (I watch it later that night) and during the ball games I dial and dial for the two hours. (I do keep an eye on my son playing baseball too!)

We’ve got to keep voting for Elliot. He has got to win. Oh, and on my shallow comment about his looks at first sight, let me tell you, I was a nut, he is a freakin’ hunk, what was I thinking, he is truly gorgeous and keeps getting more and more handsome.

The first time I heard Elliott perform on the top 12 I knew he had it !! That guy has %90 hearing loss in one of his ears and he was never out of pitch while singing unlike the others ( Chris, Catherine ….etc )where they really slumped during some parts !!! , Elliott has a very good control over his voice with going up and down with the notes and high pitches

He should win it and even if he doesnt he will still a contract !! I was betting on him since the begining and never changed my mind !!

WOW….so sad to see Elliott elimated tonight and yet so glad to have gotten the chance to hear his great voice all season! It is a great accomplishment to make it as far as he did and he can carry that opportunity to the next level. I hope to hear his smooth vocals on his own album in the impending future and can only hope he gets to make the type of record that speaks to his style and musical talent. His story is a humbling one and his character is admirable. Each week he brought us a great performance, soulful voice, a unique spin on classic songs and grew from the advice the judges shared with him. You could see how he supported his peers in the contest and applauded their victories…Class, nothing but class…surely I respect him even more for that. It’s the humanity factor that’s admirable and I think his stood out a little bit higher amongst the rest. In this reality tv world you have to stand back and say “Hmmm….who’s album would I really want to buy, listen to and enjoy what I’m hearing?” No visuals here people, just a voice in tune with music. For me the answer is simple and obviously doesn’t need to be pointed out since it’s falls in this contestant’s section of Rickey’s blog. I think we were lucky to see the talent we saw this year on Idol…I think we are lucky that we got to chance to invite these people into our homes each week and be entertained by them…but mostly I feel lucky to have been moved by what Elliott brought time after time and recognized it as magic to the ears. Your star is still rising Elliott, reach for it and your fans will all be here waiting! Your voice inspired me to vote (repeatedly) for the first time in Idol’s 5 year run…and to me that’s gotta be one powerful voice. Congratulations on all your success E-Man, now and in the future.

It’s sad because ell’s only got to top3. And while downloading all his performances, I read this whole long thread…geez…. He has touched so many of us. He’s touched mine too. I was never ever in a million years blown away by a voice like him….(josh groban, celine dion, michael bubble whitney are some of them) Ell just always sings his heart out every time. I’m in love with his voice. He has quite a fans too in Indonesia. Many were crying too on the night he’s eliminated. We just hope that you have a bright future with successful albums.. Thanks Ell for introducing yourself to us. You are one in a million. You are the perfect picture of not just the American Idol, but the World Idol too…

This song made me cry when he sang it!! Not only does he have an amazing voice, he has a big heart and a humble spirit and I am so so happy that someone like that has come this far in the real world. I love him so very much, and when his CD comes out, I will be getting it THE day it is in stores, listening to it constantly- he is amazing and a true inspiration.

I am a 52 yr.young mom of three sons older than Elliott. Elliott touched my heart from the beginning and continues to do so.He brings tears to my eyes when he sings. He is one of the talented I have ever heard on American Idol. He is truly blessed with an amazing voice. When a singer can reach into your heart as Elliott can indeed do,THAT”S TALENT! He isn’t only a wonderful singer, but also a beautiful soul which comes out through his voice, from his heart to ours.God Bless this wonderful young man.

I’m a 53 year old woman whose one and only reason for watching American Idol this season was to hear Elliott Yamin. To this very day, his voice continues to haunt me and that’s a first. I’d like to know to whom song material should be pitched.
