Lol this has to be one of the easist experiences of seeing a person go that I have ever experienced. Lol its funny to think that anyone or any of Paris fans should be upset abuot her leaving.. She isnt 29 like Taylor, or mid aged like chris and elliott. She is a mere 17 years old. Her musical future is so bright it literally burns my eyes to look at her.. She will undoubtably go on to be one of the greatest singers ever. She commands the stage, her voice is impeccable and will only get better with time. She can dance, shes humble. I have faith that Matthew Knowles will truly bring out the best in Paris Bennettt. And fully allow her to use her vocal ability to bring back REAL Music to the music industry. Wow Paris has nothing but great things to look forward to..

She got all the exposure she needed on her Audition Day, when everyone across america witnessed how amazing and experienced her voice was. She didnt even need to make it this far. Becuz she is destined to dominate the musical world.

The truth is she doesnt need american idol to go on and do amazing things, Kat, Chris, Taylor, Eliott. Definately Eliott all do.

I will not throw all of my support in Eliotts direction.

OK people ya all need to WISE UP. Chris has already been appointed the “winner” by TPTB. The show is totally rigged on his behalf and Kat’s. TPTB picked them as the final two because they feel they have a “look” they can market. Why do you think that Chris and Kat are pimped like mad on all the show’s promos, the Fox news stations and the Ford ads and get positive remarks for crappy performances? It’s been going on for months! Whenever a Fox news program talks about Idol they ALWAYS show a clip of Chris and Kat and talk exclusively about Chris and Kat as if there wasn’t anyone else on the show. Last year when Constantine did Bohrap, the performance of the night, none of the news/entertainment programs on Fox even mentioned it, they showed clips of CARRIE. That is what is happening now with Chris. Elliot is like Invisible, they never even mention him. TPTB never expected Elliot to make it this far and now they are scared he is becoming a threat so watch for him to be removed next week in spite of a GREAT performance. Then they will get rid of Taylor in spite of the fact that he gets more votes than Chris. Taylor has been #1 in the voting since the show began yet he will be gone at #3 for inexplicable reasons. The only way to stop this manipulation of the result is to CALL the Idol show and let them know how you feel about this rigging. They should let the VOTES speak without all this propaganda.

I have really enjoyed the show. But the pimping this year is bumming me out.

In my opinion, Elliott outclasses the bunch. Too good for AI. Add to that Simon’s bias and manipulation of votes through his deragotory comments toward Elliott, and flattery toward the others and what you have, basically, is an unfair contest.

The news is not biased. My local Fox news shows people praising Taylor and saying Katharine should go. They love Paris here also because I’m in DC area.

I think the producers want, from the getgo, a white boy to win this season. That’s why Randy came out early on about a guy winning this season. They already have two white girls, one black boy, one black girl — see what’s missing? I think they’re going for Chris.

Paris should’ve waited 2-3 years and she’ll be a Fantasia-like favorite. As a Paris fan, my vote now will go to Katharine (i love female vocal and she’s good) and Elliot (like his humble personality, a bit turned off by some of his rude fans). I still can’t decide the proportion who’ll get how much of my two hours of votes tho.

I’m a huge Elliott fan but I’ve begun to accept the fact that he might not win this. AI is definitely looking for less work, quick cash cows mr & mrs popular type and Elliott in my opinion is a bigger artist that that. He is still in his growing stage, and what we see is just the tip of the iceberg. He’s definitely a class of his own and him not winning could probably be a better thing for him as long as he gets the exposure that he needs. That being said, Elliott my boy, you show them all I think he’s the only one out of the four who’s really developed as a performer. this week’s results more or less confirm my suspicions that the show in somewhat rigged. elliot clearly has massive support the past 3 weeks, and i highly doubt that he was in the bottom 2 vote-wise. kat or chris should have been there. right now, all i want is a taylor elliot final. if not, i would rather see them both go in the next 2 weeks making it a kat-chris final. which will clearly indicate what a farce AI has become. why can’t we have a genuine show without politics involved. oh well.

Elliott isn’t ‘intense’ like Chris, or ‘original’ like Taylor or ’sexy’ like Katherine…on the surface, to many non-fans, he’s just a nice boy with a good voice. It’s gonna be hard for these people to see him beyond that because ‘nice and good voice’ doesn’t resonate much for most artistes in the industry right now.

Which brings me to my point…Elliott is most deserving because he’s got exactly those qualities that most singers lack…he gets to be different. He’s a simple singer…but how many of that do you see around here right now? I see many Chris-es (heck, MANYMANYMANY) I see many Kats. I see many wacky performers like Taylor. There used to be many Elliotts, in the 80s, 90s, but now those types of singers have been taken for granted.

Well, now that I have had time to digest all the good (and bad) talk on this site, I have realized that all of us Elliott fans should not take it too hard if he does not win. I think some of you posting here have also come to realize that if he did win, they’d probably try to force him to sing uninspiring stuff that is totally not him. Look at Fantasia. What a dynamite singer she is, but I’m not really very impressed with the cookie cutter hip hop junk they have her singing. That wonderful set of pipes hasn’t really gotten a workout since she sang Summertime on AI. The same could happen to Elliott. Think about it. They want whoever wins to sing the mainstream stuff, the stuff they think sells to all the musically uneducated among us. All you younger fans will probably lambast me for this, but when I listen to the current top songs on the charts, I long for the old days when songs were unique. I could listen to any song from the late 1950s through the 1980s a million times…and dance to them, too. I can just see young people now when they are old, trying to dance to somebody like 50 Cent or Busta Rhyme. Good luck if your arthritis can take it, ha ha!!

Like it or not – this really is NOT just a SINGING competition… it is MUCH more. The winner should have STAR power, energy, charisma and more… It is the “IT” factor.

Sure all the characteristics are most important at a concert..but this is IDOL – and it should be singing and more…the whole package per se. Just my opinion.

Last year the AI producers got it wrong by going with Carrie instead of a rocker. Constantine had massive support that left the show when he did causing their ratings to drop the following week and in the finale when Bo had the entire audience in his palms while the “winner” Carrie did not they realized they made a huge mistake which is why they decided this year they would pick a rocker. They had originally picked Ace to win because he had Constantine’s looks (hence the early Ace pimping)but the voice just wasn’t good enough so they moved on to Chris. This year the people prefer the bluesy singing style of Elliot and Taylor but the producers in their stupidity are trying to make up for last year’s mistake by making another one this year. When Elliot and Taylor go on to have huge careers without AI they wil do the same thing next year, try and find a clone of Elliot and Taylor to pimp. Dummies.

I’m hooked every time Elliott performs…it’s not just the voice that does it for me, because I actually prefer watching his performances than listening to the mp3s. And those mp3s are pretty damn good, eh?

If we’re only fans of Elliott cos of the mp3s, it’s safe to say that we’d be rabid fans of Paris, or, say, Katharine. They’re wonderful singers too. ALL of them are great singers, I think.

I personally think Taylor should’ve gone tonight, but in reality any one of them could go any week. Now that Kellie is out of the picture, there is no one who is clearly beneath the rest, like she was.

I agree that Paris is going to have a great career. This is the most watched season of American Idol and therefore she is going to have many loyal fans, and rightfully so. I think her flaw on this show was that she has been, and still is, in the process of discovering who she is. Once she nails that down, I think there will be no stopping her.

My two favorites now are Elliott and Katherine, with Chris close behind. But even Taylor is not too shabby. Every week is crucial now, because they’re ALL good.

If they get good producers who let them do their own styles, I think they can all be successful. Can’t say this for other seasons though. And I’ll buy all of them’s CDs (except Chris, nothing against the guy I just hate alt-rock). They’re all very capable singers and good people.

Elliott fan of post 227, we’re on the same page. I said it last night on this blog and I’ll say it again – Elliott will be taken on, probably by the jazz world, and they’ll know how to groom him, provided they don’t make him too Cool Jazz, which can be pretty insipid. But, I think he has a mind of his own when it comes to his style. I think he’ll take positive and helpful criticism and direction, as he did with Manilow and Rod Stuart, but I see him as very strong on doing his music his way.

Now on to my vote.

I have voted for Katharine in the past, and I still think she is very talented, sweet, silly and lovely.

But reading this is really starting to convince me to think long and hard about switching to Elliott. What the one poster said about his soothing voice is correct. I never get tired of hearing it. And it is always soothing and pleasurable. It’s easy to listen to.

Another thing that posters said here that is convincing me to switch to Elliott is that he is a nice, humble and concerned guy. That’s true. And he’s had to overcome a lot of crap to get to where he is. That can’t have been an easy road.

I have a LOT of respect for E. I think I may just throw my support behind him.

Then again, If Kat keeps wearing thosse yummy dresses, yikes! I don’t know if I can stop my finger from dialing in at least a little for her, too.

I am so happy to see Paris go. in fact, se should not b in this idol at all. She is short and isn’t at all elegant and pretty. I wonder why many of you likes her sooo much. Also, her vocal quality is’t that good / wow / whatever you call it. If you guys listen losely and carefully, she sounded nose blocked at times. She can’t do the “head voice”. Furthermore, she is immitating Fantasia all the while. You guys love to have another Fantasia?

In contrast, Katerine has the best vocal quality here, but most of you hate her. She has the greatest vocal range and clearer voice than the rest of the participants. She does not sound as though “phelgm is stuck between her throat” (like what Elliot, Taylor and Chris sounded). She is unique and though her vocal is comparable to Kelly and Carrie, she outshines them with her classic performance. She did the long high notes sing better than them too. I do hope these innate ability of hers would be appreciated by people.

I agree with Lady Di. None of the other contestants have changed in any way through out this compeitition. Elliott has grown dramatically!

The more I think about it, the more I realize Elliott cannot win. (I will vote straight 2 phones, 2 hours for him next week!) But, in a way, tonight he HAS won!

Chris, Taylor, and Kat, have all been pimped thoughout the season, starting with background stories, etc. Elliott made it to where he is by his talented performances and by showing that he is a real caring person (pats for Taylor, hugs, etc). His soothing voice has won over people blinded by the Idol marketing machine.

1) I loved Paris from her audition, think she’s one of the best singers ever to be on the show AND one of the most likable personalities, and look forward to hearing her music in the future. That’s why I’m really glad she’s been voted off. Had she won, she would have been under the restrictive AI contract and squeezed into the teen pop r&b mold. Now that she’s off the show, Paris is free to sing the songs she loves in the style she wants. I look forward to her jazz releases — something she wouldn’t have been able to do with the AI producers herding her through the recording process and calling the creative shots. She’s got a ton of exposure from AI, and that’s all she could have needed or wanted.

2) Post 244… How much of the world have you traveled? Trust me, the negative traits you describe are not limited to America and Americans. Your real problem is with people in general, because you’ll find those qualities all over the world. The more of the world you see, the more you realize that people are all pretty similar at their core. We’re all fundamentally human, united by the fundamental flaws of humanity. Beauty and flashing lights regularly trump talent all over the world. Sad? Yes. Of all the countries, does it happen the most in America? No, no, NO. Trust me, a few places have us beat. Not that that’s comforting at all.

WHOO! Relief infinite from a Kat fan!

Paris was my second fav., but I do think it was her time to go. She’s amazing, yes, and I like her personality. But I wasn’t exactly feeling her. She’s my age, and I think she needs to live some more… She couldn’t have won because of the way she came into the competition – prodded by her family when she wanted to go to medical school. Maybe she has decided that music is what she wants to do now, BUT it didn’t exactly show in her performances. Sure, she had fun on that stage and with all her fans, but I didn’t really see any passion in her as I do the final four. Even though I like Paris much better than Taylor and think she’s technically a better singer, there IS more to singing that the technical aspect… I think Paris can bring that to the stage, but she needs time. It kind of bothers me that three of our final four are men nearing middle age… so the younger contestants get overshadowed… but at least these older ones know that they want to sing for their careers and have passion for what they do.

Also, I think Elliot deserves to be above Taylor! Ugh! Until recently, I felt nothing for Elliot because his vibrato annoyed me so much. But lately he’s been choosing songs that I can get the feel of and singing them so well. I wish Taylor were going next week. But alas, it will most likely be Kat or Elliot, our two best singers left. I like Chris, too… He’s good at rocking, but his suckiness at slower songs bothers me. He’s not as good of a singer… He’s doing so well because he’s different from the singers who really shine – he’s a rocker and a good one.

I would love to see Elliott win the whole thing as it would really be what AI should be about, an ordinary kid, with no pretentions, who has a great voice and is someone that the audience can relate to!

I think many of us would love to see an ‘underdog’ win a competition like AI b/c that’s what AI should be all about: to find someone who you would not expect to be there or win for that matter. Think back to just before the top 24 or even before the top 12, and ask yourself would you have guessed that Elliott would even be in Top 4?! I sure would not have thought so (since we have hardly heard him sing nor was he given much air time in which to gain popularity). But what about Chris, Katharine, & Taylor…would you have made a bet that they would be in the top 4? I sure would have. It is not just for this reason of being an ‘underdog’ that Elliott deserves to win this thing, but so many other reasons as well. You can just tell how great a person he is.. I think he has maintained his humility throughout this competition, unlike some of the other contestants. Apart from his physical changes (just a few touchups here and there), Elliott is still the same guy who auditioned for AI. He is amazing inside and out.

I also think the MANY posts that Elliott’s fans make is a testament to how much Elliott has touched us. So much so that each of us are willing to say something positive about him. This is what happens when a person has a positive effect on you.. you just want to tell everybody about it!

Rickey, I’m glad you didn’t get totally discouraged and angry enough to pull the plug on this whole Blog. I think maybe I would have! I was sorry to see our little gal Paris go. She has so much talent and brought so much joy to the show. I know she will go far in her career if she continues as an entertainer.

Why does everyone feel the need to bash other contestants that you’re not rooting for? It’s petty and ultimately pointless. At this point in the show, you’re sticking with your favorite no matter if they perform a stinker or something amazing, whatever, that’s your right. Just prop up your own favorites and chill out about the others.
All of these singers left will get contracts, so don’t worry about it. Winning AI is not the be-all end-all to their careers. Who actually wants their favorites to be under AI’s thumb anyways when it comes time to record an album?

Geez, everyone here is a Taylor-hater. I think it’s pretty funny that people don’t hear his incredible voice. Not to mention, he is in a league of his own when it comes to “feeling” the music. Did anyone notice the spontaneous applause in Taylor’s “Something” when he said, “something in the way she wooooos me”? It’s because he’s got IT. He wasn’t holding a loud, long note. It was just a small inflection, but for those who truly value music (and Taylor), it was a “wow” moment. Whether he’s dancing crazy or singing a serious song, he feels it. He lives it. He’s in his music. You don’t seem him smiling during a serious song or vice versa. I like that.

I am usually not one to criticize everyone else’s favorite. Why does everyone have to criticize Taylor for being who he is? You can state your opinion without demeaning others. I think it’s okay to say what you like and dislike. For example, I find it irritating when Kat smiles through sad songs. It’s like she doesn’t feel the music. But I enjoy her otherwise. Taylor tells stories through the music. Neither is better or worse; they just are.

And Elliott’s vibrato grates on my nerves (even though he has a great, great tone). And Chris’ vibrato and sometimes yelling is awful, yet his tone is also good. He’s very intense and I like that. Paris was incredibly talented and I am sorry to see her go. There is good (and bad) in all singers. But why do people have to constantly put others down because you don’t understand them? I see a lot of people saying “Taylor is yuck” or “Taylor should go home.” Obviously people don’t feel that way in general; he is still there. And yes, he is super talented vocally. Maybe you just don’t “get” him. Try to see the good in the singers left. There is good and not-so-good in them all.

Ok- So Taylor, Kat and Chris get the lead right out of the gate on the opening singing. Paris and Elliot left to sing..what- not much. If that isn’t a way for AI to get Tay, Kat and Chris out there like they want than I don’t know what is. Every year TPTB decide who they would like to see the voters focus on and this year it has been Chris and Taylor all the way. I love Chris and Taylor have from the begining. But the best male singer is Elliot, let’s face it. Now I know not all like the “older” tunes that Elliot sings but we cannot foget what a great voice he has. He has rarely sang a bad note, if ever, or truly had a bad night. Sure we would all like to see him move around the stage more but he deosn’t and it doesn’t matter to me because the kid can SING his butt off.
I also find it intersting that all the singers last week except Elliot got off the stage to sing behind the judges except Elliot…why is that? Is he that uncomfortable or does someone suggest he doesn’t?
I think that if Chris, Kat or Taylor win than I can live with that, but who truly has that great voice? Chris can sing his rocks songs very well, Taylor can sing and entertain and Kat…she is good but if I was picking by “voice: alone it would be ELLIOT all the way! Look how far he has come from the first 24…his look, his songs and his appeal. Changed the most if ya ask me.
I won’t hold my breath because Elliot won’t make the finals, though he should, but I will keep voting for him every Tuesday and if you all want to see Elliot make the final, pleassssse do the same.

Ok…so I’m sad to see Paris go but I think it was long overdue. She may have a great voice overall but her song choices have been less than stellar. She should have gone after her Queen song.

Elliot fans…sorry but overrated. You all keep saying that they don’t like him or they don’t compliment him, yada yada. If I remember correctly they billed him as having the best male vocal. I personally think they are wrong because his voice is just not impressive. But he was given his accolades when appropriate.

The same goes for all of the idols. They get their pokes and plaudits where appropriate.

I am a Katherine fan. For those who say she doesn’t have an amazing voice, you’re entitled to your opinion of course as I am for Katherine, but I think you’re wrong. Her vocal talent is strong, controlled, and as beautiful as she is.

I hoped that after season 3, America got past this race thing, and if there is a racial bias then that’s a a commentary on the US society in its entirety not just the AI viewers. So if anyone believes that there is racial bias on the show, then you should really analize society as a whole and work to effect positive change then just complain about it.

Every year I have a preference to a female vocal merely because I beleive that solo female artists are generally better then solo male performers. To me they tend to be more impressive.

With all that said…I am a Katherine fan and I think she deserves to win. If she does, she will have as good of a career as Kelly Clarkson.

I will be very disappointed if she doesn’t if she doesn’t win (I was nerve-racked thinking she would be bottom 2 tonight). But if she doesn’t win then I hope that Taylor or Chris does, merely because they have marketablity and appeal, not as much as Katherine but they still have it. (Sorry Elliot Fans!!!)

But if the show is not rigged…then America will vote for who they like talent aside. If everyone still thinks 5 years later that this is a signing contest then you need to wake up, because it’s way more than that. Singing is just a factor. Any situation where you vote is a popularity contest. The most qualified to the best person doesn’t always win….the most liked or the most appealing generally wins the race.

Here’s the question……. What kind of first single could the AI writers possibly come up with for a potential Taylor-Chris finale? We all know their composers aren’t that good, all they know to write are those pop ballads. They can’t even write R&B, that’s why Fantasia and Ruben never scored any other big hits aside from the finale single. And that’s why Bo’s album didn’t yield a lot of hits also. It seems that Kelly C got all the good writers and besides, she’s really a pop queen.

So my little theory is they are going to have to pimp pop-mainstream Katharine or maybe even pop-R&B Elliot for the final 2 so they can have a more listenable finale. A combo of either Taylor or Chris together with either Katharine or Elliot yields a finale that should turn out kinda like last year’s. It has to be EITHER Taylor or Chris and EITHER Katharine or Elliot for the final 2.

Personally, I want to see the 3 boys duke it out for the final 2, and Taylor with Chris in the finale. I loooooovve Elliot more than either Taylor or Chris but a part of me thinks he’s better off trying to make a career outside of Idol or they’re going to stick him with stupid songs like Sorry 2004. Unfortunately, I am afraid that the producers are aiming for a Kat-Taylor or Kat-Chris finale.

I think Kat’s got great talent, but there is something about her that I don’t like. Maybe it’s because she keeps sticking her ass out like that whenever the camera swings by. I guess she thinks she’s really sexy. She’s like a more talented version of Constantine (and Ace) – always trying to seduce the camera with those godawful looks but always just coming off a little bit scary/slutty.

Anyways, if Elliot is to stay after next week, he’s going to have to pull something WOW out of the hat. But if he manages to do this, he may have enough momentum to make it all the way to the final 2.

Well, that’s my 2 cents worth for today. I still think it’s the best final 4 line-up that American Idol’s ever had. GGGOOOOOO ELLIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AI producers should be ashamed of themselves. Just take this for example.

1. Performance order – 1 & 2 Elliott and Paris
2. Ford Coomercial – first three full on facial shots – Chris, Kat and Taylor
3. Group Performance – First 3 solos – Chris, Taylor and Kat
4. Ryan asks them all a question randomly on the couch. The first 3 questions go to: Taylor, Chris, and Kat

We all have said the same thing and maybe, just matbe once in my life I am tired by the pop ideal we have set as a society. I mean Brittany Spears is so good, right? Do we really think that Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Rod Stewart and a host of others made it on their looks? Me thinks not.

Kat – sounded much better in songs like Think, before she started dressing sexy. One of her songs was terrible Tuesday.

Chris – I do like him – I think he is a good guy. Simon says Elliott has no personality but Chris just tilts his head and has a dead pan look on his face. Vocally – not great.

Taylor – is fun to watch and does have a good voice. I think though you take away the moves and what do you have.

Paris – clearly the most talented female. She could dance and sing at the same time. By today’s pop standards, she truly fit in well. She has time. I think she is more talented than Kat.

Elliott – what can I say? Triumph of the human spirit. What will the producers do to pimp their three favs and leave poor Elliott out. They could add credibility to the show by letting the best vocalist win.

Put a bag over all their heads, make them sing a capella, etc. Who would America choose? Dial idol has not been off the last 4 weeks within their margin of error. They said that Elliott could have been 4th and he was. When it comes to voting in America on anything, we seldom get it right. Let’s get this one right. More people would feel right about an Elliott win, than an Elliott loss. Just my opinion.

Alright 193 Elliott fan – are you a guy? If you are a gal, you need a taste adjustment – I’m being funny.

I personally think Elliott is gorgeous, has sex appeal and an attraction that goes way beyond the typical surface stuff. When he sings, I can feel it in my body – right into the heart chakra. When he works the cameras he reaches me on a level that I cannot describe. I think many others feel the same way.

That “sexy” look many are talking about, doesn’t necessarily last, but a great singing voice does. It is timeless, as I believe Elliott will become.

Kudos, though, to all the contestants. They are brothers and sisters in arms (remember Dire Straits), and they seem to have genuine respect and caring for each other. Let’s respect them all by respecting each others’ various tastes in music and not bash anyone, it just isn’t very mature.

I wonder if Elliott would have escaped the bottom two if he had sang “On Broadway” with as much passion and soul as he did on Results Night? (with the exclusion of the modulating mishap near the end of the song)

Though Tuesday’s mp3 of “OB” sounds good (as always)…his stage performance came across rushed and lacked pizazz…no flair or excitement which is what I think he needed to get the “fence sitters” to vote for him. But the Results Night’s stage performance was hot…he infused the song with the feeling of determination that the lyrics of the song call for. The comment from Kenny Rogers is what he should have used before he went on stage Tuesday…the lyrics tell a story…I don’t think Elliott dug deep into the heart of what “OB” meant on Tuesday…and that’s what got him in the bottom 2. (El fans…don’t get me wrong…he is my boy and gets 2 hours worth of voting from me after each performance)

At this stage of the game…the remaining contestant’s fans are entrenched…and to garner more votes…he needs to win over the “spoils” of the current loser and the “fence sitters” (at home) that aren’t persuaded to call in and vote.

If they are doing Elvis next week…El will do fine…just pick good song choices that show off his vocal abilities and don’t forget to “paint” the picture for the audience…we await to hear you with baited breath!

I visit this site practically every Wednesday and Thursday to checkout out the AI page, and this is my first time posting. Rickey you do an unbelievable job and I wish to thank you for ALL YOUR HARD WORK!

Now…. I have to agree with many that last nights episode had me literally on pins and needles. I AM HUGE “E” fan, and feel that next week will be his last unfortunately (I would love to be wrong about this).
I think that sucks, because he is an amazing talent (just beyond words). It’s crazy to think that people believe him not to have the “X”/”IT” factor because of his appearance. Personally, I think because of his amazing talent, he outshines Ace, Chris and all the others with regard to looks. I would only hope he’ll go on to do incredible things with his God given talent.

I was thrilled that tonight’s show was only a half hour. I love the quick eliminations. And no crappy musical guests either. Which meant the Top 5 performed a group sing. YAY! Except that song–holy crap, what was that song? It was called “We Are One” and was written for something called the British Commonwealth Games. Ewww.

This was yer typical puppies-flowerz-there’s-a-pot-of-gold-at-the-end-of-the-rainbow-if-you-only-dare-reach-for-the-starz-and-OMG-we-r-one cliched cornball crud-fest.

Actually, this song is exactly the kind of tune the winner will have to sing at the finale. So, get practicing kids!

MY COMMENT ADDED :

If you fans of Soul and Alt-Rock don’t want soiling the likes of Taylor Hicks and Chris Daughtry with this kind of bland ( read : A MOMENT LIKE THIS ) music, I suggest you don’t vote for them to win and please, just please, let Katharine Mcphee have the crown. Kat is the PROTOTYPICAL American Idol template and it would be better for the show and for Taylor and Chris’ sake to just let her win ( Note, I am discounting Elliott because I believe that the Elvis theme won’t do him any good and he is probably
the next to go REGARDLESS of what he does. If after you sing a song that moved Paula to tears and cause her to remark with hyperbole “YOU ARE THE AMERICAN IDOL”, you still end up bottom 3, that does not speak well about the strength and number of your fan base ).

Speaking about fan bases, as a side remark — Taylor was Number 1 again in the DIAL IDOL and AT & T land lines stats last night.

I just want Taylor to get outa there at number 3 and do his own soul thang at that point. I DREAD having to hear him sing another Diane Warren song.

Unfortunately, this song was merely bad-bad, not so-bad-it’s-good-bad. Am I making sense? I don’t mean the singing was terrible, either. The singing was good. Except when that choir joined them on stage. Like Bandzilla? (The AI House band is LOUD) How about Choirzilla? (Ditto) At that point, the entire number turned into a big, goopy bowl of schlock. The song was just really, really banal. And no pointy pose either. Not even a giggle. That was not fun.

That is what guys like Taylor and Chris get when they sell their souls to Mephistopheles ( AKA American “POP” Idol ).

SO FOLKS, AS MUCH AS I AM A TAYLOR FAN… I PERSONALLY, FOR WHAT I BELIEVE IS FOR HIS SAKE, GOING TO *NOT* VOTE FOR HIM BY THE TIME THE TOP 3 ( WHICH i AM SURE HE WILL BE IN ) IS ANNOUNCED.

I think that whoever wins the AI crown and runner-up have the best chance of succeeding in the CD sale at first release because a lot of people will be curious about them. It’s not how much people like the winner(s). Many Americans are impulsive buyers. Should look back in the past AI finalists. Let’s take Latoya London as example. She was very popular and I think she was the best considering that most of her performances had very good reviews. What happened to her CD? Didn’t sell much because she was no longer hot when her CD was released. Fantasia’s CD sold more because she was the winner and her CD didn’t have to wait long to be released. Carrie U and Kelly C. are the only ones whose CDs are doing great in the chart.

So if you want Kat, Elliott, Chris and Taylor to help them, you need to exert more effort and patience in voting. Don’t blame and hate others why your favorite is voted off. Just an opinion.

Elliott Yamin’s problem with this copetiton is easy to remedy…and has nothing to do with his musical abilities…

The boy simply to be a little angrier when he gets on stage. It will rid him of the nice boy persona which is affecting all his performances…

We are done with seeing yo nice Elliottt…we want to see the prick side of your personality…

It gives the performance a darker side, which is elemental in performance theatrics…
Rock and rollers use it…heck even Hick’s and Daughtry employ it on stage…

I really believe that Taylor will WIN it ALL. He is constantly on top at DialIdol and he is the ONLY contestant to consistenly give a shout out to his Fans! He does it EVERY CHANCE HE GETS… now, that’s how you get the votes. He acknowledges his fan base with a pumped fist and shout out – Soul Patrol – particularly when Ryan is giving out his numbers to call and vote.

I am not a fan, but unlike any of the other contestants, he has a connection with his fans and they reward him for it.

If I am not mistaken, the name of your website is rickey.org, not neutralAmericanIdolreporter.org. You have every right to endorse whichever contestants you like and to badmouth and not post mp3s and videos for whichever contestants you dislike. If people have a problem with that, maybe they should start paying you for all of the services that you provide them. I’m sure running a site like this costs more than we pay to visit it (nothing, thank you) and if people are really so anxious to see their favorites again and again, why shouldn’t they pay you for it? You bring up an interesting point, but I’ve got to respectfully disagree. Why would you want to pick the “Prototypical” idol? I mean, if that’s the case, why even bother watching 12 weeks of the show if you know who’s going to win. For example, last year it was pretty clear that Carrie was going to win it all, so I didn’t even bother watching the season. The only thing that kept me halfway engaged was Constantine, a wildcard. I quit watching after he left, because the show got incredibly boring. And I think that’s what’s attractive about this season– we’ve got a lot of wildcards.

Personally, although I like Katharine, but I would love to see an all-guy finale. Our last few seasons have been dominated by girls, which is sad, becuase the most exciting season was the Clay-Ruben face-off. I think they said the final vote was <1%? Every other competition, it was sort’ve a no-brainer who was going to win it. One contestant clearly dominated over the other, and I don’t even think the loser was surprised.

As far as “pimping” goes, I think we’re oversimplifying thing. The producers are trying to bring out the most appealing characteristics of each performer– that makes sense, especially if one area is weaker than the other. For example, Katharine is HOT, but I think they really play that up in order because she’s a really inconsistent performer. Taylor’s not the best vocalist, but he’s still got that really goofy personality. Chris is very marketable, so they probably want to give him more exposure, but I’m honestly a little disappointed that the AI producers are so shallow that they don’t think his family or history is interesting enough to look into.

I think it’s hilarious that people say that Elliot isn’t pimped because he doesn’t get enough “commercial time,” when he’s got the most developed backstory of all the contestants: diabetic, deaf in one ear, DJ’ed, worked lots of jobs, etc. I know more about him than the other three contestants combined, and he’s not even my fave.

It’s probably no big secret that I’m a Chris fan. I’m really sick of people saying that he always “sounds the same,” and the more I thought about it– his song choices make a LOT of sense. He’s already proven that he has the talent to sing a slow’n pretty song if he’s forced to, so now he’s going back to what he WANTS to do. It’s a brilliant strategy, because even if he doesn’t win, fans can be confident that they know EXACTLY what to expect from his album.

Everybody was making such a big deal about Elliot and Paris being able to “sing anything,” but is that necessarily a good thing? Nobody is going to produce a motley album of showtunes, rock covers, a country track, a lounge track, a 50’s song, etc. because nobody would buy that album. When you go in all different directions, you run the risk of not establishing any clear identity– I honestly think that’s why Paris got kicked off. Elliot’s already proven his vocal ability, but I really never warmed up to him because I have no idea what it is he’s all about. Pretty much, he does whatever AI tells him to do– there have never been any issues of preferences or anything. The best strategy for him would be to find his genre and stick to it.

Chris may be predictable, but that’s what makes him such a dynamic performer. Just when you think you’re settled, he’ll throw in a mind-blowing performance that shatters those expectations, and it’s that much more effective.

Agree with Q re Elliot’s performance on “On Broadway” last night was head and shoulders above Tuesday’s lackluster and slightly off key performance of the same song. As the judges say, you need to bring it every week at this point. Elliot moves forward only because of his voice. He does not have the looks or personality that the other contestants have to garner a lot of fans who will vote for him no matter how crappy a performance he turns in. But when he’s on, Elliot seems to be generally safe. I do think a lot of voters actually vote for what they consider the best performance of the week and not the same person every week. I think Elliot is also the one contestant who needs to be at least in the top two to have a chance at a career in the near future. I would like to see him in the final out of the four left. Taylor is my favorite to watch, but he is also the one who is most likely to fail with an idol contract/producer. He needs to do HIS thing, and not the homogenized crap that fantasia, bo, et al got stuck doing as exemplified by last night’s dreck of a group song. In any event, I suspect Elliot will benefit from those who generally voted for Paris because of her vocals (It doesn’t seem that she had a lot of fans attracted to her looks or personality.)

I COMPLETELY agree with post #171. The Idol powers that be have been MAD pimping Kat & Chris all season. There has been NO pimping whatsoever of Elliott, and he’s still around despite that fact, which just goes to show you how talented he is. But bottom line is that Elliott is definitely the best singer in the competition, and SHOULD win, but I have a feeling he won’t because people want to look at super hot Kat or Chris. SO ridiculous. This is a SINGING competition not a beauty pageant. I will be voting like mad for Elliott next week, I hope I (and all his other fans) can keep him in till the end!!!

Frankly, I was happy that Elliott made the cut tonight. Besides the fact that the Boy Can Sang–the dude’s a real-life Cinderella story. From karaoke bars to performing in front of millions–watching him evolve on this show has been one of this season’s pleasures.

Some of the people here who adore Elliott’s voice should go to a good fundamental Protestant church (Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, etc) anywhere in the USA and listen to the people who sing solos and duets Sunday mornings or evenings. They have great voices, too and are awesome singers. Should not all 1,000,000 of those “great singers” be on AI because they are better than”XXXXXX” contestant”? I hear soloists every Sunday as good as any of the top 5 contestants. Possibly though they aren’t such good but controversial “entertainers” as the kids on AI. But maybe going to church will make the bashers come out of the service with more love and respect than many show on thse thread pages.
Why is it that a girl can post “Elliotts sooooooooooo hotttttttttt” or something about how they want to have Chris’ baby and its ok but if a guy says Kat is sexy and hot…..why she’s a “HO” and hes not voting with his EARS?
We’ve noticed how “Elliott cares about those people about to loose”. Nobody mentions how Paris cried several times when she knew a person she liked would leave and how Kat and Elliott were holding hands while waiting for the results and then hugged each. Probably they all like each other and do care. But it’s also a competition.

It is a travesty that someone who uses erratic beahvior to distract America from the fact that he cannot sing (Taylor) has remained longer in this competion that one of the best singers the competition has ever seen (Paris)

This reminds me of when La Toya London was kicked off before Jasmine Trias. Come on America…did we learn NOTHING!

He’s the Anthony Federov of this season- gawky, nerdy guy that walks into auditions, that blows judges away with an unexpectedly strong voice. Had a life or death situation that threatened his voice, the fact that he can sing is a miracle story, his parents are so proud of him, now he’s become loveable and cute and an inspiration to everybody, yadda yadda yadda.

I only started watching Idol during the Top 12, so I honestly don’t know how much they talked about the other contestants beforehand. But I can tell you that I know more about Elliot’s life than all the other contestants put together. All I know about Chris is that he’s married with kids… I’m not even sure how many. I think Taylor used to sing in Vegas, but that have been a joke. I don’t know anything about Kat. But somehow I can tell you that Elliot’s DJ name was E-double and he also used to wait tables?

Not to diss the boy’s singing ability, but it’s not fair to say the producers have totally left him hanging out to dry, either.

I think qualities like looks,personality are subjective for us non experts but for you to say that Elliott is overrated and not good vocally; would you say that to Stevie Wonder? He told Elliott he should sing professionally – majorly. Another professional said something to the effect of he had a major set of pipes. You can say that Elliott does not quite hang in the looks, on stage personality, etc department. I do get that. I think none of us here can deny he has a great voice and should defer to experts like Stevie Wonder, who I will just place a guess, has done this for a living with all the mega stars, MAJORLY!!!!!!

But the guest coaches did not “dis” any of the contestants and said good things about all their singing abilities and how they were all amazing performers. Like my idea…they are all good and NONE of them “Suck”. (Am I “wishy washy” in liking all of them?) There are thousands of good singers who could have those things said about them, too.

I personally think it’s funny how many of us are starting to look more and more towards Dialidol for voting suggestions (i/e – if someone is lower on Dialidol, to start focusing on them). Sure, Dialidol gets it right sometimes, but I feel that Zabasearch is starting to become more and more accurate. During the top 6 results show, it nailed the results having Kat and Chris as 1 and 2, Taylor and Elliott as 3 and 4, and Paris and Kellie as 5 and 6 with Kellie having the lowest # of votes. And for Wednesday’s result show, it had Elliott and Paris in the bottom two with Paris getting the lowest amount of votes. That site has Kat getting the #1 spot the past few weeks which might show that Taylor may not be as hyped as we all think.

Having said that, I’m a HUGE Elliott fan and have been one since his first performance in the top 24. I also agree with the evident “pimping” of Kat, Chris, and Taylor in the show’s rituals. And to say that people like certain contestants because they like their respective genres (i/e – Chris = rock, etc.) is an untrue assumption. I personally am not a big fan of jazz or soul music and I wait anxiously every week to hear what Elliot sings.

Though I feel that he deserved to be in the bottom two this week, I definitely feel that the past few weeks have shown that he has what it takes to win. His performances of “Somebody to Love” and “A Song for You” were among the best of the season, and both landed him in the bottom 3 (supposing that he placed 4th in the top 6 week). With Paris leaving, I do believe that a good portion of those votes may transfer to Elliott, as both are arguably the best vocalists of their respective genders.

With that said, next week will be interesting. Elvis week will suit Taylor well, but hopefully Elliott can make something happen. My dream night would be him performing last and ending the night with a Bo Bice-like acapella performance, perhaps of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” or another classic. Sometimes I feel that the band is too loud which overshadows the richness and tone of his voice.

I’d love to see an Elliott vs Kat final, with Chris rounding out the top 3. It’s a long shot, but America loves an underdog…VOTE LIKE CRAZY FOR ELLIOTT NEXT WEEK!!!!!!

354 Jerry – I think you are going to take some heat for your opinion, but it is yours and I respect your right to voice it. I do agree that there are some remarks out there that just are a bit much – like someone wanting to straddle Chris when he was lying on the floor learning to project his voice. Also some pretty disgusting remarks made about Paris and Kat.

You are probably right too, that people aren’t getting credit for the great person they more than likely are. Yes, Paris did cry for others when they were voted off, and I personally feel that she appears to be a really nice person. In fact, I would venture that they all are.

I think that what makes so many of us speak out about Elliott’s persona, is not only that he has tears for others, but he appears genuinely happy for those who make it through. He smiled and clapped vigorously when Chris made it through this week.

Go back and watch that video in slow motion if you missed it. He also smiled at Kat and seemed genuinely happy that she made it. Then he encourages the audience to clap, or stand up (watch his gestures) when the leaving contestant performs. Watch the backstage interaction with him and others and you might just get it.

In this week’s results video, we also saw a sensitive side of Chris as he put his hand on Paris’ knee when she was announced to be in the B2.

There are lots of people on this blog who should get some maturity under their wings and stop “bashing” others. By bashing, I mean posts like 233 and 257 – just plain nasty IMO.

There IS a difference between having an opinion and bashing someone. Honestly!

I’ve said it before and I will say it again: fear-based people attack others. They do so in order to make themselves feel better – it becomes a vicious circle.

Ok, I’m going to get off this soap-box. I was considering just deleting this, but, what the heck….

AI really needs to have an ‘originals’ week. Everyone should perform one of their own songs. If they can’t write lyrics, then they aren’t the best and should go home. I think that its been amply proven that this contest isn’t solely about the best voice. Its also about looks and personality. So why not also make it about a trait that at least has something to do with music. I know Chris and Taylor already have CDs out and they will prob. be the final 2 anyway.

It did look like Paris was ready to go home. She didn’t even really what to sing for her career, it was more family pressure. If she really wanted to sing she wouldn’t have even needed to get on AI.

I’m so confused when I come to a blog like this and read so much positive feedback about Elliott. Why the heck has he been in the B2 and B3 so much?

I’m a singer,song-writer, and producer of over 15 years and in my opinion Elliott is heads and shoulders above any of the others left in the top four. I understand people voting for gimmicks like Taylor, physical hotness like Kat, and a more rocking and current vibe like Chris. But I would expect to see these leanings reflected when I read blogs and I’m not! It seems like a good 75% of the bloggers are voting Elliott. Who the heck are voting for all the others?

Well, my wife and I sit and dial non-stop for Elliott every show because it’s just the right thing to do. He DOES have the best voice in the contest, regardless of looks, charisma (however you define it), or style. My $.02.

LSDWash post #367…well, I guess that you can blog all you want about your favorite contestant, but it’s all about VOTES.

I NEVER blog about Chris, and I vote every week for the entire two hours on two phones for him.

It’s also interesting that you never hear anyone BEGGING people to vote for Chris. It’s major water cooler conversation in my world. Why is that? Chris doesn’t require it? It doesn’t fit the “profile” or something of the typical Chris fan? It certainly doesn’t fit Chris. I don’t know.

I do enjoy Elliott..but I do not enjoy watching how uncomfortable he is in his own skin. Just my opinion. Perhaps one of the downfalls of making it on American Idol, the microscope they are under is insane. I’m sure there are singers on the radio right now that I love their songs, but I wouldn’t like to watch them perform.

But, I disagree when you say that Elliott DOES have the best voice in the competition. As a matter of fact, I’ve downloaded all of the contestants that are left onto my ipod and listened today objectively w/o watching my tivo. I absolutely think that Chris has the BEST voice. And the best stage appeal. And incredible sex appeal. And is extremely marketable. And he knows who he is, never doubts it and exudes incredible self confidence.

But in the end, isn’t that the great thing about music?..we all have different people that truly move us.

And for me it’s Chris, hands down.

And I do agree that Chris, from what he has sung, is the most compatible with Top 40 RocknRoll Airplay.

But Elliot, to me, represents what American Idol has always been all about – discovering unchained, raw, unprofessional talent.

BUT! (Again!) As a 50-yr-old female – the only ones I’d buy are Melissa Meghee (who so sounds like Bonnie Raitt!) and Taylor Hicks.

Taylor’s rendition of “Something” has swirled in my mind for two days and I just can’t get over how he melded The Beatles, Joe Cocker, and HIMSELF in one of the most heartfelt, sexy, performances I’ve ever seen on AI.

Itâ€šÃ„Ã´s an Idol world gone awry when Taylor gives the [second] best vocal of the night and Elliott stumbles in a genre he should’ve excelled in. But this is Idol-land, my loves, and stranger things have happened. Only a few more weeks before Chris is crowned victor with Katharine and Taylor [the new Mr. Votefortheworst.com, btw] sniffing his tight cheeks close behind.

We get a two-for-Tuesday, and with all the home-photos they could have called Round 1 Ugly Babies. But the Birth Year/Billboard category is always a lip-smacking dichotomy in part because it confounds the kids, and, selfishly I enjoy that.

Ryan makes a billion dollars a year yet opts to choose his couture from Gay-mart. Tonight Taylor stole his shirt, so he selects a more conservative look. He fulfills his 5-seasons wish, though, of finally laying one of the male opponents. Paulaâ€šÃ„Ã´s hair is all dolled up for her Thursday night performance in â€šÃ„Ã²Fraggle Rock: The Musicalâ€šÃ„Ã´ [coming to a dinner theatre near you, with your maitre de for the evening, Mr. Ace Young!] while Simonâ€šÃ„Ã´s man-bra seems to be mounting, while Randy just sits there trying to catch a breath through his Flex-A-Band slacks.

If seeing Aceâ€šÃ„Ã´s unsightly, sweaty, goofy mug in the audience wasnâ€šÃ„Ã´t frightening enough for you, there sits Anthony Federov, last seasonâ€šÃ„Ã´s adenoidal mandatory heartthrob. And for a second I thought there was a screen-grab of Courtney Love as a disheveled, drugged-out teenager, but it was only Season 1s Nikki McKibbin, the bland rock chick who pounced Tamyra Grey out of the Top 3. Ryan informs us that Satanâ€šÃ„Ã´s minions are still hard at work with the upcoming release of the annual Idol release, this one called â€šÃ„Ã²Encoresâ€šÃ„Ã´. Oy.

Round one: Birth Year

First up was Elliottâ€šÃ„Ã´s â€šÃ„Ã²On Broadwayâ€šÃ„Ã´. Wow. Youâ€šÃ„Ã´ve got trouble, my friend, right here in Idol City. One-upped by Scott Savol – last year!! Iâ€šÃ„Ã´m depressed. â€šÃ„Ã²Nuff said. My grade: B-

If that number didnâ€šÃ„Ã´t dishearten me enough, I wiped my ears to be sure I heard Paris correctly when she says sheâ€šÃ„Ã´s doing Princeâ€šÃ„Ã´s â€šÃ„Ã²Kiss.â€šÃ„Ã´ I figured she could better commit suicide by sticking her head inside her Easy Bake Oven. Besides, if she were born in 1988, then sheâ€šÃ„Ã´s doing the TOM JONES version of Princeâ€šÃ„Ã´s 1986 song. But you know what? It was extremely peculiar, but not totally heinous. Paris the Vamp could never fly, though. Third-Obligatory-Ace-Bash-Of-The-Week: thank your god that he wasnâ€šÃ„Ã´t around to attempt falsetto-laden Prince. Whew. My grade: B-

Chris gives the best vocal of the night by instilling some passion into god-damned-frigginâ€šÃ„Ã´ Stynx! I mean, Styx! â€šÃ„Ã²Renegadeâ€šÃ„Ã´ was well sung and performed like a true rock star. Of course, heâ€šÃ„Ã´s probably performed this a thousand times in bars across the south, but nevertheless, heâ€šÃ„Ã´s a superster in the making. My grade: A-

In a padded room inside the caverns of the Kodak theatre, Kellie Pickler is pointing her finger at the TV and howling tears of hilarity at Katharine McPhee, because in all her weeks or brain-atrophying torture, Kellie was never as monstrous as Katharine channeling Ned Beatty in â€šÃ„Ã²Deliveranceâ€šÃ„Ã´ during â€šÃ„Ã²Against All Oddsâ€šÃ„Ã´. I cannot fathom a back-peddle tomorrow, Simon. My grade: F

I expected Taylor to sing â€šÃ„Ã²Chattanooga Choo Chooâ€šÃ„Ã´ until I realized that he might look a hundred, but heâ€šÃ„Ã´s only thirtysomething. In any case, like a Chia-Pet run amok, he schizzed out 1976s â€šÃ„Ã²Play That Funky Music, White Boyâ€šÃ„Ã´ and displayed that, alas, histrionics aside, heâ€šÃ„Ã´s about as funky as Michael McDonaldâ€šÃ„Ã´s foray into Motown [in other words heâ€šÃ„Ã´s funk-soul brother number one for middle-aged housewives who couldnâ€šÃ„Ã´t tell John Lee Hooker from TJ Hooker. This was Hicks-sterically chaotic, off-kilter cataclysm that Randy and Paula ate up and Simon pegged accurately. My grade: C

After a much needed Zoloft, we dive back into Round 2, the Billboard Top 10 segment, with Fred Bronson [the Billboard pimp who annually educates the Idols on chart history] nowhere in sight. What we get, instead, is Ryan pimping of Idolâ€šÃ„Ã´s success on the Billboard charts. Gee, I hope they play a clip of Daniel Powterâ€šÃ„Ã´s â€šÃ„Ã²Bad Dayâ€šÃ„Ã´ because, you know, we never get to hear it.

Elliott is back with Michael Bubleâ€šÃ„Ã´s â€šÃ„Ã²Homeâ€šÃ„Ã´, and itâ€šÃ„Ã´s a superior performance to his earlier muddling, but it is still far removed from where he should be after last weekâ€šÃ„Ã´s classic â€šÃ„Ã²A Song For Youâ€šÃ„Ã´. Ironically enough, this week he exuded confidence but lacked exuberance. He seemed like a stranger in his own land. My grade: B+ [Upped to â€šÃ„Ã²plusâ€šÃ„Ã´ by fiat].

Paris was able to accomplish something Mary J. Blige has never been able to – sing a whole song almost in tune. Her take on Bligeâ€šÃ„Ã´s â€šÃ„Ã²Be Without Youâ€šÃ„Ã´ was too young, but where her youthful naivetâˆšÂ© saved â€šÃ„Ã²Kissâ€šÃ„Ã´ from total destruction, it works against her here. She keeps this up and I smell a future musical version of â€šÃ„Ã²Lolitaâ€šÃ„Ã´. Still, surprisingly effective. My grade: B+

For the first time in my life, I actually prayed for a Staind song, because Chrisâ€šÃ„Ã´ â€šÃ„Ã²I Dare Youâ€šÃ„Ã´ was like a dentist drill penetrating my skull. He lost his control and nearly lost his voice, and his statement that heâ€šÃ„Ã´s never sung this much in his life is indicative of non-professionalism and is a blow to his die-hard fan base who sees â€šÃ„Ã²Superstarâ€šÃ„Ã´ in their eyes. Whatâ€šÃ„Ã´s he going to do when he has to scream like this nightly on tour, AI or solo? Maybe Iâ€šÃ„Ã´ve been wrong all along â€šÃ„Ã¬ maybe he DOESNâ€šÃ„Ã´T have intestinal fortitude for a Rock â€šÃ„Ã²N Roll life. Maybe a music career at his age is pointless. Too bad. My grade: C+

Working hard during commercial break, her handlers must have been working triple-overtime to create a personality for Katharine, since even the male-demographic who pushed her into the TOP 2 [!!!] after last weeks shriek-fest must have suffered erectile-dysfunction by her earlier presentation. This time she thrusts her denim-encrusted crotch in our faces repeatedly, writhing away in a squat-a-thon, hamming KT Tunstallâ€šÃ„Ã´s already hammy â€šÃ„Ã²Black Horse and Cherry Treeâ€šÃ„Ã´ into her best, kookiest performance by far. I know! Iâ€šÃ„Ã´m as shocked as you! My grade: Bâ€šÃ„Â¶ok, ok. B+. Nah, a solid B

And finally weâ€šÃ„Ã´re back to Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive. Taylor somehow cheats his way into doing a 40-year-old Beatles song. George Harrisonâ€šÃ„Ã´s â€šÃ„Ã²Somethingâ€šÃ„Ã´ is a rapturous piece of songwriting, and [until near the very end, where I swear he belched] Taylor does it justice. But be careful, Taylor â€šÃ„Ã¬ it wasnâ€šÃ„Ã´t curiosity that killed the cat; it was over-confidence. If Taylor didnâ€šÃ„Ã´t have a big enough fan base, the votes from the crew at Votefortheworst.com have certainly kept him afloat. But, the problem with VFTW is that they are endorsing a contestant that has yet to be in the bottom 2 or 3. His fan base is the largest of all the Idols, and my prediction of a Chris victory might turn to a Taylor conquest. My grade: B+

***Iâ€šÃ„Ã´ll Love Paris In the Springtime – Results Show***

Rushing through the results, because the powers that be canâ€šÃ„Ã´t control a blabbering host, we get the weekly Ford commercial â€šÃ„Ã¬ the most unsettling and nonsensical yet. But we are also privy to the Chris/Kat/Taylor show â€šÃ„Ã¬ a foreshadowing no doubt â€šÃ„Ã¬ who take lead in an absolute dreadful group number, leaving Paris and Elliott as background singers. They should be thankful â€šÃ„Ã¬ besides, everyone knows backup singers are the unsung heroes.

And, so, we are witness to a familiar but unwarranted bottom 2. It was Elliott instead of Katharine, and while he sang you saw the guilt in her eyes.

As we say goodbye to Paris, and we FADE TO WHITE with the oddest, most distinct, unconditionally tedious Top 4 ever, my partner Rob made an astute observation â€šÃ„Ã¬ he doesnâ€šÃ„Ã´t think Paris even cares. And I agree. Robâ€šÃ„Ã´s tears flow every results show â€šÃ„Ã¬ even for contestants he detested, my Mr. Uber-sensitive. He shed only a small tear for Paris, not because his love of her waned. Itâ€šÃ„Ã´s because he is steadfast in his belief – and his truth is evident – that of all the Idols, she is the one who needs this show least.

I cannot recall, these past few seasons, any Idol wannabe who has had such extraordinary superlatives used in describing them, by the press, by peers, by guest stars. Each and every visitor coach was at no loss of hosannas when they spoke her name. TV Guide said it best [did I just say that?]: If Paris wins she could be a pop star. If she loses, she could be a legend. So, this ainâ€šÃ„Ã´t goodbye, Paris. Weâ€šÃ„Ã´ll be seeing you.

Uhm… yeah. If I’m going to buy their album, I’d sort of like to know what I’m shelling my $14.99 for. My point is that Elliot really hasn’t established a sense of identity for himself, and I have no idea what kind of music to expect from him. Right now he’s AI play-doh, he’ll do whatever it is they ask him to, whether it’s showtunes, country, gospel, or hip-hop– except for maybe rock. So yeah, he’s versatile, but doesn’t he have his own style?

I really think your argument is sort’ve tautological, because if you attribute each contestant to another type of music, then none of them bring anything “new.” Maybe the best word for Chris is refreshing. You’re right, there haven’t been any hard rockers on AI– so isn’t it about time we did? You said so yourself, there’s so much alternative music out there. So why has it taken Idol 5 seasons to realize that there are people that like that type of music? By including that type of music, they’re not only broadening the audience of the show, but it gives the viewers a chance to hear something different, too. Up til now, AI has been defined by 4 things: pop, r&B, country, and showtunes.

There’s a lot more out there. I’d personally like to see a classically trained opera singer, a folk singer, a reggae singer, or a Latin contestant on future seasons. It might let the audience get out of their comfort zone a little, and it’d make the show more diverse.

I personally hate the idea of all guys final. It would be boring and predictable that who will win. I don’t like the screaming voice of Chris. Taylor isn’t versatile Elliot has great voice but lack of it factor. Kat got the whole package but it seems that the producer wants to get rid of her. Chris is the only one who stands up in the real world, to me. He would hit the ground running in a major way..and his candle wouldn’t flicker and fade..and he wouldn’t be begging for people to support him, buy his record, and come see him in concert. Guys like him, girls like him, the generation that never wants to grow up likes him (mine), the younger generation likes him (my teenagers and their freinds), the camera likes him…

Simply my opinion, that’s all.

Since her audition episode aired in January, 17-year-old prodigy Paris Bennett was considered a favorite to win, and throughout the season she continually impressed both the judges and the guest stars. However, in typical inexplicable “American Idol” fashion, the Fayetteville, Georgia, native continually found herself in the bottom two or three. And on Wednesday, after bravely tackling Prince’s “Kiss” and Mary J. Blige’s “Be Without You” the night before, she was eliminated (see ” ‘American Idol’ Viewers Kiss Paris Bennett Goodbye”).

Q: To those watching at home, it seemed like you were just happy to be there and it never phased you to be in the bottom three or even when you were eliminated.

A: I was very, very happy last night, whether it was a good decision or bad decision, whether I stayed or I was going home, I was happy with whatever. I’m in the top five, I can’t really complain. Out of 150,000 people [who auditioned], look at where I made it. I’m just so grateful to have had the opportunity to share my gift and give my all and give 100 percent every night, time after time, to prove to you guys that I wasn’t just doing it to have the title of “American Idol.” It was to show you guys this is what I love and this is my passion. To myself I’ve already gotten the title of “American Idol” because I’m a role model, and to more than just little kids, but to adults and people my age. I’ve earned my title and it was my time to go. ‘Idol’ Season Five Performances

Q: Do you think it backfired that were you an early favorite?

A: Not at all. People made their judgments and they chose wisely. When it all comes down to it, in my mind, it was already planned. My journey was going to end somewhere. I never thought too much on it, just because I knew that chapter was going to close. In fact, I think it made me even more of a role model.

Q: Which performance were you most proud of?

A: I would definitely have to say I was most proud of my rock week. No one ever expected me to be able get through Queen. I was happy I made Queen happy and I was able to do a song that Freddie Mercury wrote just before he passed away (“The Show Must Go On”). That was the best week for me.

Q: Do you think your age worked against you? Do you wish you would have waited a few more years?

A: I don’t regret anything that has happened so far. I don’t think it did anything. When it all came down to it, it wasn’t something people really thought about. Being 17 is the greatest thing. I thank God that America got to see me grow up and be an independent woman.

Q: Can you tell us your thoughts on the final four?

A: Elliott possesses something so deep within himself that for him to be able to do the things he does when he’s on that stage, I honor him for that. He keeps it real. Taylor, that’s my big brother. He has so much soul in him, and again, he keeps it real. With both of them, they both have a sense of home, you never feel like you’re out of place. Katharine, very sweet, very classical. She’s just Katharine. She’s the beauty queen. Chris is definitely the rocker. He’s so intense with what he does, and that’s what makes him a great person.

Q: What style of music do you plan to pursue?

A: Since I’ve been on “American Idol,” I’ve been called the unpredictable one, so when I’m gonna do an album it’s going to be unpredictable. It will definitely have jazz, it will definitely have R&B, it will definitely have rock, since I stepped into a new era. I wanna give you guys a little bit of everything, because that is who I am.

Q: Any truth to the rumor that BeyoncâˆšÂ©’s dad approached you about working with him?

A: It can’t really be confirmed, but I can say that Mathew Knowles is definitely a person I would love to work with. We’re in the midst of things, and hopefully the next time you guys see me, after the tour and the album, he’ll be a part of that.

We don’t hear today’s artists singing songs already made popular in the past. AI should be contacted to tell them if a contestant can’t have new songs made up for them to sing (if they can’t write their own) that we’ve never heard before, they shouldn’t become contestants. I think that Chris is an amazing talent but I don’t think winning AI will be great for him. He needs to be in a band and he needs to have creative freedom. I just hope they don’t completely destroy who he is if he wins.

I also disagree..Chris is the best singer TO ME. I vote for Chris because he is the best singer, I anticipate his turn on the show because I always like his style and performance – and USUALLY his song choices.

My personal opinion is that Elliot is by far the best vocalist on the show. I think he’s proven that over and over again. Not everyone likes that style of music though, which could be my only guess as to his bottom 2 selection.

At this point, it’s anybody’s contest to win, and I think that it’s going to be Taylor, which I’m more than happy with. I like Chris & Kat also. Tay’s got the most charisma though and the most fans. SOUL PATROL!!

On a side not, Rickey, could you please post Elliott’s On Broadway song from Wednesday? That was definetly better than Tuesday’s (and that one was good too). He put more feeling into it, and was showin’ off the high range.

I also think that we saw the best group of 5 AI has seen yet, with everyone of those 5 becoming stars. We’ll see what happens.

Either way, now that I’m all “caught up” on what I missed, I stick to what I said. The producers pimp Elliot’s backstory on the show. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, you try to play up the interesting factoids and quirks that make a contestant appealing. I guess the lumbermill in North Carolina was a little too similar to Kellie, so they decided to take Chris in a different direction with him. Fair enough.

As far as pimping goes… again, I was watching the earlier episodes. I don’t think think it’s as much the producers playing favorites as much as Chris geing a genuine surprise. His first couple performances completely blew me (and the judges) away– he’s got such a natural, professional stage presence about him, which some of the “lesser” contestants were sorely lacking. Not to say that there aren’t other contestants that haven’t evolved since then. On the contrary, it’s kinda cool to see how far Elliot and Kat have come from their initial auditions, and I think they’d be great contenders for the finals. Taylor seems to be more in the Chris category in that he’s been doing it for a while and already knew his comfort zone on stage.

My point is, it’s really easy to mix-up talent and favoritism, especially because they’re sometimes intertwined. Once in a while, though, maybe the recognition is deserved. This late in the game, all contestants are gonna be getting lots of attention, so I think the talent will naturally just speak for itself.

A lot of peeps yapping about Elliot not moving around on stage. Did it ever occur to you guys that he has to stay put for a reason? He’s 90% deaf and probably has to stay still to pay attention to his own voice. Moving around probably distracts him too much from listening to his own voice to see if it’s in tune. I don’t care to see him move, I just want to HEAR him.

am an elliott fan but i have to be honest…
when i watch him, it does nothing to me. but when i listen to his mp3s, it’s all i listen to everyday. i guess i continue to vote for him nonstop and only him because i know that i’ll be enjoying HEARING his voice on mp3s. i feel that i’m not loyal enough of a fan because if i am loyal, i should be able to embrace everything about him, including his stage presence. every week, i’m hoping for a miracle that his moves and facial expression would be consistent with his expressive, powerful voice. (at times his hand movements were awkward like he’s on a debate with the Pres. or his hands & feet are out of beat). FORGIVE ME YAMIN FANS FOR SOUNDING BRUTAL. Sophia (#412), it’s interesting that you think that the producers pimp Elliott’s backstory, but can’t see their favoritism toward Chris. If anyone has been a “surprise” in this competition, it’s Elliott. He, Bucky and Melissa were the only contestants who got into the Top 12 without a backstory. As for Chris, what stuck with me the most from his audition, and made me root for him, was not so much his singing (which *was* good) as what his wife said about him. It really said a lot about both of them, and I’m glad we got to know this, because even though someone’s voice is the most important factor to me in this competition, their character is important, too. Anyway, they mention those stories, because they work. The difference between Chris and Elliott’s ones is that Chris’ had more time to take an effect. But I wouldn’t say that either of their stories has been used for pimping. I think they only did it with Kellie’s backstory, and that backfired in many ways.

Yes, Elliott’s been pimped, too. But it had nothing to do with his backstory, and all with his voice. When he was in the bottom 3 after the Queen night, he got major tongue bath before and after they made him sing. It even looked as if they made them all sing just for the opportunity to give all the love to Elliott. And it was great to see, because after all it is a singing competition. He also got some extra attention from Ryan that night, but at the same time Ryan’s obsession with Elliott’s perspiration might have turned some people off. And if Elliott wanted to use his backstory, he could just reply that his diabetes has something to do with it. But he never has.

Back to Chris. It’s been obvious from some time that he’s the Chosen One. Was he from the beginning? Probably not. I think Ace might have been. Or even Kellie. They want a white boy this year, but then again they might’ve thought that Kellie, like Carrie, could’ve sold a lot of records as a country singer. And it’s about money. They’re looking for someone who they think will be the most marketable. It’s not to say that Chris doesn’t have talent. But is he the best singer from the whole bunch? I don’t think so. But he’s still good enough to be there, and to win it.

Personally I would like Elliott to win, because I think he has the best voice and would benefit most from it, but if he makes the Top 3, I’ll be happy. Right now I just want to watch him go home with a “Top 3″ visit and cry himself silly when he gets the keys to the city, etc. That said, at this point hopefully all 4 of them have gotten enough exposure and will make it despite of who wins it, and in which order the rest will get eliminated. They all have talent and really seem like great people, and it’s sad to see all the fans turning against one another and ripping into their favorites’ rivals just because they are there. I understand people criticizing them for what they can control, which is how they sing and behave on the show. They’re not responsible for how the producers feel about them or use them to get what they want.

Thanks for your reply. Although I must respectfully disagree with a couple minor things, overall you’re point is very well taken.

If I ever meant to imply that Chris wasn’t favored from early on, that was my mistake, because it’s true. I just think it’s well-deserved. I was watching some of the other other male contestants from Top 24, 20, etc. Cheese factor to the MAX. In the earlier rounds, I think Chris did get a jumpstart on the competition, because at that point, his game was so far ahead from everybody else. But it’s been like, 12 weeks, other contestants have finally caught up to his level, and he’s still managed to hold his own. Maybe some of the novelty has worn off, but I think he’s got enough his talent to be a deserving contender.

That being said, there’s no denying that AI is a market that wants to make money. They probably saw Chris as a way to cash in bigtime. It’s also a TV program that wants an audience, so what better way to do that then with drama? They hit the mother lode with Kellie. But you’re absolutely right in saying that besides Kellie, most of the contestants didn’t try to milk their backstory for votes. I think that speaks very well for all of them, particularly Elliot and Chris who I think are some of the most humble, classiest contestants we’ve seen in the show.

So yes, I have my favorite, and he’s the only contestant whose album I would buy and listen to. But I really like this top 4, because I think you could make a case for all of them as winners.

I was watching EXTRA the other day, and Simon Cowell was on, and he was giving his 2 cents about the top five.

He said that he never thought Paris was going to win.

He said that the two favorites were Taylor and Chris.

And he mentioned that the dark horse of the competition was Katharine.

He never once mentioned Elliott.

The nerve!

Elliott fans need to unite and show Simon and all the betmakers that Elliott should get more (any) respect. Doesn’t top four mean anything to them?

Chris has already reserved a spot in the finals thanks to tptb. And his legions of young fans will see him to it no matter how much his voice grates on next week’s performance.

Taylor seems to be safe until the finals as well. He’s had the most airtime before the top 24, and started out with the highest amount of votes. And, since he’s the new poster boy for vftw, it seems he’ll be impossible to overcome and will win the competition (unless tptb have anyway to stop him)

So this leaves Kat or E-dub for elimination. Kat has had a few bad performances, but they were covered up the following weeks with over-the-top appraisal from Simon (in a sign of desperation) and skimpy outfits. A couple weeks ago, she was one of the top 2 vote getters (behind Chris, most likely), but this has probably changed due to Taylor’s newly founded “asshole patrol” and she’s behind him now.

Elliott started out with nearly zero support starting this competition, but that changed throughout the weeks after he gives us some nearly-flawless performances, week-after-week. He’s the only contestant left on the show who didn’t get any background performers on stage with him. Taylor had one during Country week, Chris had two guitarists during love songs week, and Kat got two box-drummers this last week. Poor Elliott has had to last by himself without any extra help.

I hear so many people use the words “Total Package” to describe what they look for in an American Idol meaning someone who has the looks and singing and stage presence all wrapped up with a bow on it. Maybe this is what we had last year but when I look at most past winners and runners up I don’t see that any of them were the “Total Package”. I don’t know where people got the idea this is what American Idol is about but it speaks of the shallowness of our celebrity obsessed culture that we are looking for that instead of someone who inspires us with their singing and personality and rise from obscurity backstory. To me the one with the real “Total Package” is Elliott Yamin.

If Chris is indeed the “chosen one,” it’s not because he has the best voice or the most talent. Anyone who thinks he has the best voice in the competition is biased towards pop-rock (or deaf), because Paris, Elliott, Gedeon, Lisa, Mandisa, and maybe even Taylor have voices superior to Chris’. Don’t try to justify his winning by mentioning his voice, because THAT is not why he’s popular.

If he is destined to win, it’s because the producers want someone who will appeal to the greatest denominator RIGHT NOW. Britney Spears and many other “artists” have been very popular, but they aren’t necessarily good singers. They just appeal to whatever impulse it is in people that makes them spend money, no matter how superficial or deaf that impulse is.

Kelly Clarkson, Ruben, Fantasia, and Carrie were all excellent talents, and I thought they all deserved to win, or at least be in the final 2. Chris, however, will be the first person I see possibly winning who will NOT deserve it. If it changes his life for the better, good for him, but he will have won not because he’s the best, but because he’s “current.” That’s more a matter of luck than talent.

Why should America vote for people who only reflect the shallowness of what these companies already seek out (sexy, but mediocre Katharine or stereotypical-altrocker Chris) when we can boost up contestants like Taylor, Elliott, and Paris?

Elliott is my favorite contestant, but I admit that at least Taylor and Paris are refreshing and original. Chris and Katharine, however, are just the same old, same old, going through the motions of a talent competition. Been there, seen that, didn’t buy the t-shirt because everyone else is wearing it, you know?

I don’t think by a second that Chris has the best voice, no way… but we’ve been watching the show for a long time now, and we know so much that it is not about the singing… The voice has to be carrie-underwood-amazing to be superior and to beat a great performer, like Bo. Producers dont want a tenor or a soprano or the best singer in the world, because it’s so much more than that to be succesfull.. look all the rapers, they can barely talk, and yet they have millions of records..

Chris Daughtry NEEDS to be the winner of this competition! Because he’s so commercial and can be mold to any type of rock or alternative song… I think he’s great! He’s something entirely new in this competition, and super better than Constantine and Bo… by a Mile!

I think Elliott MIGHT do the best after this competition is over. I’ve already heard countless amount of times that people would be the “first one in line for his album.” His voice is the most universal. People from all across the world seem to be behind Elliott 100% (especially in Europe, Asia and Canada)whereas Chris’s voice and style may not be as appreciated as much.

Of course Chris will win this competition, but I don’t really see his career getting BIG, especially out of America. Maybe the fact that he was on American idol could decrease any possible rock fans considering his CD for purchase, because we all have to admit, AI is really quite cheesy.

Most of the people who watch American idol are younger, and are the type of people that would vote for and probably buy Chris’ CD when it comes out.

However, there are SO much more older, sophisticted music listeners that Elliott’s personality and voice would be attracted to. But, these types of people don’t watch American Idol, therefore not voting for him. But once they hear him on radio, he’ll go BIG.I don’t think Chris will get anymore fans other than the ones he’s already got now voting for him, whereas Elliott’s fanbase will only get bigger after AI.

However, Elliott just might disappear into obscurity once the competition is over unless somebody already has an eye on him for a contract, and if he gets his voice on radio, which is probably the best thing that the winner of AI gets. Most runner ups in AI fail miserably because they don’t ever get the radio play that the winners receive, so none of their fans would ever know that he/she has made a CD. I hope Elliott makes it to the top 3-1 so he could at least be given a chance.

Just my opinions.

I’m gonna miss Paris. She has the most powerful voice of the Season! She just didn’t know how to use it to the utmost advantage. Can’t wait to hear her CD!

I hope Elliott is able to get into the TOP 3.. but he’s been in the bottom 2 or 3 several times now.. I don’t know what it’s gonna take for America to start voting MORE for him.. I guess if it’s meant to be it will be for Elliott! So far past Idol winner have only been in the bottom 3 once or zero times.. so I wish Elliott could win, but the chances look pretty slim. If he gets voted off then I’m rooting for Taylor.. he seems like such a great guy, and has an endearing voice.. my favoring performances from him have been “The First Cut is the Deepest” (during the Hollywood round- I just loved how he performed it) & “Levon (during the top 24 round).. since then nothing has particularly caught my attention though the beatle song “Something” was rather good as well. I’m still waiting for him to do “Georgia On My Mind” – Hopefully he will b/c I’m sure that will definitely be his shining moment.

But none of them have touched me the way Elliott has. He is a great person inside and out with a wonderful voice and soul.

After reading all these posts – well, not all – I’m beginning to get this feeling that Elliot’s fans REALLY dislike Katharine for some reasons. Sorry, but I have to disagree with you guys, I don’t think he’s better than Katharine. And the “slut” comment that has been thrown around here is truly uncalled for. I’d call that funny, and low…is that how people’d act when they’re desperate? I hope not.

I personally believe, no matter what happens, Katharine is still the best overall vocalist out of the bunch and my votes will always go to her. and OH! I’m not tone-deaf either, I teach piano…so my ears should be just fine or at least that’s how I think. I’ll also say that her beauty doesn’t mean much to me coz I’m a married woman and I’m not gay, thus I vote for someone that I think SOUNDS the best. And that person happens to be Katharine. Mandy, I agree. Trashing other contestants won’t do our favorites, whoever they are, any good. But I guess some people are a little tense at this point of the game. It always happens, unfortunately. But I think it’s more about fear of losing their favorite (and never seeing them again), than really hating anyone else’s.

I’m an Elliott’s fan, and I like Kat. I don’t get any bad vibes from her. I think she’s talented and really gorgeous. Also seems like a sweet girl. She shouldn’t try to be another Mariah/Whitney, though, because she’s not that kind of a singer. When I first saw her, I thought about Norah Jones, and I think it would suit her much better if she went in that direction.

Post 445 IdolFan. It is interesting how we see things. I also watched the recent elimination program very carefully.

I noticed that Katherine, Paris and Elliott have really good rapport.

I notice how Katherine slid closer to Elliott and held on to him while they heard which one would be safe and which one would be in B2. She never really looked happy any more that evening.
While waiting to find out if E or Paris would go, she was holding her hands in prayer fashion, and yes, when Paris was voted off, she showed, IMO, a certain satisfaction that it was Elliott who was staying.
Also, watch their body language in the back seat of the car in the commercial.
NOOOOO – I am not saying anything necessarily is going on between them. But they do appear to like each other a lot.

But, chuckle, I wouldn’t blame her, it’s hard to find a good man, and that is one thing Elliott is.

I don’t understand the opinion that Elliott will need to get into the top three to get a record deal. If I owned a record company and heard him sing If You Really Love Me I’d have signed him on the spot.The fact that over the weeks he’s grown and barely sung one duff note, never mind a whole song (apart from the Bryan Adams number – meh) is a testiment to his God-given vocal talent. I just have a feeling the Elliott would be huge here in the UK and he’d be the type of performer that would instantly gain a large, lifetime fanbase.

Love him, want him to go further so that I can hear his loveliness (and see his hotness) – not too bothered if he doesn’t win, as he won for me as soon as I heard IYRLM.

Regarding “The SMIRK”. I agree with Anne and Rexy (and then the others comming on later to suggest they either like each other as friends or “something could be clicking here”….. and that’s a nice idea, too). But… although when you view the recording of her face (do it in slow motion, too) there seems to be the start of a small smile, it possibly lasts for 1 tenth of the time her face is viewed for a few seconds. I had interpreted it to be a “Oh, good, my pal Elliott is safe.” But then she looked somber for the rest of the shot, possibly reflecting that another friend, Paris, was to leave. And as a Kat-Taylor fan, I have to admit that the most likeable of ALL contestants (from the past “ones eliminated”, also) he seems to be the most likeable and very talented.

To clarify things. My final sentence on # 473 was about ELLIOTT and Not Taylor. Better wording is, “Although I’m a Kat-Taylor fan, ELLIOTT seems to be not only very talented, but a down-to-earth nice guy with a great personality and would be nice to get to know.” Any girl could take him home to meet the parents (even if he COULDN’T sing) and be proud.

…it struck me this weekend that Elliott (though being counted out by many this coming week to be the next one voted off)…could pull off a fantastic (for us E fans) upset and still make it to the final 3 if the margin is narrow between the 4th and 3rd contestant.

I think many Paris fans may vote for Elliott if they didn’t become disenchanted with AI…and still watch the show & vote. I think Paris’ fans can and will easily make the leap to vote for Elliott because of their natural gift, similarity in vocal ability, their versatility and range of musical genres…plus the friendship/kinship it seems they developed over the weeks. The clip of Paris riding on Elliotts back and the hug they shared on the results show last week…was heart touching…and I’m sure it endeared many of Paris’ fans to Elliott.

If Elliott gives a good stage performance (no doubt the vocals will be incredible as usual)…and pick up the majority of Paris’ fan base…he could also garner votes from the “fence sitters” if Kat tempers her “babe-a-licious” rountine (doubt it) and hit a few off notes (as she usually does).

I just haven’t given up hope yet…Elliott still has a fightin’ chance this week…GO ELLIOTT!

Phew – I was so worried that the rumored songs I posted the other day would be the right ones, and am SOOOOOOOO grateful that E will not be singing Teddy Bear – that would surely have been the kiss of death.

As for him not picking the most well known songs, I think that was a damn good move on his part. When you hear an Elvis song you know, you automatically hear his version in your head, and your inclination will be to compare.

I think Taylor really picked some good ones
for him, as well as did Chris.

I’m not really an Elliott fan, but a HUGE Elvis fan and I think that he picked PERFECT songs for his voice. They are actually well known and were number one hits. I’m expecting chill for If I Can Dream. One of my favorite Elvis songs.

Chris did a good job picking his songs. I’m glad he;s not the one doing Jailhouse Rock. I’m sort of geeked about seeing him perform A Little Less Conversation. I remember that I enjoyed JPL’s version in season 3. I wonder if he’ll be on hand tonight as he is a big Elvis fan.

Taylor did good with In The Ghetto, but screwed up with Jailhouse Rock. He should’ve went with Burning Love (good fit for he personality) or Kentucky Rain. Can anyone else seeing him dancing around like Elvis, looking like a bafoon???

Katherine, well I think she could be packing her bags tomorrow night with those song choices. She needed to pick something more bluesy and soulful. Heartbreak Hotel and Memories would’ve been perfect.

If you look again at the picture of Elliott on Elvis.com…in his imitable fashion…Elliot is NOT taking a picture of himself…but is recording or taking a pic of the crowd outside the gates of Graceland and their vehicle. Once again, Elliott’s humility & humbleness is inherent…he never comes across with the “look-at-me-Im-a-star” mentality or tries to grab or hog the spotlight or microphone. (BTW, the pics do show who is in the mic & camera…but I’m not insinuating that this was a bad thing…Im sure they didn’t know what side of the car the media would be on when they got into the vehicle…and this IS a competition, too)

Let’s add to that this weeks TV Guide has a spread and feature on, GUESS WHO? Taylor, Chris & Kat and NO mention of Elliott. I clearly get that one contestant may stand out but to be this blatant? I do NOT want this to scare any Elliott fans, if anything it FUELS my fire to text and dial like crazy. Cameras may like the other three, ok they are pretty but I say to the producers, let the vote stand. Pimp those 3 all you want but let the votes count or are they prepared to scam 20-30 million people every week. I also say it is not fair to the other 3 because it sets up an uncomfortable situation. They did not ask for it. I just want to prove all of them wrong – what will they do if he stays? What’s to say that even if Elliott got enough votes, they would keep him?

American Idol: Itâ€šÃ„Ã´s Time to Take Elliott Yamin Seriously

I have some things I want to say about American Idol. Bear with me; it’s long, but I believe itâ€šÃ„Ã´s worth the read. Letâ€šÃ„Ã´s talk about fairness. The patent response to the question of fairness is typically, â€šÃ„Ãºlife isnâ€šÃ„Ã´t fair.â€šÃ„Ã¹ That may be true, but when one is in a position to make life fair, he/she should do everything in his/her power to make that happen.

“Disillusioned Idol”

At the very least, one should not go out of the way to make life unfair, but that is exactly what is happening to Elliott Yamin on American Idol.

American Idol is a â€šÃ„Ãºsingingâ€šÃ„Ã¹ (yes, I use the term loosely) competition with a viewership that has grown to the point of making this show one of the most watched on television. The supposed object of this study in human psychology is to have the American public choose the showâ€šÃ„Ã´s next superstar. When I first began watching this show in 2003, I was under the impression that the producers were searching for the best unknown, untapped talent, which they would then mold into a star. I was further under the impression that the show was designed for amateurs who had little or no entertainment experience but who possess vocal talents beyond belief. This year, that talent has materialized in the person of Elliott Yamin. I have not heard a voice this good since Luther Vandross died. Yes, heâ€šÃ„Ã´s â€šÃ„Ãºgreen,â€šÃ„Ã¹ but isnâ€šÃ„Ã´t that what the show is supposed to be about? Apparently, not anymore.

Many of the contestants have performed with bands for many years, and some even have CDs available for purchase (I own Taylor Hicksâ€šÃ„Ã´s â€šÃ„ÃºUnder the Radar,â€šÃ„Ã¹ where he sounds way better than he ever has on this show). Others have been trained in the art of voice for most of their lives or have honed their skills in beauty pageants and the like. The rules state that as long as these performers donâ€šÃ„Ã´t have recording contracts, they are eligible to participate in the show. That seems fair enough, at least on the surface; however, when truly untrained, inexperienced contestants are chosen for the show, those contestants are constantly compared to those with more experience and are told that â€šÃ„Ãºyou lack performance skills.â€šÃ„Ã¹ Interestingly, though Elliott is often accused of â€šÃ„Ãºlacking performance skills,â€šÃ„Ã¹ I fail to see the difference between his and Chris Daughtryâ€šÃ„Ã´s â€šÃ„Ãºperformance skills.â€šÃ„Ã¹ Chris typically stands in one spotâ€šÃ„Ã®just like Elliottâ€šÃ„Ã®except he cocks his head from side to side; I guess that more qualifies as â€šÃ„Ãºperforming.â€šÃ„Ã¹ At this point, the â€šÃ„Ãºsinging competitionâ€šÃ„Ã¹ is apparently no longer about the voice but about superficial issues, especially looks, which seems to be the sole focus of Simon Cowell.

When the season began this year, I tuned in because of Mandisa Hundley, to whom I have a personal connection. I was really impressed with Mandisa and began voting for her. When she was prematurely eliminated following â€šÃ„Ãºcountry night,â€šÃ„Ã¹ I had just about decided not to watch anymore. However, a friend of mine encouraged me to watch â€šÃ„ÃºQueen nightâ€šÃ„Ã¹ for the comic value, as she believed that none of the contestants save Mandisa could pull off a Queen song. She was wrong; that was the night I totally realized the talents of Elliott Yamin, and I have been rabidly voting for him ever since. This kid has yet to sing a note out of tune, he always chooses the hardest songs from the showâ€šÃ„Ã´s lists (and performs them really well), and he attacks each song with such enthusiasm that you canâ€šÃ„Ã´t help but pull for him. Each week, however, I sit in awe as the judges give him lukewarm receptions, even after Simon declared him â€šÃ„Ãºpossibly the best male vocalist we have had in five yearsâ€šÃ„Ã¹ upon his first appearance in the top 24 (pssstâ€šÃ„Ã¬Simon, heâ€šÃ„Ã´s the best vocalist youâ€šÃ„Ã´ve ever had, period).

From the time the show began this year, Simon has been quoted as saying that, â€šÃ„Ãºeither Taylor, Chris, or Kellie will win this year.â€šÃ„Ã¹ Now that Kellie has been eliminated, it is now â€šÃ„Ãºeither Taylor or Chrisâ€šÃ„Ã¹ who will win, â€šÃ„Ãºwith Katharine a close third.â€šÃ„Ã¹ I hate to tell Simon, but there are still four contestants in this competition. He appeared on Good Morning America on Thursday morning following eliminations and spoke of Taylor, Chris, and Katharine as if they are the only remaining contestants in the running. Perhaps, in his mind, they are. Prior to Simonâ€šÃ„Ã´s blatant disregard of Elliott Yamin, Nigel Lythgoe, the showâ€šÃ„Ã´s executive producer, appeared on a radio talk show on elimination day, apparently, to do no more than to denigrate Elliott Yamin and Paris Bennett, while praising Katharine McPhee, who was woefully off-key on her first song. By the way, Simon was right the first time about Katharineâ€šÃ„Ã´s performance of â€šÃ„ÃºI Have Nothing;â€šÃ„Ã¹ Vonzell Solomon, who was also ignored by this show last year, did a much better version. While Nigel had no problem saying on the radio that Elliott did a â€šÃ„Ãºpoorâ€šÃ„Ã¹ job of â€šÃ„ÃºOn Broadwayâ€šÃ„Ã¹ and that â€šÃ„ÃºScotty Savol did a better version last year,â€šÃ„Ã¹ notice that he never mentioned Vonzellâ€šÃ„Ã´s better version of Katharineâ€šÃ„Ã´s song.

Meanwhile, Randy was heard on the Ellen DeGeneres show, singing the praises of Chris Daughtry (or â€šÃ„Ãºpimping Chris,” as the showâ€šÃ„Ã´s fans are wont to say), and when Ellen inquired about Elliott, Randyâ€šÃ„Ã´s response was, â€šÃ„ÃºHeâ€šÃ„Ã´ll never win.â€šÃ„Ã¹ To get to my point, American Idol is supposed to be a show in which the American public chooses the next pop superstar, but Iâ€šÃ„Ã´m driven to ask how America can choose when the very people who created the show go out into the public arena with the purpose of manipulating the public into voting for who they want? Why not just take the public out of the mix and choose for themselves? Iâ€šÃ„Ã´m beginning to totally miss the point of the American publicâ€šÃ„Ã´s votes.

Many people will wonder why I care; after all, it is â€šÃ„Ãºonly a TV show.â€šÃ„Ã¹ That may be true, but I am supposed to be able to cast my votes for whomever I choose, preferably, without the judges and producers attempting to send me subliminal messages about whom to choose. I resent the manipulations that go on behind this show, and I resent it even more when an extremely talented young man is being pushed to the background because the powers that be at this show for some reason do not desire to see him succeed. I am frankly appalled at the behavior of these so-called professionals. Because of early negative discussions about Elliott’s looks (which I see absolutely nothing wrong with), I believe the producers and judges of American Idol fail to see Elliottâ€šÃ„Ã´s marketability. What a negative message to give to the world: “Only the beautiful need apply.” Where does that leave the rest of us? However, I digress. Letâ€šÃ„Ã´s just examine how marketable Elliott Yamin might possibly be in the real world.

I am a huge music fan, owning in excess of 300 fairly current CDs; I buy at least one CD every other week or so. I love music, but most of all, I love good music. I have downloaded every one of Elliottâ€šÃ„Ã´s performances to my MP3 and have burned a CD for myself, hoping that will hold me until he makes a real one. The night that Elliott sang â€šÃ„ÃºA Song For You,â€šÃ„Ã¹ he shared with the audience that he would like nothing more than to â€šÃ„Ãºbring Donny Hathawayâ€šÃ„Ã´s music back to the forefront.â€šÃ„Ã¹ That night, Donny Hathawayâ€šÃ„Ã´s greatest hits languished in position number 4,205 on Amazon.com. Today, the CD is at #523, down from #460 yesterday and, reportedly, went as high as #5. These numbers are no coincidence. The reviews by purchasers heartwarmingly thank Elliott for introducing them to Donny Hathaway’s music. Everyone with whom I work who watches this show and who used to vote for various other contestants now all vote for Elliott Yamin. Personally, I believe Elliott to be extremely marketable in the R&B/soul, jazz, and pop genres, but the problem for the producers and judges of this show is that he doesnâ€šÃ„Ã´t hit their coveted demographic of 18 to 25 year olds, whom they believe to hold the purchasing power in music. I beg to differ. I work with a woman, who is in her early 40s, who refuses to buy music today because the emphasis has been taken from singing ability to looks; she also now owns an Elliott Yamin â€šÃ„Ãºhomemadeâ€šÃ„Ã¹ CD. Heâ€šÃ„Ã´s not marketable? Again, I beg to differ.

Bottom line, regardless of who the producers and judges want to win this thing, they should allow the contest to fairly proceed. Going on television and radio to denigrate or ignore one of the contestants is not only childish and mean, it is downright ugly. I give props to Paula for being the only person from this show who does not engage in such mean-spirited, unprofessional behavior. This behavior is inappropriate, and it needs to stop. For me, this will be my last season watching this show or contributing to its growth. Each year that I have watched this show, I have attended the concerts, bought memorabilia at the concerts, and bought the compilation CDs. Not this year. Thank God for downloading; I will be purchasing via download Mandisaâ€šÃ„Ã´s and Elliottâ€šÃ„Ã´s songs from the compilation CD, but no way would I purchase the whole thing now. Iâ€šÃ„Ã´m willing to give Idol $1.80, but thatâ€šÃ„Ã´s about it. No concert, no souvenirs, no nothing. I am sick to death of the behavior of this showâ€šÃ„Ã´s executive producer and two of its judges; they make me literally ill. I am so sure the producers could care less about one person refusing to watch them purposely hurt people on live television, but they should consider that, perhaps, I am not the only one who feels this way. Following the year that Ruben Studdard won the title, conspiracy theories and claims of rigging could be found just about anywhere on the Internet. I chose not to buy into such talk, as I found the very thought ridiculous. Now, however, I am starting to change my mind, given the behavior of Idolâ€šÃ„Ã´s executive producer and Simonâ€šÃ„Ã´s apparent psychic abilities of predicting who will win and why. If Elliott Yamin is eliminated next Wednesday, I will be a full-fledged believer in rigging and conspiracy theories at this show. After all, Simon has predicted it to be so.

In the final analysis, AI needs to check itself. Their treatment of Elliott Yamin this year is an embarrassment. I thought they treated Clay Aikenâ€šÃ„Ã¬who went on to outsell AIâ€šÃ„Ã´s winnerâ€šÃ„Ã¬badly, but compared to the showâ€šÃ„Ã´s treatment of Elliott this year, they treated Clay like a king. My hope and prayer is that Elliott lands in the right hands, and when he outsells the AI cookie-cutter winner this year, AIâ€šÃ„Ã´s executive producer will take a step back and look at his, Randy Jackson, and Simon Cowellâ€šÃ„Ã´s behavior and how that behavior affects others. Itâ€šÃ„Ã´s one thing to make money; itâ€šÃ„Ã´s another to purposely hurt people to make money. Shame on all of them. My further hope and prayer is that talented singers such as Elliott Yamin, Mandisa Hundley, and Paris Bennett find a better, more fair outlet for their talent, and I can, once again, enjoy seeing new talent discovered on television.

That was a well done article in post #498, and expresses some of my thoughts almost verbatim, although I am/was more focused on the poor treatment of Paris than of Elliot by the Judges and the producers. It was so obvious Paris was going home the night that she did, because she had virtually no air time on Tuesday or Wednesday in the promo junk. The biggest knock on her besides being young was that she hadn’t found a style of her own. Yet each week the idols are forced to sing genre songs that more often than not have nothing to do with what each does best. I echo earlier posts. Forget the theme nights. Let the contestants sing what they want. Some will break out some new takes on songs outside of their comfort zones, but to force Mandisa to sing a country song or Taylor to sing a Queen song is ridiculous. (Although I didn’t think either did too badly, all things considered.) I know Chris and Kat fans get upset when they perceive their favorites bashed, and I mean no one any disrespect but neither of them in my view is an outstanding vocalist. Both can pull off certain genres and certain songs. Both are physically attractive, and seem like nice people. Neither does anything to separate themselves from the gazillions of talented vocalists. Paris and Elliot separate themselves by their innate vocal gifts and range. I admire both for their willingness to take risks and sing the most difficult, challenging songs. Neither has ever missed a note from what I’ve heard from them. Taylor is fascinating to watch because his obvious passion for music just grabs you and holds you tight. I expect the finalists to be Kat and Chris. America’s favorite flavor is apparently vanilla. Too bad.

Great post 498. It’s so amazing how someone who’s had to live such a bad life (his health, high school…) Is able to still maintain his humbleness and take every moment with pride. He undoubtedly knows of the better treatment the other three are getting before him. But, he takes it all in stride and never gives up. His journey is tear-inducing and if he wins it would be a great story. DON’T LET HIM GO HOME!! VOTE LIKE CRAZY!!!!!!

I am thoroughly disgusted with AI’s treatment or lack thereof of Elliott. The fact that TvGuide couldn’t even profile his hometown is ashamedly absurd and I can’t even find the words to express how outraged I am about the producers’ pimping of certain contestants. It has got to STOP. And the only way it can is if we fans vote vote vote for him.
