I think Dilana has settled down in her role as the front-runner for winning this. She’s lost a lot of the wacko-scary stuff from beginning which is good.

Meanwhile, Zayra dresses up as Rock Star Woman!

Storm Large shows her “real” side. She’s a pop/Broadway singer trying to act her way into a rock band. If she was any younger she would be perfect for American Idol! I wonder if she ever auditioned.

josh’s santeria performance was incredible tonight, totally awesome. and while i agree that zayra is “entertaining” in a sick, demented sort of way, i disagree with the judges that she should be kept on the show simply for that reason.. completely ignoring the fact that she can’t sing for crap and she doesn’t match the band. it’s not fair to the other contestants to keep her just because she acts like a retard and makes people “ooh” and “ahh”. tonight she did make a good arrangement with that song, i only wish she could have had someone else sing it.

Honestly – bc rickey’s site is so popular, I bet you he would get in some trouble if he put mp3’s of rockstar. AI was different – they weren’t selling the performances.

People who did really well tonight: Ryan (he’ll get the encore), Dilana (who is going to take it all), Josh, and Magni. I don’t care how entertaining Zayra is – she needs to go. But amazingly, I think I’d rather have Jill go first. Ah, if only we could kick off 2 or 3 at a time during the first few episodes.

It was like viewing a car crash, watching Zayra sing. I was ready to change the channel but decided to watch/listen to the end. Ick. I’d always liked that song, too. She sung the lyrics, but I don’t know to what tune. Zayra is entertaining insofar it can be fun to watch someone make a fool of herself on national TV week after week. My, that was painful!

Dilana’s voice is awesome. She wins me over every week with her voice, and she’s an awesome entertainer. It would be cool for a girl to win this, too. She reminds me of some great 80s rock chicks only with a new edge. Love her!

I also LOVED Ryan’s version of “Losing My Religion.” I’ve always loved that song, and he made it his own. It was a very powerful, emotional performance. His voice was awesome on it. GREAT JOB!

I agree that Dilana and Magni are terrific.
Who do you suppose are the 3 that wouldn’t be eaten alive by Supernova, per Dave’s remark after Patrice’s performance. I think that Ryan opened their eyes and ears to someething new from him and also Storm is “Large” enough for the band. I don’t think Magni’s voice is strong enough and I have loved Dilana from the start but also wonder how long her vocal chords will hold out. (I guess a year is all they need to worry about!)

Wonder if it is too much to hope for them to send home Jill and Zayra tonight?

Reading between the lines of how Supernova explained keeping Zayra, I think the main reason why sheâ€šÃ„Ã´s still around is that clips of her crazyass performances always seem to make it onto shows like â€šÃ„ÃºBest Week Everâ€šÃ„Ã¹…which translates into extra publicity for the band.

Because of that, I agree with Rock Critic (#14) and am guessing that Zayra will be kept around for yet ANOTHER week. Tonight it will probably be Jill (because she was bad) or Josh (because his style clearly isnâ€šÃ„Ã´t what theyâ€šÃ„Ã´re looking for).

Dilana wins again. Can she turn in great performances week after week through the rest of the show? Have yet to see anyone do it on any talent show, but so far she bats a thousand on singing and stage presence, and she has certainly earned the admiration of the band off stage as well, i.e. her interactions with the other contestants, her lack of “attitude”, perfectionist character and refusal to compete for the rockstar ho-bag title.
Zayra. What can I say? To take off on Navarro’s comment to faceless male contestant number 3, I sure wouldn’t get up to get a beer when I know she’s onstage. Aside from the ridiculous costume and calisthentics, she did a decent job on the vocal, and props for demanding that the band do it her way rather than their “the way it was intended”. I think she has a future in latin markets. Yes she is wrong for the band, and yes sometimes she is horrible, but I can think of at least three contestants who don’t have any better chance than she does to win this contest and they are much less entertaining, original and daring–so I hope she stays on for a few more weeks at the expense of the others.
GO HOME JILL. PLEASE!
Ryan and Magni were the best of the guys last night. Lukas sounded better vocally, but bad move to sing with back turned.
Josh on Santeria, good song, but don’t think it was an inspired interpretation. It was bubblegummy and just ok.
Dana: Still not a believable hard rocker. It’s like she is trying out for the rock chick part in a high school musical now.
Storm: I was bored. Big deal–she wore a suit and sang a ballad. Wasn’t a killer vocal, therefore Blah.
Patrice: Better than last Tuesday but she did get drowned out. If the band is looking for someone who will showcase their guitars and drums rather than a lead singer that will become the band’s face and identity–Patrice may be the one, or Magni.
If I missed anyone he/she was forgettable.
Oh yeah Toby. Forgettable.

i think its high time that i need to convey my views to all about our favorite show ROCKSTAR. i loved it last year and this year, i will, too. i don’t think whatever vibes the internet is creating about the contestants are that much closer to truth. “meanwhile i am a pro wannabe amateur musician and a true rock addict”.

as you all know the band in quest for a vocalist is SUPERNOVA.

tommy lee – drums. a total freaky kind of a bad guy. great drummer, really great.
gilby clark – lead. good looking, cheerful, nice guy. a real pro.the best music brain in the bunch, i feel.
jason newstead – bass. a intense passionate guy. good in bass.

let me put forward what i feel about this years contestants.

first of all the the GONE guys

MATT HOFFER – matt who? “yellow” was good, but doesn’t belong to here

JENNY GALT – doesn’t look good on stage at all.

CHRIS PIERSON – i think he was sacrificed. he was more rock than a few, like dana, zayra, josh and maybe even phil ritchie, storm and jill. but i think he drowned in pressure when he defamed “roxanne”. that was, maybe a bad first impression for the judges and fans.

PHIL RITCHIE – what you do sow is what you reap, if u know what i mean! i think the head babble and his looks are quite “The Killers/ Wallflowers – ish”. not right for supernova, yet relevent in contemporary rock scenario.

the POOR guys

ZAYRA ALVAREZ – i don’t like her for a simple reason. rock performnce is all about energy and bla..bla..bla..but she’s off pitch every week. clearly the weakest singer. like gilby clarke once said about female performers she has only sex to sell and that’s ‘cheap’. she should have gone before chris, that’s for sure. u guys please don’t vote for her.

JILL GIOIA – OK voice, powerful. but she cannot command your attention. all her experiments fail miserably. she’s a bomb, “a wet bomb”.

DANA ANDREWS – i still cannot forgive her for “it’s my life”, that not just ‘not rock’ but a weak singing performance. she rates her high, but the other rockers donot. that proves she’s not in the league of the rest. she may get better by age, though.i don’t think she’s that pretty either.

the AVERAGE guys

JOSH LOGAN – i think his time is near. i still recall how bad his “with arms wide open” was for rock music. very very very good singer but reluctant in showing his rocker side. his “come as you are” was good by the way.

STORM LARGE – soooo hot! sure, her sexiness make men spill votes like cum. that’s not good. she’s a good performer, not a rocker. i urge u guys not to get carried away by her sexuality and put the other rockers in trouble. this week “changes” was really good.

the GOOD guys

PATRICE PIKE – an alternative version of the great “alanis morissette”. looks good on stage. i think she and gilby will have good chemistry on stage. really good, can surprise u like ’suzie’ last year.

TOBY RAND – good singer/ performer.good looking boy too. with due respect i am telling this. his lack of depth of voice puts him in the league of “the all american rejects”. the low range is not that good, remember “white wedding”. will make a great record if he takes the “backstreet – never gone + all american rejects” way.

LUKAS ROSSI – looks “green day – ish”. sounds unique. but he has to open up a bit and sound a bit more of “green day + lukas” to succeed and protect his voice. i am really concerned about his voice. “a bitter sweet symphony” was his best so far. tommy lee will be his man.

RYAN STAR – i see most people writing him off. from week one i saw something in him. an enigmatic star value. an common man looking intense rocker like coldplays “chris martin” and pearl jam’s “eddie, i think”. the arm around the tummy thing is great. he is spot on in his pitching. great singer. last 2 weeks he started peaking. his man will be jason. his “losing my religion” should receive encore. i am writing this because i want u fans to open your eyes to true talents like him.don’t you see the fellow rockers respect him!

the GREAT guys

DILANA – u make me wanna.. good looks, costumes, voice, intense performances, lovely by heart and scary, yet adorable. a real star. the best in the bunch. every week, greatness pours into her performance. “lithium”, “rings of fire”, grrrrreat. will share great chemistry with tommy lee.

MAGNI – already a star. a real pro. everything except first week, “really good”. “plush” was phenomenal, “clocks” too. handsome family man. he is ‘bald and beautiful’. a real leader, my first choice for supernova as he and gilby, the lead guitarist are alike with contrasting looks. great chemistry.

as you know the leads [vocal and guitar] and the bass n’ drums are like 2 sections in a rock band. i think a lead singer – guitarist chemistry on stage is important. but that’s just my choice. how about you! i am a fan of dilana and magni. i love lukas and ryan too.

Let me burden you with my unqualified opinions. I promise I’ll only do this once……

DANA-Why did they end the show with Dana? She’s a cute girl but I feel that she is still trying to find her real center, right now she’s just mimicking the moves and the look of what she thinks makes a successful rock star. Her Baba O’Reilly was totally mediocre next to the version of Jordis (I miss her, what is she doing these days).

STORM-Storm is a pretty, pretty lady. Not quite right for the band but capable of leading her own group to success, following in the footsteps of Courtney Love and Hole.

JOSH-Josh is popular with the younger girls because he’s a milder, watered down version of a real rocker. Soft core. He’s talented but in this show he’s just a really entertaining intermission for the real contenders.

MAGNI-Magni is difficult to read. Because he’s already famous in his homeland he already has a bit of an attitude. Which is alright since he can totally rock out. Can’t see an Icelander fronting Supernova for the life of me though. Magni’s great but he’s just not right for the band either.

LUKAS-Lukas, oh Lukas. Sometimes he gets so involved with posturing and looking like a rock star that he doesn’t deliver. He’s afraid of using his real voice because ti’s probably pretty, not rough like he tries to squeeze out week after week. He’s gone from no. 1 to no. 3 in my book. But I’m still waiting for that breakthrough moment……

RYAN-Speaking of breakthrough moments, Ryan’s piano solo was fantastic. Up until that performance, I kept mixing him up with Toby or Josh. If he kills hix next performance he’ll have a shot at the final 3. Unfortunately, his generic looks are working against him.

TOBY-Toby’s a cute guy. Maybe too cute, not enough edge. Unless he busts out with some raw Navarroesque sex god energy soon, he’s gonna get really boring in a few weeks.

PATRICE-Hard edge but not very exciting. Weird attitude too. Insecure and defensive at the same time, she’s more like Jill than she’ll ever admit. Sure she can sing but she doesn’t have the kind of star quality to lead a band like Supernova.

JILL-Heyho Jillie, go home. Effing irritating. She thinks she’s being an empowered female when all she’s really doing is being a whining nag. Diva ditz……she attracts bad adjectives.

ZAYRA-Let’s just get this over with. I understand all the reasons why they keep her around, but I don’t care. I can’t stand her anymore. I guess she doesn’t realize she’s the source of some very low-brow comedy.

DILANA-I forget how tiny she is when she’s by herself on stage but she looked mighty small singing in fron tof the guys. Killer voice, great attitude. Crazy enough to scare Tommy Lee but cool enough to be liked by the public. She deserves the job the most but I’m not so sure she’s actually going to get it.

I just don’t get how people like Dilana’s voice. I thought she butchered the vocals tonite and most every night. She is so likable, such a great performer, and has a great look, but seriously, that voice left in the 70’s when the women sounded more manly than the men (like Janis Joplin). I just don’t get why every one likes her. I’m the oddball, but all I know is that there are probably only 4 people on the show that I might buy the album if they sang it:

Toby
Storm
Josh (because he’s a former band mate of mine, but not really a rocker)

Now, another thing. How about SuperNova’s crappy songs? Hopefully the song they give the guys this week is better than the crap they’ve been peddling.

Is: I agree. I miss Jordis. So when Dana did did Baba O’Reilly, all I could hear was Jordis’ WOW-version of that song. Not fair to Dana, but….

About Dilana’s voice: I keep waiting to hear her full range. Her speaking voice is higher than her singing voice, so I think there’s more there. And I really adore her. I’d see her in concert….

I second everything Sandy said except I want Zayra to stay around a little longer cuz she makes me shake my head in wonder and disbelief.

If I were king I would eliminate them in the following order:
(Now that Dana is mercifully gone…)
Jill–And not a moment too soon for me.
Toby/Josh/Patrice–doesn’t matter which order here.
Zayra–Show now begins to take itself seriously…
Storm (I wouldn’t mind seeing her go before Zayra, but there comes a point when reality must finally bite.)
Ryan–he only avoids the Toby/Josh/Patrice sector because of his last performance-I am assuming he could keep up the momentum.

I am not reminded of TTurner when watching Dilana. Dilana’s voice reminds me a little of JJoplin, but her performances are pretty unique.
Maybe Lee,Clark and Newsted want someone to blend in with the band instead of leading it, but that pretty much means Magni or Patrice. I guess we will see what they want, but I don’t see them encouraging that kind of conventional rocker persona. They are asking the contestants to bring something different every week which implies to me that they want someone with a more unique and memorable voice and presence who might appeal to a broader audience than GnR,Metallica,MCrue, but with a similarly hard-edged vibe. To me Dilana fits that bill.
Maybe you are right though, Strummer. Them is some pretty big egos judging this crew. Dilana would be the face of the band I think if she won and they had any success. So we’ll see.

I’m a bit disapointed in our boy from Oz this year, Toby can sing but he is no Mig. I’m not sure why the girls like him so much either, he looks like every other blond haired surfer you will see cruising Bondi or Coogee Beach. The stuff that comes out of his mouth too, he is really milking the sterotypical aussie slang. It’s so anoying, Mig didn’t feel the need to do that.
He will go far though, only one Australian with a whole country to vote for him. Dave Navaro hates him, but the Supernover boys seem to like him!

I hope Ryan or Storm win, though Dilana seems more in the Supernova guys’s age group.

Ryan did a good job on “loosing my religion”, but I though Suzie McNeal’s version last year rocked too! I have the MP3. I also have Jordis’s Baba O’Reily too! Dana has nothing on her!
