I adore Adam and think he deserves to win, but not gonna lie … I didn’t love it. “One” is one of my all time favourite songs, and I wasn’t crazy about Adam’s interpretation. I missed the buildup. Just didn’t work for me.

if that wasn’t SCREAMING, i don’t know what is. no wonder he lost the melody! he sounded like gokey last week. god. he will be in the finals, of course, and no doubt win. but it would be hillarious to see him not make it just to put the producers and judges in their places. why did they bother to even have this competition this year? they should have crowned adam back during the tryouts and been done with it.

Adam just blew it. And I’ve been a big fan of his and his only. ONE was horrible, Cryin’ he screamed half way through. Both were also his worst stage performance as well. He will make it to the finals, but will be runner up to Kris.

I love Adam and I like the song One. He sang it well it was just that the arrangement was a bit different and Aeorsmith song was fine but the backround singer was off. Your either a fan or your not. I personally have been of fan of Adam’s from day one and I would only vote for him and no one else regardless of tonight. He is the best one out of the 3 and totally deserves to be there. Danny and Kris were alright not the greatest either. Krsi is cute and all but he doesn’t have that srong of a voice and Danny is ok but not my style of music.

It was a mistake. I only found out a few minutes ago that I had embedded the wrong video.

After the show I do a chat show immediately with Jim and MJ and have to speed through these things. The chat takes about 30 minutes and then I wait for the update for Dancing with the Stars. That’s ONE HOUR. Just about now. I’m about to do another chat show now for 30 minutes more.

As a U2 fan, at first I didn’t want to accept Adam’s interpretation. Go listen to it again! He infuses it with meaning, a bit different from Bono, but with his own yearning from the heart. The shortened song is just too short to do this justice; it’s a song meant to be built up. But that’s not Adam’s fault. Listen to it again. One of my favorite songs of all time. Adam’s voice is beautiful here. Thanks for all the vids Rickey. I’m sure this is just a glitch, Kris’s video on Adam’s section. He was good tonight, too.

OK, I’m not voting for anybody this year. It took a lot out of me last year voting with 3 phones for David Archuleta. But, I will say that I LOVE Adam Lambert, and he should win this. My fav performances this season were by Adam, Ring of Fire (omg, that was so smoldering sexy), Mad World (my #1 fav) and Black & White. Besides the mad vocals that are other worldly, Adam comes across as polite, kind, genuine, and humble.

Kris Allen deserves to be in the finale with Adam. Besides Adam, he has been the most consistent and original. He is also polite, kind, genuine, and humble.

I cannot stand heartless Gokey, what a self-righteous faker. And what’s up with doing that ‘heart’ thing? Oh, could it be because he’s got a deal with Pearl Vision or whatever eye company it is? ONE: bad arrangement, not good execution. for me, a classic U2 song that has been mangled. The judges of course are blinded beyond their noses.

CRYIN: decent song choice I thot. execution again, not fantastic – screamish. for the first time, I felt that adam is a two-trick pony usually going for his first trick…the tongue-out wail! Anyone who says this is better than Aerosmith’s version is probably deaf and also blinded beyond fan love.

ONE: still does not hold. this song CANNOT be truncated. arrangement is off. backup singers let Adam down.

CRYIN: marginally better than the video version i watched. still his wail seems less ‘right’ to this song as compared to steven tyler.

Adam’s performance expression – e.g. his come hither looks, sneer, head jerk are, to me, looking very old-hat and are distracting to his overall performance.

Listening to his performance of ‘One’ a second time I think I like it better. I wasn’t crazy about it, but he was good. He has amazing vocals that I love.

The second song I may have to watch again. But, in my opinion, Aerosmith is so hard to cover to make me like it. He did good, but I love Aerosmith.

Even when Allison covered them (she was my top favorite on the show) it wasn’t my favorite of her performances. So I’m just picky when it comes to them.

Overall I think he did good though. He has to make it to top 2, no doubt.

I’ve been a huge fan of Adam’s this whole season, and I’ve loved every single performance. I’m usually always the first in our living room to shout, “That was amazing!” But today, I found myself saying, “That was sort-of really bad.”

These two performances lacked something, and I can’t quite put my finger on it. I really, really disliked One as a song for him, and I thought it was arranged badly. Cryin’ was actually sung great, but the back-up singer fiasco ruined it for me. And I hold the same opinion of it as I do for One. It was a bad pick with a weird arrangement. And neither song had that ’spark’ that made me want to run to the computer and add it to my iPod.

So while I still back Adam 100%, I definitely think this was a bad night for him, which I never thought could be possible. If he makes it to the finale, I do not want to see this. Actually, I want to see an over-the-top, flashy, flamboyant performance. Because that’s what I love about him.

Adam WAS screaming. Not in the classic ‘at the top of lungs’ type of screaming but a kinda wail-like scream which he overdoes in many many songs i’ve heard him sing. some work well, and others don’t. tonight, in my opinion, it didn’t!

Adam’s tongue sticking is a vocal technique. you can think of it as a sort of ‘brace’ for the soft palette (stiffens the mouth by pushing down the tongue into soft palette) to prepare for a wail. try it! for adam it is more obvious and also he tends to go for it.

I think people who are saying it wasn’t his best need to remember his body of work. No one can keep that level up indefinetly. Especially when he keeps raising his own bar so high. Kris was really good but I don’t think his consistency matches Adams. What can I say about Danny. Joe Cocker is another one of my favorites. Didn’t do it justice. i was on theadamlambertconnection.com and read a post where the person had left a tuner on while listening to adam’s performance of “Feeling Good” and it hit a perfect D for the 9 seconds he held it out. so i decided to experiment. granted, it wasn’t COMPLETELY in tune, but the needle on the tuner never moved and it was a D perfectly for all that time.

adam deserves to win this. it’s all of the work he’s done all of his life rolled into one.

It was an interesting night.Kris was Ok, not at his best in my opinion. Danny sang well but without any charisma. Still a good recordng voice though in Danny. Adam was great, One was not as good as it could have been. I prefer Adam singing in the lower to middle register also. Crying was better and showed his vocal skills more. Im worried for Adam this week. I love him and do beleive he is by far the most exciting preformer on AI since Fantasia. I just dont feel he excelled this week. Want to be wrong. Hope I am. Two points here..Im reading this blog and what people are saying on the AI boards and IDF..

1. Simon chose a bad arrangement of the ONE song

I was disappointed at first that we didn’t get one sweet, melodic song, but now that I’ve seen both videos a couple of times I am sold on both performances. Adam is such an exciting performer and was really convincing on these. Plus, his “rock” screams sound PERFECT to me. I just wish, as others have said, that we could have heard entire songs, not these snippets.

I don’t agree with those who think he seemed “off” tonight. I thought he gave it his all.

My observations:

ONE- he ruined the song. The arrangement was off and I really don’t like when he is doing is signature shouting. The song was beautifully sung my mary J Blige and U2, Adam did not do justice to it.

CRYIN’- this was his genre thus hardly novel.

My VERDICT:

Adam is boring. His style is not tuned to the contemporary demographic. I would love to hear records like David Cook, Daughtry, Kris Allen. This are the new generation of music.

For Simon’s choice, picking any U2 song was brilliant, but not crazy about Adam’s interpretation of “One”, even though I am still a huge Adam fan. U2 songs have always touched my heart and soul like no other, and this version left me feeling a little empty, even though it did start out lovely, and Adam’s vocal abilities continue to be impressive. (This was unlike Ring of Fire, in which he took a cool song, and gave us something else, but still left me with other feelings that I more than welcomed). His personal choice tonight of “Crying” by Aerosmith for me was just OK, even though I never tire of his voice and where it takes me. I would have preferred a few other Aerosmith songs or a lot of other artists/songs for that matter. I especially wanted the much rumored song, Wicked Game HIM version, or another rumor going around last week … The Who, Reign On Me. So many more possibilities, and so little time left. Doors, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Queen, CCR, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Jethro Tull, Cream, INXS, CARS, Talking Heads, Eurythmics, Supertramp… and so on. I still voted my little fingers off for Adam anyway in hope next week culminates in ecstasy.

I get a kick out of the comments that Adam “Butchers” or “Ruins” a song. “Ring of Fire”, “Mad World, and now “One”. What do you want? “Kara-Gokey”? How is he supposed to show “his” talent if you can’t do “His Thing”. “Screaming or Screeching” or whatever you want to call it. I want to hear Adam do “His Thing”. After listening to Adam’s videos several times, I thought he was brilliant as usual. The band and back-up singers didn’t do him any favors, yet he managed to give it his best. His vocal abilities are amazing and he ALWAYS connects emotionally to his songs. As much as I like Kris, I have to agree with MERLE. A Danny-Kris final will be a major disappointment.

I thought Adam looked and sounded the part of a rock star tonight. Admittedly, I wasn’t in love with the melodic changes on “One,” but vocally, he’s just such a pro. And “Cryin’” was top-notch, even with the over-zealous background singer.

As for Gokey, I do believe he is a talented vocalist, but I still can’t get myself to like him. He’s just…smug.

Kris Allen? I thought “Apologize” was a missed opportunity for him, but man, he really did redeem himself with the Kanye choice. That was fresh and pretty unexpected.

Did anyone else miss Allison tonight? I did. There is a lot of talent on this show, but she was one of its two true stars.

At the end of the day, I believe Adam should win. Kris should stay, Gokey should start booking gigs in Milwaukee.

I think you guys need to take a look at the week these guys have had. With the long hometown visit on Friday. I think they were all below par and the whole show lacked energy.They didn’t get their song choice till Friday, and they had to perform 2 songs. Not much time to prepare. Everything seemed understated. As for Adam’s singing of ONE, go listen to it on U2B….it’s 4:30+ minutes long and rather monotone in melody and then crescendos towards the end. Crying is over 5 minutes long. Adam had to arrange those songs to fit about a 2 minute spot and I think he did the best he could with what he was given. I’ll bet the studio versions will be fabulous as they will be longer and Adam can work into the crescendo a bit slower. Although they weren’t my favorite performances from him, he was still far better than the other two, in my opinion, and deserves to be in the finale. He body of work has been head and shoulders above the others.

Adam was good, it was not his best but he was better than the other 2. The camera LOVES Kris, but Apologize really underscores how weak his vocals are comp’d to the other 2.

I love Adam – he’s crazy talented with such a vocal range…however, he just doesn’t seem like he brought anything “new” tonight. Last year, with David Cook (my FAVE idol EV-AH), you really saw a progressive growth, with several standout performances (Billie Jean, Eleanor Rigby, Always Be My Baby to name a few).

Much as I like Adam, he just seems likes he’s gliding along and doing pretty much the same thing to every song now. His screams, though musical and done well, ARE getting old. They worked in Aerosmith, not so much for a U2 song.

That being said, he shows WAY more emotion in his singing than Kris and Danny put together. There’s no real competition this year, which must be why I was bored by tonight’s show.

To me, it seemed a direct response to Kara’s infamous comment that she would have preferred Danny sing an “early Aerosmith” song “like Crying or Crazy” from last week. People hammered her for that, as Dream On preceded those songs but in fairness, it seemed like she meant to say “early 90’s Aerosmith.” I think she just misspoke.

A lot of people were annoyed that Danny progressed after his Scream On catastrophe while Allison was sent home. There’s also been an aura of dislike for Danny among the other contestants, possibly because he brings that smug self-aggrandizing attitude with him everywhere. Of the hundreds of thousands of songs out there to choose from, I thought the choice of Crying was a well deserved middle finger to Danny, and that it was completely deliberate.

Adam’s evocative performance of Ring Of Fire beGAN the rise & introduction of this newest phenomenal singer to the world! It was sooo very mesmerizing that I sat in 1 position, unwilling to move, mouth open, trying to grasp the visual & audio beauty & exquisite talent unfolding before my eyes on the AMERICAN IDOL stage!! What?!?

Adam’s rendition of Mad World was ethereal ~

Absolutely breathtaking. A popular song most already enjoyed OWNED by this talented guy on the highest rated singing competition in 1 night!

FAB-ulous.

Then Adam took stage grandeur somewhere out of this universe with Feeling Good. Always Him, always in command of his splendid vocals & the audience.

Electrifying.

Unfortunately, perhaps not, Adam set the bar waaay up there in those early performances for himself; specifically Ring Of Fire (by going to the excesses) & Tracks Of My Tears (by reeling it in & toning it down – successfully), as other posters have conceded. And, that may have become a pressure point for the guy. Therefore, the expectation is for Adam to excel beyond his A or high-B efforts & achieve A & A+ dimensions ONLY. Our expectations for him has become such & it is tremendously difficult to maintain an A+ level consistently.

Ring Of Fire’s arrangement & performance THAT special evening by Adam Lambert struck those of us watching particularly because it WAS unique.

THAT level of originality cannot be replicated weekly & still earn the description of ‘unique’.

Adam, in his totality, is a smart & gifted, original talent, with apparent acting skills & a well thought out, broad-based approach to this whole show bizness thingy.

I canNOT wait for him to win this AI prize. He simply HAS TO!!:D

I’m head to toe in love with Adam but i must say i’m a bit unsure when i first saw his performances.. (and yes they should hire new b’ground singers)

but the 2nd time i see them, it gets better..

The terrible background singer did Adam no favors- she was more than superflous . Still,Adam prevailed – what a talent .

I too preferred Elliott’s version of One with Mary J – not the BEST song choice from Simon. Adam surely deserves to win – he has been the most consistent and versatile all season, but with his talent , he should have had a moment last night .
Hearing his sing Brigadoon and the Prayer on youtube gives me chills every time – neither of these two songs remotely did that . Adam for the win .

They all performed well this week, but the vote is about the total of all performances, and no one comes close to Adam’s talent and versatility.
I think the problem with a short performance is that the artist wants to sing the variations that would usually come on verse 3 of the song, when you record the studio version. I loved Adam’s Ring of Fire on the stage and the studio version. But, if you listen to the studio version he sings the melody “straight up” for the first verse or two and then does that awesome “bending” of the song. It was amazing. But on tv, you jump right to the bending on the short version so it seems more “out there.” (but I still loved the live one!)
I liked Adam’s U2, but I know I will LOVE the studio version. He needed more of the song to do the straight up melody before the variations. I am sure he does that on the studio one.
On Mad World, Tears for Fears and Gary Jules never vary the melody at all. It is actually very repetitive and not as effective the way they did it. What Adam did even Gary Jules admits was an amazing variation or “cover of a cover.” His descending note on “drown my sorrows” and ascending notes on “very nervous” totally bring out the meaning of the lyrics and it is very poignant and haunting.
Adam is the most diverse talented artist of the three. Kris is second.

Adam rocks my world. I live in Switzerland and can watch AI on a British channel. But after Adam stole my heart with his music, I can’t wait for Thursday when AI is aired. Thanks Rickey.

My favorite song of Adam’s was Mad World (also the studio version). I have been watching AI and X-Factor for a few years and have never seen anyone who comes close to Adam. His voice and stage presence is phenomenal.

Last week my Dad played Whole Lotta Love from his Zep collection, and Adam nailed it. I like Adam’s voice more than Plant’s, but I’m young and not an ol’ f@rt like my Dad, but he liked Adam’s rendition too.

The only problem with Adam’s One was that you can’t take that song, which needs time to build up, and jump straight to the end. Shame on AI for not letting the arrangement take its time and maybe allowing 3+ minutes for the song. The only critic I have is that at the end of the 1st verse, Adam needed to hit the key note (Am) – I play guitar – when he sings “It leaves you baby, if you don’t care for it”. Right on “it” Bono drops his pitch to the chord (Am), which is the chord at the beginning of the verse, and this beautiful chord change is missing. Have any of you seen the episode of Friends when Ross wants to play bagpipes at Chandler’s and Monica’s wedding? At the end Ross is trying to play Celebration and asks the gang to sing along…..and Phoebe starts shrieking EEEEEEEEEEE along with the bagpipes. It is hilarious and not even Jennifer Aniston could hold herself back from just cracking up, although she was trying. Well, Gokey reminds me of this sound/voice every time he sings, especially when he tries to hit high and loud notes. My Dad and I just sit there and go EEEEEEEEEE just like Phoebe. This too is hilarious and is the only way to make Gokey entertaining.

Last night when the show was over I felt SO disappointed in Adam but I voted anyway
for his whole body of work.

But today I come to rickey.org and rewatched
his songs and now I think- other than a tad
shouty, they were both wonderful. I will
admit he looked tired – I think the home-town
with everything else going on has him warn
out. His magic energy was gone.

okay so I didn’t love these performances as much as Adam’s earlier ones, but he’s still an incredible singer. He sings every note correctly, he’s never pitchy, and his vocals are undeniably amazing. It’s normal to have one good day, they can’t all be ridiculously amazing

I love EveryTHING about Adam. Totally A Adamholic! When he said he was going to sing Cryin, My Husband turned to me and said this ought to be good! Well, I knew he would, But who ever that was singing or overpowering him ruined it for me. I was like PLEASSSE shut up so I can hear him. I can honestly say that who ever she was totally messed that song up. Adam could of did without her. I just hope the votes are in his favor tonight. I will be totally devastated to see him go. I even hate that the show is only a few more weeks. He’s the best to grace that stage since season 1, Deserving of the title, and I hope I see him win it! Much Love!!!

Adam seemed a tad upset when he pulled out his earpiece finally. WTF?

If Simon and the producers are secretly trying to sabotage him to finagle a Kris/Danny finale, they’d be crazy because Adam has sold more music downloads. If it’s true (and I’m not saying it is), the only possible motivation is prejudice. If that is the case, I’d rather see Adam lose and sign with a label that will respect and support him.

Adam needs to go…. He RUINED U2’s ONE. He looked like Spock from Star Trek, I am sooo sick of the Axl Rose screaming on every song (and I am a G n R fan). Believe me – whomever he is up against in the end, I will vote for hours for the other person.

Blah! He ruined Cryin’, one of my all time favourite songs. I HATED the arrangement, it felt way too theatrical, and that’s the problem I have with him.

This song should be a really heartfelt song, and I didn’t feel EMOTION from him.

Vocally, his range is awesome, would be amazing on broadway and theatrical performances, but I can’t see him on the radio or making a CD.

Adam is amazing, and has set very high standards. I think it’s stupid when he doesn’t have an absolutely perfect performance and people start complaining WTF None of the other contestants have ever had anything near a perfect performance, especially Kris…he’s still pitchy at times.
Kris’ performance was the best last night because of the arrangement…the vocals were alright.
Adam’s arrangements may not have been mind-blowing, but his vocals were incredible.

Rickey, I am sorry that some people on here were rude to you. That said… please try to forgive them. It must be incredibly flattering that people flock to this site after the performances to watch them again, or watch them live from another time zone. This crazy show can bring out the best and worst in all of us and some people get a little more emotional and worked up than others. Please don’t think badly of “Adam” fans because I’m sure the same thing could have happened had one of the other contestants videos been “lost in translation” lol.

I just watched Cryin’…
Scratch that, I couldn’t finish watching it. I did get past the howler monkey/backup singer, but even fixing that, my eardrums couldn’t take any more.
I looove Adam but he’s already proven that he can do vocal gymnastics like no other, no need to do them for over half of each song!
Imagine listening to Mariah’s whistle register all through a song and you’ll know what I mean.
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should IMO.

it not easy for a guy to hit looong smoooth hiiiigh notes like adam – give him credit. look at when danny dorkey tries to emulate adam’s looong smoooth hiiiiigh notes on rock night, it ended up sounding looong rO ug H (broken, shriek) hiiigh. You called him a vocal masterclass?

Notice at the beginning of ONE, adam sang it beautifully in smooth LOW notes — he has a very WIDE tonal range. Awesome.

if you don’t like over-the-top hiiigh notes, check out his studio version – he mellowed down a lot of his songs

I don’t agree with Randy’s opinion on Adam making rock album. Adam should definately make Ballads.

I am pretty sure Ryan Seacrest said there was a million vote difference between Adam and Kris..He didn’t say Kris had more votes..They just anounced him first..probably again for some OMG ratings..If you search every poll on the internet, not just this one, ADAM LAMBERT is always voted the best..WHY??? Because he is!!!!
So if he is voted best in the polls, and ALL of the “already famous” artists on the show like him the best, then hmmm..who do you really think gets the most votes week after week after week… I will miss the Adam Lambert (AI) show when it was over..but I can’t wait to see and hear what he does after he wins..And for those of you that didn’t care for his top 3 performances..watch them again..HE WAS BRILLIANT!! as always… I Love whole lotta love, no one can top LED ZEPPELIN, but Adam did great with it and he did great with One…the back up singer tried to over sing him on cCying..but he is such a performer he overcame her lousy backup performance..she should be fired for the sabatoge effort..Crying was a great performance even with the sucky back-up!!

one – started out really good, and ended really well. the middle screeching part…well…ugh. it would be one thing if he just had a great range…which he does…but the vocal quality that his voice takes on when he starts getting screechy is so gross to my ears that i can’t get beyond it. these notes have a time and a place…not in every single song…mariah carey he’s not. he needs to drop the “guyliner” for good though. he almost looked like a real person…except for that godawful denim outfit.

cryin’ – i’m not a total hater. this was really good. at times, adam has a vocal quality similar to steven tyler’s but he still can’t hold a candle to him. his screechiness was more well placed in this song. but he’s back to being a cartoon exaggeration of a rocker, which i hate. but it was a perfect song choice.

I don’t even know what the heck is he doing at AI!!! he’s definitely the next rock star just as big as Steven Tyler or Axl Rose.. this guy is superb.. i got chills, i got everything, he’s totally awesome!!! i was wondering why in this times we couldn’t get some real stars and not the common silly girls or nice (but not great) boys.. and then ADAM LAMBERT decided to appear in the light!! What really amazes me is the fact that some guy like kris allen keeps on line and might even win (WTF) but i’m positive this is just for the stupidity of girls who just go for pretty faces.. c’mon i mean did anyone lately ever saw such a talent like adam??? i mean even the judges don’t know what to say anymore..
