I’m soryy, but there is something that just makes my skin crawl about him. I don’t know what it is, but i feel that everyone else is better than him. I’m kinda hoping for the chris daughtry surprise eliminations with him. This performance was okay though.

That was his best performance, however, it really wasn’t better than Allison’s tonight.

This is the only performance of his in the entire competition that I’ve enjoyed. But he still does not deserve to be in the finals. I think he will, but oh well.

And no, I’m not a fan of anybody, I’m late to this season’s AI I started paying attention last week. I am not biased, I don’t know who they are, i’m not fatigued. That being said, I love how Adam pushes the envelope, Kris Allen keeps improving and Allison is this season’s rocker. Danny is an OK singer but has no charisma. Neither does Matt. Again, I didn’t follow Hollywood week or any of that so I don’t know any of their back stories, just basing it on performances I’ve seen.

I agree it was one of Danny’s better performances. Still, I’d like to see him tackle something soft and tender, something that shows finesse (not just power vocals). With all of the other remaining four, I’ve seen vulnerability which I find necessary for a successful entertainer. I’d like to see that as well in Danny.

Performances on standards night:

Danny – easily the best

Adam – should have hit it out of the park, but way off tonight, judges pimped him hard but there is no getting around the performance, will still go through to the next round

Allison – shockingly good on a night I thought she would be terrible, barring major injustice, will go through

Kris and Matt – talented guys, but not really top 4 material, eliminating either would not be an injustice

I don’t think this was his best of the season, but it was better than his last two or three performances, but not the best of the night. He still doesn’t have the stage presence or charisma that Adam has (or even Matt or Kris). I think it was the third best performance of the night. I agree with above comments about getting tired his arrogance and smirking all the time.

He just got excited in the moment I have seen many contestants on the show clap after-wards David Cook even did it a few times!they are very emotional after their performance. Can you ever give the guy a break? He sings too soft he sings too loud he does not dance right etc etc. the funniest is he screams its singing have you ever taken voice lessons?
and Adam screeches but that is actually singing too. Its a style and technique not many singers can do. You have to have a strong Diaphragm to pull it off and strong lungs to carry and support the air. Adam and Danny both have this. Some people just have killer voices and Adam and Danny have them. Danny’s is stronger though.
That is why so many people get so excited to hear them sing!!! Because they really know how to project their voices out and its not screaming so QUIT saying that..

I noticed you rated Danny this week:) YES and actually put him on the list to vote said he did good. But he did great! not just good. He was the best singer next to Adam tonight and he really proved that tonight.

USA today ranked him as number ONE! and that’s a whole lot more important than here because a whole lot of people read USA Today:)

Far from amazing? I would say making it to top 5 on American Idol after millions of auditions and singers AND performances before him.. is really quite amazing. He would not be where he is if he was not amazing.

As well, the comment about him being “amazing” has more to do with his apparent smugness with regards to his talent — I have never been a fan of the “full of themselves” entertainers — and that’s how I see him. Carrie Underwood came out confident every week too and alot of people did not like her either and look where she is today? ITs not about the personalities of the contestants its about their singing like Randy keeps pointing out. We are not supposed to be judging their personalities but their singing ability this is a SINGING competition remember that.
Its not about how we perceive how nice somebody is on camera or off camera. Danny is a very sweet guy and too many people want to just judge him and say all kinds of mean things about him that just are not true because they hate the fact he just might win this competition so what better way to make themselves feel better than to lash out at the one that they think is taking the contestant they want to win away from that position!

Don’t get me wrong, Danny is an AMAZING singer. At the beginning of the season I really liked him but for some reason as the season went on my likeness toward him kinda faded…I LOVE guys with swagger, but Danny’s swagger that he showed tonight was sort of egotistical…which kind of makes me unlike him more, but I don’t hate him. He’s just not one of my favorites. But I guess he’s just confident about himself and since he’s SO close to the finish line he just gets more and more confident.

Kris Allen also showed swagger, but it was a charming kind, not egotistical. I just wish Danny was the same way.

No doubt he’s going to be in the Top 3 though for sure. He is an outstanding singer.

His voice brings hope tears smiles joy excitement and we really enjoy listening to him and watching him perform because he sings with his whole heart. and passion that moves us. He sings deep and I love a deep raw passionate singer the rest of them are shallow singers. that dont have the depth in their voices..I hit repeat all the time just like Paula said and each time I am in awe of his pure raw vocal talent.

I am bewildered by the whiny he’s-smug-arrogant-affected-full-of-himself-I-hate-his-smirks comments. Are we watching the same show? Don’t you have anything useful and interesting, positive or negative (with support) to say about his performance? What about the arrangement, his phrasing, vocal quality, interpretation, entertainment factor, etc?

I don’t find him smug in the least and I thoroughly enjoyed his performance tonight (I thought all five contestants were great.) Danny seems reserved, but so what? Does every performer have to let it all hang out all the time? I don’t find Danny or any of the other contestants arrogant (based on a very limited perspective – my TV screen.) But even if they were, so what? Frankly, I could care less if a performer is arrogant out of his or her mind. Maybe that arrogance keeps them sane a little bit longer as everyone around them starts to eat them alive.

It was alright. There was a lot of effort evident which was the problem. The best of that era made everything seem effortless.

He wasn’t as bad as he has been other weeks though but I’d be pleased to see him GO before the finale.

I’m glad to see from reading these posts that I’m not the only one who sees something rather “smarmy” about Gokey. Something about him just bothers me/makes my skin crawl. Something is off with that kid. And no, his voice is not bad. But he’s not the best either. As far as who could probably sell the most albums? Most likely Adam and Allison, because they are unique. Adam is a VERY talented performer, and Allison has a great sound, very Bonnie Raitt, and a great image. And no, pitbull, before you call me an “ADAM FAN” (I can just imagine how you sneer that out, like its a dirty thing), I’m actually a huge Kris fan, since not only is it talented, it’s pretty cool to have someone I know in the competition. But as much as I adore Kris and hope he makes the top 3, I honestly think the other two would sell more albums. But Danny and Matt… I just don’t see the appeal. It’s overdone, and not done well enough to make a mark. *shrugs* Just my opinion. I just wanted to say I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees that!! It’s sort of creepy, right?

After Hero, I can’t seem to find anything interesting from Danny. I tend to forget his performances. I can’t remember anything brilliant from him. I am vocal that I like Adam very much but I don’t close my ears on Danny. However, I am trying very hard every week to see the impressive side of him. He may have a good smoky rich voice but apart from it I can’t feel him. I AM NOT ENTERTAINED AT ALL. Last year, I was also vocal that I preferred DC more than Archie but I enjoyed Archie’s performances, too. And I was happy that Archie was with DC in the finals. Come finals night I was rooting for both DC and Archie. However, this year, if Danny will be in the finals hopefully with Adam, I think I will be all for Adam.

The “smug” comments are a matter perception. It depends on how you see Danny – and I think that’s what is happening. People who don’t like Danny (by way of the early “pimping” and playing on his sob story, or overt awareness of his Christian faith) now interpret every expression, smile, movement or lyric according to how they see Danny. At this point – Danny doesn’t have to do a thing; he could just stand on the stage and smile, and people would judge him according to their paradigm. It’s human nature; we think we know exactly how a person is by our impression. And we also judge according to ‘who we want to win’. We tend to trod down the figure which represent ‘opposition’ to who we want to win. Danny is the nemesis of Adam – because he threatens to win. If you want Adam to win, Danny represents the ‘villan’. I find most people who like Adam hate on Danny. And those who like Danny hate on Adam. It’s a natural evolution of competition. Truth be told – competitive natures aside – Danny and Adam are both wicked good singers.

Personally – I happen to think Danny is just enjoying himself. Voila – there is my psychology for the day.

For those who don’t get Danny’s appeal…it’s all in the voice. Adam is a huge talent (apple) but Danny (orange) has the “X” factor purely in his voice alone. Adam is much more of a visual artist but Danny has the edge in the studio. I don’t know about you guys but I like apples and oranges. Not just one or the other!

Here’s my take. Danny has great chops. No doubt. The man can sing.

BUT – a great star connects to the material. A great star knows the voice is there and doesn’t think about it. This is a great song, and I just saw Danny in “voice land”. It seemed he was more into the sound of his voice than the complete performance – voice, connection, performance….

I like Danny a lot but the “voice land” thing always turns me off a little. Great voice, and he did “emote” a lot, but it wasn’t a true connection to the song/lyrics, in my humble opinion.

There is something so incredible about Danny, it really came through last night. I am sure he is making a huge impact on many people in their lives through his polarizing presence. I believe what others see as his arrogance and smugness is the outer shell around a shyness. Shy people are often seen as arrogant. His high school teachers said he was shy, and was not involved in the theater there. I love Danny, I will not be the same after seeing his performance last night. A pinnacle of masculine sensuality.

He is very shy. He said in an interview that he was really thinking about things back in the earlier stages of the top 10 I think and really thought to himself- your no good and you really should not be doing this and then he thought again and realized and said to himself Really honestly? Get a GRIP!

See Danny is very shy but someone who is like that when they get on stage they really let it all come out and they let all that passion and yes even fear and intimidation come out and it just wows us because they really dont think they
are very good..I totally get that being a singer and going on stage there is alot of fear of what people will think of you, and so that is why he has that confidence when he walks out there but believe me he is probably shaking in his boots before he hits that first note..

I am sure all of them with the exception of Adam because he has been doing this so long its really not too hard for him because he can envision it as just being a show and you are his audience.

When Danny sings he totally connects with us because you are not just the audience you are his fans and cheering him all the way:) and when he senses that he can really let go emote and be DANNY:) Yeah man check your pulse ladies!!!

In my opinion, Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert are the 2 Best Male Vocalists ever on Idol.

I dare someone to argue. No one is Season 1, Ruben and Clay, George Huff, Bo Bice, Daughtry and Yamin, No one in 6, and the Davids (more David Cook).

The only ones that come close, in my opinion, are Cook and Yamin (possibly Daughtry) maybe in my opinion.

This season is the best, and Danny and Adam are in a league of their own.

Having said that, Danny needs to win. He is my favorite by far. I love his voice, would definitely buy his CD, and simply thing he’s incredible.

Danny can only hope to follow behind the stellar Adam in a season 8 of mostly average singers. NO way are Gokey’s vocals on par with Adam Lambert or Clay Aiken. Neither can Danny compete with Elliott Yamin, who sang effortlessly, whereas Danny forces the lyrics & shouts.

He could compete with Ruben Studdard to a degree. But Ruben possessed charm & Danny appears smarmy. Huff is not that memorable to me.

As far as Daughtry, Bo & the 2 Davids are concerned, I’ll put it this way. When Taylor Hicks appeared & performed last week, I saw the near future. If Danny Gokey wins, we have ourselves a double-billing:

Whoever say Danny is unoriginal is full of it. Name me one singer who can sing like Danny Gokey. Name 1. I can name hundreds who sing like Kris Allen. There are also a few Allison Iraheta. Check out a Broadway stage and you will see lots of Adam’s, maybe not the same range, but same tonal quality. Danny is completely unique.
And he is nothing like Taylor Hicks. Taylor Hicks had much less range, much less power, and his voice is much less soothing than Danny’s. I can listen to Danny’s voice for hours.
If this is a competition solely based on singing, Danny should win.

Look Dan G voice is overall good but as far as Power he does not have its mid -range -low but no over the top power he lacking in it.Every time I expect him to hit the power notes he does not. I thought when this AI competition started we had a great Joe Cocker power type singer we don’t maybe he can let it go then he may have a chance to win. I will say that he beat Chris Allen hands down sorry but Adams the one to beat.

His voice is much more powerful than Adams, in all registers, except the falsetto. Danny is a vocal beast. To all who says he is unoriginal, name me one singer who sounds like Danny. Especially nowadays. Because I can name several who sound like Kris (John Mayer, Jason Mraz, everyone folk-pop artists, millions of coffeehouse singers), Adam (Axl Rose, The Darkness Lead Singer, Robert Plant), Allison (Pink, several other female rock voices)
I like Adam, and would not be too upset if he won, but come on, Danny is original, and he is an incredible vocalist. His voice is incredibly distinct.
