Last week, Danny Gokey called Christian singer Rachael Lampa telling her he “wants to meet her and spend some time together.”

Wait. He called her? ~~I don’t know if they actually met last week, but~~ Rachael posted a picture of her with Danny. *

I took a screencap of Danny’s wife who passed away, and her resemblance to Rachel is uncanny. Omigosh. Danny should have waited until after American Idol. What will the haterz say? Didn’t ~~her~~ his wife pass away just a few months ago? It’s barely been a year and he’s already asking girls out.

I dunno.. this just doesn’t sit well with me at all. If my DH were to pass away (ugh I hate even saying it)…. I would be devasted… and I mean just to the point where I wouldn’t even be able to function without someones help. Hell, we went to get life insurance and I almost bursted in to tears when they started talking about the If’s of him dying.

While on one hand I can understand some of you finding this distasteful, I can also see nothing wrong with Danny asking anyone out. It has been a year. To some that would be too soon. To others, no. Speaking as someone who DID lose a spouse 15 months ago, there is incredible loneliness that cannot be described unless you go through it yourself. Should Danny be concentrating on AI instead of asking people out? Maybe. Who knows. Maybe he’s using his current fame to get to know people he wouldn’t be able to before. Who knows? Is it our business? No. On a personal level, I couldn’t see myself with another guy. But I’m only 37… that’s a lot of lifetime to be spending alone. In the beginning, you want to die, too. But time marches on. The sting of the pain lessens but there are lots of other stuff you deal with like FEELING again. I’m just saying, it’s not fair to judge his personal decisions. He’s not doing anything wrong. He’s just spending time with someone. Sheesh.

Oh..and I don’t really see the resemblance to his late wife.. yeah, she’s brunette but whatever. Maybe that’s what he’s attracted to.

Who cares? …really, Danny comes across as douchey for so many other reasons this is just a little cherry on top. He is the epitome of hand to heart, overly sincere church-people fakery – can’t stand the guy. And I have no clue about her, never heard of her. But they share that intense faith thing, so of course she’s encouraging the vote for him among her ‘fans’.
I don’t think he saw that as dating as much as networking, though. He is an attention hog, and thinking ahead – he knows that her market will be his market post-AI. He’s just making business connections, imo.

Nothing wrong with a widower trying to rebuild his life. But when the widower has used being a widower that to gain popularity in the even last tuesday plaided the sympathy vote with his song, up to the point that so many comments on Youtube this week and some boards are that he sings from his heart because of his love for his late wife and he should win because his poor late wife would be proud of him! He deserves to win because he his a widower! Lately he has been going slowly down the drains and does not seem to be the front runner anymore and he knows it… so lets try something else! hey Danny! What a douche!

I don’t know how people get “asking out on a date” from this. I agree with someone who thought he was just networking. Though I don’t entirely agree that he should not sing about his wife. Artistry is giving a little piece of yourselves in your music. And some people would probably hurl at that thought, but that’s why I like listening to him. To each her own.

I’m going to be completely honest with all of you. I find it very hard to like Danny. That does not make me a HATER…everyone has their own opinions. When he auditioned I thought his voice was OK. In my opinion, others keep stepping up the vocals while Danny stays the same, or does not even live up to his own hype. He has RUINED two amazing songs (Stand By Me and Endless Love). But, the reason I really could never support this man is b/c of his lack of a connection to the death of his wife. For the record, when Danny tried out his wife had only been deceased for about 3 months. At this point, she has not even been deceased for 1 year. To each their own with how to handle grieving. But, I look at my husband, who I have known since I was in H.S. (very similar situation to Danny) and I could not imagine not taking the time to grieve after 3 months if I were to lose my husband. If this dating thing is even true it does not matter to me b/c I already have little respect for Danny. Why everyone finds him so inspirational I have no idea. He did this b/c he wants to be a star. Every song choice, looking to the sky above, wearing the wedding ring, talking about her, these are all just smoke screens so that all of the sappy romance novel reading people can fall in love with him. You can defend him all you want and you can tell me I’m a hater but, I just look at things realistically. He is there for HIS own purposes, the wife is just a back story to get him to where HE wants to go.

He still really does love his wife and when he sang that song about her and to her last week we his fans all know he did mean with all his heart.
I am sure he will always love his wife! and have beautiful memories of her..Maybe that song brought back something very special about her to him..He said it was his favorite one so far he has sang on the show. But I am sure he has to realize at some point that his life has to go on.

And just calling to visit with Rachel is not a date either he just wanted to meet and talk with her..maybe about recording something together at some point..and what a thrill for Rachel since Danny is her favorite Idol for him to want to visit with her.!!!:) so cool. Its amazing how the news blows everything way out of proportion all the time. Britney talks about it all the time.

Yes, as a 30 yr. old woman I base what/who I like off of how many “girls” in the audience are screaming. (Shake my head with sarcasm). Please…you just proved a point, too many people are basing their votes off of who the audience/judges scream for as opposed, to who has the best voice. Danny hit so many BAD notes for Endless Love in was pathetic (if you want to be educated about the bad notes, I will educate you). I don’t vote for who is cute (even if i did find Danny cute – which I don’t), I don’t vote for who has the best back story, I vote for voice. After all, this is a SINGING competition.

So I think what’s foremost on every perverted, cold-hearted person’s mind is…when is Danny going to get laid again? And I would think it would be a huge compliment that Danny picked a woman who looked a lot like his wife. Maybe I’m just a *****, but I’m certainly not going to go join a convent once my husband dies. They are not just screaming because he is super cute they are also screaming because they love his voice..and cant wait for him to perform. He has so much passion when he sings..

I have listened over and over to his performance and there were not any off key notes..yo dont always have to have tons of vibrato in it like Matts coldplay song..Some people sing with a straighter sound that does not mean they are off pitch. and It a more current sound for today too.

And I can tell you a few things about notes I have been a vocal teacher for over 10 years and studied voice before that so I know plenty about bum notes and notes that are flat or sharp anotherwards they dont hit at the center of the pitch of the note. Danny is an excellent singer! and really knows how and when to belt his voice not alot of singers can do that.
He many times starts slow and builds the song instead of making it sound the same through the whole thing..(boring) he has that ability to grab us through his voice and just when you think where is this headed like Paula said He slays it!
That is why so many love him they cant wait to see what he is vocally going to do with each song.

one other thing- Danny tried out because his wife really wanted him to do it. He did this for her. She really always wanted him to do it..Another wards she really believed in him and thought he could make it on the show. And I read that he said that it was her DREAM not his and after this horrible thing happened to her then maybe somewhere in his heart he thought I want to fulfill that dream that she had for me..!! If that’s all I can do for her I will do it..It brings tears when you think about it.

Its really too bad with all the rotten things people say about him that his beautiful wife could not be here to support and defend him because she would be his number one FAN:)

He might just be networking or using his current “celeb” to meet someone of whom he’s a fan. One meeting is not necessarily a “date” but if they get together again, it’ll just add to his wrap sheet of douchery. Whatever the case, he needs to actually do something with his singing because he’s dull. I’m exactly the fan he should be reaching with his A/C singing and I’m not at all interested.

Thank you for trying to put me in my place with your supposed expertise. I, also have taken voice since I was 5, as well as, piano. I do not need to be taught what a vibrato is or a key, thank you. I also am not comparing other contestants to him (Matt). I believe the off key starts with My (on this word) first love… so maybe you need to listen again. Among his other many dismal off key attributes don’t even get me started on his mis-pronunciation of words. If you are a supposed voice teacher than you should be able to recognize that. For instance, Get Ready, he kept on singing Get R-E-A-T-Y. Please STOP trying to make your point with me…I am not a fan, I have studied music and musical instruments, Danny is not talented, IMO. You will never change that opinion .

The ring is not is wedding ring. It’s a ring with a cross on it. He was planning on auditioning WAY before his wife died. His wife was a big fan of the show so he wanted to audition in her honor. Plus, he couldn’t have auditoned the next year because he would be too old.

Seriously, the concept that he’s using his wife to get votes is getting beaten to death. Do some research on the guy before complaining.

By the way get ready with a D is harsh and causes a dipthong or harsh phrasing so maybe the T on ready is softer and makes the phrasing better anyway I am not going to sit and argue about it..you have your opinion and I have mine. And the truth is he is being coached by someone far better than either one of us on the show. I bought Deborah Byrds vocal DVD maybe you need to buy it its really good!

And should we get started on the other contestants and vocally what they are doing wrong too?Carrying chest voice too high instead of using the mixed voice, not singing through the diaphram all the time not artiuculating well Matt reaching for the note through the neck? etc. etc.

Look, I’m not even a fan of Danny and I have to jump in here.

Rachel Lampa is very popular in any community that knows and appreciates contemporary christian music. I know of her from my own church singing group experience. If I had the chance to meet her, I would be all fangirly and thrilled! Danny is a worship leader and is allowed to be fans of Christian musicians, even if they are young, hot and look like his wife. He can be a fan. He can call her and get together.

Danny did this with Chris Sligh, you know… he called him up, and they got together for dinner and all that. Was that a date? NO. Was that “out of line”? NO. So why is everyone all up in his “ghoulish widower” face? It’s not right.

Also, even if this was a date…. you know, he’s a widower. He is allowed to date.

If it was me, and my husband died, I don’t think I could even breathe, much less go on with my life. I don’t even want to think about losing him. But holy smokes, people are permitted to move on.

Danny meeting up with Rachael Lampa may just have been a one-time thing, but it sure does not make Danny look good at all. From the way it reads above, he went out of his way through a friend to meet up with her and “spend some time together”, and she also just happens to be very, very pretty. The thing I don’t understand is why he is even thinking about things like this after his wife passed 9 or 10 months ago, whatever it is. The other really weird thing is that, like Rikey says above, she does have an UNCANNY resemblence to Danny’s late wife. It may have been an innocent meeting, but it is going to give Danny’s detractors all kinds of ammunition, especially the ones who say they couldn’t believe he would try out for AI so soon after her death, and now this. I am a Danny fan, but I don’t know what he was thinking here, and I would be curious to hear what Danny has to say about the meeting. No matter what he says, it just doesn’t look real good in my opinion, and from what Rickey posted, Rickey didn’t think so either!

Just another piece of evidence that this guy is a massive douchebag. Look, everyone grieves in his/her own way. If Danny wants to date, fine (not clear that this is a date, but ’spending time together’ means something different with a guy/girl vs. guy/Sligh).

Problem is that he is still milking his wife’s death to get votes… the looking up at heaven on Tuesday, not wearing glasses so we can see the tears if they came. His brother in law was in the audience again last week. He’s manipulating the audience while he may or may not be trying to get tail on the side. Either you’re grieving or you’re not. He only seems to be grieving when the camera is on him.

Danny didn’t call her, some people called her on his behalf (probably from the Dreamcenter, they both seemed to have connections there). I bought into the whole story 3 months ago when Idol started but I am over it, Danny isn’t that great, Adam and Allison are way stronger than him. I wouldn’t say I am a “Hater” but he does annoy me.

After everything he has been through it’s good to see he is able to actually live his life (in any fashion that he can).

The way he sings his songs are very inspirational and he has an awesome voice. I wish we could hear more of his story… it has only been briefly mentioned and we have to spend quality time on the internet to find out the details behind his story.

It’s good to see he is able to stay humble throughout the show. From what I have heard and seen myself, he seems to spend a lot of time reaching out to his fans and giving them the attention they want so badly.

This kid is the greatest. Danny FTW!

That was my very first post here, ever! My observation is VALID! He definetely as his left hand crammed in that pocket. It’s kind of cute actually, and clever, if he was wearing a ring. I like him, but was talking about the photo. I am sure other’s may back me up, because he had been wearing a ring, at some time.

So, according to The Walrus, Danny has to basically come right out and say ‘I’m using my wife’s corpse to manipulate you to vote for me’ before he will believe he’s using it to troll for sympathy votes. I didn’t realize we have to be spoon fed everything, that we need a declarative statement vs. using inference or seeing obvious (IMO) signs of cloying manipulation.

Whether it’s good or bad that Danny is possibly interested in Rachael…that’s up to Danny and Rachael. I don’t expect him to turn into a monk because his wife passed, though. So if it WAS a date, then good for them both. If it wasn’t, then STILL good for them both for possibly meeting a new friend.

I do LOVE Rachael, though, and got to meet her in 2001. She’s a super sweet girl (or at least she was then lol). I wish them both the best, regardless of what this means for them.

And just for the record, I’m not a big Danny fan. I don’t hate him, but my favorites are Allison and Kris.

Danny Gokey!!! So cool why he said because he sings with his heart..see people notice a singer when he really touches the soul..and Elliot sure does that too..Yeah Elliot!!!!

And he even met Adam Lambert.. I guess, who said was very sweet and everything but he is backing Danny:)

One thing I’ve learned… the way I interpret other people’s actions says more about myself than them. If you think someone is doing everything for selfish motives, it’s probably because that is what you would be doing. Love believes the best of every person. I’m definitely not perfect in this, but I’m trying! And, again, I am NOT a Danny fan. You can check my other posts… I find him quite boring.

think about it this way , before she passed she probally told danny to live his life , and that he needs to be happy. you can’t greeve forever , and have to move on. hes not the first person to loose there wife and date after there wife has passed , yet ppl are acting like he is the worst person ever. he will love his wife forever , just because he will eventually date again doesn’t mean he no longer loves his wife.

Much of the hate being directed at Danny has absolutely nothin to do with Danny and more to do with Adam’s fans who feel threatened by Danny’s popularity.

They’re grasping at straws. Danny asks Rachel out on a date with her boyfriend? OK.

Oh wait. Maybe it was the boyfriend Danny wanted to go out with seeing how Adam’s fans are now (on several boards) trying to start rumors that Danny is gay.

The whole thing is pathetic.
